At a time when independent media is under attack, our support of good journalism and timely reporting is critical. Truth-Out.org exemplifies the importance of independent media unconstrained by support from government or corporate interests. An unbiased perspective is crucial for public awareness of the factors that shape decisions regarding pipelines, refugee and immigration policies, electoral politics, militarism and policing, education, employment, and so many other contemporary issues that affect us all directly. Truth-Out asks critical questions and refuses to settle for superficial or incomplete answers. Their editing is exemplary, their coverage is broad sweeping, hard-hitting and empowering. They are a needed prescription for an uneducated citizenry that suffers from a malaise of corporate-controlled, government backed, ulterior-motive-driven mass media faux news.

What would we do without Truthout. They nurture real journalism and true journalists. Reading Truthout everyday i find the conversation i need to be more informed and smarter. Thoughtful and consider arguments and explorations into peace, climate change, racism: the issues we are grappling with daily by those in contact with the front lines.

I read TruthOut almost daily and rely on its independent journalism to serve as an antidote to the stranglehold that corporate, profit-driven media outlets have by their omission of crucial stories and their promotion of the inane and banal. TruthOut has the highest editorial standards for accuracy of information, for veracity of sources, for relevance of issues, and most importantly, for their integrity and courage to take on the toughest, lacerating issues.

Additionally, as an instructor of Journalism, I hold up (on a regular basis) their articles to my students and value them as models of strong, high-integrity journalism.

Finally, I was fortunate enough to have an Op-Ed published in June in TruthOut (on Climate Disruption and the media) and I gained enormous respect for their editors as they worked with me; I have great affection for them and the work that they do every day. They bring a beacon of hope in our turbulent age.

I count on Truthout to support and publish the kind of great stories about climate change that are so missing from most of the rest of our mainstream media. Who else will support this work? Even NPR seems to have lost its edge over the last several years.

Truthout does excellent and vital work for global political and ecological discourses. Particularly the work of Dahr Jamail and William Rivers Pitt stands out in my opinion. Not only are they great journalist asking hard, important questions and delving into hypocrisies of power and the paradox of global capitalism, they are great writers.

Truthout seems to be a leftist organization masquerading as an "unbiased" alternative news source. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Virtually everything I've read on their web site indicates that it is part of the Socialist Progressive (Marxists) philosophy movement.

Truthout is an organization which tells a side of the story not often represented in mainstream news. It keeps me informed by having intelligent, incisive articles and real investigative journalism to expose facts and stories which help expose wrongdoing and promote solutions; in short, this news source helps to make democracy and human rights flourish.

However much we may think we enjoy or believe in the Brian Williams-type news, it's just not the real deal. It's all made for TV with all the requisite sound bites/visuals, requires little brain use and can't possibly be thorough due to the MASSIVE amount of advertising (read: MONEY) required. TRUTHOUT is great. It proves all the news you should now but the main stream media is not reporting. Their articles are must reads. Their contributing writers have become household names. Because of TRUTHOUT, I seek them out on other blog sites, look forward to seeing them being interviewed by the likes of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, and look for their books to read. Truthout is the rarest of news outlets. It provides a comprehensive view of the world without resorting to the crippling conventional wisdom offered by other 'reliable' sources.

Truthout lives up to its name. It gets the truth out about national and international politics and events.

America's current corporate media subsists by ratings and commercial appeal. They produce propaganda and entertainment. Most Americans are ill informed about anything political and accept commercial media as factual.

Along with being biased towards the profitable, American media refuses to air selected stories that are contrary to their propaganda.

Not so with Truthout. They report news - good and bad. They speak truth to power. They deserve your support.

Without Truthout I would be deaf and blind. Although I have been subscribed to their news service for only a few weeks, I have come to appreciate T's high standard of journalism, offering fair balanced reporting, in stark contrast to mainstream media. I wish only that T would offer similar quality journalism on Canadian matters.

From what I've seen, Truthout provides limited "bandwagon" vantage points that endorse popular vantage points without technical expertise. The information provided by this group, with regards to nuclear energy, is very closed minded and I find it unfortunate that very few journalistic agencies actually do research in this day and age. Please reassess your articles on nuclear energy – if it’s done correctly (which has been demonstrated more than not) it is cleaner and more efficient than current technologies. Please access a real source in the scientific community that understands what nuclear energy is.

Truthout is an essential part of my daily routine. The reporting and information provided here are far superior and much more telling of the events happening in our world than anything that can be found in the mainstream media.

This website tells a lot of truth, by publishing articles, all in one place, about the events of crucial interest to people everywhere: politics, science (as in Nuclear Power Plants) economics, et al, telling the truth that is disastrously left untold by the public press.

I live in Japan, and we get the international version of CNN and BBC, and one PBS news program. I hear them all tell lies, and focus on the less-than-necessary including much disaster-entertainment, and present a very right wing slant, including the BBC! And of course the IHT and wire services information in the local English language newspapers is limited, cherry picked and slanted. Truthout has an amazing amount of information, and covers an amazing range of what we need to know and cannot get in the press.

Truthout is an important tool for an informed electorate, which the right does not seem to value.

Truthout is an essential source of news for me every day. I currently live outside of the US, but I am an American who relies on getting the truth in journalism. I get my news from the internet, and I read a variety of news sources, but Truthout is at the top for providing me with news I can trust. It offers a compilation of the best news out there in both mainstream and alternative news.
I love the Buzz-out quick read news items--these pieces are always hard-hitting, immediate, and compelling. Truthout has some of the most intelligent voices in news--Thom Hartmann, Chris Hedges, William Rivers Pitt--people who are fearless in their expression of both fact and opinion.

Prior to the existence of such high-quality news on the web, I often felt isolated in my beliefs and opinions. After the 9-11 event at the World Trade Center in 2001, I immediately knew there was a story behind the official story. But try talking to your neighbors and friends and boy, you'd feel ostracized and 'unpatriotic.'

Now, when I get my daily dose of information, I know I am not alone, and I can see that I'm not the only one who feels a need to move our society in a different direction. I love that Truthout prints investigative pieces that go behind sensational headlines.

I want news that is vital. I find Huffington Post annoying; Alternet has its share of fluff. Truthout is the best!!!!

Truthout's environmental and energy coverage is exhaustive, comprehensive, and ESSENTIAL to get a true global perspective on global environmental issues, concerns, sollutions, and resources. I support Truthout by words and by financial support to the best of my ability. USE and SUPPORT Truthout.

I am grateful to be receiving Truthout and intend to support the efforts of this alternative media. What does one expect from the corporate world when Disney owns ABC, Comcast owns NBC, Time Warner owns CNN, Fox Communications owns Fox News and whomever owns CBS. The media no longer provide in-depth reporting to the public. The major stories of the day are given shortshrift or not published at all. The contributors to Truth Out are impressive, Paul Krugman, Chris Hedges, etc.

Liberalism and progressivism need to reassert a place of pride in the messages disseminated to the American Public. The power elite of the United States has failed the people of the United States through a lack of responsibility and accountability. The sclerotic and dysfunctional status quo needs to be portrayed for what it truly is: a civilization in decline attempting to squeeze as much of the sweet juice from the fruit as possible prior to disposing of the "useless fiber."

As an Emmy award winning investigative journalist and consumer advocate, I look to Truthout as one of my very few sources for news that I cannot get elsewhere. As an unemployed broadcast journalist, I can tell you that Truthout is a thorn in the side of the MSM.

Journalistic integrity beholden to no corporation is the key to receive news that is occurring but not reported on by the corporate owned news organizations.

It is imperative that Truthout has the means by which to continue to perform a role that is vital to our democracy. It saddens me greatly when I see how they must ask for handouts in order to survive. Our democracy depends upon news from an unbiased source beholden to no corporate entity.

The truth is hard to come by these days! Seems like the governors of several states are trying to muzzle any opposition . I attended a rally this past Feb. ( for the American Dream)in Columbus. The Statehouse provided a PA system that didn't work. Fortunately I was able to fix the problem after the 1st speaker. RIDICULOUS ..........I felt driven to take off of work to attend that particular day. Glad I did !

Truthout has informed me of so much that other news outlets leave out. Truthout offers so much by giving a wide array of articles that really cut to the point of what is happening in our world. Because it is independent, Truthout does not have to pander to politicians. I appreciate all that Truthout does, and I will continue to be a loyal reader.

I was a subscriber of Truthout's Facebook page until one day they wrote an article that I found to be misleading and falsified. When I stated my opinion they deleted me.

I use this organization on a daily basis for verifying information that I get from news organizations and internet resources. It is extremely difficult to know fact from fancy or just plain out falsehoods that can do great damage. To me it is extremely important in a democracy that citizens are well informed so that they can make decisions based on fact rather than what they wish to believe or others for their own self interest wish people to believe. With well established corporations such as Fox News misleading people into acting against their own and their country's self interests it is critical that organizations such as Truthout be supported and helped to grow. Our country depends on it. The welfare of the individual depends on it.

In a world where newspapers no longer represent the ideals that prompted Thomas Jefferson to say he would choose free press newspapers over government, Truthout is one of the few places filling that void. They provide sane, reasonable reporting of facts as well as exposes of those that usurp the truth and wish to enslave the minds of their followers. Sadly newspapers have lost their right to claim to be free since they have allowed tyrants to control their words. After 9/11, I became acutely aware of the strong-armed muzzling of the american mainstream media. It became clear that without accurate and freely available information, democracy is a rubble of a dream. A hoax of the highest order.

I don't want to read about Tiger Blood, and I don't care about whether Scarlett and Sean are dating. I care about a world where my child has a chance at a decent life. I care about America's actions and profile around the globe. I care about holding my elected officials accountable - even if I campaigned hard for them. I deserve the truth, I deserve the dignity of making informed decisions, and I can't be distracted by bread and circuses. I have to make hard decisions, I have to sacrifice, in order to be a good parent, a good neighbor and a good citizen. Truthout is the only news source that has the decency to give me the tools I need to be the person I want to be.

Truthout is indispensable. Transparency is hard to come by in this country news-wize. I otherwise depend on outsiders - RT / 24 / MHZ because their opinions are more objective and nuanced than the defensive content delivered by the US Barbie anchors and tie straightening, bloated politicians.

I do not know what I would do without Truthout. It is one of the few places I can go to get real investigative journalism and find out the truth of what is happening in the world. If it were not for Truthout I would have no news source because all that is left is propganda TV and corporate owned fantasy news. I am unemployed and have two other unemployed people living in my home. We cannot afford expensive cable, thank God for Truthout!

Like many people out there and before us, my eyes have been closed to what has actually been going on around us and how the government conducts itself in secrecy and treats the citizens as potential enemys and i will admit that the reason I didnt know about our corrupt foriegn policy and the truth in afganistan and iraq because we never really saw it on mainstream media now did we? It wasnt till 4-5 years I actually started looking for other sources on the internet because I was tired of the nonsense the mainstream media was reporting on , things to keep us entertained like , the president got a new dog or 24 hour coverage of anna nicloe smith dying and my favorite has been every network channel pander to the a drug addict like charlie sheen and reward his behaviour by paying him money to do the interviews in the first place. So my quest for good independent news sources continued where they would report / write articles based on actual fact , non-partisan opinions and I believe I found it a year ago with Truthout and along with multiple other good independent sites. I would say literally everything I've read from you guys has been outstanding and well written. Truthout also has a wide range of topics they discuss like shady politics , drug wars , iraq/afganistan/yemen/pakistan and now libiyan wars and the reason I think I kinda have some what of a grasp on whats going on in the world is because sites like Truthout made it possible. Truthout is some of the best independent journalism I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The articles span a very broad cross-section of relevant issues and go well-beyond mainstream media fare. The writing is, without fail, insightful and thought-provoking. One of the things I most enjoy about Truthout is how in depth their articles are. My only feedback is that sometimes they are so long, that I can't possibly finish them during the time I have available, but I guess that's what the "bookmark" feature is for! I love their artwork and I love that they continue to give expression to some of the leading leaders and theorists from the "Left". I've been reading Truthout regularly from Facebook for at least 6 months now. I wish I had found it earlier. In my opinion, they have very well written reports by well-known experts. Assertions are backed up with actual facts. There is a level of investigative journalism in the reports that I read at Truthout that I don't find on television or in my local paper. I can depend on them to find the underlining story and to get to the bottom of the matter, sometimes in the face of the prevailing news media. I don't have a lot of money, but I fully intend to donate to support this valuable information source. I would not like to see them have to stop reporting.

Truthout helps me inform my community, colleagues, and friends about our the political and economic landscape of our country. It motivates me daily to work toward a more equitable and prosperous community.

Today, for instance, I spoke about my community's concerns about school teacher reductions with the head of HR for the entire city school system. I am proud that I have established a communication link between parents of my school, the teacher's Union, and the LAUSD school system. Truthout helps motivate me to be an active and responsible citizen. They provide a national and local context to I value them so much that I donate a very small amount to TruthOut on a monthly basis.

What I most enjoyed about Truthout, being on a limited fixed income, was their "disclaimer" saying something to the effect that if you can't afford to donate, don't worry, but please tell your friends about us. Most of the articles I see in Truthout, are not affected by the publications' relationship to advertisers (as when Molly Ivins was writng for the Dallas paper, and she wrote an item critical of an automobile, and the Dallas Auto Dealers pulled all their advertising from that paper, and the Editor took out billboards "Molly Ivins can't say that, can she?").

I rely on TruthOut for quality and accurate information about what transpires in our world. We can't rely on corporate-controlled media anymore. TruthOut is a pioneer and a trail-blazer in providing a viable alternative to corporate news. I highly recommend TruthOut to anyone interested in "real" news, and they are one of the few organizations I support financially (it's not a lot, but it's what I've got!)

Since at least 2000, the "Fourth Estate" has neglected its role of keeping our citizens well informed with great investigative reporting. As a result, wars are being waged that needn't have been and thousands of our troops and innocent civilians of the world have been murdered. TruthOut is helping fill be void left when the corporate owned media (only about 6 or 7 mega-companies now control content and accuracy in news) dictate what we see, hear, and read. Right now, it is citizens and organizations with patriotism and quality journalism at heart that are barely holding fascism at bay or exposing fascism's creep into our government and its policies and procedures. We can only hope TruthOut keeps up the quality journalism it has offered thus far.

Truthout does exactly what it says on the tin. I don't subscribe to alerts from many sources but Truthout tops my list. It agenda is simple. The education of the masses into the erosion of freedoms where ever that may be. It stands apart because it has no set agenda, its drive is in the flow of information and viewpoints in an age where connection provides the tools to unite people with a common goal.

Five star is described as being "Far exceeds expectations", and this is certainly true for TRUTHOUT. All the articles are exceptionally well written, researched, collaborated and different. They do not tell the same story as the mainstream media, but in many cases give a well-argued and factually supported view of current affairs. I was extremely impressed by TRUTHOUT from reading my first article, and receive regular updates via Facebook. Their website is very accessible and topical with new articles of extreme interest, especially in the covering of the Wisconsin protests (which were not well covered here in the UK), and Wikileaks. All I can say is I'm glad to have discovered such a great organization which I hope will continue to expand and will bring the Truth out.

I have read the various articles in TRUTHOUT for awhile. I don't like the general media, which I find to be numbing and slanted toward what I call the corporate sponsered non-news. I trust TRUTHOUT to have renowned investigative writers and people who question the status-quo. I want to know the facts so I can draw my own conclusions. I don't care about what I call the fluff and stuff news, ie. Lindsey, Brittaniny, Rush L., and Beck-the people whose egos must be stroked(shiver), so they make their millions. Someone has to counterbalance the stream of corporate sponsored news. Access to independent analysis is critical to staying informed about current events and long term trends.

I rely on Truthout for daily, in-depth, well-researched reporting. Now I just have to remember to mail in another contribution to them so that they can keep giving me more of the same.

Truthout delivers well-researched, informative articles daily to my Facebook wall, and I read them all. The articles are often more in-depth than those of major dailies, and the editorial and writing standards are very high. It is one of my most trusted sources for news and information that is often glossed over by mainstream media outlets, and a fresh unique voice on the stories that receive wide attention. Truthout transcends typical blog standards by a wide margin. I hope it continues to thrive!

Truthout has alerted us, on a very regular basis, to irregularities -governmental and corporate. I've found its articles to be honest and truthful.

Truth-Out's articles are immensely informative; so much so, that after a few months of regularly reading the site, I was moved to become a donor. Unfortunately, even though I am a donor, Truth-Out's website prevents me from participating in the discussions attached to the articles. Whenever I try to post a comment, I get a message saying that my post appears to be a duplicate, and that it was blocked by the site's "spam filter."

Three times I have tried to contact support via the contact links on the site to request assistance with the problem, and three times has my request gone without the courtesy of a reply. I would therefore publicly like to request that the site either have the courtesy to contact me to resolve my comment posting problem, or have the decency to return my contributions to date. This is no way to treat a donor!

Truthout forgets that its name starts with Truth, not fiction, not lies and lies is exactly what it has frequently posted about depleted uranium. The latest article by its Intern Mike Ludwig does not measure up to the prior standard established by reports from Mississippi a couple of years ago about the long ago lynchings there.

Truthout has been an indispensable source of information on global issues of human rights -- including women's rights. By empowering more women journalists and correspondents in their daily news cycle, Truthout remains aligned with its mission of justice through education on the most important issues of our time. As a woman journalist myself, it's oftentimes difficult to break through within the long-standing patriarchal structure of news-breaking. But Truthout's internal structure, with its top administrative and editorial positions occupied by brilliant women, makes this glass ceiling disappear. Thank you, Truthout!

I am a co-convener of the legislative working group of United for Peace and Justice and a professor of US foreign policy. Of all the progressive websites, Truthout has been the most responsive to me and to the work of our organization (which has been mainly led by women). As our Congressional work has unfolded, the editors have sought our input on developments and they have also been willing to publish articles, when relevant. When other websites report on this subject, they have overwhelmingly relied on men as their sourcss. Truthout does excellent reporting. The fact that it is now led by women is a meaningful accomplishment.

A well curated combination of news and opinion, combining both original pieces and work published elsewhere. Insightful, provocative and challenging, I wish I had the time to fully digest all they offer. Occasionally, conflicting views may be presented, yet they are always well considered and thoughtfully presented. I wouldn't want to go without it.

Truthout provides accurate and relevant information. I have had an excellent experience with this organization. It keeps me well-informed with up-to-the minute information.

Recent issues covered by Truthout include the BP oil spill, Rand Paul's election in KY, and the new immigration law in AZ. In covering each of these issues, Truthout consistently provides the reader with unique points of view, news on under-covered points of view, and frequently Truthout provides the reader with news stories not covered by the mainstream media. Their news coverage has sparked me to do more research into a number of topics and has caused me to change my view more than once. In a day of highly partisan news reporting, Truthout is a breath of fresh, and honest air!

Truthout is a great independent online news source that reports honestly and with integrity. Truthout is one of the few news sources that I can count on to be accurate and without a personal and/or business agenda. They report the truth and the facts...which is rare lately.

Truthout came to my attention as many of the articles I came across on various news boards and websites and found to be well researched, informed and often times the lone voice on a viewpoint were written for Truthout. Not sure if it was a Greg Palast, Noam Chomsky, Dhar Jamail, William Rivers Pitt or one of the other contributors but it did not take long to recognize the role that Truthout takes in providing real news to a neglected audience.

For a year or so Truthout was just one of several sources for news and opinion outside mainstream manipulations - good, helpful, trustworthy. But as political power plays became less literate, as the Obama-glow faded, as the US showed itself incapable of dealing with the fundamentals of functional democracy, Truthout became a pillar of sanity in the daily online schedule. Then to realize the actual quality of the contributors, to read them regularly, to find actual references to other reading included with the essays - Truthout exemplifies for me real and ethical journalism that operates from both a democratic imperative to truth but also from a pedagogy of respect for its readers...that they may become informed thinkers and participants in public life. Yes, "client served" as a daily reader; a "donor" as often as I can afford; a "professional" in that I am writing my dissertation and have made use of the references and will be quoting from essays; and a "general member" in that I post essays to Facebook. When I've had concerns or comments or had problems with email service, response from Truthout has been prompt and respectful. Of the several news sites I subscribe to, Truthout is the one I depend on most for thoughtful and in-depth consideration of the issues.

Truthout is an exceptional source for anyone interested in finding out more about important issues that are not being reported by the main-stream media outlets. I've been reading regularly for over a year now, and find their work to be extremely powerful and thought-provoking. Truthout is a beacon of truly independent journalism shining in a sea of circuses.

Truthout collects, sometimes supports the writing of, and distributes (via the internet) valuable news and analysis that can rarely be found in other media. It is especially valuable in offering a daily compendium of stories and commentary on national and international events, as well as political commentary. Truthout has some direct competitors, but no other comparable service is as useful and dependable. I support them modestly with the little I can afford. I wish I could send more.

I live in Melbourne Australia and for the last 3-4 years have awakened ever increasingly to the alternative "story" on the "goings on" in our world. The internet has been the most wonderful tool for my awakening. To realize that there are other sources for other perspectives, more information, on the story's and the "goings on" that mainstream media and news report on. 3-4 years ago I came across "Truthout". To this day, this news source remains my favourite source of information for true reporting. I have come to totally trust Truthout for its honest, independent journalism, that it is unafraid to run stories critical of the US government and its policies at a time of such deceit.

Truthout is a wholly unique news organization that structurally debases the status quo—and not just the status quo of corporate news media, but of independent, organized, and feminist news organizations.

Truthout is a top rate news provider, and a vital one. They touch the stories that no one else will. And in addition I have found them to be accurate and dependable. So far I have not found them to be in error, lying or exaggerating, or giving a 'spin' to a story to promote a specific viewpoint. This type of old school journalistic integrity is rare and valuable in this time of 'fluff' news that has been watered down and 'tailored' for 'consumers'.

Truthout is a news aggregator and journalistic organization providing me with outstanding news and commentary that is simply not available from mainstream sources. It gives me the opportunity to feel more genuinely informed so that I can attempt to protect my family and assist my community and country from a place that feels truthful. Authenticity is crucial and I feel that Truthout's mission is to keep providing me, the owner of a small business, with the best information that can be fearlessly presented.

Since the media no longer reports any news not relating to Lindsey Lohan it has become mandatory to search out news on the internet and read it to yourself. Truthout provides a website that gathers important news from a variety of sources, and their own reporters' and opinion writers' articles, in one place. If you are registered with their site they send the articles straight to your email address. I read everyday from the Truthout emails. I read news that never sees the light of day, at worst, or news that may eventually make it into mainstream news, months or years later. With Truthout you know what's going on, when it's going on.

Truthout is an organization that performs an extremely valuable public service by compiling quality writing and reporting from a wide variety of sources. They make this writing easily available on their website and by sending out frequent summaries with links to pieces. It's an amazing labor of democracy, for only an informed public can make the best decisions for society as a whole. And you certainly don't get a true perspective on the wide variety of stories and thinking out there from the mainstream media.

Truthout is one of the many news sources i look to to find relevant information about current issues and crises that affect the populations that i serve.

Extremely informative news site, what I really like about truthout is that they don't fall in line like the other news sources. They tell the truth and are not to expose the real and very controversial subjects.

Tell your story here and help others understand this charity Other than giving $10 a month, I do not have any other role than a consumer of they information that they provide. I am almost a shut in due to a condition that affect my spine, its connective tissues, and the spinal cord. Because of this, Truthout is an extremely trenchant portal on the physical world as well as the world of idea. I highly recommend that you support this organization as I know of no other that provides the services Truthout does and the loss of Truthout would be a substantial blow to my quality of life. An excellent source of information. It tends to be biased toward the let, but that's good since so many of the other media outlets are nothing more than right wing talking points memos.

This is a great source of information and inspiration for me, offering news and articles from all over the media which I otherwise might miss. It is one of my top current event resources, and I am grateful it is there.
