Regrettably not all of those you try to help are worthy to be in this country, and do not live up to the laws of God. One of your 14 year old young men travelled to Washington State and mugged my 90 year old mother in the parking lot of Safeway in the daylight - it was gang initiated. They knocked her to the ground and stole her purse. ICE was not allowed to arrest him because he was illegal and underage. They found my mother's ID with his inebriated mother in another town where she had broken into a house. My mother was afraid to tell her story for fear of retribution from the Hispanic gangs in our small farming community. She passed way on Jan 24 at the age of 96, so I am telling her story. I am a second generation American - my grandparents immigrated legally to the US with "nothing" and built lives for themselves and their children by treating America as an opportunity to succeed, not as a right to take advantage of others. They followed the laws. Your "non profit" has a mission based on the laws of God. It is your responsibility to help protect the rest of us who also follow the laws of God. I will give nothing to your charity since apparently many of my tax dollars, for which I work very hard, are already finding their way into your coffers. (you have not filed a 990 since 2003 - no transparency leads one to doubt your integrity)

I am the Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters El Paso, and Lupe not only connected us with Slider Middle School but invited us to a recent Networking & Resource Fair which was exactly that, incredibly resourceful! My name is Ruben Meraz and I was diagnosed with diabetes July 2016.<br>EPDA (El Paso Diabetes Association) is a great organization dedicated to helping those individuals that have diabetes and their families as well by providing a wealth of knowledge on all facets of this disease. The classes that EPDA offers are very informative and have been extremely helpful in helping me control my glucose levels. Topics covered in the classes include what actions we can take to control our glucose levels from reading and understanding food labels, exercise, managing stress and making sure we take our prescribed meds as needed - all in an easy to understand detailed level. We also learn the impact of not following our plan to control diabetes by participating in follow-up processes to ensure we are making use of the information provided.<br>I am very thankful for all that I have learned from the EPDA that has made it possible for me to manage my glucose levels. Additionally, participating in the support group meetings as well as completing the EPDA cooking classes and being part of the EPDA Events has given me an understanding of what I am up against and how to overcome it. This is knowledge that I now wish I had when my father and grandfather were diagnosed with diabetes. <br>Thank you again for the education you have provided that has helped me manage this disease.

Why I Give to Casas por Cristo (CasasporCristo.org)<br><br>In 2003, my church asked my husband and I to accompany them to Juarez, Mexico to build with Casas por Cristo. They needed our translating skills. I had no idea what to expect, but it was summer...we had time to kill. <br><br>I didn't sleep much the first night. I was afraid that we would be hijacked by bandits. I was afraid that the church where we were staying would be broken into by criminals seeking Gringos to kidnap for a high ransom. Then, as we crossed the border, I became even more nervous. The landscape was dotted by the ruins of old stucco houses, broken down cars, stray dogs, and trash. I was shocked. <br><br>Then, as the days passed, I began to see the beauty. We were building a house for a family living in a shack made with shipping pallets. They didn't have much, but they tried to share everything with us. The two little boys in the family showed us the baby rabbits that they had rescued from a dog, and I was touched that they would be so tender and caring. The family was friendly and smiling, and we truly enjoyed working with them. <br><br>In 4 days the house was done, and we dedicated it to God and rejoiced in the miracle of having withstood the 100 plus degree heat to build it. There was not a dry eye as we passed the keys over the the new owners, and I realized that I might have benefited even more from the experience than they had. <br><br>Since then, we have donated our money and time to Casas, traveling to build once or twice a month. This charity is the hands and feet of Christ reaching around the world, and I am proud and blessed to be a part of it.

Not only a jewel in the El Paso community but also a necessity. The El Paso County historical Society and staff i've always been very helpful and need to be supported.

This Wiccan/Pagan church does good works throughout the community. I have observed that they do what they can to house and feed the Homeless and Veterans. They rescue all sorts of animals and teach others how to live in harmony with nature by recycling, gardening and picking up trash all over the city. They have lectured at UTEP and around the city, done television interviews on their faith and have an outreach program for Parolees. This is what spiritual people SHOULD be doing but so many who profess a faith do not. I donate regularly to their various programs and hope others will, too.

This organization helped my family with a lot of things. We did a couple of activities here for the benefit of my girls and my family as well. Even if the situation comes when you don't have a ride to attend a class, they go and pick you up! Not a lot of places go this above and beyond to help people out. My little girls still have a box of toys that were provided by the center and some that we made there even. They also provide help with child care if you need it. My wife and I definitely try to donate and participate in organizations such as this because we appreciate places that offer this type of help to families. Thank you, from our family!

I remember growing up attending this place and having lots of fun here passing the time with my friends. Whether going there to play basketball with some friends or just hanging out. It is nice to know that places like this were around to keep kids off the streets and away from the gang life or any other kind of trouble. Though I know that the center has gotten some bad limelight, I also know that that is not involving the kids. We as kids, used the center for what it was for, and I know that I am not the only one that wants to give a long over due thanks to you guys. Again, thank you and hopefully you guys get another opportunity to help out our youth.

This is actually for the YWCA on Mesa street but I could not find it so I figured maybe since it is the same name they cover all YWCAs in El Paso. I really love this place and so does my family. We used to go routinely here before our last baby came along and the kids really enjoyed the pool and even the daycare. The staff here is extremely helpful and friendly. The lady in daycare really bonded with our kids and helped ease them into being with someone else and not us and made the transition that much easier. Same with the staff at the gym and the boot camp classes. Thank you for everything guys.

Thank you to the El Paso Zoo for all the memories made. Over the years the many improvements made here have really beautified and attracted the community a lot more, and that's something you don't see a lot here. Thank you guys for still being here and encouraging the community to keep coming by adding more and more to your establishment.

I got our family's first pet here (Jayden, Pitbull/Dalmatian mix). Kids really loved it and he was extremely loving and grateful to be with us. I never regret getting the little guy and would definitely get another pet here. Even though Pitbulls have a bad reputation, the little guy never hurt our kids and I would definitely consider a Pit again.

Really appreciate Goodwill centers. To be honest I was there for court ordered community service but I feel that I was not judged and was treated fairly. Plus when I was younger I remember doing some shopping there so that is what helped in the decision of volunteering here. Thank you to everyone who was there at the time I was and everyone who still continues to help now.

NAMI El Paso offers classes for those personally affected and for the family members and loved ones of those with mental illnesses. These classes are invaluable to the family and to the consumer. You will learn coping skills, problem, solving techniques, and information about the various mental illnesses, medications and advocacy. <br> <br>All classes, support groups, training, and materials are free of charge. <br> <br>Classes are offered in English and Spanish. <br> <br>Our classes and support groups are taught by family members who have previously taken the class and trained to become teachers.

I have recently gone into International AIDS Empowerment, and have had a very pleasant experience. <br> <br>I was assisted by a Case Manager named LX Vasquez (that's what his business card reads). I have been out of care for almost a year. This guy asked me questions as he typed away on his computer. I had never been treated like a human being when it had to do with my HIV. This guy picked up the phone, called like different places and gave me referrals with appointment dates and times. <br>He never judged me, he understood me, and he encouraged me to volunteer and come to the support groups that they have. He told me to come and visit them when I was feeling depressed, or just needed to get away. Not once did he tell me to make an appointment with him or that I would ever need one. <br>I didn't qualify for any of their financial assistance programs because I do well with the income that I receive, but he congratulated me. He mad me feel important. He even placed me on a waiting list, for the future. He told me that when he called me he would reevaluate my case, and if I didn't need it he would place me back on the waiting list. He said, you never know what life may bring, we need to have someone or something to fall back on. <br>Thank you IAE for your help, and thanks to LX Vasquez, I am now in care at La Fe. Amy told me that LX (I found out is Alex), that he called to make sure that I went to my appointment. <br>I hope you all can experience International, the way that I did. I have been so blessed to have the privlege to help someone in need. This organization serve it better than anything.

Well My Name Is Amaris Chaparro im bearly 16 years old going to 17 and yes its true iv'e rather spend my afternoons helping others than just messing around watching tv or unimportant stuff. Well My experience has been wonderful, seeing those kids actually happy aside from what their home situations might be is something out of this world. So Every tuesday and thursdsay i march my was down to the center to find a good amount of kids attending. Accompanied by 3 other ladies we take care of them while their moms are at center meetings. Everyother week we have bears, where another group of volunteers read to them. Aside from that we do crafts with them. Laura my leader ha kind of what i consider my "boss" makes everything organized and tries making the crafts as educational as possible so the kids have fun while learning. Also she strongly disagrees with any form of violence and strong words. She tells kids about right and wrongs. As for kids who are acting up, she simply has a conversation with them explaing why it was wrong hitting that little boy or girl or why their actions where not appropiate. Its an awesome experience! :D I love it, and iv'e comed to really enjoy my afternoons there. The Kids have are really cute and well they seem to be having fun.

This is one of the most well organized, professional and truly effective nonprofits I have ever had the pleasure of consulting with. They have a broad community reach and do their homework when it comes to due diligence toward grantees, board members, vendors and professional partnerships. Their output is always of the highest quality and they are appreciated widely, both by regional leaders for their professionalism as well as city residents for their compassion and resources.

I began volunteering for S.T.A.R.S. of El Paso, TX in March 2008. This is an amazing organization!! As volunteers, we are taught about myths associated with sexual assaults and their victims or perpetrators and how to provide crisis intervention to victims. It is so unfortunate that many victims are afraid to come forward due to retaliation, shame, or general fear of the outcome of their outcry. So many victims believe they are at fault, when in actuality, we as volunteers learn that no one asks to be raped or hurt in any other way. As volunteers, we respond to the hospital when a reported sexual assault comes in at any hour of the day or night! We provide crisis intervention, and give victims information about our services, which include free counseling services to victims of sexual assault and any "secondary victims" such as friends and family of that victim and educate them about sexual assault and resources that are available to them in the community (such as the crime victims compensation act). We also stay with them at the hospital, answering any questions they may have about the procedures of the hospital or our organization. Ultimately, we are there to provide support and comfort to our victim, and offer them a chance to repair their mental health through counseling. Our volunteers undergo 40 hours of training and are asked to dedicate 1 year of volunteering to the program. The staff at S.T.A.R.S. are dedicated to reaching out to the community and also provide sensitivity training to local police, and if the victim decides to press charges, the staff will guide them through the legal system, as many victims will drop charges due to the intense pressure or stress of such an ordeal. They also educate the community about sexual assault and the services available. Since sexual assault is such a "touchy" subject, I am proud to be a volunteer and offer the support and guidance that many victims need at such a fragile time. Recently, funding for the facility has been less than in previous years, but the dedication of the volunteers and staff have kept this organization alive! I hope that we can find new ways to fund this non-profit so we may provide more for our community! We, as volunteers, are always reminded by the staff at S.T.A.R.S. that we are appreciated, be it with a card of appreciation in the mail or email. I believe this organization deserves recognition, because so much is still unknown about the human mind and how fragile and amazing it can be. We need to bring awareness to counseling and its benefits for better mental health!
