I've known HAL for a few years now. Compassionate, deidcated and caring are just a few words I could use to describe HAL. While HAL may be a small rescue, their hearts are huge. They do what they can to do their part in this world.

First found HAL when I was desperate for help with a cat that was abandoned by his family. Within 3 days, HAL found a home for the sweet boy where he lived out the rest of his life. No questions asked, no hesitation

Each individual I've come into contact with from HAL has been extremely easy to work with, accommodating, prompt. and polite. I would recommend this rescue to anyone. In fact, HAL has helped me on many occasions with information regarding cats and even helped me find a home for a stray kitty that I found on my college campus (even from states away HAL was awesome!). It's nice to know that good-hearted individuals like the ones who make up HAL are still in the rescue world.

Their passion and commitment are second to none! They all go above and beyond! This past year they were instrumental in helping to shut down and rescue the animals of a shelter run by an unbelievably abusive staff (who are now facing legal charges). Throughout severe illness, stress, lack of sleep, lack of funds, threats, etc. HAL never gave up! They are our heroes!

HAL is a great rescue. They go above and beyond. I'm proud to call them friends. They have offered their assistance many times in the past with my own cat issues (most of which I ended up not needing) and have always been kind to me in the advice department. They may be a small rescue, but they have a HUGE heart and passion for what they do. Whenever I'm able to volunteer time, I am never disappointed. HAL fundraisers are always so interesting and fun and it is always a pleasure meeting other volunteers with the same huge passion for animals as me.

No nonsense charity where every penny benefits the animals. The volunteers tirelessly pursue precarious rescue situations and too often use their own funds to secure the safety and/or medical attention an animal direly needs. I am a cynic and a sceptic and I never hesitate to support HAL.

I've been philanthropically and alturistically involved throughout my adult life. I am very sceptical and do tons of research before opening my wallet. Here are the reasons I never hesitate to support Homeless Animal Lifeline:
1. Dedicated, compassionate and totally selfless volunteers who move every penny to help the animals.
2. The volunteers stay clear of politics, fighting with other rescue groups and excel at collaborating with outside entities if it helps save a life or spread the good word.
3. Beyond rescue and often immediate help, the volunteers educate, reach-out to pet owners in distress and comfort, support and provide guidance.
4. This organization tirelessly explores new and creative venues to raise funds and awareness.
5. - 1000 - For every life saved, for every person educated, for every beating heart of compassion.

I had the pleasure of working with HAL for many months during a municipal shelter emergency and ultimate quarantine.. They stepped up in the most unbelievable way. HAL's volunteers always go above and beyond to help animals in need. They focus on special-needs animals that most people pass over. This gives these animals a new lease on life. HAL also raises funds for animals that need medical assistance. They helped me earlier this year when my dog needed a blood transfusion. HAL is by far one of the best animal rescue groups in the country!

Homeless Animal Lifeline consistently helps high risk animals, including elderly cats and those with FeLV. In other words, they provide a vital service that gives animals the opportunity to have a great life instead of wasting away in a shelter or being put down due to a lack of space. Additionally, their tireless volunteers assist many feral communities, and their high level of care does not stop even during horrible weather such as blizzards and hurricanes. The leadership of this group is very responsive, polite and knowledgeable, and I know that I can turn to them any time I have a question about cat care.

Today, with the help and committment of Michele and HAL, my prayers were answered for my 3 ferals that came into my life this past November. They came to me starving, cold, and lonely. I began feeding them which led to me setting up shelter on my patio. I saved their lives through this miserable winter, hoping to bond with them this Spring. Sadly, I received notice from my community Board members here in Freehold, and animal control, that I must immediately stop feeding, and remove all shelters, as the cats are not welcome in my community. I was so saddened by this. I have 2 dogs, a bird, and a small house, with a 2 pet limit. I did not know where to turn. Fortunately Michele and HAL stepped in and managed to find a wonderful farm for my cats to live on and be fed and sheltered. I don't know what I would have done without the committment and compassion that they had for me, my Mittens, Leon and Scrappy. Thank you for helping us.

HAL is a grassroots organization that helps animals in its own community as well as providing education and guidance to people from all over. HAL rescues animals from shelters, places them in foster homes and networks for animals in and outside of NJ. HAL donates cat supplies and feral cat shelters to those in need. HAL collected and donated to displaced animals in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. HAL maintains an active Facebook page and social media presence. HAL volunteers are friendly and approachable. I am proud to be a part of this group and am thankful that I am able to see firsthand how many lives have been saved because of HAL!

It is organizations like HAL and, specifically, people like Michelle, who make such a significant contribution and difference in this crazy world. Cats and dogs who would NEVER otherwise have a chance to make it out the FRONT door of a "shelter are pulled to safety by her and HAL. Animals that are at risk, abused and/or abandoned are rescued - all to be fostered and/or adopted to loving and safe forever homes. She works tirelessly and selflessly to respond to, and act upon, each and every request for "help" she gets. HAL also actively participates in TNR for feral cats - instead of being cruelly and unnecessarily euthanized, they are humanely trapped, spayed/neutered and then released, therefore, helping to control the feral population. Every animal has a soul - every animal deserves to be loved and deserves the chance to live. Because of the dedication of the volunteers at HAL, combined with Michelle's daily personal devotion and efforts, one precious life at a time is being saved. That says it all.

Homeless Animal Lifeline came into my life by shear accident. And I do not want them to ever leave.

After loosing our kitten to FIP (a horrible disease, do not goggle it) - we were searching for a new pet that would somehow replace the sadness we had lived through. After speaking to dozens of local animal rescues and left feeling empty - I almost gave up. It was Feb and every rescue had few kittens and they were completely arrogant to people with children. My two beautiful children - who were struggling with the deep loss of their kitten right after Hurricane Sandy.

And yet somehow posting our need on Facebook, connected one friend to another and DOC came into our lives. He was residing at Helmetta Shelter and after he warmed his way into our hearts - Michele & HAL had him vetted and delivered to our home within two days.

Doc has lived with us for almost a year and I couldn't have it any other way. The work Michele & HAL does is continuous, her love for animals is transparent and unconditional.

Doc always belonged in our (crazy) family and we are very grateful for the work HAL does.

This charity has an incredible love and compassion for animals. "Every life is worth saving" is how they roll. They go above and beyond to save cats in need....the homeless, the sick, the injured, the senior, and the special needs cat. They try to place them in a suitable home with love and caring. I met HAL while working at a local shelter. I was totally impressed and so happy to find someone who cared about cats or any animal as much as I do. They work continuously to make sure every life is safe. They also try to educate people on how to handle feral cats and will teach about TNR. Vet bills are paid out of their own pocket. I am extremely happy that they are here to help!!

Homeless Animal Lifeline is a rescue that has helped many people and animals find homes. Their compassion and love far exceeds any other rescue I have come across. They are extremely knowledgeable and are people who will actually take the time out of their extremely busy schedules to talk to you! They have changed my life and have made me see that there are truly good people still left on this planet. During one of my most difficult times, when all other rescues talked down to me, turned me away and threatened me with the law if I gave up my animals, HAL helped me. I was jobless, on the verge of eviction and had no way of feeding or caring for my cats. My situation was difficult, yet they gave me hope, especially Michelle. No judgement was passed, I was not lectured or made to feel less of a human being because of my situation. She stood up for me when people were making cruel comments. She picked up my spirits. A true angel...HAL is FULL of angels......Thank you everyone, you're all very much a part of my heart! Love you all!

I have never found (and seriously) doubt I will EVER find such an organization that donates their time and energy tirelesly in the crusade to help homeless animals. They not only help locally, but have a network of amazing people to help an animal in need regardless of location, HAL will exhaust all efforts and resources until they can give a chance to sick, feral, homeless or even lost. When they aren't saving the animals of this world, they even offer useful education to anyone who may need assistance with question they may have with animal rescue and or care. HAL will ALWAY be my number one organization i donate to and if I have anything left when I die (: I will make sure something is left to them!!!

Since I first learned about Homeless Animal Lifeline I have been blown away by their amazing work. I have never known a group of more dedicated animal lovers, who put their whole hearts into every case. They do not rest until they're satisfied that they have done the absolute best for the animals, and they do it in the most organized, professional way, with kindness, love, compassion and determination. I have contacted Michelle on numerous occasions, with various problems and questions, and she has come through for me every time. When my family found a kitten in a parking lot, she found an adopter within 24 hours. She made it look effortless, though I know her plate was full and this was just one of thousands. One of the most impressive things is the way they network with so many groups, working together instead of against each other, to reach the most beneficial outcome for the animals. They never lose sight of their goal and most important mission- the well-being of the animals. There is no ego at play whatsoever. The animals come first, always. It's also heartwarming to see over and over again, how they step up for the animals most likely to be overlooked, and never turn their backs on seemingly hopeless situations. Clearly, in their eyes, every life is valuable and worthy of being treasured. Homeless Animal Lifeline is what rescue is meant to be, and they give me hope in the future of our furry friends.

I have known one member of HAL since 1998. At that time Michelle Dawn and I were saving one dog (me) and one cat (Michelle) a week. When we did that we did not stop we always went for the 2nd one. I have sat back and watched HAL unfold online and have realized they are truly dedicated to saving the voiceless. I do not see the drama in HAL that goes on in many rescue organizations. HAL has helped me with a couple of cats in the past that would not have had a chance. This has been done in the state of NC and I am in TN, so I think we can say their love for rescue knows no boundaries. I like the idea that they will often cross-post some dogs out of courtesy for people that support them. If more rescue organizations were more head strong in doing the rescuing and saving furbabies less the drama like HAL this would be a better world. You go HAL!!

HAL is a wonderful and exceptional organization. Their volunteers go above and beyond for ANY animal in need, even of they don't have the room for more animals or the money, animals in need still get the help from HAL. Some volunteers take these animals into their own home to treat them until they can be adopted or even until they are adopted. They are extremely passionate people with huge hearts and always put the animals first. They are excellent at online networking for animals in need at other shelters and strays as well. Very helpful and great with communication and working with the public. I can't express enough when I say they go above and beyond. Such amazing and loving people as well as inspiring. I highly recommend HAL to anyone and everyone, I love them!!

I also became aware of HAL through FB. I contacted them about trying to catch an injured feral cat. Even though I am way up here in Maine and HAL is in NJ, they gave me tips and suggestions and lots of support and advice and with their help ... I got him!! He is being treated for his injuries and is doing well. HAL has even offered to help with a plan to try to get him socialized so he can be an inside cat. If not, I will release him back into my yard and continue to feed him. At least he will be neutered and vaccinated thanks to the wonderful advice from Homeless Animal Lifeline! This is a wonderful organization with an unbelievable amount of compassion. I will always be grateful to them!

We love Homeless Animal Lifeline, because every penny that they raise goes directly to helping the animals. Michelle is tireless in her advocacy and never seems to stop helping out the kitties in any way she can, whether its supporting feral colony caregivers, getting vet care for injured animals, pulling cats from kill shelters and finding them great homes, and networking for transportation solutions, foster care etc. If she sees a problem, she will find a way to solve it - she is amazing. As just one example illustrates - this is a woman who spent her honeymoon handing out petfood and supplies to people who were hit by Sandy, rather than taking a well-deserved vacation.

We donate directly and also hosted a bake sale for HAL, and really enjoyed meeting all the volunteers and foster families that work with HAL. They're great people, who truly care about the animals, and are very conscientious, dedicated and responsible.

I cannot say enough good things about HAL. I love their approach, dedication and the way that they stretch all their donations to provide so much care for the animals they serve.

I have had the pleasure of helping out with Homeless Animal Lifeline's mission for spaying and neutering cats in New Jersey by transporting two cats to a low cost clinic for surgery. They were helping a woman in Northern NJ that had cats but couldn't afford to have them fixed. HAL picked up the tab and the woman was very grateful her cats wouldn't continue the cycle of more kittens! HAL is a great organization with dedicated volunteers who honestly care about the well-being of all animals and helping the community at large!

I became acquainted with HAL through their facebook page and their founding member, Michelle. For the past year or so, through pictures and stories, I have watched the tireless efforts of Michelle and her team and rooted for their success. During and after Hurricane Sandy, even though she had just gotten married and should have been on her honeymoon, Michelle exhaustively worked to bring supplies to Hurricane victims, both human and non-human, even using her own credit card when donations were short. I didn't see this amount of effort from anyone else... not even local and state government agencies who should have been at the helm of relief efforts. Another reason that I have nothing but admiration for HAL is that they are working for the underdog/cat. The sick, those who are deemed to be 'unsightly' (even though if you ask me, no one is 'unsightly') and the elderly. Not that they don't take in healthy and young animals as well. Everyone gets a fair chance and the respect that they deserve. Something that most of them never knew, their entire lives, up until HAL took them on. There is no discrimination with this organization. They have a great network of support, as well... from transports to fosters. Truly top-notch!

Homeless Animal Lifeline was invaluable in helping me rescue an abandoned cat from NYC's high kill shelter system. After I fell hard for a cat whose abandonment was posted far and wide on Facebook and Craig's List he was captured by NY Animal Control and taken to the Brooklyn Shelter. He had gained such notoriety by that point that there were a number of rescues and other adopters offering to take him in spite of his FeLV positive status. Michelle guided me on the best actions to get through the adoption process successfully and happily. Thanks to HAL I have a new family member and another on the way as well as a renewed desire to work with animal rescue organizations on a regular basis.

I guess as a "role" I would consider myself client served. HAL reunited a rescued kitty from my parents background with me after he went missing (aka trapped by animal control and brought to a kill shelter). I recognized the picture on HALS website, got in touch w/ Michelle to see if she can help get him, and within a few weeks he was mine (obviously as in indoor only cat no longer outside). Almost a year later, Bailey has made his place in life very clear. As a rambunctious, sweet almost 2 year old, I could not imagine him not being part of my "family" (he makes my 4th cat). If it wasn't for Michelle and the folks she works with this would not have been possible.

I became aware of the volunteers at HAL through a long time friend Michelle Marcus . She is never too tired to pick up kittens that need to be saved and then arranges for them to find forever homes. She will find foster homes until they are adopted. There is a special place in Heaven for all volunteers who donate their time and energy to animals in need as well as their own money. Homeless Animal Lifeline based in Manalapan, NJ, is a wonderful non-profit organization. They helped pull a litter of kittens that were about to be euthanized and I agreed to foster them but ended up keeping the one kitten who was healthy enough to survive. The organization's volunteers were very helpful and informative during this process. I believe that Homeless Animal Lifeline truly cares for animals and they do everything that they can to save distressed cats, dogs, and even wildlife. They pull hundreds of cats from high kill shelters and offer their help to trap and feed homeless cats all over the state. This organization spends thousands of dollars trying to give animals a better quality of life. Homeless Animal Lifeline is the best thing that could happen to an animal in need. The volunteers are amazing and true angels.

My mom feed the feral cats around her house. A new neighbor was trapping the cats and the animal control officer was shipping them off to be killed even though there is supposed to be a wait time. This was very upsetting to my elderly mom. HAL helped her by seeing that she got low cost neutering for the few that were able to be saved. Equally as important was that they were a compassionate resource when my mom had no one else to turn to for help. It is because of this that, years after this incident, I continue to donate to HAL. I know that the money and pet food go directly to help the animals.

Hard to choose a category, as I am a client, a donor and someone who has done rescue on their own for many years, although not a non profit.
There are many non profit groups out there now trying to help animals in need (which is a good thing)! But not many would compare to HAL! Their dedication, devotion and true love for the animals they save goes far beyond the call of duty.
I had the pleasure of adopting two kitties through them. Everyone was easy to communicate with, supportive and even arranged for transportation! I had my kitties within the week.
I have offered to adopt several cats that I had seen posted on Facebook before, and I am not sure if these rescue groups just cross post, or have their own network of people to foster and adopt, but each time I tried, I was unsuccessful.
Keep up the great work HAL, and never stop believing! You do the impossible and save the unwanted and unloved!

I've been a volunteer for HAL since 2004 and eventually became a Board Member. I don't mind devoting my time to this wonderful organization because I know the work we do literally saves lives. I've put my heart and soul into this group, as have all the volunteers, and will continue to do so as long as I'm able. The animals have always come first for us. We will fight for them and always be there voice. They are the reason we are here. HAL is celebrating its 10 year anniversary and former adopters have been sending in photos of their fur kids adopted through HAL. I remember every single face and story. The ones who stand out the most are the "hopeless cases" who have gone on to live long, happy, inspirational lives. These animals will always be a part of me! I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who is a part of HAL and those who support our work.

Homeless Animal Lifelife (HAL) is an all-volunteer 501c3 organization that not only rescues cats (and rabbits, dogs, ferrets, snakes and even fish!) from shelters and places them in homes where they will be loved, fed and kept warm for the rest of their lives, but they also tend to several feral cat colonies. They utilize the T/N/R (trap/neuter/release) method as a way to curb the populations. I believe in the hard work this organization does and the unwavering effort its volunteers put forth. In the two years that I have known about this rescue, I have donated several hundred dollars (I give what can, when I can) so they can continue doing the stellar work that they do, providing care for the ferals and pulling the cats that would otherwise be put to death due to injuries, sickness or FeLV or FIV positives, from shelters, getting them healthy and finding them the perfect home.

HAL is tireless and dedicated! I've noted on several occasions HAL reps posting urgent notices and information at all hours of the night, and on the biggest holidays of the year! They stop for nothing!!!

HAL is very professional. Their postings are worded professionally, and they provide pin-point follow-up on urgent situations, ongoing problems, and happy endings also!

My boyfriend and I help out our relatively new local rescue group in Northern NJ and found HAL online through communication with other rescue organizations in the NY/NJ Tri State Area. Because of HAL's experience and reputation, I have often asked HAL's leadership for consultation, networking assistance, guidance, etc. Team HAL has always been there for 24/7 regardless of who seeks them out. They have saved many cats, dogs, etc., through fostering, adopting, TNR programs and feral colony care. They are truly devoted to the care and protection of animals and are very friendly and easy to work with.

I love HAL. Almost 2 years ago I adopted a kitten from them which was rescued. They have been a constant help for me with my adopted cat gabe whenever needed. There is always someone available for my questions or concerns not only with Gabe but, also with my other two cats that I have had for years. We are planning on future adoptions and they will only be through HAL.

I have seen them time and time again go above and beyond helping animals nobody else wanted. The latest that I adore is an adorable senior named Max who languished for over a year at a shelter and is now happy and loved in foster.
