Be aware, this company does not follow through. It has been 5 years and still nothing has been done except some plumbing work that was not done well at all. The person they send out to go over what you need, this person is suppose to have construction back ground. The person was not knowledgeable. They also kept changing how much $ they would cover.
The companies they use, price gouge. I had requested several times for Black Ladder to meet with me to go over the window process and they never would. ( that says a lot). I had 2 attic windows that were completely rotted and leaking and Black Ladder told rebuild they would just patch the windows and would be good as new. ( cost was same to patch as it would have been to just put new windows in)
After 3 years of no progress, i had to pay someone to do the work with money I did not have. 3 contractors I told what Black Ladder was going to do to fix the rotted windows, they all said it would not have lasted long and same price to just tear them out and install new windows.
I was able to get some plumbing fixes done about 5 years ago, but the company that came out was only suppose to fix some water joints that were leaking. Well they took 6 ft of my copper line out and put plastic, all without asking me. Also put in a smaller cold water plastic line to my tub than what was originally there. So now I have hardly any preasure. While they did that, they also pushed my cold and hot water knobs in tub out and they started to leak. Have had nothing but issues and to take my new copper out was very maddening. All they needed to do were the joints. I would like it fixed but have no idea what company did the work since Rebuild will not help you at all one something is done. Nor reply to you.
BE AWARE THIS COMPANY ONLY HELPS WHO THEY WANT AND I AM POSITIVE THEY ARE KEEPING ALL DONATIONS AND FUNDING FOR THEIR POCKETS. THIS IS NOT A TRUE NON PROFIT!!! FIND A DIFF COMPANY TO DEAL WITH BECAUSE IF YOU GO THROUGH THIS COMPANY, YOU WILL ONLY HAVE HEADACHS AND NOTHING WILL GET DONE.

I filled out applications for years for help from Rebuilding Together Twin Cities. Finally, I won the lottery. A lot of work was needed at my house. They came and spent about three hours assessing the needs at my house for electrical and plumbing work. They promised to come back and do work, but never did. I called many times, and they said they were out of money for the year, but that I was first for the next cycle of money in January. It never happened. I called many times, and eventually their website said they were not working in Twin Cities anymore. Their staff asked me to fill out about ten long forms they needed for their funders, where I was asked to express how great they were. I filled these out because they promised to come back. They came at the end of June, and needed forms filled out before the July 1 fiscal deadline. I was used for these forms. They did no work at all. They had no funding but used me fraudulently to create a fictitious client who had received services. I didn't receive services. They did put a CO detector three feet from my gas range, that shrieked if I warmed up some soup. I pulled it down before I lost my hearing. That is the only thing they did, and my house has serious electrical problems. It was all fraudulent. I was used for their purposes. They wasted my time and lied about coming back to do work. I called repeatedly as instructed. Nothing ever came of it. Promises, promises, promises, all broken. Just another Minnesota non-profit fraud case. I'm so sick of fraud in Minnesota. Why are people making salaries and not doing a thing to help their communities? Why is this allowed. Why is there no oversight?
I tend to volunteer for environmental organizations because that is my professional field. I was recruited to work on a planting project a few years ago that was a RTTC project and they passed out a questionniare about volunteering in a home repair capacity. I am also very handy around the house and I had been looking for an organization that had a more immediate impact on people in my community. Environmetal work, especially planting, has a long return. RTTC seemed like a perfect fit so I filled out the questionniare and later was recruited for the Safe At Home program.
One of the easiest decisions I ever made was getting involved with Rebuilding Together-Twin Cities. The mission is very appealing and rewarding; providing direct help and assistance to people in need so they may stay in their homes and lead productive lives. Our work covers a variety of demographics and communities but all have a common need - to be warm and safe. As our populations are aging so is the housing and even in good economic times this is a challenge for many people. Rebuilding Together brings all the pieces together. Donors, sponsors, volunteers and people in need.
I have volunteered for Rebuilding Together Twin Cities since April of 2008. It has become a very important part of my life because I can help people directly in their homes, and I know that I am helping them live with more safety and security. I do several things with RTTC, depending on their needs. Everything I do has both helped the organization and helped me gain new skills and confidence after my recent job loss. Specifically, I work with Safe at Home, where we install grab bars, railings, smoke and CO alarms, window and door locks, etc- anything that will help older adults or those living with a disability be safer in their home. I went from just watching others do the instalation to being able to do it myself. I also work with the home repair program, where we do extensive repairs on homes. It really helps the families because due to circumstances beyond their control, they can´t afford or do the repairs themselves. I have gained a lot of skills (I installed a faucet!), and have also been given some leadership roles with the program. I also help out in other ways, such as data entry, preparation and cleanup after projects (I specialize in cleaning paint brushes). I love working with RTTC and will continue to do so for many years to come. They are particularly good at making sure that I feel appreciated, which is excellent because that´s the ¨payment¨a volunteer receives.
