To address issues faced by women with children and survivors of domestic violence, we also offer family counseling and facilitation of legal services. Our partnerships with area hospitals and health centers allow us to bring people living with hiv/aids and other chronic conditions comprehensive care, services and support. We help clients stay connected by escorting them to appointments, visiting them at home if they are too ill to travel, and acting as their advocate.
basic needs: many people affected by aids struggle with poverty, in addition to medical and mental health issues. Alliance basic needs program provides daily meals, healthy food bags, clothes--including warm coats and business attire--and emergency assistance to pay bills. We also provide metrocards and childcare to help people on limited incomes access our services.
peer services: alliance's comprehensive peer-to-peer education & training program provides skills, opportunities, and services for active and recovering substance users, women, ex-offenders, and other at-risk, underserved subpopulations. Armed with skills and information, alliance peer educators provide high-risk communities throughout nyc with prevention education on hiv, substance use, hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections, along with support groups, escorts to doctors appointments and other key services. Trained peer educators receive paid internships and serve as inspiring examples of the possibility of change, helping others to initiate and maintain healthy behavior.
harm reduction and substance abuse counseling: alliance promotes long-term recovery by meeting people where they are on the recovery spectrum: active substance users, people newly entering recovery, and people with years of recovery behind them. To reduce the risk of hiv and hepatitis, alliance's full spectrum harm reduction services address needs of persons with substance use disorder by offering services across the recovery continuum from syringe exchange, to recovery readiness, relapse prevention and recovery support. In 2017, the lower east side harm reduction center merged up to become a program of alliance, contributing to alliance's comprehensive "one stop" harm reduction model of care, spanning from syringe exchange for active users to abstinence-based programs through oasas 822 licensure. Women's network: alliance offers an array of specialized services for women, including mental health counseling, recovery support, prevention education, and accompaniment to services. Many of the women we serve are survivors of domestic violence. To address trauma and other issues faced by women, we offer family counseling, support groups, and facilitation of legal services. Alliance also maintains a safe and supervised children's play area that enables women and families to access our services. Creative writing workshops & support groups: alliance creative writing and poetry workshops, support groups, recreational activities, and educational programs provide opportunities for self-expression, personal exploration, and social connection. Restoring the spirit and self-worth of our clients is integral to our approach of treating the whole person to enhance wellness and get them on the path to healing. Hiv counseling, testing, and referral services: with results in under an hour, alliance offers free, confidential hiv counseling, testing, and referral services to people at risk for hiv/aids in the community through collaborations with local hospitals, methadone maintenance centers, drug treatment facilities, homeless shelters, and income maintenance centers. Through workshops and one-on-one counseling, alliance helps people living with hiv/aids stick to treatments, manage side effects, communicate with doctors, and learn more about treatment options. Mental health services: alliance's onsite mental health services include individual, group, couples, family counseling, and coordination of care through a collaboration with the institute for family health.
