Review for Center for Biological Diversity Inc, Tucson, AZ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

So, today the 6 year old grand-dau. says, "...Mimi, why do you like plants and animals so much?" as I look on their kitchen table at the flyer that her school's environmental club is going to Wild Basin on nature hike, bring lunch, etc...The sponsor says that she is the youngest in the club and the most engaged and organized. I am giving money for snacks. So, I say, " UUHHHHMMM, well my daddy was a farmer and mama was a gardener" as she wanders to the window filled with cuttings of scallions and some kind of Asian bamboo-looking plant that her dad will soon cook with.
My yard that she sees often is filled with plants from my mother's garden...day lilies that she hybridized, and strange little red cannas. She died in 1992, but still lives among the other plants from seeds that I "liberated" from various neighbors while walking with Jamie Brown, the brown lab, and my husband, who believes that to be a form of stealing. I, however, believe that the seeds parent's would be pleased if they could see them now.
Lately I built a fence(big fence out of cedar posts and goat wire) around bird feeders to keep new neighbor cat from killing the wild parrots originally from Argentina who now are in the yard daily with many occasional birds and the locals.... doves, grackles with one leg, squirrels who bury everything, including grapes.... My husband spends ridiculous dollars on wild bird seed, by the 100 pound sacks. He had to get a dolly so he would not hurt his back bringing the sacks into the house.
We live in a neighborhood that was little post-WWI cottages that are mostly McMansions now, except for us and a few others. We do not have a "manicured lawn" like a dentist office, but the morning glories, red cardinal climber, gourds, pumpkin, and other vines are getting to be exceptional.
So, I am happy to donate to like-minded, or actually, love-minded people. Keep up the fine work.
Mimi
