Oak Lawn Nonprofits and Charities

Park Lawn has been a part of my family since the early 1970’s. My sister Linda, born with Down Syndrome, began her school years there, at 2 1/2 years old. She received a wonderful education in a time where many thought to send these kids away. They were labeled uneducable, even by the medical profession. <br>Linda eventually became a part of the workshop employment crew, and moved into one of PL’s residential facilities (her choice). <br>Unfortunately, Linda’s health led her to pass at the age of 29. She was surrounded by her PL family those last hours. Singing her favorite Christmas songs in October. <br>It has been 18 years since Linda’s passing. PL is still a part of my family. I currently work in their Development Office (Linda’s first classroom). My family continues to support financially and with events.<br>It’s just hard to walk away from a place that has a piece of our hearts.<br>My wish for PL’s future would be, for ALL to feel the heart and see the good work this organization has provided for so many over the past 63 years. Also, hopes that it will continue for many more. <br>Park Lawn is a Wonderful Charity to support... Although, I’m a little biased.<br>

Tried to give them a grant from our family foundation after reading about them in the Huffington Post. The woman I spoke with was receptive, but then they changed their tone and actually got really nasty. I've never experienced someone in the non-profit world being so rude and still requesting a donation. There are literally millions of non-profits, pick another one to help Syria.

Such a very beneficial program to address the needs of our most overlooked generation in the dental field, the aging. Of course it is important to begin this education with our youth, but there are so many changing factors, that we need to educate and inform the aging population of the importance their oral health plays in their overall health.

As an educator in Oak Lawn, I feel that the Children&rsquo;s Museum has greatly enhanced our community's emphasis on learning and exploration. The environment at the museum is very welcoming and engaging. I highly recommend a visit!

My name is G. Smith. I came to Metamorphosis 7-10-03, already having 8 months clean. Within this atmosphere of trust, recovery, and friendship,I found recovery. I now have over 5 years here clean and sober, over 6 overall. The leadership, is strong and down to earth, always keeping recovery first. This organization takes people that most of society have no use for, indeed, are in a very bad place in their life and need a break. Metamorphosis gives them everything that they need to get back on track to either rebuild or start a new life. They take them in from off the street literally, from the street, carrying their belongings in bags. Sometimes their state of health, or lack of health, can be told just by looking at them.The people who come here are disadvantaged, low income, sometimes pregnant, on parole, or, probation looking for a chance. This place is first and formost a recovery program for those who want to start a new life, but also this is that chance. Here they can build a life. One of recovery, sanity, healthy interaction with peers, a quality life, one worth living. This place is not funded by any outside agency or anybody at all. It is consiantly hampered by budget constraints. We are allways on the lookout for donations which are tax deductable. I know because I serve as House Mgr.at the intake house. There have been several clients that have gone on as an ongoing sucess storys. I am proud to have had the chance to have been here, at this time, with this organization that does so much for others without praise or reward or pay/salery.
