Amazing team members! Super friendly staff! The energy in this place is beyond great! Love volunteering so much!
Amazing mission and provides so many incredible opportunities for the youth of Los Angeles. APCH not only supports successful futures, but it also supports day to day needs, such as food, safety, and mentoring. There should be more funding for programs like this.
Awesome mission and welcoming staff. Thank you for letting us contribute and take part with your organization!
We helped do some organizing and decorating for the holidays. A Place Called Home is doing amazing work and were so hospitable to our group. I’m happy to have helped them out and look forward to supporting their cause in the future.
A place called home is by far one of my favorite nonprofits to volunteer at. Today I was apart of an event known as adopt a family. Families have gone through the process to join and at times, have to join a waiting list to do the impact of so many families in need. I was fortunate enough to have had the pleasure of greeting all 129 families today. Truly such a heartwarming feeling! This event was well organized, staff was so welcoming and very friendly. Ana, staff member was expectionally friendly. Truly going out of her way to make sure all volunteers, donors and staff were feeling good and had all they needed to participate. If you’re ever looking to volunteer or donate in anyway possible, please consider the organization. The staff truly make you feel comfortable, welcoming just like a family.
Even before I started working for this great company it still amazes me what a positive impact they have on the community with no advertising simply word of mouth is what gets our members here.
I'm grateful for A Place Called Home's commitment to youth and families in our South Central community.
I love that I can bring my kids. I also like how it's very organized and that we can come together as a family.
APCH is an amazing non profit! They have a myriad of programs designed to help kids succeed. It's even cooler that they have college flags from all of their alumni around the halls that motivate the kids.
Being apart of their mentor program I have been able to work with a young man who has shown so much growth and taught me so much in the process .
This is the type of non profit that needs to have a base in every major and minor city, I look forward to continuing to work with them. They've even helped motivate my plans to have an event for youth myself.
I started as a teachers aide for the after school/homework program over 5 years ago. Not too long after that I was approached and asked to be a mentor to a younger student who was struggling in his work, in his community, and in his home. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life, as I now witness my mentee transfer from a 2 year community college program (with great pride!) to his Bachelors program at Cal State San Francisco! So very proud to be a part of his legacy-a legacy built between a unique partnership known as A Place Called Home and the Los Angeles community.
This is one o f the BEST organizations I've participated in. In my lifetime the is one of the things I'm most proud of. My wife suggested I give back and I was told about A PLACE CALLED HOME. I've been mentor for over 3 years and the rewards continue to come.
HI! My name is Kristen I work as a mentor at APCH and I love it! This is my first go at being a mentor and APCH has been the perfect place to explore this role. I have been wanting to get involved in the community more especially with youth. As a musician myself I was struck by the program and the plethora of resources it gave their youth for creative outlets. The staff at APCH are so incredibly nurturing and helpful and always available for questions. The group outings they make avaiable for us mentors and our youth is incredible from sporting events to concerts they really allow their kids to experience the city. The mentoring program gives such a positive and supportive enviornment for youth so they have place other than home and school to find out who they are. My young lady is so incredibly smart, kind and talented and I would not have found her and found such a wonderful bond if it weren't for the mentoring program at APCH.
These guys have been fantastic to work with, I really believe they have the best intentions and all my experiences with them have been genuine and positive. Their team has always been very friendly and the events I have attended with my mentee have been fun and invigorating.
I am currently a mentor at APCH, they truly care about the mentor and mentee relationship. They help facilitate meaningful events where you can connect with your mentee and they are also very responsive to inquiries. I sincerely enjoy spending time with my mentee and the wonderful people who make APCH posisble.
Such a great organization that puts all of its effort in ensuring youth get the adequate resources necessary to excel in life. I am touched by all that the staff does to support their members in every way they can. Great place for youth to grow academically, personally, and professionally!
One of my favorite places!, You do so much for the community! THANK YOU!
It was amazing volunteering and hope everyone else do this as well! Thank you APCH for all you do!
We have a great time helping out. Your organization is awesome! What a great place to volunteer for such a great organization!
It was my first time here and I really enjoyed my time serving the families. Keep up the good work !
It was great working in a team and helping the organization set things up. I helped combine cutleries and tie them together. It was a wonderful experience. What the organization is doing is really great. I like how you keep things very organized and clean. Thank you for the experience.
Very happy to volunteer here today. It’s a wonderful experience and a truly fantastic event. It really does feel like home here
I came to A Place Called Home to volunteer for their Thanksgiving dinner set up and I am so impressed by the staff and facilities here. I knew the organization did wonderful work in the community but you realize why they are so successful when you come to volunteer in person. I urge everyone to volunteer in person and to donate!
Very powerful full service support provider to the community surrounding it. A model example of when a non profit has immediate and direct impact on the community it serves in an immensely profound way. Volunteering here is a joy. The positive energy of the place exudes from all around you and you are welcomed and appreciated from the moment you arrive.
A close friend of mine invited me to volunteer at a place called home. And it was an awesome place. Friendly people and great facility
Great organization that helps the community. A wonderful place to take time and offer community service. Volunteered for a thanksgiving dinner and would definitely do it again!
This operation looks like it is really helping the local community with a diverse set of resources, not just providing handouts, but a real way to address the needs of the individual.
A place called home is a great place that has different opportunities for the children in the community. They have basketball courts, a dance studio, and an indoor space. The staff here is very nice, helpful, and caring.
Very dedicated and empathetic staff. The kids are taught to be kind and are well spoken. This organization is dedicated to serving their community and I only wish there were 100 others like it
Amazing experience at A Place Called Home!
The staff and the professional vision from all leaders is remarkable serving the community.
Great place to volunteer! This organization does wonderful work for the community. Keep up the great work!
Thank you APCH for all you do for your community. Truly amazing to be able to help, even if it’s in just a very small way
I love volunteering at A Place called Home. APCH has a unique ability to be able to target the needs in South Central. From the Cinderella Project to The thanksgiving day every single event is flawless and so special to be a part of it. The people that work here are full of heart and have a love for the community and their members that is contagious.
My experience at A Place Called Home has been transformative, my only regret has been not coming to the center sooner. My involvement began with the mentorship program where I was paired up with a wonderful teenage mentee, it soon progressed to participating in the Scholarship committee where I helped to interview potential applicants, to my more recent involved in the Leadership Council, which does fundraising. Needless to say, I couldn't help but become more involved the more I learned about center and its good works. This organization is a beacon to all the kids in South L.A. it serves. The energy and resources put into it has created an environment conducive to helping the kids not only meet their potential but break through perceived and real barriers. The pictures and videos don't do justice to this place, you have to experience it in person. I couldn't be happier or more fulfilled with my involvement here, I look forward to my continued involvement over the years.
Last year, I went to the Home for the Holidays event and it was so wonderful to see my kid's smile as they played in the snow (which they have never seen before). A Place Called Home does a beautiful thing for the community and it warms my heart that every year the agency seems to offer more fun and open activities for the community. This year, I also went to the Comic Event, wow!!! Thank you APCH for the free books and bringing all those artists to this community. Honestly, if it wasn't for APCH my kids would not be able to experience these types of events. I am a single mother of 3 and funds are tight, so any opportunity that helps my kids be part of something productive and positive is a blessing!! Thank you to all those wonderful staff members and volunteers. We appreciate you!!
A Place Called Home is an amazing nonprofit organization that helps kids to achieve there dreams and support. By entering A Place Called Home you can tell the people who work there love helping the kids and want them to achieve in life.
A Place Called Home is an amazing nonprofit. They collaborate with my university; California State University Northridge and let us as a class assist them. They asked my class to help them but in all honesty they are the ones helping us. Their vision for the kids of Los Angeles is special. With all their mentoring, tutoring, SAT prep, arts and athletics etc. kids can’t help but feel welcomed and empowered. It’s a transformative process that changes anyone’s life who is apart of it. I’m just so glad I’m able to help them spread there passion onto social media outlets. It’s an honor and a blessing.
My name is Yesenia Verde I have volunteered for this great organization. That day just to see how happy the girls were to receive their dresses made me happy. I also have learned about all the activities they have their for the youth. I am happy they have a nice place to go to learn and get inspired to continue their education. I will encourage everyone to help in anyway that you can so this organization could continue to help our children and teens. Together we could make a difference. Great Job!!!
The work that this non-profit does is truly changing the community for the better! In the chances that I've had to work with them, I've been very moved by their commitment to the kids in the area and beyond.
I have been volunteering at A Place Called Home since February 22, 2018. I currently also have my 11 year old sister Neida at A Place Called Home. Since the day I started to volunteer i got to meet many great children and staff. Originally when I started it was because of two reasons. One was for my little sister she was new and fairly shy. The second was because since I was little APCH had been around for a long time I always wanted to go but I never could because i went to school too far. So when Neida told me she wanted to join we did research. APCH gives children so many opportunities they get them off the streets of south central, where many of the people I grew up with fell into a bad road. They get these children off away from the streets into a safe haven where they get fed healthy home cooked meals. Where they can fun and be themselves, they get help with school work. There at APCH these children explore many many subjects that most kids can't access in a normal life setting. Children can explore music like learning how to play the piano, guitar, violin, ukulele, flute, drums and more. How to code through digital media or take photographs, make beautiful art work in the art studio. Learn about the community we live in the world we wake up to every day. There are so many many more classes than just those. APCH even has classes where kids can learn about themselves like Girl Power and Journey. All of these and many more classes are available to these wonderful youth. I can truly say with all my heart and soul. That A Place Called Home is a wonderful program an opportunity every child can have and should have. It's a place full of staff with much love, care, and nurture for the children who will all one day rule the world in each day of their lives. Although I may just be an Art studio volunteer I can say I myself have learned to have the respect for life and all around me. The empathy for those who I may come across, the accountability of any action I make. The courage to step out my shell away from the shyness I once had. But most of all that no matter what is happening today out in the world out in the country in our very own neighborhoods. That I will always have hope, hope that these kids take every chance every opportunity that comes their way, every fall, every rise, that they will one day turn the tides of event in their favors. In the end A Place Called Home is not only a program but a sanctuary where a child can be free to be who they are explore what they love. A place for not only students but families to come seek help be it clothes, food, supplies and more. In my eyes A Place Called Home is literally a place Neida and I can call home. It's a second family and friends that she has, a bond that both her and I will hold to a place we can always look back to and remember every memory made and to yet be made.
My son has been attending A place Called Home for 4 years. This place is amazing they have taken my son camping and he does sports here. They also help them with school. They provide healthy meals and wonderful experiences. A helping hand to all those working parents. Truly making a difference.
A Place Called Home provides life changing and magical experiences for the children of Los Angeles. They are our heroes!
We had the pleasure of adopting a family for Christmas. Instead of buying gifts for each other my entire immediate family agreed on donating to a better cause, making a family in need happy. So to anyone reading this message next time you are purchasing something, please ask yourself if you need it or want it.
Adopt a family!
it was a fantastic experience helping and giving is what the world needs. To bring a smile to someones face is what I call this organization. It was an all around wonderful time. keep up the great work
Great experience. Good to help others in need. Would like to do it again
Amazing experience!! Everyone was super positive and helpful. We all had a great time handing out Thanksgiving dinners!! Very thankful that A Place Called Home helps so many people. We look forward to helping out as much as we can in the future!
This experience made me really appreciate the things I have, and the things I will receive in the future. This experience also made me realize that I'm am blessed to be living the life i'm living, because there's so many people who's lives are way tougher than mine.
I had a great time at A Place Called Home. The atmosphere was energetic and uplifting, and I felt honored to be a part of something like it. We fed the community for thanksgiving, and it was an amazing experience.
Helping the less fortunate people was great and I loved giving out bag. Seeing a smile on their face brought me joy and I was glad I was able to be apart of this.
The experience was very fun and was very good. It felt good to give back to the community. It also felt good helping people who needed it. I think that this organization is very good and people are very thankful for the things that they do.
Great charity! They have given out plenty of food and have made a great impact on our community!
I think that the experience was really good for our group. It was good to help the community and see the difference in poverty around my city. I think that the people running the event could've done more. Many of them were standing around and on their phone, while us, volunteers, were working hard.
