Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animals, Biological & Life Sciences, Environment, Forest Conservation, Land Resources Conservation, Protection of Endangered Species

Mission: At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature;to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law, and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters, and climate that species need to survive. We want those who come after us to inherit a world where the wild is still alive.

I keep up with what the Center is doing via their newsletter, and their many petitions towards protecting our wild lands and creatures.
I very much appreciate the knowledge I receive via both the newsletter and the petitions regarding the various threatened and endangered species and what is happening with their populations and environments, as well as regulations regarding the animals and their habitats.
I appreciate the Center's hard work in protecting our environment and its inhabitants! We need more organizations like the Center to ensure our environment remains habitable for both humans and wildlife.
Thank you Center for Biological Diversity!

The Center for Biological Diversity is one of my all-time favorite organizations. Almost every time I read an article about a conservation project or a group threatening wildlife and/or the environment, the Center is mentioned as a proponent for our earth and an opponent to those wishing to do it harm. I’ve been a member for years, and I have never seen signs of pandering or failing to pursue their ideals. I’ve never been offered a “free gift” or address labels/note pads for my donations, which implies to me that every possible portion of my donations is going to the cause, not the organization. I would like to give more to the Center each year, and will certainly be putting them in my estate plans.

The Center for Biological Diversity is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to protecting the incredible diversity of species that call our planet home. Their dedication to safeguarding wildlife, wild places, and the ecosystems we all depend on is unmatched. From fighting to protect endangered species to holding corporations and policymakers accountable, the Center consistently steps up for the planet's most vulnerable creatures—and for us.

I’m continually inspired by their tireless advocacy and bold action. Their legal victories, science-backed initiatives, and grassroots campaigns make a real difference. Supporting their work feels like one of the most impactful ways to help protect the interconnected web of life we’re all a part of.

I admire and wholeheartedly support what they do, and I encourage everyone to join their efforts. If you care about wildlife, ecosystems, and the future of our planet, the Center for Biological Diversity is a cause worth rallying behind.

When it comes to saving threatened and endangered species, nobody does it better than the Center for Biological Diversity. They take on the task of protecting iconic species like polar bears, wolves and grizzlies but are just as passionate about species you never heard of, like Black Creek crayfish and giant clams (and plants galore). They use science, law and creative social media to advance their lifesaving work and famously secure habitat for creatures great and small, which then benefits hundreds of other creatures (including humans), making them the most effective organization in this arena. I've been a longtime donor of the Center, and continue to admire their fierce and effective efforts to save life on earth.

When it comes to protecting and saving species, the Center is simply the best. They consistently go the extra mile to save creatures (and plants) large and small, iconic and unknown. Their legal, scientific and advocacy work is cutting edge, their dedication and devotion to the cause, unwavering. And their love for the wild is touching and true. I've been a donor and admirer for at least 15 years, and more recently, a volunteer as well.

With the extinction crisis looming on planet Earth (more then a million species at risk), we need the Center for Biological Diversity to help us turn it around. Their Saving Life on Earth campaign deserves everyone's highest level of support. Our own fate depends on it.

They fight for the animal’s lives and the life of the planet. They will sue when agencies are going against their word or when there is imminent danger to wildlife.

They will report the good news about how they have been able to help certain species. They even sponsor community murals to help raise awareness of endangered animals. (On their website there are coloring pages of endangered animals!)

Center For Biological Diversity fights exactly for that purpose, to preserve biodiversity in animals and plants, I love the NGO.

I have been a member, of activist for, and monthly contributor to this fantastic organization for many years. The staff is extremely committed to the protection of wildlife, wildlife habitat, and especially endangered species, as well as addressing the impacts of how our population actions and food choices have on all of this..
The staff is also very responsive to make questions and requests for updates on a respective on-going actions. They are committed to getting issues for the protection of wildlife and their habitat resolved, even if it takes many years. And, they don't just focus on well-known species, they truly focus on the full realm of biological diversity and they are very effective. These are just some of the reasons why I have chosen the Center for Biological Diversity as my number one organization to contribute to and act for.

The are also very diverse in what they do and the communications which they provide through their regular publications of "Endangered Earth", Food-X", "Pop-X", and "The Revelator", and numerous Bioactivist action emails.
All of these publications are extremely thorough, informative, and well written. I look forward to all of them and act accordingly.

They are such an important and effective organization. Wildlife and I would be lost without them.

They also have a great educational team and I've learned so much about creatures as diverse as tiny fish, newts and salamanders, to endangered birds and all types of wolves.
Without their actions, I'm certain that many more essential habitats would have disappeared without trace. They're well worth supporting if you care about our planet and the environment.

The Centre for Biological Diversity takes on the fight for our environment and species under threat of extinction using all the laws they can identify to challenge and protect even the smallest of species and plants. Its a slow, longterm and painstaking task that lacks the showiness of protests of other organisations, but in my view, their approach creates valuable precedents that also have a much longer term impact.
I'm impressed with their undaunted determination and doggedness in what must often seem like an impossible fight. Yet they have their successes – which often surprise me.
I am particularly happy about their support for bringing back the various wolf populations and fighting against arsenic bombs etc. Research has proven that as a top predator species, wolves support the reclamation of environments by others lower down the chain.
And these arsenic bombs are simply a despicable, cruel method of indiscriminate killing which should be banned immediately.

Several studies have shown that family planning and gender empowerment strategies, if implemented globally, would reduce annual GHG emissions. A 2017 study showed that voluntarily lowering fertility rates through strategies such as improved healthcare, education, and economic opportunity for women and girls would result in a 35% reduction in emissions by 2100. Project Drawdown notes that improving the health and education of women and girls globally would better equip them for the climate crisis with the side effect of saving 85 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent due to slowing population growth.

Gender empowerment and education initiatives are often seen as solutions that are only applicable to low-wealth countries, but improving gender equity in the United States — one of the world’s highest consuming countries — could have a substantial environmental impact. Yet people in the United States face barriers to choosing if and when they want to have children. Policymakers can remove these barriers by supporting universal access to voluntary modern family planning methods (including oral contraceptives, long-acting reversible contraception, condoms and emergency contraception); LGBTQIA+ inclusive, culturally responsive and medically accurate comprehensive sexual education; and affordable sexual and reproductive healthcare, including abortion, that allows individuals to have agency and autonomy over their bodies. Additional solutions include supporting educational opportunities, redefining gender roles, creating equitable opportunities for women and LGBTQIA+ people, and guaranteeing safety from harassment and violence.

Although the connection between population growth and the climate crisis can be controversial, we need to talk about it. The public agrees: Through a large national survey conducted by the Center in 2020, we learned that more than 60% of people believe the climate crisis is a very or critically important issue, just behind healthcare. Climate change is being cited by young people as a reason to have fewer children. According to a 2018 New York Times poll, men and women aged 20-45 are having fewer children than their ideal number because 33% are worried about climate change and 27% are worried about population growth. In the Center’s survey, 33% of respondents somewhat or strongly agreed that, “Climate change compels Americans to choose to have fewer children.” By breaking the taboo of talking about sex, family planning, abortion, and other reproductive health topics, we can better advocate for reproductive rights and justice while supporting people who are already bringing concerns about our climate future into their family planning decisions.

There is a clear need for gender empowerment solutions that are lacking in governmental, corporate and organizational policies. In a 2021 “World Scientists’ Warning” study, a review of 212 climate mitigation policy commentaries found that population and social justice appeared less frequently than other solutions like energy, food and the economy. A 2022 Center study showed that gender equity solutions are missing from municipal climate plans, despite the fact that women and gender-diverse people are disproportionately affected by climate change.

The pressure of population growth makes it harder to meet emissions-reduction targets while magnifying climate change’s detrimental consequences on humans and other species. While addressing population growth is a long-term mitigation strategy, there are also short-term adaptation benefits, including improved health care, empowerment and other positive social outcomes.

I'm a retired Parks and Wildlife professional. I worked hard for public lands and wildlife for nearly four decades. Thus, I know what it's like in the field, the hard physical work, the attacks by those who put money before a healthy environment, and the ugly politics of it all. That's why I am pleased to support the Center for Biological Diversity. The battle to save the Earth will never end since it seems that for many, human nature puts money before our life-supporting Earth ecosystems. It can become very discouraging and make one feel helpless. But, by supporting well known nature conservation organizations we can be part of the solution and on the right-side of conservation vs. exploitation. I encourage all who are able to support our nature conservation organizations and share in the victories of biodiversity preservation.

I don't know of any other non-profit that does more to save endangered species and protect our planet than the Center for Biological Diversity. Their mission is: SAVING LIFE ON EARTH, and they go above and beyond to do just that. They strive to protect many species from becoming extinct and protect our land so that future generations can obtain the world the way that God intended. They are relentless in their fight to attain their goal and I think they deserve a ten star rating!!!

The Center for Biological Diversity stands above the more typical environmental protection non-profits as they fight for all of our non-human companions on the planet in every venue available - by petitioning governments and their agencies, as well as corporations; by sponsoring direct contact between their supporters and these entities to speak truth to power and if the amicable methods fail to achieve the desired result, the Center litigates against the offenders, often as the lead plaintiff joined by like minded organizations. More so than most environmental and wildlife protection operations, the Center for Biological Diversity not only informs and educates, they take all action necessary in order to preserve "all creatures, great and small."

The folks there take action, legal and otherwise, to save as many plants and animals as possible around the world and get results. The Center is vigilant in its research, educational efforts and communication and jumps on every opportunity to take legal action against the government when they often violate their own standards. We are grateful for their work in challenging corporate and government takeover of the natural world and consider our money well spent.

The Center for Biological Diversity doesn't get the kind of publicity of some of the bigger players like NRDC or The Nature Conservancy, but they really punch above their weight in making impact with their resources. Some people have criticized the organisation for filing a lot of lawsuits - but that is what it takes to get anything done, sadly. It is because they (and other organisations) will put their necks on the line to defend natural habitats and biodiversity and legislation like the Endangered Species Act from attack by vested interests that we have seen a remarkable recovery in some species like the California condor, gray whales and bald eagles. There is a lot more to do and supporting the CBD is one way to make that happen.

I love that they take on fights for even the smallest of species and that they seem to have the capacity to fight in just about every place that is under threat. As someone who reads their letters and communications closely, it is abundantly clear that the hardworking people who work at the organization view the Center's mission as much a moral calling as a place to work.

I deeply appreciate the lengths to which the Center's staff go to keep their supporters informed on the work they are doing. Their emails are in-depth, inspiring and packed with information. When I've written in to get information about issues of particular concern to me where I live, I've received thoughtful responses from the heroic conservationists that are doing everything they can to stop bad projects from putting nature at risk. And the webinars I've been able to attend have been hopeful and inspiring.

The Earth needs this organization and I highly encourage anyone and everyone who cares about the natural world to consider supporting them.

I am only leaving 1 star because it did not give me the choice to leave zero stars. I no longer support this organization since learning about their ridiculous and malicious lawsuit against the Tonto National Forest and the decision to team up with Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife Conservation (hunter) who is known to try his best at making the American Wild Horse become EXTINCT. The founder actually mentioned in a podcast recently that he wants the horses slaughtered for food. He is currently after our iconic Salt River Wild Horses with his outrageous and incorrect accusations. He is not a native of Arizona nor does not visit the Salt River to have any correct knowledge of how the ecosystem works at the Salt River and how it is thriving and has been thriving for centuries. The CBD needs to drop the lawsuit. That is all they care about. Not all wildlife.

When a 501 C3 becomes a charitable organization they are held to a certain standard, that they will follow their mission statement, provide for their cause and above all be honest and transparent. The CBD has done none of this ,yet quite the opposite. Part of their mission statement says To improve the status of biodiversity by safeguarding ecosystems, species and genetic diversity. So far by research I have seen frivolous lawsuits filed with large financial repercussions to the CBD. By the CBD not doing proper research and falsifying, rather out right lying for gain for their organization, paying out damages to others as their frivolous lawsuits have damaged and destroyed peoples lives and livelihoods. The CBD has stated there are 600 horses in the Tonto National Forest which is an outright lie, stating that the horses are destroying the environment, eating cottonwood trees, when in fact the cottonwood trees have been growing and being sustained. The new seedlings that have been destroyed as they claim has been due to the fact that SRP opens the dam and the influx of water in fact erodes the shoreline and unfortunately kills the seedlings, which indicates people destroying the environment not the horses. We have had longhorn sheep having babies, bald eagles also reproducing, several bird species, deer, bats, mountain lions, foxes, javelina, coyotes all maintaining their lives with enough food and a good balance to sustain each species. What I have seen is people dumping tons of trash, and destroying the land but yet the CBD blames the horses. The Forest Service has entered into a contract with the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group through a humane birth control program which reduces the population and follows the long term plan that has been put in place to maintain the herd size. There has been 1-2 foals born in the last several years, an example that the program is working. The herd size in fact been reduced by 54 horses by natural attrition. Boundary fencing has also been added to maintain the access where the horses are roaming. They currently have access to 12 miles of the riparian area of the 200 mile long Salt River area. Water troughs have been placed in strategic locations allowing for the horses as well as the deer etc access to water therefore not relying solely on the river not only benefitting the horses but the deer and other wildlife species, so they are not reliant on the river alone for water. The horses eat the dried brush which in fact reduces the chance of wildfires which will destroy the forest in a short period of time. As the horses move through the forest a path is created therefore making paths which is utilized by the public to move through the forest. The CBD associates with John Koleszar, Arizona Sportsman for Wildlife Conservation, who has been seen laughing at the sight of a dead horse in Alpine AZ to his friends Robin Silver of the CBD and Jackie Hughes a roundup contractor who is benefiting financially from the round up of those horses.who were slaughtered inhumanely by shooting them and then rounding them up. The CBD has yet again filed a frivolous lawsuit using lies, deceit and egregious behavior. This behavior is not in alignment with what their charities mission statement is and it disgusting that these activities are allowed and being brought to a court of law. The CBD needs to realize that there are 8 million visitors to the Tonto National Forest each year not only to see the land but to see the horses as well. People are destroying the land not the wildlife. Once again the CBD will not be successful in their effort to harm or modify the management of the horses. The CBD actually disgusts me. Melanie Brown

These horses have been here for many decades. The horse’s benefit the forest by keeping the fire hazard low because they eat the dead foliage.
They also bring revenue to the area. I have met people from all over the world who come to see them.
Please leave the wild horses alone.

The CDB does not even deserve one star. They have filed a lawsuit to remove the Salt River wild horses without any scientific proof that the horses have done any damage. The horse population is already being reduced by humane management from the SRWHMG and there is absolutely no need to remove all but 50 horses. CDB already caused removal of the Alpine Wild Horses, yet allow cattle on the land which cause even more harm. When a lawsuit is filed along with cattle organization and hunting organizations you can see what is happening. The CDB should immediately withdraw its lawsuit against Tonto National Forest.

The Center for Biological Diversity has filed a federal lawsuit to remove the Salt River Wild Horses from the Lower Salt River. Their suit is based on inaccurate and unfounded information, claiming that the existence of the horses is a detriment to the natural environment of the forest and the river. There are no facts to back up those claims. On the contrary, all evidence shows that these horses actually enhance the health of the ecosystem by eating the dry grasses that are susceptible to wildfires (thus protecting the habitats for other species), spreading seeds for new growth through their manure, creating trails through the forest which act as firebreaks. These iconic horses exist in close harmony with the other native wildlife: big horn sheep and bald eagle populations are increasing, and river otters, fox, coyotes, mule deer, javelina, and birds are plentiful. More damage is done to the ecosystem of the Salt River by irresponsible humans and violent flooding caused by SRP than any wildlife currently living there.

What the Salt River Wild Horse herd adds to the natural environment is immeasurable. Aside from the beauty and peace that they provide, they also attract millions of tourists who come to vacation here from all over the world specifically to enjoy their natural beauty in their natural habitat. These are consumers who patronize our hotels, restaurants, car rentals, sporting goods stores, river rafting and other forms of entertainment and amenities, spending a great deal of money in our economy. Tourist information sources consider the horses a major point of interest for their beauty and historical importance.

The Salt River Wild Horses are being humanely managed to control population growth and ensure sufficiency of forage in their designated area of the Tonto National Forest. The SRWHMG is working closely with the Tonto USFS and the AZDA in an amazing private/public partnership that provides a great example of what could be accomplished all over the US.
This organization supports whoever pays them, regardless of any principles.

Center for Biological diversity has an M.O. in which they engage in lawfare against Gov agencies to force Gov agencies to enact CBD desired policies. They successfully removed the Alpine Wild Horses in Arizona and have now sued the Forest service to negate the contract with Salt River Wild Horse Management to humanely control and manage the wild horses in my area. The complaint makes spurious allegations, not based on fact and SRWHM will have to raise money to pay for legal services to combat this unwanted undesirable action by CBD.
CBD has never had any cleanups on the river, never had any information events, never done ANYTHING in this area, while SRWHMG has worked to put together a coalition of volunteers, private donors AND work with the gov agencies for a SUCCESFUL program to manage herd size and conditions.

CBD is lawfare eco terrorists and should be barred from filing any further malicious cases unless they post at least $1million bond, get at least 60% approval of voters in areas that they intend to try to force their policies on, and have to pay restitution to the communities that they terrorize with these antagonistic lawsuits they file against smaller, local environmental groups.

The Center for Biological Diversity is by far the finest and most effective protector of life on Earth that I know of. They first got my attention with their campaign of Endangered Species condoms, highlighting the fact that virtually every environmental problem is based on human overpopulation; and for years I was appalled at the lack of this acknowledgement by every other environmental org. I follow and support several other environmental orgs, but the Center stands head and shoulders above the rest. I have attended California Fish and Game Commission meetings and seen their extraordinarily brilliant lawyers in action. Their success rate speaks for itself. In this time of mass extinctions, we need the leadership of the Center to save as much as possible from greed and indifference. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Center for Biological Diversity is a 15.

To paraphrase Lydia Millet - it is looking outside ourselves as humans that give humans our deepest meaning. We are but a small part of the web of life and every species has a profound roll to play. The Center for Biological Diversity is not afraid to challenge bad government policies, greedy developers, or anyone who would happily degrade our environment and quality of life just to make a quick profit at our expense. The Center sent out a form to help anyone who wanted to comment to the Forest Service about the Lutsen Mountains request for a Special Use Permit. If the Forest Service approves that request, it would allow a ski resort to expand on public lands that are currently used by hikers, back-country skiers, and snowmobilers, effectively kicking all of those users our of land that belongs to all of us. Expanding on that land would also break the 1854 Treaty with several Native American tribes. And it would destroy land that is currently home to endangered bats and lynx. Pollution from the added ski runs would run downhill into a Minnesota Scientific and Natural Area, which currently protects one of the largest intact tracts of Superior Highlands old-growth hardwoods. Last but not least, with our currently warming climate, we should not be allowing a ski resort to cut down trees, just so a few rich people can get even richer. The Center for Biological Diversity has helped us to fight that, and hopefully will be there to continue to fight for this place if needed.

The Center for Biological Diversity is my favorite environmental charity. Nearly every time I pick up a newspaper, I see an environmental story in which the Center is involved. Unlike many environmental organizations that merely advocate, the Center sues when needed and frequently wins. In many cases the target is some federal or other bureaucracy that has the power to act but doesn't either out of laziness or timidity. Center lawsuits successfully force these agencies to do their job. The Center is staffed with high quality lawyers and scientists, and I think this is why so many of the lawsuits are successful.

Think about what each of us "takes" in order to live even a basic human existence. TAKE LESS.

The Center for Biological Diversity does an immense amount of boring, hard, frustrating, and long-term-commitment-requiring work to make enormous impact on our planet. This is the work most of us lack the patience, knowledge, and skill to do, but it's SO important. We can enact the greatest environmental policies in the world, but if nobody is making sure they're enforced, it doesn't matter. The folks at the Center for Biological Diversity do fantastic work and have an outsized impact.

The Center for Biological Diversity is the very epitome of a truly excellent environmental/ecological organization that is always, always on top of every issue that this planet is imperiled with as a result of humancentrism. They have been here for decades, doing the good dogged detailed work every day, and succeeding in law suits with the most challenged government agencies, doing exposes on what we all don't want to believe happens daily in cruelty to fauna and flora, and educating us all along the way. I cannot express my gratitude deeply enough for everything every member of this organization does to fight, educate and change the face of Earth to be one of agency, health, well-being and freedom for all the more-than-human beings.

There are many environmental organizations doing fine work. Among them, I believe the Center for Biological Diversity stands out: I've always been impressed by the large number of threatened species the Center manages to protect. And they're very good at what they do, usually they win protection for the precious animal, bird, plant, reptile, amphibian, insect, etc. and its environment. And they never give up, even when there is a setback.

I've written to them on two occasions over the years to bring a local issue to their attention in case they weren't already working on it. In the first case, I emailed in the middle of the night and was astonished to receive an immediate response from another night owl who explained in some detail how they were tackling the issue. In the second case, I wrote another ICYMI note about a devastating project that had just been proposed and two days later they sent a petition against it, and succeeded in stopping it. This is a big country, it is amazing how the Center manages to take specific, effective steps to protect critical biological diversity wherever their help is needed. They understand the interconnectedness of all life and IMO are very effective at protecting it.

My degree is in biology and I've been impressed with the Center's critical focus on preserving biological diversity. I've chosen to donate to them when I can out of the many environmental organizations who need money because they don't mess around! They take action on issues, suing when necessary, and often win because of their deep understanding both of the issue in question and of the law. Recently when I felt especially desperate over the impending destruction of some of our precious wildlands and backcountry communities for the sake of environmentally destructive factory wind energy production (in areas the locals had shown through months of scrupulous weather balloon work had virtually no wind), I reached out to them. Though I had attended community meetings I hadn't heard about their name mentioned. I had also gone to a Sierra Club meeting and found, as in Sierra Magazine, what I interpreted to be an uncritical factory wind farm anywhere any time attitude. So I wrote an email about the problems we are facing and sent it late on a Sunday night. I received a reply that same night. It wasn't a robo reply, it was a detailed note from the human person I sent it to telling me they were aware of the problems and mentioning ways they were actively involved. I think these people must work 24/7. After watching them in action for years, I've concluded they're smart, they are passionate, they understand the plant and animal communities they try to protect, they seem to choose their battles carefully, and they get results.

They're the best of the best.
I've followed CBD for two decades or more....I take part every week in their actions, attend their many accessible and educational classes. When I write a letter to them, they answer back. They have local chapters on the ground we can connect with. They're not just a faceless, money-laundering entity. They do far more than environmental organizations many times their size, to save wildlife. They are engaged constantly in not only education and campaigns, but they deliver lawsuit after lawsuit, when our agencies have failed us, when protections are absent for our most endangered and threatened species. I like how they're unflinching and unfailing, and when it's time to drop diplomacy (because finally, it won't work) and get the job done, they do it.

I'm particularly grateful for their focus on wolves...the most maligned of creatures. As Idaho and Montana and their wolf-killing allies decimate mothers and pups and packs, in this keystone and especially social and intelligent species....CBD is out there on the ground fighting for their survival. I fight along side them, even when just in spirit and financial support, and I'm glad to do so.

I feel that when I give $25 to CBD, that they're going to use it wisely. Give them your money, but give them your time, and your respect....they're good stuff--and you can't say that about all the big Greenies.

Since I believe, in view of species extinction and human-caused climate degradation. that we need to stabilize (and likely decrease) human population and "GDP" growth (see for example the book "An Inconvenient Apocalypse"), I fully support the work of the Center toward these goals. There are numerous NGOs pussyfooting around this issue, apparently because the only available support is from the left ("putting people first"), with the right working to "develop" every square inch and ban abortion (and probably birth control itself eventually). Even though I give only four stars as an absolute rating, it is a 5+ on a relative basis, given the timidity of most other groups, who should receive far lower ratings. Many of these groups are pursuing confusing and counterproductive strategies that will not meaningfully address climate degradation.

They partner with many environmental groups and together they fight and win legal battles that protect life on Earth.

Their efforts range across the U.S., so when I lived in Tucson, they were fighting causes I cared about there. Now that I live in the California Desert, they once again are here for me locally fighting to list the western Joshua tree as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act.

I couldn't possibly stay informed on such a broad range of environmental issues without the Center for Biological Diversity. And their success rate in winning legal battles to protect the environment is outstanding.

What amazing work this organisation does. As an ecologist myself I find that every newsletter from this non-profit contains the real life stories of success, power, loss and unwavering commitment to Nature, that which we are made of and that which many humans in modern society have detached from. Thank you fighting and speaking on behalf of those that cannot and may your empowerment of those that continue to be needed to be noticed drive on, creating the cracks in greed itself. Power to the People who put our Great Mother first. Thank you for being part of that journey.

This is by far the best nonprofit organization around. They make real change by taking the important issues to court and making legal action force the change to come about. If the laws change, habitats are protected, animal rights are protected, then real change is being enforced.

Everyone who cares about wildlife, or the environment should look at this nonprofit organization. They will not be disappointed, they will become elated! To see the change this group can bring about, the voices and the issues they tackle, make you truly want to join in, get involved and be part of this positive change.

This group knows that our home needs protecting, our environment and our wildlife are an integral part of our home.

This organization is there at the front lines for all these issues. They address the issues people don't want to talk about but need to.

This nonprofit is the best one I've seen, and I've stayed with them for well over a decade now, while I've been a part of other nonprofits that I've left because they didn't do anything, take any action, make any change, other than ask for donations. This nonprofit actually does something with those donations. We see it. Court costs are ridiculous but they go anyway, they fight to bring about that change - no matter the cost. They show up everywhere they are needed. They take action and they make action. They bring positive changes to the system.

This is the kind of group all others should model themselves after. That's how good this one is.

The Center is one of the best nonprofits to be involved with. They are hitting hard where it counts, forcing the changes that need to be made right at the source, to protect wildlife and habitat across the USA. They are not about just marching in the street with a wonderful voice, they are also in the courtrooms, onsite at destruction trying to help clean up, online informing us with videos and information, and everywhere else anyone with a passion for protecting wildlife and the environment would be. The Center is truly a leader to follow.

I stumbled upon the Center about a year ago, after signing one of their petitions online. I had been growing increasingly concerned about the unprecedented corruption of our governmental institutions under the previous Presidential administration, especially with regard to the agencies who are supposed to PROTECT our wildlife and environment, not destroy it. I was happy to see that this organization was actively fighting to protect our precious lands, wildlife, and environment.

In the months that followed, I researched the Center and learned that they were doing far more to protect our planet and its living creatures, than I ever imagined. I decided to become a member and support them, and I have no regrets. They are one nonprofit that I feel I can fully trust, and they consistently get real results. Their newsletter is always a welcome sight to see, and they waste no time getting directly to the information on the newest fights they're facing, and the many frequent wins and true progress they're achieving!

I'm very careful with the nonprofits I choose to support, due to the unfortunate number of corrupt one's that exist, but I have no worries or concerns about the CFBD at all! I'm extremely happy to know that there's people like them fighting to defend our planet and its diverse living inhabitants!

Keep up the great work!

Having worked for 2 decades in international conflict resolution (primarily religiously motivated peacemaking), I then learned about the Sixth Mass Extinction Underway (see David Ulansey website by this name). I resolved to work, henceforth, to preserve the entire community of life. I reasoned that by working for peacemaking only among humans, thereby potentially enlarging the human population, it could hasten ecological collapse by way of human exploitation of the planet and the larger community of life. I also reasoned that once we embrace all of life as precious, we just might stop demonizing human groupings that are different from us---"the enemy other". That's a long lead-in to explain why I value the Center for Biological Diversity so highly. They are the state of the art in educating us about and defending the diversity of life on planet Earth. I am a very modest donor only because of my financial circumstances. It is by no means a measure of the esteem in which I hold this organization!

I am a subscriber to the Center for Biological Diversity newsletter, which I read with great interest and enthusiasm. They have good objectives, and they are willing to take on corruption and the lackeys that give no regard to the environment.

I am deeply appreciative or their opposition to those big mining interests, such as the Rosemont Mine and Rio Tinto's Oak Flat. Those corporations want to make a moonscape out of the beautiful Arizona landscapes. This is an organization that is determined to save our water resources, protect species, protect the landscape and environment, and educate the public. Whenever I get a notification to sign a petition or submit public comments, I always do so with enthusiasm and the hope that the natural world is protected. They also work in the interests of the native American Indians.

As a science teacher for more than 30 years who has worked toward a goal of students and others caring more about other living beings of ALL sorts on Earth, I greatly appreciate the uncompromising holistically healthy stance CBD consistently takes as an advocate for the well-being of all species and ecosystems. CBD always sticks up for healthy ecosystems, including all denizens, FIRST and foremost, often in opposition to many of the myths of so-called "progress" and the typical "American Dream" which has caused so much environmental damage by its myopic over-consumptive habits. It's not, for CBD, about coddling outdated and myopic destructive human habits that still persist, despite the relatively new knowledge we have gained about ecology and our impacts in the last 50+ years.

Besides their invaluable and expert legal efforts, those at CBD also are wonderful educators, sharing their enthusiasm and love for the amazing non-human Earthlings, both floral and faunal, that comprise the healthy ecosystems upon which we humans depend for the long-term quality of our own existence. By enthusing others, CBD aids planetary health.

I also appreciate CBD's willingness to enable me to participate through petitions and other actions even though I am currently unable to financially support them in the limited ways I was previously at least able to chip in. THANK YOU, Center for Biological Diversity !

At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature — to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters and climate that species need to survive.

We want those who come after us to inherit a world where the wild is still alive.

This is the one non-profit that I consistently support because they are on the front lines saving endangered species and they get results! While there are many important environmental organizations doing great work, the Center for Biological Diversity are out there making things happen, and not just in far off localities.

I live in Colorado Springs where a rare species of greenback cutthroat trout was proven to be a unique species. The area is now managed differently with cars banned from the dirt road along the stream. This has cut down on the dust, erosion and gravel that had previously negatively impacted the stream and the trout.

I give this group my highest rating and hope they can continue their important work until that day, far into the future, when they have worked themselves out of a job. For the foreseeable future however, we need this group more than ever!

Wildlife Services contracted with a man who killed bears, mountain lions, and other wildlife without educating the public about how to interact with these animals. In one instance, he killed a bear that had raided garbage and dog food left out on a porch for weeks—with the excuse that the bear was threatening a toddler who lived in the house. He did not bother to tell the parents that the garbage and dog food, not the child, was attracting the bear. This was simply one horrible example among years' worth. He was criticized in public meetings, in newspaper articles, in letters to the editor, but nothing was done until the Center for Biological Diversity stepped up and advocated for his dismissal. Thank goodness that worked.
I've never known another national nonprofit that gets into the nitty-gritty with county boards of supervisors and officials all over the west. They are a true boots-on-the-ground nonprofit and deserve support from everyone who cares about wildlife, climate change, and the vast extinction that we are now witnessing.

I love the Center for Biological Diversity because of all the work it does in many areas that I am concerned with. Wildlife is a huge issue for me but other aspects of the environment as well. Trying to reduce the effects of climate change and steer the world toward renewable energy is a huge issue. I have traveled to the Arctic and Antarctica where you can easily see the effects of global warming. Dealing with poaching and wildlife trafficking is important. Saving the forests, clearing the oceans of plastic and fish nets that snare unintended fish, animal trapping, trophy hunting and poisoning, and making the rivers safe for salmon and other fish is all important. Saving the wolves and polar bears and so many other apex animals is a necessity. Creating better wildlife corridors, not building walls. And so much not mentioned. The Center for Biological Diversity is in my will for a large bequest.

Center for Biological Diversity is by far my favorite environmental non-profit, and I donate to them regularly through my Amazon Smile account. They are one of the few environmental groups bold enough and wise enough to address that a shift toward a plant-based diet is crucial to our planet's future through their Take Extinction Off Your Plate campaign. I am so proud to support them and their efforts on behalf of all species!

Center for Biological Diversity is one of the few environmental non-profits that is educating the public about the effect of animal agriculture on biodiversity with their Take Extinction Off Your Plate campaign, which is really a crisis that very few are talking about. They are also one of the few organizations who are educating people about the human overpopulation problem with their 7 Billion and Counting campaign, which includes clever slogans on the endangered species condoms. I'm a vegan and I choose not to have children to do the most I can for the planet, so they very much align with my personal feelings on how to best achieve a sustainable world.

I've been a supporter and member of this organization for a long time. Twice, a friend of mine and I have volunteered to participate in a CBD presentation at the Natural History Museum in San Diego. Both nights the museum was hosting a night for "Adultologists" . These festive occasions attracted large groups of people to the museum, who, as they were passing us , saw our colorful boxes with different pictures of endangered species on them that were displayed on our table. We were able to disseminate a lot of information to people regarding environmental concerns and even gave tests to people to help them to determine individual carbon footprints. The purpose of the colorful boxes with rhymes on them and condoms inside was to remind people of the reality of human over-population of the earth, and their individual responsibility in that problem. The explanation showing the size of the carbon footprint of each child born, especially in a first world country, is a very straight forward way of pointing out an important factor in the extinction of endangered species; over-population, which results in destruction of habitat, food and water, and breeding partners. Many, many people came by to talk, read, and listen to the messages from CBD. Every response both nights was positive and a lot of the participants thanked the volunteers for their work there. I would gladly volunteer again to support the Center for Biological Diversity so that the organization, its work and accomplishments are more widely known.

This is one of, if not the, best organization fighting to save threatened and endangered species. They just experienced a key win in getting Washington governor Jay Inslee to direct his state's wildlife agency to draft new rules governing the killing of wolves over livestock conflicts. Considering the huge number of wolves killed over the years to protect livestock, this is a major move in the right direction, led by the Center getting its supporters to exert much pressure on Inslee. They're pushing back on the Trump administration's use of the pandemic to abandon vital environmental laws. They work to protect all species, including plants. They also don't mail out tons of junk, like mailing labels, notepads, and stickers, that wastefully use resources and contribute to the waste stream.

We need both these practical approaches and also the inspiration to engage if we're going to make changes and protect our world, and the Center excels at both.

I have been following the work of the Center for Biological Diversity for many years now. I am continually impressed with the information they disseminate to the public especially regarding the public land issues. If it were not for this organization many of the protections that have been under attack by the administration (Bear Ears, End. Species Act, Clean Water and Clean Air acts, etc) would have prevailed. This org does excellent work to keep the protections for public lands and wildlife that we have fought so hard to gain. There is so much work to be done and thanks to these folks, we now know more about what is happening than ever before. Keep up the good work!

When the Center For Biological Diversity started the campaign "Call of the Wild" to bring attention to the plight of wolves across the 48 contiguous United States, I signed up to help and collected dozens of signatures on comment cards. I thought it was a very good way to stimulate public awareness and pressure the government to stop weakening the Endangered Species Act. These grass roots efforts are essential if we, as a nation, are going to stop the environmental destruction perpetrated by today's federal government. The Center for Biological Diversity is quick to initiate well-directed campaigns that involve and educate the public. Cheers to Cntr4BioDiv!

Just recently I participated as a volunteer for the first time, collecting and delivering petitions to my local House Representative to save the Endangered Species Act. Even though I had never done anything like that before, they made it so easy to do. They provided coaching, step-by-step instructions and everything I needed to be successful. The Center for Biological Diversity is a unique and effective group of hardworking people who want to preserve and protect our planet and all its life forms. Most of our nation's wildlife laws emanate from legislation, with the judicial system as a backdrop. The Center recognizes this and aims for the courts first and foremost--this is why they have been so successful. They fight not only because all those "others" who inhabit our planet have no voice, but even more so because they have far more "earth standing" than our own species. Simply put, the laws of man can never supersede the laws of nature, and the miracle of all Life.

So, today the 6 year old grand-dau. says, "...Mimi, why do you like plants and animals so much?" as I look on their kitchen table at the flyer that her school's environmental club is going to Wild Basin on nature hike, bring lunch, etc...The sponsor says that she is the youngest in the club and the most engaged and organized. I am giving money for snacks. So, I say, " UUHHHHMMM, well my daddy was a farmer and mama was a gardener" as she wanders to the window filled with cuttings of scallions and some kind of Asian bamboo-looking plant that her dad will soon cook with.
My yard that she sees often is filled with plants from my mother's garden...day lilies that she hybridized, and strange little red cannas. She died in 1992, but still lives among the other plants from seeds that I "liberated" from various neighbors while walking with Jamie Brown, the brown lab, and my husband, who believes that to be a form of stealing. I, however, believe that the seeds parent's would be pleased if they could see them now.
Lately I built a fence(big fence out of cedar posts and goat wire) around bird feeders to keep new neighbor cat from killing the wild parrots originally from Argentina who now are in the yard daily with many occasional birds and the locals.... doves, grackles with one leg, squirrels who bury everything, including grapes.... My husband spends ridiculous dollars on wild bird seed, by the 100 pound sacks. He had to get a dolly so he would not hurt his back bringing the sacks into the house.
We live in a neighborhood that was little post-WWI cottages that are mostly McMansions now, except for us and a few others. We do not have a "manicured lawn" like a dentist office, but the morning glories, red cardinal climber, gourds, pumpkin, and other vines are getting to be exceptional.
So, I am happy to donate to like-minded, or actually, love-minded people. Keep up the fine work.

As a volunteer activist working to protect southern Arizona's last remaining intact desert river ecosystem, the San Pedro watershed, I can say from my experience that CBD is more willing to take on powerful interests than many environmental groups. While some groups are perpetually seeking compromises that often benefit the god of growth at the expense of wild areas, CBD understands the importance of protecting the last remaining habitat zones and wildlife corridors. This tends not to be a popular approach for maintaining an environmental organization these days, because there is a much smaller donor base in the more remote areas. Rather than mostly doing "safe" projects that attract big corporate donors and government grants, CBD is more willing to stick their neck out.

I remember the photo of David Sive on the front page of the Sunday NY Times, in the early 70s, in a report on the first major environmental law test before the U.S. Supreme Court -- a suit endeavoring to protect sea otters off Alaska from practice shelling by the U.S. Navy.... I have been an online activist for this organization for several years. For decades they've been one of the most reliable advocates for endangered species, mostly through legal and policy work. While this very important strategy continues, I love that they have expanded their strategies to include raising awareness of some of the broader threats to endangered species, such as gender inequality and its impact on unsustainable population growth; over-consumption, including food waste, our animal product-centered diets and the meat, dairy, egg and fishing industry's irresponsible practices, and our fossil fuel-based economy. Many large groups don't address some of these more controversial issues but since they are some of the biggest drivers of extinction and habitat loss, they must be addressed in more visible ways. I also love that the CBD team advocates for endangered species because protecting them is the smart thing to do for our environment AND because it's the right thing to do for the wild animals themselves. Not all groups have such a strong ethic towards animals. They produce great e-newsletters and whenever CBD has an online call to action, I get involved. Please support this organization with donations and your activism.

I'm not sure if anything more can be said about the stellar work the Center for Biological Diversity is engaged in. There are a lot of groups out there who collect a lot of money for online petitions or advertising, with opaque management and questionable results. I see the Center on the ground taking legal action, bringing gains for our collective future that we can be proud of. I chose to become a quarterly donor so that they can continue their amazing work.

I love this organization for too many reasons to list. First and foremost, however, I get the sense that the CBD is ready to jump in to defend our natural world no matter what their current workload might be. I find the Center's indefatigable attitude personally inspiring. Whenever I buy a Powerball ticket I imagine myself inviting Kieran Suckling out for an hour long lunch with a monster check in my pocket. Kieran and the CBD's entire staff have earned my respect and gratitude. The CBD is one of this country's gems.

As a local coordinator for a Friends of the Earth Group in Torfaen, South Wales, UK, I relish receiving reports from the Center for Biological Diversity as it encourages us to continue to work for our own local biodiversity. I love to read about the species of creatures I will never see but rejoice in their existence. Also we are battling to prevent fracking from taking place in our lovely country of Wales and your experiences of this dangerous practice informs our arguments in opposing such plans here.
Well done CBD! Keep up the good work.

The Center for Biological Diversity has motivated me to take numerous actions on behalf of wildlife and the environment. The Center for Biological Diversity deserves great credit for encouraging their members to reduce their consumption of animal products. Animal agriculture is responsible for significant deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions that are devastating the Earth's environment and driving a dangerous global warming. Adopting a vegan diet is a win, win, win for the environment, human health, and of course all the billions of animals killed cruelly every year in factory farms.

CBD is among the top three of about 50 environmental/conservation organizations I support on a regular basis. CBD stands well above most others because of its combination of outstanding science and incisive legal action to ensure our laws are enforced for the sake of all species of animals and plants. I had the opportunity to participate in one of their annual retreats and became better acquainted with the staff. CBD is extraordinary in drawing attention to how HUMAN OVERPOPULATION is the root cause of most of our environmental and conservation problems: the rampant conversion of natural lands and resources (e.g. water) to suit the desires of endless humans.

I donate annually to CBD because they are at the forefront of many of the issues I am most concerned about, including protections for threatened & endangered species, climate change mitigation, exposing the public and environmental health risks of extreme fossil fuels, and connecting the dots between global population growth and the current extinction crisis. I appreciate the fact that, in addition to educating the public, CBD also uses the law to stop abuses and implement solutions to big problems. CBD has, for example, been instrumental in the Landmark 757 Species Settlement, exposing corporate agriculture's motivations for funding the CA water bond, & suits against offshore fracking, against Ventura County, CA's approval of fracking in Santa Paula Cyn, & Nestlé's theft of public water in the San Bernardino National Forest for private profit through bottling. CBD currently earns an 86.95 Total Score from Charity Navigator, a Charity Watch A rating, a Guide Star Gold rating, and in 2011 was named a Philanthropedia top nonprofit in the area of Animal Welfare, Rights & Protection. CBD consistently earns my financial & activist support year after year.

The State of Oregon's Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) Commission has decided to remove wolves from the state's Endangered Species list, despite a wolf population of only 84 wolves. I was aware of this upcoming hearing and had been lobbying for maintaining these protections with help from The Center for Biological Diversity. The Center's emails kept me informed of the course of the State's actions. I asked for help from The Center in the form of sample letters I could read before writing to ODFW. I got immediate help with my request. Several hearings and letters later, the bad news came in that the ODFW Commission ignored the facts and the science and bowed to the hunting and livestock special interests. I turned to The Center praying that they would have some answers for what to do next and looking to make a donation to fuel any organization that would make a legal challenge to the ODFW Commission. This is truly an environmental "little engine that could" -- working on a relative shoestring to score big victories, all the while keeping its donors informed of its progress on various fronts. I also appreciate its emphasis on population issues, an integral component of environmentalism which, for purposes of political correctness, most of the larger organizations don't want to touch. For those who want to get a lot of bang for their donation buck, there is no more efficient and effective group than this.

I've been giving to environmental causes since I earned my first full-time paycheck in 1976. We make substantial annual gifts to about 15 of them right now, and have been so impressed with the Center for Biological Diversity (which we only discovered about 3 years ago) that it is named as a beneficiary in our wills. If the salary information on the Director is any guide, the Center's staff earns a mere pittance considering the out-sized influence they have on protection of the ecosystems our most vulnerable species need to survive. Further, they are extremely responsive to their membership, with regular e-mailed newsletters consisting of short, enjoyable, well-written updates on 8-10 issues they're currently working on, including their successes and direct links within the piece to action e-mails. From time to time they conduct hour-long phone calls on a topic of interest, led by the Director and open to questions from the donors. I've e-mailed the staff a couple of times and have always gotten a timely response. While I enjoy the coddling, it's really my great faith in the enormity of the work they do, and the efficiency with which they do it, that so endears me to the Center. They are committed professionals at the top of my donation list and will always have my support.

The Center for Biological Diversity sends very detailed information about specific environmental issues, and allows me to take part in actions related to many of those issues.

The Center for Biological Diversity does the most research on the most minute issues that could directly affect wildlife and plant species and the environment. Very few, if any, vital topics escape their review. This is followed up by specific plans of action for each item. The Center also has the most elaborate auxiliary network of co-sponsors and publicity groups.

I am a part of several organizations that are watchdogs for the environment and wildlife . I am especially proud to be a part of this group, that fights in our courts and through education of the public. In particular, I love getting their regular updates on the causes I support, as well as new projects I am not aware of.

The Center is one of the most dedicated and effective wildlife and wilderness protection and conservation organizations I support. The actions they take have contributed to many large steps towards saving us from the perils of climate change and all of its causes.

CBD has impressed me without exception year after year. Their compassion toward all creatures and their concern for the habitat of all living things is genuine and tireless. Through CBD, I have been made aware of many environmental and animal welfare issues I never would have learned about otherwise. The organization's communications are clear and highly informative, and they are never "commercialized", nor are they burdensome to my inbox. I always research organizations before I support them, and CBD consistently receives high ratings and is referenced by well-regarded scientists and champions of animals and the Earth. I am continually amazed by CBD's abilities to uncover areas of need and to devote its personnel's energies to tackling the problems in the most effective ways possible. And these noble people never stop fighting to protect natural resources and all of our world's precious species. I am deeply grateful for the kindness, intelligence, and tenacity of everyone who works on behalf of the Center for Biological Diversity.

CBD's work in Az has been fantastic one if not the best non-profit action-oriented environmental agencies in the country.

The Center is outstanding because they do what needs to be done without hesitation. Too many environmental and other non-profits spend too much time talking and not enough time doing. The Center takes the fight to every level -- the media, the courts, and the government. That's why they are so effective. I love this bunch!

Unlike most other environmental groups I support, the Center is willing and ready to take action in court. This, I believe, accounts for the Center's resounding success over the years.

The Center for Biological Diversity is a "Get it done" environmental activism group. They take anybody to court and hold their feet to the fire. The Center wades thru the bureaucratic walls and delivers a legal punch that cannot be denied.

CBD's mission to protect species and this planet's biodiversity is a noble one, albeit controversial at times. Despite the pushback from many interest groups, the Center for Biological Diversity continues to prove to be extremely successful, overcoming the odds. Well done CBD. Please keep up the great work protecting those on this planet without a voice.

As a former employee of a governmental wildlife agency, it is great to see to see an independent nonprofit organization that champions our wildlife heritage. We sure cannot leave it up to the government!

This nonprofit provides education, political action, and a wonderful community presence on behalf of the non-verbal population of planet earth. Come to think of it, that benefits us verbalists, too. Very enriching and effective organization.

This group works tirelessly to protect our environment and animals from the greed and corruption that is filling our government and leaders --heck private people now have more power to use public lands for their personal profit than the public realizes --cattle, sheep, and fossil fuel explorers are telling the BLM what they can do and can't do --they have more private animals on our public lands yet still want to eliminate the wild horses, nesting birds, and other animals and plants on OUR land--thank GOD there is this wonderful organization that is a REAL non profit --not like the scams of Citizen's United, etc. --

CBD is always "on top of things." I find their communications to be particularly good - the succinct summaries of current issues in the weekly email gives me an overview, and I know I can check for more details on their website or other sites they link to. I am lucky enough to have worked with CBD staff on issues in my local community, and have the utmost regard for their dedication, skill, patience, and perseverance. I believe in their effectiveness enough to have become a monthly donor, and would raise the amount if I could!

I have donated to the Center for many years now. It is a remarkable advocate for the web of life that sustains us all. Unlike many environmental organizations, it takes the holistic view that all species are important because all are linked. And so it fights, persistently and strategically, to preserve every one that it can -- decade after decade, seemingly indefatigably, against powerful moneyed interests and shortsighted governmental bureaucracies alike. In short, Kieran Suckling and his crew are among the heroes that our environment so desperately needs during this time of crisis, on the precipice of the sixth mass extinction in the history of the world -- the only one caused by humans.
