Minneapolis Nonprofits and Charities

Over north is a hard place to live for a lot of reasons. One of the huge reasons is programs like this who claim to help the community but really are hindering us. I lived under they're management and nothing has been fixed without being told the problems where my fault and would be out of pocket. After asking for my vent to be fixed I was retaliated against by them towing my car. I am low income and was never able to get it out. I bought that car with my stimulus and all of that is gone now. I do not recommend this program I attempted to contact multiple people and no one ever emailed me back. This program is a good example of how people over north are treated by landlords and It shows why crime is so high over here. Places like this keep people in poverty and have forced myself and my kids back into desperate situations.

Mpls. Community & Technical College (MCTC) has partnered with PPL on several occasions and over many years. We recently introduced a successful Pharmacy Technician training program. PPL is a flexible, fair and transparent organization, very dedicated to serving their clients. They understand the needs and challenges of providing education and supply the wrap around services needed to ensure student success. The work we do together is important and very rewarding. Thank you, PPL, for your continued partnership!

You definitely do NOT want to live at Balsam Hill Apartments in Mound!! The management here is terrible. She takes all of our rights away, and treats us like we are in jail. She's always on a power trip!!! She's young and has not a clue of what she is doing. She shouldn't even be in the office. Her job is NOT essential!!!

The way my case manager Mary constructs information when explaining things always confuses and frustrates me. I usually have to interrupt her and assert my stance on the topics that are relevant for me to understand. <br> <br>Mary usually asserts that it makes sense to her I repetitively have to let her know that I am the client and this is suppose to be a "client centered" program and therefore, you should explain the information in the most supportive way to my comprehension.

I highly recommend the Destiny Center because they have diligently worked for the good of others over the years! They are striving to make the world better place one person, one family, one community at a time! There are many who have been blessed in different ways by the Destiny Center over the years through the different programs and services that they have offered. They have offered tutoring, food, clothes to name a few and have also had marriage enrichment. I have volunteered with the Destiny Center in different capacities through the years; it was definitely time well spent!

I have worked in the area of child safeguarding for many years. As a volunteer I have been involved with many projects supporting children's rights in several countries in East Africa and I count myself very fortunate to have had the privilege of visiting Kids Home International upon two occasions. The first time I visited was in December 2011 when the home was being run from a small rented house. In December 2012 I was able to return to Kericho to visit Kids Home International once again, now residing in a new building just outside of town which is able to accommodate many more children in need of their support. <br>What I can say about the success of this project is hardly related to the physical changes which have taken place but more to do with the amazing staff who have run the home now for over 10 years. The dedication and commitment they show on a daily basis to caring for dozens of vulnerable children (on top of their own family commitments) is extremely commendable. It only takes a few minutes for any visitor to feel the great sense of warmth and belonging that exists within the walls of KHI. The compassion and understanding that the staff show towards the children is overwhelmingly inspiring. <br>I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer my time and some resources towards the needs of the home over Christmas. <br>KHI is also a model of transparency and every shilling donated is not only well accounted for but goes directly towards the priority needs of the children, again a huge credit to the staff who follow a strict code of 'watoto kwanza' (children first) in everything they do. <br>Kids Home International is a fantastic place to work or volunteer, or even to visit. So many other children's projects could learn a great deal from them about how we should take care of the needs of orphans and vulnerable children. <br>There is a great deal of work still to be undertaken at KHI and it has the capacity now to serve so many more needy children in the town of Kericho. I would recommend to anyone reading this who has a desire to reach out and help in a project that is deserving of their support to contact KHI and make a donation. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Kericho, Kenya, go and do more than that. Go and make a real difference. Or at least go and meet the staff and learn how real differences are made.

Every Third Saturday is a life changing organization that mainly targets military veterans who struggle with PTSD as well as veterans in need of clothes supplies and other life changing events. I first heard of ETS through my girlfriend and her parents and so I started to read more and more about ETS. The more I read the more involved I wanted to be. As a active duty member of the Armed Forces I see the hurt and pain that many military members go through out in the field and seeing ETS and what they do has given me a place to direct military veterans who feel like they are too far gone or those who need whatever ETS can provide. I have seen ETS at many events such as concerts and state fairs and they even have a ETS building! ETS is also led by incredibly strong leadership and they give hope through emotional, spiritual, physical and mental comfort. I would highly recommend this non profit and if you or loved ones are trying to find a non profit organization to donate to or even want to help them this is the place. I truly believe that Every Third Saturday is a place where all military veterans and those who need comfort can go to find peace. Be aware, this company does not follow through. It has been 5 years and still nothing has been done except some plumbing work that was not done well at all. The person they send out to go over what you need, this person is suppose to have construction back ground. The person was not knowledgeable. They also kept changing how much $ they would cover. <br>The companies they use, price gouge. I had requested several times for Black Ladder to meet with me to go over the window process and they never would. ( that says a lot). I had 2 attic windows that were completely rotted and leaking and Black Ladder told rebuild they would just patch the windows and would be good as new. ( cost was same to patch as it would have been to just put new windows in) <br>After 3 years of no progress, i had to pay someone to do the work with money I did not have. 3 contractors I told what Black Ladder was going to do to fix the rotted windows, they all said it would not have lasted long and same price to just tear them out and install new windows. <br>I was able to get some plumbing fixes done about 5 years ago, but the company that came out was only suppose to fix some water joints that were leaking. Well they took 6 ft of my copper line out and put plastic, all without asking me. Also put in a smaller cold water plastic line to my tub than what was originally there. So now I have hardly any preasure. While they did that, they also pushed my cold and hot water knobs in tub out and they started to leak. Have had nothing but issues and to take my new copper out was very maddening. All they needed to do were the joints. I would like it fixed but have no idea what company did the work since Rebuild will not help you at all one something is done. Nor reply to you. <br>BE AWARE THIS COMPANY ONLY HELPS WHO THEY WANT AND I AM POSITIVE THEY ARE KEEPING ALL DONATIONS AND FUNDING FOR THEIR POCKETS. THIS IS NOT A TRUE NON PROFIT!!! FIND A DIFF COMPANY TO DEAL WITH BECAUSE IF YOU GO THROUGH THIS COMPANY, YOU WILL ONLY HAVE HEADACHS AND NOTHING WILL GET DONE. <br>TONYA G. <br> <br>

Artspace Projects Inc. Raises money by making promises to have affordable housing for artists and arts organizations. They promise this will be in perpetuity and they guarantee it by claiming they maintain ownership of all of their properties. They take donors money because this is an important issue and too many artists lose their places when the neighborhood they live in and love becomes better off due what the artists have done pricing them out. This is a great cause and one many millions years are donated to. The problem is when Artspace secretly sells off one of it's buildings and to a company that then skyrockets the rent prices and changing the community from Affordable artist housing to the most expensive lofts in their part of town. We understand why remaining quiet about the sale is so important and that is because it's directly opposed to what the donors were donating money for Artspace to do. Mission fail to say the least. The importance not lost on Artspace or their management companies who use intimidation, threats and evictions to keep people silent but there are voices out there with the truth just listen for them. Oh and Artspace Everett Station Lofts’ donors would probably want their donations back especially the ones in Portland did you give them that option?

I lived at the bridge back in 1997 even then they were always there when i needed to talk, help talking to my parents that were abusive and on drugs. Eventually i did end up going to live with my aunt for a year until after alot of work on my behaivor and attitude, my parents addictions and abusiveness. Then i did go back home. Even after i left i went for supportive care. I only remember good things about the bridge. Thanks you for being there for me especially when i needed you.

I extremely enjoyed working for People Serving People as a development intern. The people within the organization are extremely kind and sociable. I entered the organization with little experience, but felt completely going to others for help and questions. I think the internship program is a very good experience for many students. People Serving People opened my eyes to the non-profit sector and I respect their organization immensely. Thank you!

HousingLink has a website with a rental search engine that makes looking for affordable housing much easier. They also have several programs, such as Beyond Backgrounds, that open housing opportunities for folks otherwise underserved.

I almost lost my house in foreclosure after my assigned PRG representative totally failed to do her job at even the most basic level.<br><br>This organization caused more damage than good. Their failures pushed me closer to the edge of foreclosure than keeping me away from it. Precious time was wasted because of their deeply entrenched mediocrity.<br><br>Appallingly bad communication. Failure to correctly advise me regarding critical dates & deadlines. After speaking with the director of the program and requesting a better rep and being told that I was working with their only foreclosure expert, I "fired" the organization and completed the foreclosure prevention on my own.<br><br>Against my wishes, the representative called me to "patch things up", and to boast about their 70% success rate. My response : "Well, that doesn't matter much if you're one of the 30%, does it?"

NRRC is doing the work in housing equity that North Minneapolis needs. They are a one stop shop for community organizing, loan programs and addressing systemic issues facing our community. If anything I wish more people knew about NRRC in order to access their community resources!!

I am temporarily homeless, was hungry and thirsty and had missed any other free meal in downtown. I walked in to a bright and clean facility, was greeted in a friendly manner, and explained my situation. Within a short time, I had been fed with simple, nutritious food, given extra for a later time, and heard words of empowerment according to our common faith tradition. Surprisingly, I was also given a job opening notice for which I will apply. Four needs met in fourteen minutes. . . must be some kind of a record!

If anyone living in the Minneapolis area whom is considered to be long term homeless, should definetely contact this nonprofit. Not only will they help you to get into an apartment, but will also give you a monthly stipend for living expenses. All this will give you mental stability and help with any addictions you may have.

In 2010, I became a Life Skills Facilitator at the Jeremiah Program Thursday evening resident classes. Working along side the residents, staff and community partners has been exceptional. Seeing the challenges, triumphs and everyday-joys these single mothers experience has been eye-opening and inspirational. The amazing, female residents work double-duty to ensure better opportunities in the lives of their children. In turn, they improve the quality of life in the communities around them and they reduce the need for assistance through tax-paid programs. Jeremiah is a "win-win" for those it serves and those who support this sacred work with their donations.
