Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Autism, Disabilities, Health

Mission: The goal of ASDF is to support children with an autism spectrum disorder by providing information, education and financial assistance to their families and relevant community service organizations. Funds donated to ASDF will be used to address any and all kinds of issues in assisting children with autism and their families. By providing financial assistance to families and autism-specific organizations, together we are able to give autistic children and their families the resources they need to grow.

Programs: The foundation educates the public about autism; provides families with tools and educational materials to assist in the early detection of autism as well as tools to treat children suffering from autism; and provides families of people suffering from autism with information on programs available to assist them. The foundation provides financial assistance to the families and relevant community service organizations that help people suffering from autism. In the past 8 years, ASDF has provided financial assistance to approximately 2,740 families who have children on the autism spectrum. The financial assistance went for camp scholarships, swimming lessons, horse therapy lessons, iPads, gift cards, etc. During the same period of time, we provided autism awareness information to approximately 3,178,000 new mothers across the United States through our autism awareness program. Through our 2018 iPads for Kids Programs, we were able to send 103 iPads to children who are nonverbal. Our 2018 Holiday Gift Card Program provided 319 gift cards from Walmart and Target to families who needed assistance.

I tried to get a ipad for my autistic son. But I was to late for it so instead they sent me a Walmart gift card for 100$ . I took that card and got my son a water table cuz its summer time. And also was able to get alittle food in the house. Witch was also a big help. As im a low income family every little bit counts. So id like to thank all of u at autism speaks. U helped us out so much. And I also helped them out as I started a fundraiser for my sons 2nd birthday. Total amount was 200$ but only could come up w 170$ but its still something. So thank you all.

The Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation has been incredibly helpful in providing funding to cover my 4 year old's private swim lessons! I have been so worried about how to teach my Autistic son to swim, I thought it would never happen until I reached out to the foundation! They were so nice, and the entire process was simple! I wish to thank them as well as the donors involved, if it wasn't for the compassion of others, many people like myself would find very few options! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

My son is 10 years old recently diagnosed high functioning on the spectrum alongside combined ADHD presentation. He experiences a gap between his high abilities and his deficits. Up until 3rd grade, he achieved fairly well academically (with a lot of home support) despite cognitive learning differences. His high sensory/sensitivities, delayed balance, gross motor skill and spatial coordination, and impulsivity are the source of his social challenges.

While in water (as a form of “aqua therapy" ), he has always experienced tremendous relief for his condition relieving anxiety, expending pent up energy and ameliorating sleep/wake cycle/disturbances. In addition, his physician prescribed swimming as part of his treatment program. Since an infant, being in water – whether the pool or bath – noticeably improves his quality of life. Knowing this, I reached out to ASDF for a scholarship in sending him to a summer swim program while our insurance provider continued to delay providing for a medically-prescribed activity. We are extremely grateful for ASDF’s support. Mr. Slutsky was incredibly responsive, and my son began his swim program immediately. He is already thriving within the first two weeks of participating under the guidance of trained/certified coaches who have become a part of the solution to a better quality of life. Providing for programs that positively impact the lives of children on the spectrum is incredibly important, and can become very challenging to locate and secure. With their support, ASDF turned a challenging situation into a solution, immediately improving the quality of life for my son. ASDF has made a huge difference, and we are extremely grateful to be able to move forward with their support.

Our son is almost 14 years old and is diagnosed with high functioning autism. We reached out to ASDF to ask
for help to send him to summer camp. The program we found is amazing and due to the generosity of ASDF, our son
will have a fun summer experience. The expense of summer programming for kids on the spectrum is usually high and we rely on scholarships and help. Our son is often rigid and afraid to try new things but he is supported and encouraged to step out of his box, make new friends and try something new. He LOVES the camp and thrives over the summer engaged in things which every child should have the opportunity to experience. We are so grateful to ASDF and Mr Slutsky for making this come true for our son and our family. This agency is sensitive and responsive when many others are not. Someday I hope to be able to give back to help another child.

A special thank you for this wonderful organization and Mr. Slutsky for making this scholarship available to my family and to other families out there who live in our world. Our 7-year old son was diagnosed on the autism spectrum 2 years ago and it has been a struggle finding a camp that can meet his needs yet also meet our limited financial resources. I thank God that I stumbled across the ASDF website as there is no way we could send our son to the social skills camp we were told about by our son's occupational therapist. We appreciate you Mr. Slutsky and hope that we can return the favor in kind!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this review after he finishes camp in August!

Our family would like to say THANK YOU for your generous sponsorships for my son, Ranson to attend social skills camp in Boca Raton, Fl. It will be life changing for him!

My son is an Autistic teenager trying to find his niche' in this world. This clinician is well known and I have been wanting for several years Ranson to attend his social skills groups, but his insurance did not cover it.

These are skills that are so important to Autistic children. Learning them in a unique way is what it takes. Now my son, Ranson will have this chance.

I also appreciate the transportation scholarship as well. I am a single mother who is recovering from a serious illness.

As a family with two special needs kids and my husband out of work, the Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation swooped in to help so that my daughter can attend a special needs summer camp this year on a farm. We want to thank Mr. Slutsky for guiding us through the application process in such an expeditious manner and for answering all of our questions. We are so incredibly grateful that MyASDF was able to provide our daughter with this enriching experience. She is so excited and cannot wait for her animal assisted therapy to begin this summer! Thank you again to the Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation!

I am very grateful with this organization for helping kids to become amazing! My son went to camp last year & I know that it helped him so much to become a little bit more independent. He is very excited for camp this year and for the opportunity to make new friends and socialize in general because it is very hard for him. I would like to take a moment to thank Michael and the Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation for their help this summer with summer camp tuition for my son Noah. I am just beyond grateful because when you have a child on the spectrum their care is your number one priority and affording the proper care for them is hard. I am a single parent doing the best I can and I was really at a loss on how I would be able to afford summer camp this summer. Thank you so much for quick responses and communication. You have taken a worry off my mind. Our family thanks you from the bottoms of our hearts!

This foundation is absolutely amazing. They have enabled my son to take therapeutic horse riding lessons when he wouldn’t have been otherwise able to do so. Their application process is simple, but thorough, and they’re incredibly fast and responsive. They work with you to get what your child needs and aren’t stuck in a “no” or “this is the rule and we must follow exactly the same procedure every time” philosophy. Thank you so much!!!!
