WOMAN, Inc. is an excellent organization that helps keep women alive and safe. They helped me navigate a complex and painful time. I left my boyfriend after he seriously injured me in 2015. I was shocked, in pain, and afraid after he assaulted me. WOMAN, Inc. helped me move forward to safety and a happier future. In a world that frequently blames and shames victims of domestic violence, the people of WOMAN Inc. are consistently understanding and supportive They educated me about the nature and patterns of domestic violence, which are often not identified in the early stages as abusers are often inconsistent in their behaviors, often kind, sometimes cruel, etc. WOMAN Inc. referred me to the helpful lawyers at the non-profit Restraining Order Clinic. They also referred me to an excellent therapist with expertise in the field of domestic violence. That has been extremely valuable to me. I know now that, although domestic violence is common, many general therapists are ignorant regarding patterns of domestic violence in the early stages and characteristics of clever abusers. You want an expert therapist for these cases and they can be hard to find. WOMAN, Inc is a worthy and valuable organization. My future is bright now and I am grateful for WOMAN, Inc.'s significant assistance in my life during my very challenging times.

All, If you are looking for support, please be mindful of the fact that this is not a confidential platform and we can't offer any sort of counseling here. Folks looking for support with domestic violence issues can call our 24-hour line: 415-864-4722 (or contact their local DV organization). Thank you, WOMAN Inc.
The W.O.M.A.N., Inc Support Line is such a wonderful resource for survivors to connect with peer counseling, therapy, and legal support. I value being a WINC Support Line volunteer, and encourage others who have considered anti-domestic violence work to volunteer with this organization!
I am extremely impressed with the work that W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is accomplishing in the Bay area. An amazing organization, filled with genuine compassionate and caring individuals that are making a difference within the community.
In a field that often centers professionalization, W.O.M.A.N., Inc. embraces a return to grassroots and community based healing. So grateful for the work continuing to be done to support survivors and their loved ones as whole people with a focus on anti-racism, equity and liberation. As a volunteer and now as a staff member, being a part of this organization has been nothing short of an amazing experience. Only having been with W.O.M.A.N, Inc. for about a year, I have already learned so much. From the 40 hour domestic violence training, to taking calls on the support line and working with staff and volunteers, each experience has fostered personal growth and strengthened my love for this emotionally taxing, but gratifying field. Applying has easily been one of the best decisions I have ever made and I can’t speak more highly of this organization and the people involved. I feel so fortunate to be apart of such a vibrant, altruistic, open-minded and supportive group of advocates. Every day in my involvement with them reminds me that there really are wonderful people out there who care deeply about the world around them and the people in it.
Excellent organization. Professional staff worked at an event and provided of valuable community resources. Standing out by providing an activity for attendees. =)

I'm grateful for this organization as a friend, neighbor, Board Member, and survivor.

WOMAN Inc is a wonderful service for anyone impacted by domestic violence. I first heard of WOMAN Inc from a survivor, who found great support in this organization. As a survivor, I found the online resources comforting. I proceeded to get involved with the organization as a volunteer in various capacities, and continue to admire both the vision/mission and actual actions this organization takes to fulfill our service to the community. Bottom line: WOMAN Inc helps the community become a safer place.
The mission and work that W.O.M.A.N .,INC provides is life changing for families in the SF Bay Area. Their inclusive and diverse approach to strengthening and empowering DV survivors makes them a powerful and special organization.
I have been honored to have trained, and so far provided over 150 hours of volunteer hotline support for W.o
m.a.n.Inc. This wonderful organization provides extensive resources to survivors and their loved ones. It is very humbling to hear their stories and share the resources and provide appropriate support. A big thank you to the organization for all you do, and the lives you help improve!
I started volunteering on and off W.O.M.A.N., Inc. since 2013 and they are an amazing organization that has changed my understanding of what it means to be a person with empathy and compassion. The staff has always been thoughtful and treated volunteers with appreciation and survivors with utmost respect. I am proud of being affiliated to them!
I’ve volunteered for WOMAN INC for three years now and am so impressed by how completely dedicated the staff are to the cause and to the womxn (and all) who need support. They are always looking to build connections and improve services by working with other organizations dedicated to supporting survivors, including community clinics, shelters, and legal aid clinics. A well-run organization with a huge heart, making such an important impact on the community.
Have always had a positive experience with staff, volunteers and community. Thoughtful, caring approach in serving others.

This agency has been serving the Bay Area for longer than I have been living here; now 30 years. Always a source of hope and inspiration to help end the cycle of violence in the lives of others and in our communities.
Peer counseling with Woman Inc. was extremely helpful during the stressful time of leaving my abuser. I really felt heard and affirmed. I was also given legal, counseling, and other resources that helped me to feel much less stressed financially and emotionally. Workers there were also very welcoming of my child and watched her during some of the time I met with a peer counselor. I highly recommend this organization.
Becoming a volunteer with W.O.M.A.N. Inc was one of the best decisions i have ever made. It has been an eye opening and life changing experience. The work they do is vital to survivors. The staff and volunteers are all amazing people who truly have a passion for what they do.
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is a vital part of the greater Bay Area's domestic violence prevention services.
I received 40 hours of training through W.O.M.A.N., Inc. in the fall of 2017-- training which was generously subsidized through donations. This training has opened up a variety of opportunities with other domestic violence prevention organizations, and is also providing me with skills in peer counseling and handling the myriad responsibilities involved in working the hotline.
The employees and volunteers at W.O.M.A.N., Inc. are conscientious and enthusiastic in their approach to assisting individuals experiencing domestic violence. Their programs and services are key to many agencies and individuals who are working to address and end domestic violence.
A few years ago I had a domestic violence incident in my family. I was overwhelmed by how this whole incident was handled. It is so hard to see the reactions, how they change and then watch the survivor going back to her abuser, because there were no other realistic options and no one knew really how to deal with this.
I felt helpless and I decided I want to understand domestic violence and how to help survivors. WOMAN INC was the place I finally got to learn, know more and actually do my best to offer some support to any person facing domestic violence and any type of abuse.
Doing this doesn't mean you can fix or change anything, doing this means, you can be there, you listen and you don't judge. You help a person navigate both their feelings and their options, so that they can get their life back. This experience is empowering while respecting everybody's story and individuality.
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. never ceases to amaze me with their never ending love, dedication, & drive to support those affected by domestic violence. Their authenticity and genuinity are one of the many reasons why I remain a volunteer for the last 7 years. They’re a welcoming group that’s completely survivor focused, meeting every individual they encounter with where they’re at. They’re an amazing organization that’s truly making an impact in the community!

I have been a volunteer with W.O.M.A.N., Inc. for the past six years and I can attest to the truly amazing work and impact they're making in the San Francisco/greater Bay Area communities. This organization always goes out of its way to meet survivors with where they're at in their journey, and I appreciate how they take initiative in not only helping survivors but educating the surrounding community in ways they can support, too. I stand with this organization because they remain true to their core mission and values, while creating a safe, welcoming space for their volunteers.
I've been volunteering with WOMAN Inc. since 2014, and I love working with this organization! The staff and volunteers are wonderful!

While I can't speak from the perspective of a survivor seeking services at WOMAN, Inc., I can speak to working at the organization! I've worked at WOMAN, Inc. for 10 years and it's a wonderful organization to work at. We place high value on meeting survivors where they're at knowing folks are at various points on their healing journey. We value centering race and anti-oppression in our work because we understand that a survivor of domestic violence isn't only a survivor of dv but someone who is navigating many other barriers. We understand that if you are a woman of color, specifically a Black woman access to services is much more difficult which is why we continue to do the work of interrupting habits of white supremacy.
In terms of working there, there is an investment of staff development. We have a full time staff of six and 5 of the 6 started as volunteers at WOMAN, Inc. We value collective care and holding each other and the organization accountability for our practices of care. It's fun working there too! If you don't have a sense of humor it may not be a good fit as a staff person.
P.S. Hey Great Nonprofits, can you translate your website to Spanish so many of our clients have an opportunity to leave a comment if they wanted to. Thanks

While it would be great to read more stories from survivors and their loved ones I can speak to what it's like to work at W.O.M.A.N., Inc. (WI). Over the past several years WI has created a culture where we try to make sure all voices are heard. It's important that we're treating survivors with the utmost respect, it's also important that that level of respect and acknowledgement is mirrored with volunteers who dedicate their time and with staff. With a shared decision-making leadership model all staff is encouraged to bring their experience, their strengths, and their knowledge to the table. I feel that is what makes WI a great place to work.
I also really like that given that racism, racial justice, systemic racism is in the spotlight right now there is a level of awareness and work that we as an organization AND as individuals need to work on. There is intentional space given to discussion about how WI as an organization can fight racial inequity especially with the Black community....and do the same for us as individuals.
It's a good organization to work for.
W.O.M.A.N. Inc. is such a positive organization in the San Francisco and Mission community. They connect with over 7,000 callers each year. The staff is the most compassionate and caring, resourceful, and knowledgeable about DV support. Some of the support they provide are education, community outreach, training, drop-in support, and therapy for survivors and their families. They support a very diverse community that are welcoming of all people regardless of sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, and color.
They offer a Latinx program that provides community outreach and education. They work closely with the Domestic Violence Information & Referral Center (DVIRC) to help their clients connect to other organizations for additional needs like shelters, financial, and legal support.
Everyone that works or volunteers at the organization is caring, compassionate and well respected in the DV community.

I started volunteering with W.O.M.A.N., Inc. when I was in college and have recently returned to the organization now that I live in the Bay Area again. The volunteer training is very comprehensive and helped to teach me so much about domestic violence that I have since used in other roles. All the staff and other volunteers whom I have met are fantastic and truly dedicated to helping to end domestic violence in our community and helping survivors.
I recently registered for their volunteer program and was accepted. Started my training this week and am so excited and a little nervous about this journey. I am blessed to be able to give back to such an awesome organization and more importantly support the awareness of a critical cause!!

I learned a lot going through their training to be able to volunteer on their hotline and I continue to be humbled and grateful for the experiences they have offered me and the extraordinarily evolved politics and support they provide for those affected by domestic violence.
Becoming a volunteer at W.O.M.A.N. Inc., has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The 40- volunteer training was eye-opening and empowering. This organization has widened my social lens and empowered me to support not only survivors of domestic violence, but all marginalized groups who suffer from the systematic oppressions that plague our country. I’m proud to be part of an organization that addresses domestic violence and ALL its intersections.
From a message of inclusion, to an empathic understanding in serving the community, W.O.M.A.N. Inc. collaborates and empowers.
I have consulted, worked and volunteered for many non-profits across the world. I still go back to WOMAN INC. as a model of how to create bold change, more equity, love, and kindness. W.O.M.A.N. Inc. is an absolute YES organization to support!
What makes this organization special is not only what they do and provide for women but the people who volunteer are just as amazing. When you learn about their stories you will learn that some were also a survivor and that's powerful on its own. They used the support women inc. has to offer and it helped them and now they are out there helping others...this is why I support this organization because it's 'Poweful'.
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is a wonderful organization that offers services to those in need throughout the Bay Area. The staff and volunteers work 24/7 to ensure someone is available to help at all times. Their work is indispensable.
WOMAN, Inc is an incredible organization, and we need several more like it. With compassionate training and multiple available services, WOMAN, Inc. strives to support survivors of domestic violence and vulnerable populations. I love volunteering for WOMAN, Inc!!
I am fortunate enough to say that I have been involved with this organization and these incredible people for the past 8 years!!! WOMAN Inc. is filled with committed and passionate staff and volunteers; each person bringing a sense of individuality that makes this group so dynamic. Over the years the services we have been able to provide have grown, of course with the support of donors & funding but largely due to the hard work of a committed team!
The clients we are able to serve are really what bring us together. They are strong and powerful and eager to move on, they keep us on our toes and provide perspective on good or bad days. Together with our clients, the incredibly real staff and enthusiastic volunteers it doesn't matter your background or where you came from, you will leave feeling more happy and hopeful than when you came in!
W.O.M.A.N. , Inc. is dedicated to assisting all women who have experienced domestic violence. Their supportive staff ensures that women of the Bay Area are able to access resources they need to leave abusive situations and flourish in the community as they move forward.
I love WOMAN, Inc. and I'll be forever grateful that they were there for me at the lowest point of my life. I was leaving an abusive 8-year relationship and my former partner was stalking me. I was so isolated, alone, ashamed and afraid. I went to WOMAN, Inc. for help in getting a restraining order. I will never forget the compassionate woman who listened to me, validated my experiences, and helped me understand just how abusive my relationship had been. They prepared the legal papers and went to court with me. They gave me a voice and I felt so empowered by being able to put my truth on record after years of being shouted down. It's been 15 years and I've since recovered from my abusive childhood and that relationship, but I still look back at that first day at WOMAN, Inc. as my first day of healing. Thank you.
I discovered WOMAN, Inc. about 5 years ago when I was spiralling from anxiety, depression and what I came to learn, PTSD, after leaving an abusive relationship. At the time I was unemployed and my anxiety, fear, distrust, insecurity and low-self-confidence was giving me little hope for my future. I could barely eat and take care of my dog. WOMAN, Inc. was accommodating and helpful immediately. I was able to see a counselor right away, and her gentle, yet constructive guidance helped pull me out of one of the darkest places I've ever been. I started to find hope, courage and strength. I learned to recognize red flags and trust my intuition about people and relationships. It was a lighthouse for me that helped guide me to be a stronger woman, when I was lost, considering suicide and self-medicating with wine and anti-anxiety medications. Now I can happily say that I've walked away from abusive and toxic people without hesitation, because of the tools and confidence that I gained. By the time I ended my sessions after a year at WOMAN, Inc., I had a new job and was back on my feet. Today I am extremely successful in my career, and I love my life. I am confident and armed with a foundation that will guide me throughout my life. I have referred women to this organization with total faith that they will also gain back their hope and strength. I don't know what would have happened if WOMAN, Inc. was not there when I needed help. I'm so grateful, because today my world is amazing.
Wonderful and incredibly supportive organization. Very well run! They pass their expertise on to sister organizations. They spread the love!
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. offers cutting edge services to people affected by domestic violence in a multicultural, multilingual environment. I've been part of the agency for over five years and I admire its community of dedicated volunteers, strong participants, innovative leadership team, and motivated board members. WINC is committed to the empowerment of survivors, and to do so, it offers not only crisis intervention services but also workshops, groups, and the space for them to create what they want and need.
It's a wonderful agency!
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. has honestly given so much to my life both personally and professionally. So much gratitude & admiration for the love & dedication the entire team puts into the work they do every day.
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is a safe space both both survivors of violence and their support system. They are committed to growing with the anti-violence movment and challenging themselves to be reflective and proactive instead of reactionary. What I learned while working there still helps me improve today.
I have been volunteering with W.O.M.A.N. Inc for about two years now, and it has been a great experience! The staff is incredibly supportive and I have learned so much from them!
Woman Inc is amazing as they are as passionate as they are caring to helping survivors of DV. Highly recommend their services. The staff and volunteers go above and beyond!
I have seen many positive feedbacks about WOMAN Inc.,who provides amazing services to help create change in the lives to make abuse non existent.
I worked closely with WOMAN Inc. when our company held a domestic violence awareness campaign and introduced a DV workplace policy. Jill Zawisza and her team are amazing. Knowledgeable, compassionate, thought leaders, and wonderful partners. I highly recommend WOMAN Inc.
In addition to the collaborative partnering with other agencies, WOMAN Inc. lives its own change in the world with collaborative, peer level services and community cultural values. Keep up the Change!
Becoming a volunteer at WI 2 1/2 years ago is one of the most positive things that has happened to me. I had intended on volunteering temporarily to fulfill a school requirement and was offered the opportunity to participate in the 40hr training to become a long-term volunteer. The staff and volunteers are amazing, and I've never been in an environment as supportive as the WI office!
W.O.M.A.N. Inc is AMAZING! I started out with them as a volunteer in 2011 and have moved to a staff position. My experience with them has been nothing but wonderful. I have always felt welcomed and through out my years here have learned so much from staff, volunteers, and clients. It really does take a whole community of people to make a difference and W.O.M.A.N. Inc. embodies that!

W.O.M.A.N., Inc. recognizes that domestic violence is a community issue and community healing is a powerful thing. The organization is currently creating an organizational culture where advocates act as facilitators and we're collaborating with participants by learning how they heal and we're providing them with tools and leadership skills so they can take it back to their communities. I love that W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is working towards adapting a social justice framework and is being intentional about making sure diverse voices are at the table, specifically people of color.
I am so happy to be a volunteer with Woman inc. The team is super dedictated, organized and committed its community and the population. W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is a super progressive agency. The staff and volunteers excellent advocacy for those who are fleeing from violence.
WOMAN INC has a different approach that involves their clients into the design of their programming. It's a pretty inspiring way to do the end of ending violence and seeing survivors as whole people.
I love being a part of an organization who's values reflect mine. I've been a part of W.O.M.A.N., Inc, for a little over three years but have had an connection to them for longer. I started off as a volunteer and loved every minute of it. The energy in the agency is great and there's always room from growth both personally and professionally. I love how W.O.M.A.N., Inc. has evolved in offering services to anyone impacted by domestic violence along with offering a lot of community education and support. I always look forward to being in the office with the great group of advocates!
As an adult trying to give back to my community, I was researching oragnizations to become involved with, I was impressed by W.O.M.A.N, Inc's dedication to helping everyone connected to domestic violence... whether woman, man, or supporter of a person experiencing domestic violence. The 24-hour, 365 crisis line in an amazing service to the community and helps callers avoid having to call many different organizations and being unintentionally re-victimized (through the re-telling of stories). The 40 hour training is incredible... supportive staff and peers in the group learn together and have an worldview changing experience. Further, that W.O.M.A.N, Inc manages this all on a barebones budget is truly something to be applauded. W.O.M.A.N, Inc is truly a nonprofit which merits all it's praise
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. staff work tirelessly to support the most vulnerable domestic abuse survivors in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Latina women obtaining U-Visa status and transgender survivors of domestic partner abuse. Staff take a client-oriented approach to services, meeting each client's stated needs and priorities in a way that is culturally and linguistically appropriate. The executive director manages a strong, welcoming team whose reputation in the community is characterized above all by collaboration and support for a network of partner and referral organizations.
I have been part of WInc. since 2011 and loved every minute of it! The team of volunteers and staff is amazing, hard working, big hearted and very passionate about their anti-violence work. At WInc. This is an incredible agency focused on supporting survivors.

WOMAN, Inc supports survivors of domestic violence in spite of gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, nationality, etc. They take a holistic approach, offering therapy, support groups, crisis intervention, peer counseling, and case management. All their services are offered in English and Spanish (by bilingual/bicultural volunteers and staff). They focus on prevention -- through presentations in the community and trainings, -- crisis intervention -- through their crisis line, Latina Program and Therapy program, -- and the aftermath -- through the group Echando Pa'lante. WOMAN, Inc is always looking for ways to improve their services. It's an excellent non-profit with strong feminist and community values.
W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is a fabulous organization! It is so obvious that it draws to it big hearted people who care about helping DV survivors. The powerful staff members invest themselves in educating, training, supporting, and organizing & pulling all the DV related resources together. These exceptional efforts benefit other local organizations as well as allow survivors to access information about local resources including: shelters, legal advise, free food and more, all in one place.
I highly recommend W.O.M.A.N., Inc. and its team!
The staff is absolutely amazing and the work they do is so filled with passion and commitment, that it's been a privilege to be associated with WOMAN, Inc.
The other day i pulled up at a gas station no Van Ness and there was this woman with three kids. The sign she held up said the shelters were full. I bought them some food and drink and asked if they needed other sort of help (besides a bed) and she said she had already called this agency called WOMAN, Inc, and that she knew she had support there. She only needed somewhere to sleep.
It was comforting for her as well as many like her to know that there are organisations out there that care and actually have the capacity to make a difference.
Well done WOMAN, Inc. team!!!

WOMAN Inc. is one of those organisations that truly has a heart and soul. The staff are one of the most dedicated I've seen. As soon as you start interacting with them, you know it's not just a job.
Their goal is to make a difference, which they clearly do, and so well too.
I think it's fantastic that women in domestic violence situations know that they're not alone, and that there is someone they can talk to. Someone who will do something.
Being a volunteer for Woman Inc, I am always so impressed with how down-to-earth staff and other volunteers are and how invested they are in the work that they do. Their sensitivity to the needs of the DV Community and advocacy towards a broader, more open, supportive and cooperative approach to the diversity of people experiencing DV is inspired.
As my time with W.O.M.A.N., Inc. progresses, I truly feel the dedication and heart behind the organization. Everyone involved with W.O.M.A.N., Inc. (staff, volunteers, board, community supporters) have a deep-seated passion to help empower survivors of domestic violence, by not only addressing the immediate issue of emotional, financial, physical, etc. abuse, but also by addressing broader systemic issues, like the still-present homophobia and sexism that exists in our communities and which, in turn, affect major policies which affect us all.
I've been with them for a little over 2 years now as a volunteer and throughout my time, I've always been given clear direction and support on the tasks that I do. With everything that I've done, from speaking with survivors of domestic violence on the 24/7 support line to sharing with community members about who W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is and the work they do to helping to plan fundraising events for them, I've felt really content knowing that all this work serves a greater purpose of ensuring the fair and compassionate treatment of all people, including DV survivors who are so often made to feel unworthy.

WOMAN, Inc. is an amazing organization. The staff's dedication to ending domestic violence is truly inspirational. I am grateful for your work and commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence. Thank you WOMAN Inc.
I worked with WOMAN, Inc. as a pro bono consultant on a recent strategic planning preparation project and was very impressed by the staff and volunteer's commitment to their organization's mission and to the women they serve. I felt the staff was forward facing and looking for creative and innovative ways to address both the delivery of domestic violence services as well as current and emerging challenges facing them as an organization. The staff and volunteers I worked with were passionate about identifying and addressing the needs of currently underserved populations of domestic violence survivors.
What an amazing organization! Conscious, thoughtful, helpful, non-judgmental.... these are just a few of the words that come to mind when describing W.O.M.A.N., Inc.
WOMAN Inc provides comprehensive referral and direct services to survivors of domestic violence. Their work is tireless and their competence is at the highest level. The executive director has an extensive background in domestic violence, which really shows in her leadership.
WINC operates San Francisco's domestic violence support line. 24 hours a day, overnight, on holidays, and on the weekends, highly trained advocates are available to serve survivors of domestic violence. Agencies contact WINC when they need technical assistance and can get help with domestic violence situations happening with their clients. Beyond direct services, they advocate for policy and legislation change that will better the lives of survivors. WINC seeks to connect the community with opportunities to end violence, and offer a comprehensive array of volunteer opportunities such as on the support line, events, development and outreach.
I recently joined the board of W.O.M.A.N. Inc because I was inspired by the volunteers and staff who dedicate themselves to eliminating domestic violence. The work of this organization changes lives, empowers survivors of DV and greatly impacts the community it serves. I am proud to be part of the W.O.M.A.N., Inc community and the legacy that has been built over the last 35 years.
WOMAN Inc--is a nonprofit that just celebrated its 35th birthday as the leading domestic violence crisis line and support organization in the greater San Francisco area. What has struck me most in the several years I have served on the board is the passion, dedication and commitment to mission the staff have. To a person, their goal is to eradicate all forms of domestic violence. They work on intervention, support, counseling and partnering to help those that need help.
Often, domestic violence is shrouded in shame and gilt and too often, people that want help don't seek it. WOMAN Inc understands this and provides it services with compassion and discretion and makes those in crisis feel welcome, comfortable and empowered. In times when federal, state and municipal services are facing increasing budget pressures, it is often up to organizations such as WOMAN Inc to step up and fill the void. Over the last few years, the organization has strengthened its governance, deepened its partnership with funders and stakeholders, has added board members and has recruited and retained a staff that any organization would be envious to have-from the Executive Director, the Program Managers and to the Volunteers. I see the impact the organization has, on lives strengthened, on personal progress and resolve and in the impact and efficacy of its services.
If you have an interest in domestic violence, need support, advice and help or even someone just to speak with--you could not have a better friend than WOMAN Inc.

Volunteering for W.O.M.A.N., Inc. has been a really rewarding experience. The staff truly care about the cause and are constantly trying to think of innovative, impactful ways to stop domestic violence in all of it's forms. I really appreciate the breadth of view that the organization takes when looking at domestic violence and the collaboration with other DV groups. It's all clearly to serve a greater purpose.
WOMAN, Inc. has incredible, dedicated leadership and is an invaluable resource in our community---by far one of the best annual donations I make.
WOMAN, Inc. provides comprehensive DV support services. I often refer clients to their therapeutic services and support groups. When I started out in DV five years ago, I participated in WOMAN, Inc.'s 40-hour DV training and it was an excellent training. The staff is very professional and very personable. Their work on the ground with survivors of DV is outstanding.
WOMAN Inc is awesome. Helping survivors of domestic violence connect with their sense of self worth is a beautiful thing to see and WOMAN Inc has helped thousands of people do so. WOMAN Inc is open to serving SURVIVORS, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, a super friendly atmosphere for LGBTQ communities, they work HARD at inclusion!
I began volunteering here at the start of the new year and I can honestly say that I have grown tremendously as a person and an advocate through my experiences volunteering for WOMAN, Inc. I have gained a deeper understanding into the complexities and difficulties of DV. Going through the 40-hour DV training has helped me grow as a person teaching me what it means to be in a healthy relationship and how to be a good peer. I have translated this training into many other facets of my life, such as being a better friend, role model for my family, tutor for my students, and, most importantly, an advocate for survivors of domestic violence. The support I receive as a volunteer is second to no other organization I have volunteered with. WOMAN, Inc. is an amazing organization doing amazing things and I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to work with them.
I have been working with WOMAN Inc since 2007 and feel privileged to have helped the organization support thousands of DV survivors. WOMAN Inc is a critical part of the community - and its impact goes beyond the individual clients we serve. The staff and volunteers are the best in the business. Thanks for the 30+ years of service, WOMAN Inc!

We are so lucky to have their great staff and volunteers working on this issue 24/7!!!
WOMAN, Inc. has been an amazing partner over the past few years. We appreciate our partnership with the agency. We recognized the organization for their professionalism and dedication to their target population. We are amazed by their work and commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence. It is through their endless efforts and tremendous expertise in the field that make it an easy choice for survivors to seek for help when faced with violence in an intimate relationship. Thank you WOMAN Inc.
I started working with WOMAN, Inc as a volunteer about 4 years ago, and am lucky to count myself among our small and amazing core staff team. As a volunteer, I learned so much about supporting survivors of domestic violence, and was hungry for more opportunities in the anti-violence field. I was grateful to find myself working with an organization that empowers peers to take such a huge part in this tough but crucial work. Since joining our staff team, I have had the honor of working with a dedicated group of people, and to see our community of volunteers and supporters grow and thrive. I am so proud to be a part of an organization that works towards providing inclusive and impactful services, and one that continues to evolve to meet the needs of our communities.
I have been providing therapy services for clients at WOMAN, Inc. for some time. The agency provides services that are in high demand within the community and necessary in order to address and help end domestic violence. We provide services that are designed with domestic violence survivors in mind, which is highly important in order to be relevant and of service to them. This agency is unique in the services it provides, and I wish there were more like it out in our communities.
I've been volunteering with this organization for a few months now and it has been such a wonderful experience. I am a volunteer for the social media team and I have also done outreach for the organization. I have had the pleasure of working with passionate volunteers that truly care about people who have survived or are currently going through abuse. These volunteers go far and beyond their job duties to create a supportive and comfortable environment. I am very lucky to have worked with such a wonderful team!
I have been with WOMAN Inc. for almost 4 years now. I have played a variety of roles with this agency and loved every one of them. The team of staff and volunteers are supportive, caring, hardworking and passionate about improving the lives of and empowering survivors of domestic violence. Every day we strive to become better and expand our services to make sure we are serving all communities. Each volunteer who comes through the door brings energy, new ideas and a big heart, and that is what it is all about. Here at WOMAN Inc. we work together, we support each other, we laugh and we put our best foot forward each day to improve the lives of survivors of DV. I am a proud member of the WOMAN Inc. community
I have been part of WOMAN, Inc. for almost two years, and in all the years I have been involved with the non-profit field, I have rarely come across an agency with such strong survivor-centered, feminist, and progressive values. Being part of WOMAN, Inc. is an incredible experience: I've met passionate people, learned a lot, and supported survivors of domestic violence in many ways. It's an honor to say I'm part of WOMAN, Inc!
I have been involved with WOMAN, Inc since 2010, and have had the privilege of serving this amazing agency in a number of different capacities--on the 24 hour crisis line, as a peer counselor, and as an assistant to the incomparable Latina Program. In addition to being a warm, supportive place to work, the client feedback I have heard has been 100% positive, which is not a common occurrence in the world of social services. WOMAN Inc is run efficiently, conscientiously, and always with the quality of services in mind. I am proud to contribute my time and energy to an organization that has such a positive effect on the community in which it resides.
Having volunteered at WOMAN, Inc for exactly a year, I have been
continually impressed by all the people here. Volunteers, MFT interns
and staff are all genuinely dedicated to their work with survivors.
WOMAN, Inc-ers do not only see survivors as a group with a common
cause, but they also focus on the journey of each individual survivor.
In addition, WOMAN, Inc does its best to facilitate other DV agencies'
good work by building and maintaining a communal database of resources.
In sum, WOMAN, Inc is a wonderful community that does excellent work -
and I have always been proud to say that I volunteer here.

Having volunteered with WOMAN, Inc for several months now, I feel constantly lucky to be part of such important work and to collaborate with and learn from impressive people. WOMAN, Inc people are motivated and have their hearts in what they do. As a result, they do a great job of helping DV survivors – through their crisis line, support groups, therapy sessions, and online resource database for providers. Their anti-DV efforts are excellent and they themselves are awesome!
I started volunteering for WOMAN, Inc in the Fall of 2011 at a time of transition and uncertainty in my life. I was referred to the organization by a friend who worked there and I thought it sounded like a good-person thing to do to start volunteering there. I didn't think much more about it past that. Upon completing the 40 hour domestic violence training, however, my views had radically changed. I no longer felt uncertain about my future aspirations and knew that I wanted to dedicate my life's work to empowering survivors of domestic violence. WOMAN, Inc was the catalyst for this change of heart and I will never be able to repay them for how much they have taught me throughout these last couple years. They are a truly nurturing, thoughtful and generally awesome group of advocates. Their work is effective and mindful, as is their interactions with the community they serve. I want to be involved with this nonprofit in some way as long as I am able to and really believe that they are deserving of the highest praise and rewards.
WOMAN Inc is a wonderful nonprofit to volunteer for. Volunteering here gives you the satisfaction of being part of something meaningful and crucial for the community, as well as helps you improve your professional skills. WOMAN Inc has opportunities for nearly all skill sets--whether your interests lie in the field of IT or working with children or event planning, there will be a place for you. The team at WOMAN Inc is very nice and appreciative.
WOMAN Inc has helped hundreds of thousands of survivors deal with the trauma endured in an abusive relationship. They don't judge your choices, and are independent of the shelter system. They help focus in on survivors who don't want to enter shelter, can't get into shelter (because of lack of space or just don't fit into the communal living aspect of the programming), or even if you aren't sure if you are ready to leave yet. They are astounding at what they do. Please donate your resources, they are really deserving of your time.
I've been volunteering at WOMAN, Inc for a few months now and it has been the most meaningful and best experience I have ever received in this line of work. The training we received really made me realize how much WOMAN, Inc cares about the people who use their services and also, how much they care about their volunteers. I feel like this agency really goes above and beyond when working with service users and they definitely taught me a lot when it comes to working with survivors of domestic violence. I am so grateful to be apart of this organization.
I've been a volunteer with WOMAN inc. for a few months and it has been a truly transformative experience. The organization approaches domestic violence advocacy through a survivor-defined model, thereby empowering and giving agency to survivors of domestic violence. The organization also offers a tremendous array of services, from free/sliding-scale therapy and peer counseling to staffing a crisis line that helps support survivors and provide them with referrals to other domestic violence agencies and organizations. Because of this amazing work, I wholeheartedly support WOMAn Inc. and its staff/volunteers, and the work that they do!
I have been volunteering at WOMAN INC for a couple of months and loving what this non profit does for all people who are in domestic violent situations. Every one is so dedicated and such hard workers.
WOMAN Inc. is a small agency walking alongside and empowering survivors of domestic violence. This amazing staff does awesome work within the community and is a vital force in restoring hope and working towards making abuse nonexistent. I have had a great time volunteering with WOMAN Inc. for the past couple months and am thankful to truly see how much of an impact the staff has in the lives of the survivors they assist.
I love this organization because they include every women from every community in their services with no exclusion. I'm a volunteer at Woman Inc. and I really like how nice and professional everybody is here.
WOMAN Inc. has served the community for 30 years. Amazing how they have helped shift the awareness of the community in their services and outreach. Keep going!
After graduating from grad school, I was looking to enter the non-profit world. I really wanted to work with programs that dealt with domestic violence, having experienced it myself in a past relationship, and witnessing it among relatives of mine. I learned about WOMAN, Inc and contacted them to become a volunteer and it has been a life changing experience. I began by working as an outreach volunteer, helping to bring awareness about domestic violence through presentations to the community. Then I took WOMAN, Inc's 40 hour domestic violence training to becomes a crisis line counselor. WOMAN, Inc is unique in that they work with all survivors regardless of where they are in the relationship. WOMAN, Inc works with the survivor to help them reach their goals in creating lives free of violence. The staff working there are incredibly dedicated to this cause and you couldn't find a more compassionate and hard-working group.
Woman Inc. has helped (and is still helping) so many women gain strength and resources to better their lives. A lot of times, abused women can not get out their relationships dues to lack of resources. Woman Inc. provides a daily log of which shelters are available all through Bay Area, gives Bart, hotel and food vouchers whenever possible, has a 24 hour Crisis Line.
When I was working on the Crisis Line, I remember doing research for clients without Internet access and even giving resources for out of state callers.
Many clients benefit from their psychotherapy services, to feel better, have more self esteem, prevent getting into abusive relationships again.
Woman Inc. staff really care about what they and their clients. I was honored to be a part of that team and I still use them as a resource.

Volunteering for WOMAN Inc. first as a crisis line volunteer and then as an outreach advocate changed my life. My perspective was forever altered as I went through their training program and then performed the tasks I was trained to do. In training, this organization went above and beyond with regard to the resources made available. Yet they also successfully highlighted the most important information so that it didn't all wash over us in a crushing wave. I ended my training clear on the most important steps I could help a woman make regardless of where she was in her journey and I finished with a more profound understanding of the emotional and economic forces operating against any victim of DV.
Once on the crisis line I learned how the best intentions can go awry. It is important to know where you want the conversation to go, but it is equally important to sit back from that goal and to just listen. The skill of guiding a conversation while respecting the individual paths that each caller must take is a tremendous challenge. WOMAN Inc understands this and is on hand to discuss any and every call their volunteers handle. They support us to support our communities. I truly believe San Francisco is the great city that it is directly because of the work that WOMAN Inc has done and will continue to do for us all.

Working as a volunteer at W.O.M.A.N Inc was one of the most powerful and empowering experiences of my life. What makes W.O.M.A.N Inc so unique and special is their focus on empowerment for women. During the volunteer certification, they explain how when a woman finds herself in a domestic violence situation, she loses her power via the relationship with the batterer. Therefore, the role of any domestic violence organization, should be to allow the woman the choice to regain her power and agency. This means that W.O.M.A.N Inc should act as a tool for women, not another person that tells her what to do and when to do it. To me, this made W.O.M.A.N Inc incredibly revolutionary because it didn't help just eliminate violence, but rather worked to restore agency, dignity and strength.

My experience working as a volunteer on the WOMAN Inc. crisis line was powerful and fulfilling. I went through the organization's rigorous training to become a certified domestic violence counselor, and I found the training engaging , fascinating, and helpful. By the time I started working on the crisis line, I felt prepared. Nervous, but prepared! :)

WOMAN Inc. stretches a service dollar the furthest and with the most compassion of any organization I know. Invariably, if I go somewhere wearing my WOMAN Inc. cap or carrying a WOMAN Inc. notebook, someone approaches me and tells me how they were personally helped by WOMAN Inc and what a great organization it is. It is tragic that the need for WOMAN Inc.'s services is so great, but, as long as it exists, WOMAN Inc. needs to be there.

Woman Inc is a key partner in preventing and ending violence against women. In addition to supporting the needs of San francisco's survivors of domestic violence, Woman Inc frequently supports the crisis hotlines of other domestic violence prevention agencies. Finally, Woman Inc maintains and distributes the daily list of available shelter beds for the entire bay area.
