Has helped me immensely to understand problems with our laws in regards to climate change and environmental policies and gives me non-offerwhelming ways of helping.
There really isn't a story, rather a kudos to Environmental Defense! Without sustaining our environment, we won't have anything. I have read and learned (and donated when able) and subsequently done my part. My granddaughter is 8 years young and picks up litter on the streets (after which we assure a good scrubbing :-) and she does not hesitate to tell anyone - classmates, family members, anyone who will listen - why things should or should not be done! I share with her all that I have learned over the many years and implemented into my life to assure that when I am gone, she will remember and continue to save what we have.
Thank you for all you do for the animals and our world to make it a better, healthier, more productive place. Your tireless efforts do make a difference. It is an uphill battle but you continue to help the public see how important it is for all of us to take a part in making it better.
The Environmental Defense Fund and its organization has consistently been on the forefront of the issues that matter to the future of this planet and what we leave to the next generation. Protect the air, water and land that we and all life need to sustain us! I would recommend the support of the EDF to everyone.
This organisation is the perfect way for the very few to organise and become the voice of many thousands, I support almost 100% of the petitions and know that my small voice is joined by so many more that it has made a difference.
This is one of the first groups I have taken a part of that makes you realize you really can make a difference by signing a petition and expressing your opinion. Thank you EDF for all that you do!
Hi there. My name is Melissa. I would like everyone to know Environmental Defense cares so much for our people, earth and animals! Please support them in any way you can! Peace and Love to EVERYONE!
EDF has been influential in keeping me informed about important issues, and allowing me to have access to petitions I wish to sign. I am grateful for the opportunity they afford me to have my voice heard.
EDF fights the battle we as individuals couldn't do. They fight for clean air, protect animals & many other issues. I contribute monthly & hope you do too!
By trusted God to show you to help other from nonprofit. It the best i have seen they care about the environmental Defense try to get you help by suggest something. Cathy Riggs
I decided to get involved with the edf because I strongly believe that the environment is the most important thing that we must protect. Nature can survive without us but we can't survive without nature. That's why I wanted to join this organization to be someone that can make a positive impact on the environment.
EDF was captured more than a decade ago by neoliberal politics and economics leading to advocacy for private ownership of public trust resources. The organization responds to libertarian and conservative funding organizations and foundations in creating so-called "market based solutions" to air and water pollution, overfishing and depletion of marine fishing species and bycatch and protection, ignoring ecosystem integrity and the right of the public to manage and control the use and consumption of public trust resources. The organization supports austerity in the federal budget and opposes regulation by government trustees responsible for managing public trust resources on behalf of the public which actually owns them.
EDF has helped to keep me better informed on many different issues including those involving air pollution factors, concerns/problems with what goes into many of our foods, climate change and endangered animals.
Through my contact with EDF I have been able to directly get in touch with my congressman and senators and in return have received replies back from those elected officials letting me know my voice had been heard on issues that are important to me.
EDF provides a great insight into matters going on in our world that should concern us all but are not necessarily heard on the news or posted as a headline or a must read article on the internet.
This is amazing, great environmental stuff finally. Sticking it up to China and the U.S. Cause what's more important: The short term benefit of one species or the long term benefit of ALL species and the Earth. Do you want your children to live in a world tomorrow that is toxic and radioactive or a world that is at least livable.
EDF is one of the most responsible and focused of any of the many environmental organizations in the United States. It's work is supported by strong scientific evidence, and its efforts to educate the public are remarkably effective. Those of us who care about the environment should be at the front in supporting and endorsing EDF.
Not too many things in life bring instant and long-lasting satisfaction. Supporting EDF excels at doing both!! Support EDF and you will be doing something really good for this world we live in and make yourself feel really good at the same time.
for save the others life, aid them, give support and services required when necessary, we are present as non profit charity, as a means to whom reffer when necessities are more and high and one had not money. We do so for love and with love, searching to redone the will of smile, the will of live to more and do so gratuitely and not for gain. Surely we need money for our activity, but it is thanks people we may. We are here for alls have a situation of stress, of economic difficulty and say:ask us what you need, we are here for done answers. claudio alpaca
EDF wages battle on behalf of the planet against powers that individuals like me cannot face. I am grateful for EDF, and for its approach to environmental activism: scientific, legally defensible, and tenacious. EDF's ability to work with the "opposition" to deliver a win-win solution is impressive.
The Environmental Defense Fund is one of the two best advocates for the environment. The other is the Sierra Club. The EDF works tirelessly to identify problems, devise solutions and make the public aware of what is happening to our environment. I personally believe that we should be stewards of the Earth and EDF fits perfectly with my philosophy.
People who want to live a long healthy life will support EDF because their ultimate goal is to solve the world's serious environmental problems....climate change, toxic ocean water and agricultural growth, are at the top of the list . What's important is that EDF coordinates with the government and various businesses to analyze and find the best scientific, environmental, and economical solutions that our planet is facing. Every US state and country should coordinate with EDF to find out the latest discoveries and changes, provide information, and contribute monetarily. I think of EDF as a non-spiritual God.
It's killing everything we need to keep our world healthy. To the world out there it is now time to act. If you sit back and wait to see what the future brings that will be one big mistake. Wake up have a coffee then call out. Reach out to those who are in charge of our country. Tell them they have to protect our oceans, rivers and streams. They need to act quickly to save us from disaster. Reduce carbon emissions and noxious fumes from escaping into our air destroying our ozone. Stop spraying our land with chemicals. Wake up people wake up
If you want to support climate change avoidance practices, wildlife and sustainability on planet Earth, then look no further than the Environmental Defense Fund. Your one stop shop for clean air, water & wildlife protection.
EDF is an outstanding organization advocating for all issues from global warming, alternative energy sources, wildlife extinction, etc. EDF covers the entire spectrum of the environment
EDF is a passionate nonprofit that continually keeps me informed on important environmental news. They make it really easy to not only stay informed, but to also take action. Their recommended letters to senators and members of congress are a great way to voice your opinion. I know that my one letter doesn't matter, but if enough of us send them it makes an impression. Strength in numbers! I highly recommend joining EDF in their fight to make our planet better.
If it wasn't for your web-site like others, most people in the World probably wouldn't really know how much Mother-Nature changes? The creatures of the Earth really need help from the acknowledgement that we all do really Care! Thanks for listening,......
Environmental Defense Inc provides a great way to keep involved with today's environmental issues, as well as express your own opinions.
Studied many other options before joining the EDI. Organization, depth of leaders, focus of purpose and available resources all played a big part in my decision. EDI can make a difference with your help.
Please join and participate.
Craig Domin
As a steward for the ENVIRONMENT it is a honor for me to recommend this nonprofit called EDF. I praise the scientific approach used by EDF to restore our environment for the sake of all living entities !
May God bless America and EDF !
I started contributing to the EDF several months ago. Growing up in a small town surrounded by National Forest, as a kid I always just assumed that everyone lived in small towns with natural beauty and abundant resources around them. However, the more I learn about the rest of the world, the more acutely aware I become of the fact that mankind's industrious nature is causing severe damage to our life support system. As far as we currently know, we are the only planet with abundant, highly diversified life- yet we seem to be set on destroying it as fast as we can.
It is immensely reassuring to read the reports from the EDF about their multifaceted approaches to solving major environmental problems. Instead of an adversarial attitude, the EDF is working with peoples, governments, and corporations to show them a more efficient way to continue their ways of life while simultaneously slowing- and eventually reversing- the damage they inflict on the environment. I am hopeful that this trend will not only continue, but expand exponentially across the planet towards a better future for both humans and the planet. We are but a link the in the chain, and cannot survive without abundant plant and animal life around us.
EDF does what is needed to preserve the flora and fauna of our only world against those who would despoil the planet for greed and profit. As the world's population increases, there will continue to be pressure on finite resources which cannot be replaced. Whole animal species are becoming extinct due to the activities of man and continuous and concerted efforts are needed to preserve what remains.
Africa is suffering from overpopulation and drought which is causing pressure on animal species that are being hunted and poached for "bush meat" and their body parts. Large areas of the Amazon rainforest are being destroyed for timber, mining, and grazing land for non-native species. The rainforest is an essential component of our climatic ecosystem and will lead to disastrous consequences for future generations if not controlled.
Physicist Stephen Hawking estimates that the human species will not last for another hundred years at the rate we're despoiling the planet through wars and exploitation.
EDF is remarkable in all that they to and stand for. I'm proud yo be affiliated with them and will continue to back them and give any support I can for as long as I am able. They fight the good fightbfor so many that don't even realize their lives are bettered because of what EDF does. Thanks for all you do and god bless, Rob
Any time after a foundation like this one can move the people and the government forward to resolving our environmental problems it is a great step forward for our planet.
EDI is a wonderful nonprofit organization! It exceeds my expectations of what an effective nonprofit organization is capable of.
Found this site through other similar organizations. EDF does a fantastic job on handling very tough issues. GOOD JOB
EDF helps me know the most important environmental causes that I don't have time to research. It's research based with much of the latest first sources in science, agriculture and technology to help make decisions about causes to act on. I enjoy its easy to understand features and the in depth stories and resources to check into. It also allows me to act on impacting the politicians who are and are not making the causes I care about.
I am writing this review with limited experience with the EDF. In fact, I just joined the EDF, but every petition I have seen so far aligns with the most pressing global issues for future generations in preserving the precious balance of the ecosystem. As modern industrial and "postindustrial" nations, we still live in a world that exists through the natural environment's generosity in allowing us humans to inhabit its space. And we have disrupted this environment with such rapidity and ferocity that I fear for the immediate generations to follow. Now, I recognize that I have not directly addressed the EDF in its specific causes, but I believe I am addressing the importance of the kind of work that the EDF does because many people do not consider the damage we do to the balance of the environment even in terms of all biological, geological, chemical, and natural organisms and elements that are necessary for maintaining the world for future generations. The EDF, for me, is focused on these oft-ignored, crucial aspects of the environment.
EDI helps me stay connected with the single most important issue that needs attention by our politicians and society. It provides me with up to date and focused information about action I need to take, and makes it easy for my voice to be heard to my representatives. I really appreciate it.
I am a Registered Nurse of nearly 34 year's and a Huge a
Animal Advocate. Donate, sign petitions, do whatever it takes to help save all animals. They cannot speak for themselves but we can. Make a Difference !!!
They keep very up-to-date on the latest environmental issues and send out alerts to the public on events happening which affect the entire world around us. Climate change is real and they are doing all they can to stop the on-going pollution of our air, water, and land so that we can slow down and negate the effects of climate change.
Thank you for your great work !
Sincerely, Greg Ellsworth, Portland, Oregon
The EDF site has brought many issues to my attention, things that I wouldn't have been made aware of.Just want to say a big THANK YOU&keep me informed with the things that matter to me.
EDI has made it tremendously easy to assist in supporting and preserving our environment. Respect is returning for our life supporting Mother Earth--who loves and supports our very intimate life's needs.
~To Mother Earth our Love, Blessings and Gratitude for her continuing unconditional support of our Life with Love. Thank you grand Mother!~ALC
Just another person out here trying to get it figured out.
This movement gets me in a better mood each time It pops up with organized, realistic, ways to do something for the greater good.
I can't say I have done the most, but having the ability to quickly make my mark on problems we do indeed face, has been a pleasure to say the least.
Our world is unique and we only have one of them.
We should work together to take care of her rich soil if we want to continue to benefit from her.
Keep up the good work, Ill voice my opinion to help as much as i can.
Thank you
Ilove you all for everything you do for so many beings, both people and our precious animals as well as the environment . Could'nt imagine life without you wonderful dedicated people.Thank You,GOD Bless You All.XXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOO
Highly rated charity per the Charity Navigator website spends the bulk of its funds protecting the environment. A lot of bang for the buck.
By virtue of the existence of the Environmental Defense Fund, not only are we being informed of non-useful, harmful and crucial events and trends, but we are given an organized forum in which to participate, voice our opinions, and exert positive changes.
Not all causes are on the same level of importance to all of us, but the Environmental Defense Fund provides a much-needed, ongoing-base of information.
It is imperative that we stand together to fight for a cleaner and healthier planet for our children and their children. EDF is on the front line fighting that battle each day and we all need to stand with them. I'm proud to be a donor and wish I could do more.
I think that EDF is a great non-profit who makes it easy to let our Congressmen/women know how we feel with what they are doing or not doing for the environment. We should all take a part in this cause as it affects us all at some level. If animals or plants go extinct we all lose and eventually we will be the endangered species. I hate to see any animal whether land or sea be abused in any way. Thank God we have organizations that care and are willing to put in the work to make our voices heard.
This non-profit group far exceeds my expectations. I first learned about learned about the policies the EDF is advocating for on the site: change.org , and I was thoroughly amazed. Their attention to the details that our planet and our world are facing right now because of pollution and global warming in general is exceptional and I hope they keep up the great work. .The quality of work they do everyday blew my mind and I hope I can contribute more to their organization over the years. I am currently a first-year in college at the University of Washington: Bothell and am planning on eventually majoring in Environmental Studies (BA). I hope someday, I can come together with these great people and help them shape the future on conserving and saving this planet in the near future. Thank you.
I am both concerned and disturbed by the many chemicals and "toxins" in our foods and environment. Having a super-sensitive reaction to preservatives and many of the dyes used to "better color" our foods, I appreciate The Environmental Defense Fund and their HARD work to make changes and "move mountains"!
Our planet and its countless life forms need more protection than ever before. Human civilization puts enormous pressure on formerly pristine environments. Those habitats and their inhabitants in distress require our protection and support.
I believe that EDF steps in and up to this important task. As a concerned human being I am very grateful for the efforts EDF is making to preserve all the precious life that is now in jeopardy.
I think this non-profit is focused on the right things...how people affect the environment and how the environment affects people.
And focusing on improving the quality of life for everyone and the planet itself.
Having followed the tremendous effort of Environmental Defense Inc. I must say that I can not think of a more worthy cause than defending our environment. The Environment is something that we ALL have in common, and we all must work together to have a safer, cleaner environment. Thank you, for all that you do!
This is a great forum for interacting with a concerned community. Supporting this nonprofit is a joy, they enable you to make your voice heard with so many other caring ones.
EDF is an excellent advocate for the environment and the creatures that thrive there, including humans. If you can spare some cash, they'll put it to good use.
EDF always has their finger on the pulse to fight for change to protect. EDF is a true friend and fights for the rights of our planets' animals, climate and overall environment. Thank you EDF.
I feel we need leaders in everything in life .People need a push and a pull when comes to correcting the wrongs in life..your service has the potential to follow through with important issues of the environment.I've been there at the jobs sites contaminated with chemicals in the 70's,80's whereas the companies owner's do not care for the welfare of the workers'health or even their families..i know first hand how important it is to clean up the environment!Your service is a great platform to deal those issues..We need a heavy finger to point at the ways of those responsible for environmental breakdown..Thank You...Dwayne J.Olds
hi i'm Ariel hall a person from Huntsville Alabama. i love to help protect the worlds environments, now you may be thinking another 28 or 38 year old person..... but i'm not i'm 10 years old and i believe the planet needs protecting. no i may not have money, but i do have believe. and that's what matters if you decide to look up random sites on your computer and find this don't go back cause you don't have money stay because the world needs help............
signed, Ariel
This is an organization that isn't afraid to fight against corporate greed in the U.S. for real environmental protections, and make that which is in the greater good for the future of all species, most especially ours, known to those who make decisions. I would gladly donate money to them, as I could afford, and would encourage anyone who can to support them whole heartedly!
There may be some things we can afford to experiment with as a civilization, but our one and only habitable planet is NOT one of them. We shouldn't leave planet Earth as a place where only the 1% are wealthy enough to survive for our children... that is one of the great moral imperatives of our time!
EDF is fantastic. They're doing great things for the world, and they make it so easy to take part in change. If you're on their email list, they'll send you links to petitions to sign, letters to send, and donations to make that they think you'll be interested in. It's so easy, And it feels good to know that you're being a part of the change that is happening.
I appreciate the work of the committed folks at EDF. I read about their efforts and am informed at the very least and, most often, moved by the importance of the causes that they pursue. I'd like to thank the organization -- and the individuals -- for their hard work and perseverance.
Environmental Defense Fund is a wonderful organization committed to keeping our Earth and it's inhabitants safe and healthy. I'm a proud supporter of EDF and you should be too!!! WE ALL SHARE THIS EARTH, OUR HOME, WE ARE ALL CONNECTED!!! PROTECT OUR EARTH AND ALL ITS SPECIES AND HABITATS!!!
Environmental Defense Fund is great! Their efforts to protect animals are great! We need swarms o f these little activist groups because politics is corrupt and nothing will happen without continued pressure from the grassroots level, and on the ground help to animals!
EDF is informative snd thinks the way I do. They look out for the enviroment and its inhabitants. Good organization. Giving the right amount of e-mail and not overdoing it. Thanks, Garett
I, Peter Makwanya, I am an environmental advocate and communicator resident in Zimbabwe. I fight for environmental justice. I would like to appeal to the rich nations who are responsible for polluting the earth not to use language to manipulate poor nations while at the same time concealing their actions. I also appeal to poor countries, especially the developing world to take climate change seriously rather talk about it when they are receiving donations. If the developing countries are not serious about the fast changing environment then they are not being fair to their people who are highly vulnerable and ill- equipped to fight effects of climate change. Lastly, I would want to appeal to the rich and polluting nations to make climate change an environmental problem rather than a political one for their self-serving interests.
As someone who is deeply passionate about protecting the environment and the creatures that call it home, I am proud to say that I am a member of the Environmental Defense Fund. Their call to actions are always at the top of my list of concerns and they make it so easy with the click of a button to contribute to petitions and with donations.
The EDF is an amazing organization set to helping the environment stay a clean and healthy place but also busting the incorporations that work to make it a disastrous world. I fully support the EDF and recommend you do too.
Environmental Defense Incorporated (EDF) is one of the easiest ways to get involved in making a difference for our communities, oceans, wild life, environment and planet. Not only do they make it easy to send meaningful letters to those who can help make a difference with policy changes, but they make it super easy to donate to the causes you care about the most.
I always take a few minutes to get involved. Most of the time it takes less than five minutes to make your voice count. Get involved today!
This organization is a source of hope in what unfortuantely appears to be a dark hour for environmental protection sometimes. The men and women of Environmental Defense Incorporated labor tirelessly to help ensure the safety of our enviornment and in turn the safety of our survival as a race as well. They constantly remind lawmakers that the protection of hundreds of ecosystems is also what the signed up for when taking office. Support Environmental Defense Incorporated.
I am unable to send monetary contributions to EDF or anybody else, but I stand behind them in their work in any way I can, and I highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in the environment, in wildlife, and in the well-being of our planet.
I feel that all of the work that the wonderful people at the EDI do is to be commended and everyone should be doing more!!! We are going to drain our environment dry if we dont respect and appreciate it!!!! Keep up the great work EDI!!! :o)
THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT GIVE US A VOICE, ITS SO MUCH MORE TO DO AROUND THE WORLD, WE CAN DO THIS, ONE DAY AT A TIME UNTIL WE HAVE VICTORY. TO MAKE THIS EARTH A BETTER PLACE FOR ALL THINGS LIVING.
I support the EDF because it gives me an opportunity to support those who are fighting for our environment. Without organizations like EDF people like me would not have a way to stand against the big money interests who are determined to exploit the natural resources of our earth at the expense of complex ecosystems and the animals who live in them. Eventually it affects the standard of living of people as well, because the more we destroy the earth the more we threaten all life on the planet.
I appreciate everything you do for people like me, to help protect our environment. I find myself very busy and do not have the resources to fight against environmental destruction, which I see everywhere. It is an uphill battle, but with organization's like EDF, we might have a chance. Thank you, John Phipps
I found this charity on the internet, After researching them, I found them to be a magnificent organization. As the intelligent life forms on our planet, we have a responsibility to protect our environment and the other creatures that occupy our precious eco system No one is doing more, or doing a better job to help save and protect our world. I am proud to stand with them. I hope you will too!
I will give it more stars once I research more. but my initial question is what are you doing for the obvious trash management problem that is spreading throughout NYC? I am creating a non profit to battle this problem. I will be inspiring our youth to get out and clean their community and realize it is a problem and not something to walk past as you try to make a living or visit NYC.

I am a 52 year old disable individual. I often wonder what causes most of the illness that we see today not only here in the U.S.A. but world wide. Yes, it is said that natural disasters such as floods, Hurricanes, tornados and earthquakes along with volcanic eruptions; these things due indeed contaminate the earth, air, and water BUT, there is only one true source of pollution in my opinion and that is industries and mankind. In the past 200 years alone we have destroyed millions of species of creatures, land , safe drinking water, and our oceans, and skies. We as human dump more toxic waste into our lands with then affect or drinking water and land we are able to dwell on.The food we grow and land and harvest from the sea has a lot of contaminates in it and on it. BUT, Our governing bodies say are safe for human consumption. The Environment Defense fund incorporated and all other non profit organization are just trying to rein in the and repair the damage already done. We as people who love our lands, our homes, our countries, and our families, and escpeicially EARTH. We need people in government who understand that we as humans are tired of taking second place to the bottom line and Profit margins. WE need people in office who will try and respect our wishes our wonderful world before we destroy it beyond repair.
there is and old saying handed down in my family"WHAT YOU PUT INTO THE LAND, AIR,AND WATER SHALL ALWAYS COME BACK UNTO YOU." so please help edf and many other non profit organization save our lives and the lives of our little ones
I suffer from chronic illness, and since I have realized the chemicals in my enviroment have a lot to do with it. So I went out a mission to try to do anything I could to take action and help. With all of us together our voices will be heard! I enjoy this site so much and I truly feel like I'm doing good for the entire world and our community. Let's stand together and take action! Together we can change our world and do good!
What is it about your life you like? Good health, clean air, access to parks, healthy forests and ecosystems, an abundance of unpolluted natural resources, happy families that include all your favorite pets, farm animals, a sustainable climate? Fortunately, our world has some great nonprofit organizations working on all of our behalf to keep our world safe and sustainable. Scientists, econonmists, policy makers and volunteers work together as part of the Environmental Defense Fund to promote the health and well-being of all natural systems. Because all life depends on the health of these systems, is it time to care a little more? It's simple. Today, you can become a member of one of these great nonprofits such as the Environmental Defense Fund!
I donate nearly all mpoints I make through my physical fitness routine to the EDF. Through an app called Nexercise, which is equally great i'll add, I came across this charity and it scores well with Charity Navigator and Trust pilot review sites. I look forward to increased pro environmental -reform programs and will do whatever I can to help.

The EDF supports many worthwhile causes in behalf of keeping our planet healthy and safe for many generations to come.
The Environmental Defense fund is not narrow in its focus on environmental issues. I believe this puts the fund on the cutting edge of a spectrum of needs, in terms of preservation and conservation, as well as the identification and solution of emergent issues. It is an excellent conduit for information regarding environmental needs.
It is as simple as this: We have one environment that we live in. It is getting degraded and smaller as we get larger. We must get back to our roots. We must relearn to live in our environment not on it. The truth of this is now self-evident. So let's be honest and learn to do so. It's the only way; so this fact always requires first attention in any argument or debate.
Environmental Defense Incorporated exemplifies a genuine and a focused and proactive concern for humanity and for the quality of life today and for generations to come.
Thank you,
Paul G. Rizzo

I'm really not sure what to say. Of all the advocacy groups I have become a part of, yours has the most diversity of issues that desperately need to be addressed and I admire the fight you give on behalf of them all. You are true heroes and I feel privileged to do whatever I can to help. Thanks. Jacque Marshall
I support EDF because they stay true to their word. If you want straight from the hip environmental information then EDF is a nonprofit you should look in to.
My husband and I are always looking for ways to help get our environment, our planet, our home on track for the future. We found out our planet actually needs a lawyer, or two, or three!! There is no better way to supplement the work of charitable, nature or wildlife organizations that help our planet , than by supporting those that take up the torch in the courts. Environmental Defense Fund Inc. is one of those top-notch "defenders" of our planet, our home.
Environmental Defense Fund is a no-nonsense, science based, on-the-ground advocate for our environment. I am proud of EDF's many accomplishments, from working with McDonalds way-back-when to replace their styrofoam hamburger boxes, to holding oil companies responsible for their devastating spills, and, most recently, for working with the Chinese government to get them on board with essential efforts to prevent global warming. I sleep better at night knowing that I am a part of EDF's efforts to create a greener, cleaner world for myself, my children and grandchildren, and all the innocent wild creatures of this amazing planet we call home.
You mention activity in the EU, but I found no details on your website !
As a UK national and resident, what are you doing in EU, including UK ?
John Bassendine
So many of us stand by and allow our world to be used wrongly by those who should know better. The folks at EDF are the few who care for the many.
I am a 100% disabled two tour Vietnam Combat veteran. I came back and got a Ph. D. so I could teach the horrors our Imperial Power is seducing our young, as it did myself, to impose upon the world's innocent people and the planet. Unfortunately for me, my teaching career was stopped cold by sudden onset of and permanent and total incapacitation with PTS; this has prevented me from teaching in a formal institution due to the social stigma attached to folks the government calls heroes while leaving us frevented from and alienated from professional occupations. I have dedicated my life to taking action and teaching where I can, usually with individuals, and also with trading stories of "what brought you to this work." Most contacts are much younger, eager to learn from the experienced and educated, and willing to make heroic efforts to achieve what needs achieving. And they need all the help they can get. EDF is one of the very few organizations that is interested only in doing what needs to be done, and in guiding those who need the guidance to taking the most urgently needed action precisely when it is most likely to be effective.
I admit my stomach churns with someone calling me a hero. What is heroic about having your society and government seduce and then rape one's innocent and pure patriotism? What is heroic about being reduced to a violent warrior trained and pushed into situations where survival requires of one the violent demolition of innocent peoples and their cultures? What is heroic about being seduced into destroying the planet just so a few insanely and irresponsibly wealthy psychopaths can steal a few more billions from society's most destitute, impoverished ahd dispossessed?
Be that as it may, Iunderstand that is not what EDF means to tap into, and elicit from the veterans of the Imperial terrorism the US Government imposes upon the world's innocent and the planet's life. EDF is rightfully pointing out to the young and innocent that they are indeed taking up a non-violent and noble path against all that is rotten and corrupt in this very empire. For this EDF needs all the help they can muster.
Thank you for hearing me out.
Sincerely,
Walter J Smith

Great source of independent non partisian information and a go to resource regarding products harmful to humans, animals & the environment
As you may know, the world is under constant attack to it's ecosystems whether by megacorporations or uninformed individuals. Environmental Defense is one of a handful of organizations that is actually doing something about it. By informing the public to the latest problems and suggesting possible solutions ED has been quite helpful in giving us a way to combat the tragedy that seems to be occurring on a daily basis. If you are concerned with the plight of our planet I strongly suggest joining ED and supporting them in any way possible.
I believe EDF is the premier environmental organization in the country/world. The scope of their involvement is truly amazing. Keep up the good work.
You are the voice for anyone who doesn't have the time, energy, funds or experience to address major issues of our planet that we believe in and feel devoted to. Thank you so much for helping us to take a path that shares the important necessities to help and save our planet.
They dont ask for money constanty like other environmental non-profs, clearly they have everyones best interests at heart.
EDF is a very dynamic and effective organization that acts to protect this planet for the lives which depend upon it. I highly recommend it as a worthwhile donation organization!
I am disabled so the volunteer work that is very important to me is something that I can no longer physically accomplish. EDF allows me to continue to contribute. They bring issues to my attention that I was not aware of and then make it possible for me to make a contribution. Thank you EDF
It's a relief to know there are people out there who are fighting for our concerns and wellbeing!! That's all I can can say is thank you
The first I heard of EDF was approximately 9 to 12 years ago. I had recently moved to the Desert and I was making way better money at that time. I was on my desktop or looking at emails and something caught my eye regarding being of service to Wildlife. It was EDF. I sent some money and I became a member. I started getting the EDF news magazine in my mailbox and like the first one I received had a picture of a Fed Ex truck and an article talking about all Fed Ex trucks are now powered with alternative fuels. I though that was very, very cool. There were additional articles about saving Polar Bears and other Wildlife and I said to myself these people are on it. They think like I think. I started donating more and getting numerous plush animals and other EDF gear. I still have your original black colored grocery bag, which I use constantly. I love that bag and the statement it makes when I carry it through my local Trader Joes or elsewhere. I also have the original black colored baseball cap with white lettering but, that hat has seen better days in the past. I cannot gather enough dollars to send for a new one but one of these days soon, I hope to send some money for a new one. In closing, in my past when I actually worked and money was more prevalent in my life I found other Environmental and Wildlife organizations that I donated to. At that time I felt I was doing my part and perhaps making a small difference for the defenseless and the pure innocence of our environment. I probably belong to 8 or 10 additional organizations. I am not sure if I still do belong because lack of contributions but when money comes my way again, soon, I will make my stand and be part of once more. Of all the organizations I belong to or have belonged to EDF is the king of making the effort, going to court, being on the front of so many different Environmental and Wildlife causes and ultimately being of service to what God has given us that is beautiful, pure and free in our time of living. Thanks for this opportunity. Pass.
The Environmental Defense Fund, since 1967, has been committed to the environment, working across many disciplines to solve problems. 84% of donations go directly to program services. Go to their website, www.edf.org to read about some of their success stories.
I'm still getting my feet wet in respect to learning all about EDI; what it stands for and how it works. So far I'm excited to have participated in petition signing and letters to Congress. I look forward to helping make a difference. Thank you EDI for making that possible.
I love the Environmental Defense fund. They keep me up to date on their projects and I can see their dedication to the environment and animals.
I donated money to there charity,And I tried to contact them and no reply ever,I can't request a refund because they won't reply back.I tried Facebook,There contact form,Google plus no answer.I think there program is a Scam,End of story.

In this day and age we must push, sometimes drag ourselves forward. LDF is so crucial to this task. If this World is truly to strive for moral clarity, justice and a clean beautiful climate; it is imperative to have a dedicated non-profit organization pushing us on. Even when odds are against you, your and our hope is an organization we can count on. YOU and your staff. Thank you for your commitment to those that have no VOICE!
As A child I grew up in the hill of the Boot-hills of S.E. Missouri,My grandparents had a home with 20 Acres of woods all around us.we were mostly green user with heat and cooking on the grill mostly all summer.Plus Pops(My fathers' Father)was a Butcher for most of his life,so we would process our own meats, such as Deer,Squirrels,Rabbits,Chickens,w/their eggs,Pork,or Hogs as we called them, and plenty of cattle,it wasn't always hamburgers nice thick Juicy Steaks and of course the cows milk, make our own cream and butter,GRan-Ma would even make her own soap out of the pig skins and we get eat the cracklings for a Snack,Nothing went to waist,we grew everything in the garden then canned and preserve all the fruits and vegetables. we would even save the skins and sell them back to the leather companies, and store the blood from the slaughters to make a Catfish bait.yea even go fishing 3 to 4 times a week so we always had plenty of fish.with all the carbons polluting are earth today.I am against pollutions.SO I AM A GREENOLIGIST.lets take our planet back and go back to the old ways of living live our means and not our needs.I never needed when I was a young man.I had everything I needed then.
Sometimes the only things that help me get through is an organization of people who love the earth and its living things as much as I. The EDF is that "thing"; it lets me know that there are people who care about our beloved planet and its living creatures and plants and that brightens days when I see so many animals killed on our roadways, poachers getting their quarry for a few lousy dollars with no thought to the animal they just poached from their life, and all the other horrors that go on around us every day. I feel they appreciate me as one who has saved many living wild things in my journeys out in the woods and/or along the roadsides. We must help them to survive too.
EDF is a best way for a person who can help the Planet in many ways, fighting for animals, climate change, the deforestation of trees, and the environment all over the World. I am very passionate about saving the World and all of it's living creatures, plants and the Oceans. Many of us do not have the time to sit and read all these articles on the Planet and it's living things. EDF will tell us the most important items in the World and we can change anything and everything just by choosing what we want to focus on.
I care passionately about the environment. Environment is a word that covers so much: it is basically Our Collective Life on Earth and when we say we care for the environment we say I want to live, I want to breathe, I want animals on land and sea to be with us, I want that land and sea and air to be cared for acknowledging its preciousness. I mean this sincerely. I rely on this great organization to give me the low-down on what is happening out there. I really can act and I can make a difference simply because EDF keeps me informed and I can do the support work whether it is signing print or online petitions or giving a little to go along with what other concerned citizens give. Together is the word. Together we add up and we can be incredibly effective in making a difference.
Many of us just don't have the time to follow all the things that are happening regarding the destruction of the environment. The EDF fulfills a much needed service to those of us that are deeply interested in saving the environment from corporate greed and environmental messes. Thank You!!
EDF is one of the best ways that a person can help our planet in so many ways. We are all obligated to help fight the issues today that will effect generations to come and EDF is here to help with these issues. Thank You EDF for being there for all of us and for those generations to come.
I am always very happy to vote for these important petitions on issues that affect the whole world and every living thing in it. Please keep up the great work on everyone's behalf, we are grateful!
EDF is instrumental in fighting for limiting climate change as much as possible, as well as helping protect endangered species; I cannot thank them enough for their leadership role.
If someone had asked me what EDF was a few months ago, I would have simply given them a quizzical look. However, if somebody asked me what EDF was now, my response would be an organization that ambitiously strives for the greater good of the link between humans & the environment.
I just want to say that without these fine folks at EDF, many causes would not reach their full potential. It is very gratifying to know that there are still good people on this earth looking out for all living things including our planet Earth. And yes, even the Earth is a living "thing"-just as you and I live and breathe, so does our planet and its just nice to know that all animals, including the planet have a voice that speaks for them and fights for their rights.
I had not heard of EDF before a couple of months ago. I had been leafing through the internet about our environment, and other things that were and are near and dear to my heart. I came across EDF and looked into them and what they had been and are doing to better our environment. They go that extra mile that so many do not and are not willing to go. Thank you! I may not always be able to donate money to a cause but I can put my name on a petition or write a specific government official, and they keep me informed of these issues. Thank you again for going that extra mile and holding your feet to the proverbial fire for all of us and our planet.
A healthy and happy environment is simply just the right goal to strive to exceed! But it goes much further than that: it's saving endangered species and protecting the environment in which they live while balancing the challenge of the BIG polluters like carbon, sugar and methane, it's holding major manufactures and retailers to higher standards AND effective communication. It's people just like me and you! So take a moment however brief it may be, you count too!!!!
Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with all the issues that are bombarding our environment. I am especially concerned about our natural resource, water. It is essential to all life, and yet everywhere we turn it seems that fracking and other for profit practices are polluting our precious resource.
I cannot on my own make a difference and bring about change for the betterment of our environment. That is why I support the Environmental Defense Fund. They are bringing about changes for the good of our environment, such as the water returning to the dry Colorado River basin. This miracle came about through the efforts of EDF working with conservationists in Mexico and the U.S.
On the issue of fracking, the EDF was instrumental in bringing about a group of environmentalists and some of the countries biggest energy companies to work together to improve the safety of natural gas operations. The Center for Sustainable Shale Development (CSSD), represents a breakthrough in the war over fracking. These companies have agreed to voluntarily support some tough new standards for fracking in the Northeast.
There are many other environmental issues that are tackled by the EDF, and I am proud to support them in the good work that they do on behalf of our fragile environment and for all of us on the planet.
this is a charity the works very hard for our environment I think any person that works with this charity will be very happy like I am, thank you for all the hard work that you have done to help save our environment!
EDF is a leading force in ensuring that the planet's precious resources are preserved for future generations.
The EDF provides a wonderful way to actively participate in our environmental community and stop organizations from harming it. It is so important to dedicate ourselves to create a clean, sustainable world in which wildlife and humans are in harmony, and I think that EDF is the perfect organization to help make that happen.
The EDF is the transformation that the world needs in order to fight climate change, pollution, protect endangered species, and so much more. I am glad to help out to promote this organization and help out with their projects. I am also joining the Coast Guard which is so much more than a military branch it also helps protect the maritime environment and protect marine species which is great for something that's military and many people do not know that the military also protects the enivronment . It is time for the world to regrow the world to its original glory of a clean planet which is what we will do.
It's so unfair to keep destroying the one who gave us life.
Capitalism and the lack of knowledge is our end.
More people should join EDF in order to help the earth. Therefore, to help every organism living in the earth. We are all connected in one way or the other and the earth is one with us.
The EDF is a vital necessity in our world today. Amidst the vast changes that we experience environmentally, the EDF has the expertise and know how to keep us informed and the hands on involvement that's so crucial for a brighter future for all.
I like how EDF realizes that we must work for the transformation of the business sector to combat global warming, rather than just alienate that community through blame and condemnation. EDF understands how to show that sustainability IS good business. Through amazing science and creative thinking, their work is on the cutting edge of a clean energy economy which reflects its true costs and benefits regarding human and planetary well being.
To deal with the problems of difficult settlement or solution in the world, new paradigms of growth, power, wealth, work and freedom must be embedded into the cultural, educational, social, political and economical institutions, considering an integrated ecosystemic approach assembling politics, economics, culture, education, environment, health, ethics and overall quality of life as fundamental aspects of the project of change.

Will you please join us in the fight to keep our environment livable for all of Gods given life. Thank you.
The Enviromental Defense Incorporated is not afraid of a fight and they never back down when the cause id good.
I am always looking at wasy I can help not only the environment, but all of us as well.EDF is one of the best orginizations that is on the front lines, fighting for all of us!
EDF brings to the attention of the public petitions that make a difference. It is a way to make our voice heard in a world that is growing deaf thru greed. Reading and learning about what is going on has become a important for trying to stop those who would sneak by our line of sight to stop them.
I have been a strong supporter of the Environmental Defense Fund for many years. I know that every donation, large or small, is used to protect and preserve what's left of the natural world each and every day. I trust them implicitly. The EDF strengthens environmental legislation and fights for the enforcement of current laws and gives voice to those without choice or status when justice has been lost to corporate greed and power.
You can't do better than EDF!
Rev Beverly Lewis
EDF gets the government to pull through on the clean air act and other laws in place to protect our environment ant ultimately all of us. EDF fights for clean air and water. What could be more important than that? They are fighting for life on earth as we know it.
I have found that with EDF, NRDC, Greenpeace, PETA, LCV, EARTHJUSTICE the most critical aspect of their poignancy and relevance in the sustainability world is their ability and willing ness to be proactive and inclusive of all forces toward renewals and sustainability and gently INFUSING the issue of CHANGE toward renewals into the social networks. ACTIVISM, ONLINE OPPORTUNITIES ARE MOST HELPFUL TOWARD THIS END AS ARE UPDATES OF SUCCESS STORIES IN THESE EFFORTS!!!
As an environmental advocate and activist, I have found the Environmental Defense Fund to be an engaged and effective partner in the mission of raising environmental consciousness and bringing positive change to reality. As a media specialist and journalist, I appreciate and use EDF's up-to-date news on relevant issues and current linked action alerts that spread the call for change, as well as readily engage political representatives to bring real change to life. The EDF deserves the support of your time, talent and treasure as the important work for the environment continues.

EDF provides those of us who may feel less than able to make a real difference to step up and change the world anyway! Their work truly is for the common good. I recently heard someone say that if you want to create abundance in your own life, then create it for someone else. Participating with EDF is a terrific way to do that! The work they do is creating abundance for everyone who lives on this planet.
If you want to see change in this world we live in than you need to find the organization charity to help make changes not only for us for our children and generations to come so that we leave the earth in a condition that is acceptable for them and also teach our future generations to stand for the right things in life
Hi, my name is Tammy Ellis and I have been with EDF,for two years. EDF helps with a variety of changes.
That includes, helping endangered ANIMALS, talking to CONGRESS, or even preparing to go to the
direct site where the endangerment is. They truly care, I volunteer mostly as an advocate with my voice.
I love what EDF has been doing to protect our world and everything in it. I didn't know how I could help until I joined. I am so glad I can be a part of something bigger!
I've been donating to EDF for about 25 years. They work with individuals, governments, corporations and others to achieve our goals. They listen and respond and recognize real-life challenges and most importantly, they get things done. I couldn't recommend them more highly.
I believe in the work that EDI is doing and that they make a positive difference. I strongly support their efforts to make this world a better place for all creatures that share this earth. I have been supporting them for a long time and will continue into the future.
The world's climate is changing, threatening to end life as many of us have known it. Unless we take immediate action to eliminate the contributing factors to global warming, the prospects for the future are grim. The first step towards action is awareness. EDF keeps its members and the public informed about environmental issues that need to be urgently addressed - and takes action to see that they are addressed. I've seen the results of those efforts. This is why I sign EDF petitions and support EDF on social media. This is why I scrape up a few a dollars I don't have each month to help EDF help me, my family, my friends, my community, my country, and the rest of the world. We have never needed organizations like EDF more than we do at this time.
These people get things done, simply put. Commonsense stuff to protect our environment is what we need right now, what with corporations content to keep heading us and our friends in the wild, towards extinction.
I am honored to be a part of this group. It is an amazing feeling having other people who passionately stand up for those who can not stand up for themselves. Mother Nature needs our help!! Thank you to EDF for all that you do and for bringing awareness to the issues that are being hidden or denied by politicians!! You rock!!!
I frequently refer to your website to see if ingredients in cosmetics and cleaning products are toxic or not. I am on a limited income but I will try to make donations because I am very concerned about our environment. I know how critical things are regarding the planet.
In this world today where so much is wasted and mistreated, an organization like EDF is exactly what is needed. I know that I have learned a great deal of information, and I thought I knew most of it already. As an avid animal rights activist and activist for the environment, My eyes have now been opened up to even more by EDF. I truly hope more and more people join this group because I think they will learn alot and much good will become of it.
Thank you EDF for all I have learned. And I wish you nothing but luck, Thanks for caring enough to do something.
DeAnna B.
EDF has helped me learn more about the environmental action needed to save our planet. This organization helps me be a part of the fight for important environmental issues, without demanding precious time I need to devote to my studies and my family.
With technological advances so many more people are connected. And when I say "connected" I mean people that cannot be away from the interment and devices for any duration of time. I am a lucky one and most likely of minority, to still have a deep connection with nature and animals. I love to give my passion deeper roots in the network of the human race. As a conservationist and a humanitarian I can see that Environmental Defense is a link is a link.
This is one of many organizations that help fill the gap between the average citizen and their voice and the people that are actually making higher up decisions about how the environment is managed.
As a college student of the late 60s-early 70s I was interested and active in protecting our environment and ending the Vietnam War. Well, the war is over, my kids are grown, and I've retired from teaching. I was looking for a way to still make a difference. I was checking my Facebook and someone had posted an article about a declining turtle population. I signed the petition and began getting alerts about other animals and the environment. I know from past experiences the only way the "little people" can win against big government and corporations is to band together. That's what Environmental Defense Inc. does. It gives all of us ordinary citizens a real voice and together the power to make real changes in our world. If you are concerned about the world we live in and the legacy we will leave to future generations this is a wonderful way to stay informed and make a difference. Join us in making our world stronger by protecting our earth, water, and wildlife.
As a wildlife artist featured in the World famous "Wild Discovery" tabletop book and Julia "Butterfly" Hills famous environmental book "The legacy of Luna" I do my best to keep abreast of the important environmental issues of our times. The Environmental Defense Fund not only enables me to quickly voice my opinions directly to political leaders and government officials who have been entrusted to safe guard and protect our environment, but they also provide environmental artist like me with a glimmer of hope to bring about significant change to an ever growing out of control Energy Industry who have taken full advantage of the deregulation policies that were secretly enacted during the Bush/Cheney administration which continue to negatively effect our fragile planet to this very day,... When I see our Gulf Coast covered in crude oil and the numerous sea life washing up along the west coast of California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska from the Fukushima melt down in Japan, when I see huge violent snow storms ravaging our nation do to global warming, green house gases and carbon pollution, melting our polar regions, etc,.. when I hear of all the made earthquakes and ground water pollution in our local rivers and streams through-out our country because of the numerous Fracking operations, or the devastating effects of powerful tornado's and hail storms obliterating entire communities through-out the mid east of our country, it becomes vitally important for us all to do what ever we can to educate ourselves and our society to the effects we ourselves created when we continue to burn fossil fuels. It's time for a huge shift in conscience and lifestyle change towards alternative energy sources like wind and solar power. We must elect and politically support all those who share these important views and concerns in Washington if we our to leave this planet a better place for future generations to come. It is now are responsibility to provide our children with a fighting chance to overcome the mistakes of the past. Thank you Environmental Defense Fund for all your hard work, commitment and relentless dedication towards all these noble goals to protect our planet. Sincerely Thomas DeSoto,... Director of Photography,... ECI,LLC,... www.thomasdesoto.com,...
I am only 12 years old but I love the outdoors, animals and our planet. As soon as I started researching about global warming for a school project I almost immediately became depressed and thought there was no hope of saving planet earth, but I found EDF's website and it gives me hope.
I'm not sure how I got on your "mailing list", but glad I am. I am one of many moderate Republicans who are very concerned about our environment and all of the challenges we face through greed of corporations, incompetence of our government nd ignorance of the general population. My family are all scuba divers and we have seen tremendous changes over 25 years in marine life due to acidification (agricultural runoff) of the water and warming, as well as overfishing and garbage mounds.
I live in South Carolina. Every time I send my environmental concerns to our state and and US Senate and Congressional representatives, I get canned responses that have nothing to do with the environment. I would like to know WHO in this state makes a difference other than those wonderful people who work for the SC Coastal Conservation League under the leadership of Dana Beach. We need to get meaningful reforms, including solar and geothermal incentives passed by out legislature.
there are so many organizations out there that work to protect the environment that my head spins sometimes; i've found that the one place where i end up most often is the environmental defense fund because it's got the experience and certainly the expertise to fight the good fight; the issues which i feel are most important to me concerning the environment are the ones that the "edf' is fighting for and that means a lot to me
Great job done by EDF. They are on top of issues about our planet and how we make it a better place to live for everyone. I support their efforts and hope that we can muster many more people to the causes undertaken by EDF.
I haven't been a member of the EDF for very long, but I'm proud to be able to say that I am a member. The EDF is a wonderful way for people to get connected to important issues and be able to help out.
EDF has a high rating for transparency and spending on programs. It is also known for effective use of monies spent and supports various vehicles. EDF receives an A rating from most of the agencies rating nonprofits.
EDF does a great job of curating the other non-profits involved in working for the benefit of the planet. The information is valuable and a great resource when you spend 30-60 minutes every day signing petitions. Being a long time volunteer for several charitable organizations, I know how precious time can be. Keep up the great work!
The following essay is how I feel about environmental awareness and activism. Please excuse the sarcasm. I found it necessary to drive home some points.
ONCE UPON A TIME WE WERE DINNER
Once upon a time we were dinner. Larger, more aggressive, creatures used to eat us all the time. To this very day circumstances still exist where we could be dinner. For instance: get lost in the wilderness of any continent with no supplies and no weapon to protect yourself and see how many days you endure before you are food for other creatures.
In spite of this potential ‘ who’s coming to dinner ? ‘ scenario, humans have placed themselves at the top of the food chain. This is because of the dubious notion that beings who occupy the most spaces on this planet are considered to be the most successful.
Humans may indeed occupy the most spaces here on Earth, but an ironic question arises from the words survival and successful. If we are threatening our own existence through over population, climate changes, pollution, destruction of our biological environment, and causing the extinction of many of Earth’s other creatures ( all of which are crucial issues connected to our survival ) can this quagmire we have orchestrated — within the most spaces — actually be defined as successful ?
If so, isn’t that like being considered the most successful beings because we occupy the most spaces in a toxic waste dump ? And doesn’t this just make us a short-sighted species who have selected against our own survival by bullying and destroying our way in to the most spaces ? And doesn’t this also place us on the menu again in another way . . . as dinner for the worms and bugs in the ground where all of human kind will eventually end up as we push ourselves into a collective, permanent dirt nap ?
Fortunately, we have finally begun to individually and collectively make moves to change our destructive behavior. If we continue to take corrective actions and raise awareness of how connected we all are to the destiny of our planet, we may just turn our impending environmental and population disasters around before it is too late.
EDF provides a valuable service for me and others to keep informed of very important environmental issues and participate in actions necessary to address those issues. I am thankful that these people do what they do.
I started doing volunteer work in high school my senior year. It was a requirement but I wanted to legitimately do something that would make a difference and EDF does wonders. They aren't afraid to take on issues that a lot of people just shut their eyes to. They face them head on and make a difference and i'm honored to help them. If your looking to make a difference EDF is the way to go.
EDF takes on the most important large-scale environmental issues and tackles them head-on. Since I feel powerless personally in the face of issues such as industrial pollution and wasteful practices, I am grateful to have an organization that will fight for me. There is strength in numbers, so I am glad to contribute to EDF and participate in their actions that make life better for all of us.
I have always been a activist sense the age of 17 when my mother had me start making her a garden and maintain it. My mother said I had a natural ability to make things grow. Later in years to come I tried to take an active part in water conservation but was denied the job for lack of a history of ever being a part of a activist group. I recommend any one who is worried about the unusual changes in our world today take up the fight for climate changes that will guarantee our children an earth that we had the privilege of living in.
"We have met the enemy, and he is us."
-Walt Kelly Earth Day 1970 on a POGO comic-inspired poster
My Sustainability professor showed that exact comic reference to my class, and it really hit home. It made me recognize how ignorant and selfish the majority of the world is on issues such as climate change, water conservation, preservation of our natural wildlife etc., and when I came across the EDF I felt a sense of hope left for humanity. I think this organization does a great job promoting awareness toward sustainable acts. It is reassuring to know that there are individuals who have taken time to do research on issues and big-picture topics with the ultimate goal in mind of trying to save our planet from ourselves. The work done by the EDF is admirable, and I applaud each and every member.
As a busy mother, part of the work force, and physics student, I am happy to support such a wonderful organization. EDF offers solutions or challenges that are well thought through, backed by research, and ethics. They offer easy ways to support petitions, donate, and make a difference in our ever-changing world.
Environmental Defense Fund uses a uniquely effective approach, drawing on science, economics, partnerships and bipartisan outreach.
They solve problems by bringing together insights from many disciplines and diverse groups of people.
"Founded by scientists, [EDF] believes in data...It promotes market incentives to change behavior and isn’t afraid to work with industry."
Utterly nonpartisan, it is oriented toward practical policy solutions.
Joe Nocera New York Times columnist
I appreciate the way Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) thinks differently about how to solve environmental problems. It's nice to be able to, with just a click, state to the powers that be how I feel about our Mother [Earth] and what we Must do to protect her. I love how EDF is working to change policy, policy that effects the entire globe.
As an urban permaculture farmstress, mother, and grandmother, I am especially concerned about the health and well-being of our Mother.
Keep up the great work. I am behind you all of the way.
Namaste, Jeanne
Environmental Defense Inc. is an exceptional organization. They actually care about, support, & bring awareness to the causes I'm interested in. They cover all areas & aspects of the environment, from the destruction of the earth (IE: frakking, drilling, deforestation, etc.) the oceans, (again, drilling, toxic dumping, over-fishing, endangerment of marine life,) to our air quality & protecting vanishing wildlife.
They get the job done & have managed to help get legislation passed that will ultimately protect all of the inhabitants of this fragile eco-system on Earth. I'm proud to be counted as a supporter of EDI, & of the work we can all accomplish together.
Check them out. You'll see what I'm talking about.
~ Lauren Schilling
The Enviromental Defense Incorporated is a much needed organization! We all need to join together to help save the planet. The more support we get for enviromental change the better!!! We only have ONE EARTH.
When I recently decided to become more active in supporting environmental causes, my friend recommended supporting EDF. I have not been disappointed. EDF's emails inform me about the important issues at hand, and also update me on the progress that is being made. I am grateful to my friend for recommending EDF, and will continue to support them on a daily basis through participating in their action alerts, and by sending monthly donations with confidence.
In fact, I'm amazed with the work of EDF. You are actually doing your best since environmental work is concern, especially with regard to advocacy on wildlife and climate change.
GGSI is also doing its best in advocacy on forest forums in our forest fringe communities here in Ghana.
The EDF is a superb organization that does many things to save our people and planet. I would highly recommend donating anything you can to help them.
Folks, we have just one planet here and we all must live together on it. To not listen to those professionals who have devoted their careers to the environment scientifically speaking and who are our foremost experts...when they have been sounding the alarm as loud as it is possible...just because we don't like the message is a crime committed by society...a sociological crime of unimaginable scope...when we consider what we are leaving to our children and their children...our grandchildren!
This group called EDF is an excellent organization to accept our input...society at large...that is going to be the foundation on which Climate Reform Mandates arise from...the pressure we can bring to bear on our political structure and our Industrial structures to commit to meaningful and coherent paths to end and reverse this nightmare of climate destruction that has ran rampant for the past century and a half amid willful and complicit deception to all of society that must live with the results because we simply have nowhere else to go to call home.
Dinosaurs became extinct through destruction to the climate on the planet from a Meteor strike...an act of God and Physics...for us to destroy ourselves the same way is insanity and stupidity on a global scale making us not much smarter than the Dinosaurs...how's that for evolution vs nature?
We are responsible for this mess...act like adults and let's do what is the only right thing to do and fix this with the honest efforts of all.
Use platforms like the one presented by EDF as many times as you can to make your voices heard now...time IS a finite factor!
I am a developer of Clean Energy Power Generation Projects. Most informed people know Climate Change represents a fundamental challenge to the future of the planet and that green house gas emissions must be significantly reduced as quickly as possible. However, they differ on solutions. Rather than advocating just one solution, such as installing wind and solar projects and shutting down all fossil power plants as many environmentalists do, EDF uses hard data and realistic assumptions to propose policy that can be implemented to maximize the reduction of GHG emissions world wide. And that is why EDF is so much more effective than other well-meaning environmental groups.
If you care about our world.
If you care for her future.
Supporting EDF goes a long way in keeping her protected.
Thats why I support EDF cause I love my mother and without her life is not possible.
Will you protect life to the utmost degree?
I know I will.
Thats why you can always find me at the front line of all issues.
I believe that some of our biggest fights are against coal, oil spills and global warming. EDF fights against all environmental thugs. I grew up in the country and loved walking through the woods, wading through the creek flowing with clear, clean water. Now they have cleared the land and built million dollar homes. They destroyed the woods, more interested in the money than the environment. We are pushing the wildlife from their homes, then complain because they are in their back yard. WAKE UP!!! If we keep up with the destruction of natural habitat there will be nothing left. It is like the song says, "they razed paradise and put up a parking lot". Our water is dangerous to drink, our mountains are being destroyed by mountain top mining and our sea life is being suffocated by oil from spills.
I love being part of environmental defense. it makes a difference to me in my life to take part in making a difference! I don't want to ever come to realize that I had a chance to help and didn't.story here and help others understand this charity

Great Movements begin with Great Ideas. EDF provides inroads for all of us to make our voices heard. I for one, appreciate the hard work and dedication shown by the EDF staff. Keeping me informed of issues which are near and dear to me, providing a venue that we all can use to promote a common cause. Keep up the good work!
The Earth needs our help and we can help her help us, because if she goes down, we go down as well, and since we as a whole people started this mess we have to stop it.
EDF is one of the best environmental protectors I've ever encountered. The word on the street is that every dollar donated finds its way to the land and wildlife needing it most, and I truly believe this. Thank you EDF for all you do to help our beautiful Earth!
Thank you to this wonderful community of pro-environment, pro-health, and being a positive force for the life of our planet! I appreciate the work and the information that EDF shares! I hope that all the different organizations for our environment could work together to pool resources and pool our advocacy with the US government and the leadership of other countries!
I so appreciate the wonderful work EDF does on behalf of the environment. They help keep me in the loop regarding issues on the front line of the environmental movement. Thanks so much for all you do!!!
I'm the guy behind the chainsaw, using mowers, herbicide and fire to maintain the habitat I restore. I'm there watching when the rare plants and animals recover quickly from the sixth mass extinction. Please invest heavily in boots on the ground habitat restoration coupled with local land managers with intimate knowledge of the places they protect.
No matter how much humans disagree, we are animals and part of the ecological aspects of the planet. EDF's role in using the courts to protect nature - along with its research and other resources - give voice to the voiceless: the wildlife, plants, sea life and environment. Thank you EDF.
i am with my father he told me one day that God was not going to end our lives man was. so sad but from what i have seen it is true . we all need to take a stand we need them to due there jobs as we have elected them to if the can not then they need to be laid of and not paid just like they due us
I have to say that with so much change happening in the world, most of it bad it seems, one has to choose their battles. My biggest concern is animal welfare, so I donate to important animal welfare groups. (Animals are treated incredibly badly.) But I feel that Environmental Defense Fund is a logical extension of my concern. It broadens the goal to other vitally important concerns that affect both animals and the human animal. Plus, they seem to accomplish a lot with the tools they have.
As a child I learned that trust needs to be earned and that even the most honorable and noble of intentions can be turned into something parasitic to humanity.
And after all the research I have done on EDF and the, more often shady than not, spending practices of major nonprofits. EDF has my trust. They do good work the honorable way for the benefit of humanity and nature. Its a shame organizations such as this go unnoticed.
Sign up for EDF and be on the forefront of breaking environmental news and legislative action. This is a worth while, much needed organization at a critical time when big oil & coal interests, the Koch brothers and ALEC are making a concerted, heavily financed assault on clean air and water standards and the Earth we love. Support a moratorium on fracking until it can be proven to be safe. Please vote in all elections, don't be lax -- this is the best tool of the people and we need to stand united. Climate change deniers, politicians financed by big oil & coal and people who support raping the land are being elected by small margins. You can make a difference!
It seems to me I have supported the work of EDF all my life, but I am older than they are, I believe; so that can't be true. I think they are truly one of the treasures of the world and the work they do is vital to educating us all in the precious resource we have and what we need to do to preserve it. Their activism stands between extinction and the world today which seems hellbent on production and development with the environment be damned.
I signed some petitions and realized the world needs EDF. We are polluting the world and killing off the wildlife and we need to stop before it is too late.
As an aging outdoors-men, the time I put in politically, has become a important burden! Please hear me out. In this day and age, a "staged rally" for the numerous issue's, one can not be physically be everywhere all the time. EDF makes it possible to keep up with all issue's important to everybody's well being. Just by sitting on your butt! They fill out the monotonous ballot issue's for you, and make it easy to do the right thing! Voice your opinion. I hate to say it, but it's getting to the point that I can trust the "ballot direction" EDF is behind and not read it for myself!!! Never do that anyone; but that's my voting record with them(us). In this day & age, who can you say that about? And, if you think the environment is holding it's own, think again. We are in the pretense of the next ice age. If you can't fight for the next 20 generations, then try reading a book. Please support Environmental Defense Incorporated, it's an easy few minutes out of your day to fight the Big Corps & the wrong lobbyist's! ;) JA Schmidt
Honoring as sacred and divine is our health, our energy, our generosity and our collective discipline; doing our part to KEEP NATURE PRISTINE. Bragging rights: I schlep dishwater to my outdoor plants, drive my car 1-2 days/wk, bus/cycling instead. The discipline of keeping my 69 y.o.system happy becomes habitual: it is unthinkable for me to get in the car and go get a take-out pizza (that's loaded w/ GMO's, solidified bovine mucus {cheese), is not organic + it's possessed by demonic processed, nutrient-empty additives. Let's give nasty corporations the evil eye and 'the finger'. Gary Harrold Santa Cruz, CA
We live on a dying planet. It may be already too late to save it, but we must try. The EDF appears to be at the forefront of these efforts to save ourselves. Humans want to do the right thing, but they need better education as to the inherent dangers of continuing on the path we are on. We must get rid of the current corruption of campaign finance in which the bribery of both Parties by the ultra wealthy rules. This will not be easy, and we must be prepared for defeat. We must convince the ultra wealthy that they cannot survive, either, unless they change their selfish ways. We must not allow our only home to be destroyed. There is no escape.
I have contributed to EDF for 20 years because i am grateful to them for standing up to business interests and others who would degrade our planet. I am relieved that they are able to do the work of protection that I cannot. Their expertise and passion in guarding the environment allows me to sleep at night!
This organization and site, is a valuable tool to educate yourself and others in ongoing causes and efforts. It provides a chance to gain knowledge, insight and gives you a voice and chance to help make important differences in the world.
EDF helps me keep up to date with the most important enviromental causes. I love how I get emails with the petitions to sign and all the required information is already filled out for me; I just need to put my signature on it and it will go directly to my district representatives.
In my everyday fight with people who ignore the importance iof taking care of our environment, EDF has become in one more tool I use to educate the ones around me who need to understand the vital concepts of ecological balance and sustainability.
98% of them will tell you that they can't really do anything , but thanks to EDF and several researchs and paper we are finding more people who actually end up understanding our ideas and principals...
Thank you EDF and keep the good work!!!!
In a field that is often dominated by high-minded, but impractical idealism, EDF stands out as taking concrete steps to protect the environment and its ecosystems--a very effective use of your donation dollars!
We have many fronts and many ungencues to attend.
The importance of our message be transmitted promptly, and must compete with others such as pollution, food, deforestation, exploitation, war, destruction and other
occupying the concern of what will future generations.
Much success.
Sincerely.
Have a nice day with lots of laughter.
Not everyone can physically or monetarily help such an important issue as our planet and the life that makes it the place we've all come to love. Organizations such as EDF allows those of us to become armchair warriors for that that we believe in but sending letters, making phone calls and writing letters to those that seem hell bent on destroying our world. Grassroots organizations like this makes the absolute best out of what they have and utilize all help they get, in whatever form it comes in. It's people like this that is our future and am so happy that there are so many that care enough to fight for it .
I have always been an advocate for environmental issues and have worked in the field employed by the EPA and The State of Nebraska as an environmental specialist and an inspector. I have also taught environmental science in high school and college. My students told me I was a "Debbie Downer"
about environmental issues but by the end of my courses they sincerely thanked me for what I taught and how they would use their education to further act on environmental issues. I am a member of several wildlife and environmental groups and this organization is one more that promotes such information and advocacy.
Keep up the good work!
Tom Newton
EDF, Environmental Defense Fund, is a wonderful non - profit organization. This organization actually deserves subsidies from the public than oil and gas corporations get in billions for subsidies. We The People ought to divert the oil and gas subsidies to organizations like the EDF. Our environment is key to a healthy society and it personally impacts my own life because I get sad when I see or hear about oil and gas barons don't care about their oil spills or gas fracking and how both damage our environment and ecosystems. Endangered animals need saving too. So join EDF today my fellow planetary beings. We got to save earth not destroy her. Sincerely, Katherine Riebe.
I want to do what I can to save our planet so my granddaughter has a place to live. So she can grow up and pass it on to her children if she has any.
The E.D.F., puts muscle behind the causes that they champion. Due to my age and physical situation, I am able to make a difference in the world/country by signing petitions and never having to leave my home. We must organize and fight the destructive forces that are arrayed against us. We have one earth!
This organization has helped me become more aware of the crisis that effects our oceans, endangered species and our planet in general. We have to be aware of the problem to be able to do something about it. My passion is animals... I plea that others speak up for those that can't speak for themselves.
Until I win the lottery, I can't be a philanthropist! Yet I really, really care deeply about our tiny, endangered planet. Environmental Defense Fund is my power, my influence, my way to make a difference--here and now! EDF has "street cred" from the halls of Congress and Corporate America to the drilling fields of pristine wilderness and the stewards of protected lands. When EDF speaks, people on all sides listen, knowing the data is valid, the approach is practical, the solutions benefit all. EDF is my voice. I recommend you make it yours!
I appreciate the efforts of EDF and all their volunteers in keeping me informed of the necessary actions needed to keep our planet protected from man-made environmental disasters. I realize it takes a group of dedicated people to stay alert and aware of pending legislation and actions that threaten the well being of our planet and her inhabitants. I'm very thankful to be a citizen activist and the alerts I receive by email are crucial to my staying informed. The representatives in my home state, of Oklahoma, are some of the worst when it comes to environmental defense. EDF helps me stay aware of how they vote on proposed bills and allows me time to respond and add my voice to the concerns of others. I feel that I am a more informed local and global citizen, because of the efforts of EDF!
I grew up outside in the open. We lived on the edge of town on what I always described as a farmlet. Except in winter I refused to sleep inside. I often went chasing rabbits with my dog-- not to hunt them, just to hug them.
I learned that I couldn't fall or jump much more than two stories without breaking something. I learned how to skid race on the frozen Missouri. I helped build our community theatre beside its banks.
My mother tried to teach me fishing, I caught a fish and cried. My boyfriend took me out to teach me how to shoot a rifle. I shot a squirrel and cried, I still grieve for the fish and the squirrel.
My father let me raise a runt pig and an almost dead chicken in the living room. My mother kept quiet about that.
I learned about me by gazing at stars. I learned to meditate the same way. I eventually found that my personal philosophies had names.
I find my world dying and many of its inhabitants mistreated and run aground away from their habitats.
I always grieve for the fish, the mammals, the birds and all.
We all know at one level or another that we are killing our planet and its living beings.
EDI brings our voices together to speak as one and to be heard as millions.
We need EDI now, more than ever.
With the huge global threats that are a clear & present danger to my children as well as the rest of us I have found EDF to be the kind of uncompromising group of individuals that we need in this time of extremes.
With our politicians taking their paychecks directly from the corporations democracy is dead in the USA. Democracy in its essence means representation of which the people have none on Capitol Hill. That's why EDF is so important. It represents those of us who have no real voice to be heard & fights for the welfare of all. If you can give EDF any help at all, from pennies to billions, from a signature to a pat on the back I beg you to do so. That 'begging' is not an exaggeration; together we are strong, divided we are weak. Without these fighters for the truth we, & our political institutions, would all be in that much more peril than we already are.
Thank you EDF from the bottom of my heart! Terence Pearce. LA, CA.
my wife and i have supported these guys for decades. they are always right there where action is most needed.

When I was eight years old my parents took my brothers and myself camping in a deep woods park in Onterio Canada. While hiking on a nature trail, titled Lookout Point, we wereable to hear wolves howling back and forth across the valley. I was amazed and have read stories and articles on wolves for the past fifty years. I have followed the progress wolves were making on their comeback from near extinction in the lower forty eight. I sponsered a wolf from the Sawtooth Pack. I was an active enviromentalist fighting mans distruction of habitat through expanssion and pollution. Things were bleak in the sixties, but mant improvements, due to groups like EDI were acomplished. But lately, some things have taken a backward turn.
One of those subjects has been my beloved wolves. Wildlife can not fight for itself, it needs advocates. Lawyers to fight in court, to keep land out of the hands of those that would distroy nature for profit, and polluters who disregard the laws that have been set to protect the enviroment. As animals and natrual lands go, so goes mankind. Oxygen does not just occour, trees and other plant life create it. The list of benifits is endless. We must keep as much of our earth wild and natural as possible. Protecting, and not distoying top preditors is one necessary step. Groups like EDI are our only hope. As an individual I have no way of protecting wolves. My lone voice in the battle would go completly unheard. But with EDI, and others, who gather us together, can bring responsable parties to court. Or, through a large voice, express public opinion to legistators, things can be changed, corrected, and protected.
Hi, my name is Arascelli, i'm from Santiago, Chile, and I want to thank all of you for making this organization works and also because you really care about this world, I mean it's remarkable that you really care about the enviroment and people, and not just that, you solve all them problems and allow us to be part of it, because together we can do big things!! without you people wouldn't know anything about the problems that affect us and one more time THANK YOU for everything you have done, everything you do and everything you will do for us!!
Defending the environment from further deterioration is an obvious need. That is step one. Step two is to start reversing the damage already done. My personal donation to EDF has been small, but I am involved in organizing a new company whose product will have the potential of reducing world consumption of lubricating oils by millions of gallons a year. All of us should do what we can.
I came upon this organization by accident while surfing on internet and am glad i can contribute to its honorable activity with may participation in actions they initiate!
This wonderful organization has come to my attention because they really care about people and this world we live in and on. They are trying in everyway possible to right injustice done to people animals and this planet of ours.I will continue to spread their word their worth and their causes and urge anyone who cares to do the same. Thank You. J.M.
They got 4 and one quarter stars on the internet. I am new with them but theyrecognize meand my abilities which really made my day. So I will work for them all I can. I live in poverty so my work will be physical and not monetary. Hope
Scrivo di proposito in italiano. E dovrei scrivere tanto. Ma una sola cosa: sono un essere vivente , I am a living being, come gli alberi, gli animali..., ospite per ora della Terra, as trees, as animals, guest on the Earth, by now.
EDF really tries to help animals in need. EDF also happens to be a nonprofit organization which makes it even more amazing. I think it really kind of them to help animals in need and endangerment. Their effort for trying and helping is extraordinary, especially when their organization is nonprofit. They seem to work tirelessly trying to help these animals, due to constant emails, and strong letters. So please try and help the animals along with them and make your voices heard.
For years, I stood while watching large corporations wreck the atmosphere, the oceans and our own soil, despite all of the scientific evidence. I saw politicians sign acts and policies that favored these large corporations for reasons which are evident, but that I will not comment about. I was overwhelmed with regret when big companies took advantage of the media to make believe they were being part of the solution while defending the problem in lobby groups, campaigns and political conferences. How could I contribute to the solution when they have the power to brainwash people into believing they are 'green'. Sounds more like greenwash to me... Environmental Defense Incorporated gives me the opportunity to make my voice be heard in a way that makes a diference, and for that I cannot thank them enough.
This is a great organization with truly dedicated and committed workers, each of them campaigning tirelessly to help preserve this tiny planet we humans call earth! They are trying to make Governments and companies take notice of the extent of damage being done to the planet and every living thing that inhabits it; they are our moral concience making each of us aware that we too can play a part in helping to preserve this planet and the animals on it for future generations!
I think this is a spectacular charity working ceaselessly to defend and help protect our highly endangered planet. Their information is well informed, balanced, informative and cutting edge. I feel everyone should become part of this group to become better educated about key environmental issues, to take action, to keep pressure on those that would prefer us not to know, to keep on donating and most importantly to keep engaged in the movement to change the mindset of politicians, scientists, global corporations and other vested interests.
I give thanks to all that give their time for this amazing organization.
We all got to stand up for what is right, and to take care of our environment and nature.
If we don't then who would?
God gave us this earth to treat it with love.
Since I was little, I was always concerned about the environment and animals. Whether it be back then, when I doctored birds back to health and threw away the trash in my backyard, or now when I eat organic vegan food and pick up litter on my hikes and walks, I will always be committed to the environment. EDF makes it easy for me. All I have to do is sign petitions and donate what money I can in order to make this world a better place. This is a fantastic organization that just keeps on giving.
I love everything that EDF stands for. A fantastic organization that's doing it's part to make this little planet thrive. Thank you EDF!
I absolutely love what this organization does and the clear effort they put into every aspect of the process. I stand by all of their concerns and think it is great that someone is out there trying to help and make the world a better place. I appreciate the emails with up to date info and the personal touch they have.
As a donor, one thing that I can say that is very important to me and to most donors, is that if I am asked for money in every email I get, than I can see that keeping me informed is less of a concern than getting money from me. So I would recommend continuing to send info about useful topics and environmental events both good and bad, and ask for money only occasionally. However keeping a link to a donation screen should always be there.
Being limited in ways i can get involved and help with important issues directly, the EDF has made it easy for me to get involved by doing all the hard work and supplying me with easy and quick ways to help from the comfort and convience of home. They tackle the tough and urgent problems our world faces and bring all of us that want to help but dont know how togeather as one voice and there by create a force that must be heard and listened to. I advise anyone that wants their voice heard to join and begin makeing your voice heard as well!
The older I become the greater the need to stop what has been a lifetime of watching as the environment falls off the front page as something we ALL need to be involved in. It has become a race to the finish and the side against the environment is huge and money'd. I can not do what I used to in the way of giving as a senior citizen, but I can sign petition's and use my voice. For this reason EDI is a perfect way to do this. I am thankful to have found them.
Ever since I was a child I had a great interest in protecting the environment. EDF is such an important organization for sustaining this passion. They provide useful information on current issues, legislation, and opportunities for action. Through EDF I have been able to take action on issues that matter to me, and share these opportunities with people in my circle. What's more, EDF gets things done. I am always impressed with their follow-ups on issues that I've taken action on, letting the public know how things turned out and work that still needs to be done. EDF is making a real difference in the world.
I first found this site by looking at pictures of polar bears on Tumblr. Ever since then, I've been informed and active, using my time and limited influence to change the world, one petition at a time; As can you. The best aspect of this newfound power I wield comes from reading the individual stories, these cries for aid, and seeing them met with overwhelming response by the wonderful people here. Every victory is simply one more reason to keep on doing what I'm doing right now. My security comes from the fact that my future is not in the hands of faceless organizations or shady governments, but me. I'M the one who is taking action to ensure that what I love and cherish remains for countless generations to come.
God created human beings to help one another and at any cost we should be great roll model's and make this beautiful world a better place for everyone.
For as long as I can remember, I have been seriously concerned about the welfare of our planet and about the terrible things that are happening to it and have been happening to it for a long, long time. The email messages I receive from the EDF are my only way of making my voice heard on these issues, and I am so grateful that there is this vehicle, provided by dedicated activists, that keeps me informed on what is going on and what needs to be rectified. With everyone's voice raised in protest against the things that threaten our wildlife and our environment perhaps more will be accomplished than otherwise would have been possible. Legislators need to know how much people are concerned and how their votes for these legislators will reflect their desire to get things done. The EDF provides a great service by allowing unempowered people such as myself to at least make their opinions and concerns known.
Thank you for your work. I only support monetarily and physically, organizations that assist animals. Too many people don't recognize that defending and improving our environment helps animals, as well as humans. Thanks again for your noticeable efforts.
I only support environmental organizations I can witness actively working in the public domain and/or that I read about in news articles regarding environmental and wildlife issues. EDF is a constant presence in both of these venues. I highly recommend EDF as an organization worthy of extensive public support.
EDF does great work to improve this planet. These committed efforts have benefits for plants, humans, and other animals. Thank you EDF!
I really appreciate societies like Environmental Defense Fund that try to save the planet because the mankind's behavior has to change and EDF is making a way for it.
Environmental Defense Incorporated's commitment to finding solutions to the most perilous environmental problems of our day is absolutely steadfast. Their model of addressing these critical environmental challenges through collaboration and non-traditional partnerships with all stakeholders is the essential component that is creating real-world working solutions day by day. This organization is truly doing the good work that is helping to bring positive change for today and for the future.
This is so important, not only for us now, but for our children and grandchildren. The need is so great to keep our planet a decent place to live.
WE NEED MANY MORE PEOPLE TO WAKE UP AND STEP UP TO TAKE PART IN THIS ANY WAY THEY CAN!
EVEN THOUG MANY OF US CAN
T TAKE PART FINANCIALLY!!! i KNOW WE CAN'T RIGHT NOW. IT'S HARD ENOUGH JUST TO SURVIVE! HUMANS SEEM TO WANT TO KILL EVERYTHING AND WE HAVE TO PUT A BIG HARD STOP TO IT?! BIG TIME!!!
tHESE TYES OF HUMANS ARE REALLY SUB HUMANS ARE SUB HUMANS AND TO GIVR CREIT TO PEOPLE TO THOSE THAT KILL JUST TO KILL IS TRULY SICK!
I Truly Believe that Environmental Defense Incorporated does Excellent, Essential, Necessary Work!!!! I feel Extremely Strongly about All the Causes & Support them Fully!!!! It's Time Someone 'stepped up' to address these Urgent Issues!!!! EDF Is Doing That Superbly!!!! It makes me feel Good to be a Part of Something Extremely Important, & to 'Speak for Those Who Cannot Speak For Themselves'~ie, the Endangered Animals!!!! I am Very Grateful for All the Work that EDF does!!!! EDF does a Most Excellent job of Reaching out to the Public!!!! It's So Very Important to Protect Endangered Species & Care for our Planet in the Best Way with the Least Amount of Harm!! I Recommend Working with EDF, Even if it's Signing Petitions, to Everyone!!!! Thanks for all your hard work!!!! Fantastic Job!!!! Bless You All!!!! & Thank You Very Very Much!!!! Joan K. Cuplin
If I had tons of money to Donate to a worthy cause I'd Donate it all to the " Environmental Defense Incorporated " ! It's a great bet that you just Donated to an Awsome Organization and you won't be Sorry that you Donated it all to The Environmental Defense Incorporated " ! An Organization that does every thing possible to Defend Wild Animals And everyone and every Animal and everything on this Planet that they set out to Defend ! I'm Very Proud of all they have done ! And that they continue to to !
EDF makes me feel valued as part of the fight for our planet's environment. We face so many challenges right now, with fracking, open pit and mountaintop mining, tar sands, underwater sonic explosions, to name a few of the harmful and environmentally dangerous forms of exploration for dirty energy. Then there's deforestation, loss of habitat, climate change, the list seems endless. But it must end, or we will. We all need to do our part, and EDF makes that possible.
The work that this organization does is truly amazing. Our planet needs help, and by having organizations like EDF to help protect and educate the public, we move a step closer to a more healthy and spiritually awakened planet.
The work you are doing is so that future generations will have a world to live in and that still have clean air and wild life to enjoy. We the people need to start helping by recycling, reusing - and coming up with other ways to use solar energy.
I have been recycling for over 35 years - Aluminum, glass, newspaper - was glad when recycling centers opened the door for more items to be recycled. Yet there is so much more that could be recycled - yet the centers put restrictions on things so a lot of the public refused to recycle because these centers will not take all plastics or cardboard or plastic bags. I have found a will know Company that will now take plastic bags.
Thank You for all you do.
I believe this organization is doing the work for the entire population on earth.
We have to protect our earth and it's inhabitants from us. We have the power to destroy everything on earth. They are doing my job in leading the charge
Thank you
T
All of us have a responsibility to protect our planet, without her we do not have anything. No food, air to breath, place to walk and share our lives with each other. Earth is our most precious resource. Pollution will never go away as long as humans inhabit the earth and humans are multiplying at an exponential rate.
This web-site is a fantastic tool to target and engage intelligent, responsible people for funding in order to prevent serious weather tragedies associated with global warming. Environmental Defense Incorporated has an excellent way of communicating with people in order to extract what is needed to complete the serious mission of environmentally freindly developemental processes.
One stop shop for all your Environmental activism needs. All it takes is one click in many instances to speak up for what you believe in.
I am sorry but at this time I have not been very active to this point with EDF but hope to follow your activities more closely in the future. I am involved with so many environmental groups at this time I am spread a little thin. That being said I feel that anything we can do as human beings whose survival depends on the awareness and care of the earth no matter how small is a great help. If each person on this planet actually stoped for a second looked at the beauty of what we have, how fragile it is and made one small change in how they live we could save what we have.
I became aware of our impact upon the environment when I was a diesel mechanic in 1979. I saw how we polluted the environment as a auto mechanic in 1978 These industries alone affected the water and air. Take the time to help yourself and family join as concerned citizens learn more about environmental defense incorporated and the work we do.
Thank you.
EDF is one of my favorite organizations that are doing everything they can to save our planet. What is important for us, and all of us adore Nature is to save it from being destroyed and Nature includes animals, plants, land, water, air we breathe and more. I'ts GIGO - if we put garbage in to the environment we get garbage out of the environment so we must be careful every day, each one of us on how we treat our environment.
The threats of climate change to our welfare and especially the welfare of future generations are significant. Acting now to protect the atmosphere from climate change-inducing pollution is the global issue of our time. I've increased my support for the Environmental Defense Fund because their work is on-target and effective. Through EDF I've been offered opportunities to take action that I would not have found on my own. I continue to look for opportunities to fight the causes of climate change. Currently, EDF is on of the best.
I think it is great that they are trying to get the environment back the way it used to be and should be. I am behind that 100 percent
Since EDF found me I have become much more aware of the opportunities to contact the law makers to
encourage them to make a stand and make a difference. Your pre-written comments make it much easier for me to let them know my thoughts. So often we have good intentions but just don't take the time to sit down, compose and mail a letter to the right people at the right time. EDF does the research that gets the rest of us in gear. Thank you for helping us to be more active and engaged citizens. Carry on!!!
EDF is wonderful! Everyone should care about our planet & EDF does a great job of spreading awareness.
EDF allows me to do something for the environment even though currently, I am not in a position to make monetary contributions or to go out and do active hands on work. It also gives me a way to spread information about important issues to those friends I know are also concerned about our environment. I cannot express how grateful I am for this opportunity.
I have been a member of EDF and they are a wonderful, caring organization who devote their time and energy to helping and supporting animal rights and welfare, and our environment. I strongly urge you to join and/or donate to support their cause.
Our Environment is very important to me we need to have cleaner air to breath healthier water
to drink and our wildlife animals need protection I think these issues should be just as important
to everyone else as well so I hope everyone else will help us fight for what is right.
Vera,
I am a concerned citizen of the United States and a person who follows events around the World. In the years I have been alive I've witnessed firsthand the pollution of our fragile planet. I have seen the oceans over-fished and polluted, the fresh water supply misused and abused. I have painfully witnessed mankind rape the minerals out of the ground for profit and out of ignorance. The global warming we all are seeing happen in our life times is a reality we simply cannot ignore or tolerate any longer. The ostrich mentality of the past cannot be the manner in which we tackle such problems in the future. I don't care about political party affiliation, just how we can all come together to over come these issues. This organization is a grass roots cause devoted to preserving the planet and helping to recover and repair the damage which has been done already. They care about the welfare of everyone not just Americans but all citizens who share this planet we call Earth. Thank You for allowing me to express my thoughts and feelings. Glen Walker
Typhoon Haiman, New Orleans, New Jersey - proof of climate change, with global temperatures reaching 14.6C in El Nino years and rising by approximately +0.1C per 20ppm/m3 of added CO2.
The Gulf Stream is now bathing the East Siberian Arctic Continental Shelf, in warm water, 7C above freezing in summer and the Arctic Methane Emergency Group, have called a Planetary Emergency.
They believe CO2, from melting Arctic sea ice, could raise global temperatures by 40ppm/m3 CO2 = to 14.8C, ( El Nino years), by 2015/2016, with 40ppm/m3 CO2, from East Siberian methane emissions, raising temperatures to 15C, as early as 2020, with potential for runaway global warming and that may collapse the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, with a 5m global flood, according to NOAA and NASA.
EDF are amazing because you can take this message out to the world, on the internet, and let everyone know that we may need to cut carbon emissions by 80% directly, to prevent this from happening.

As an avid supporter of animal rights and environment issues I continually receive very important updates from EDI. They let me know just which issues are the most in need at the time. I am not rich or even well off, but I feel even if I am spreading the news for them they appreciate all I can do. They are very informative about all things great and small that need our help. I encourage you to take a look, and take that leap to help. This is our earth and the people here really care. This is an excellent way to get involved.
I have been a long time donor, volunteer and member of the EDF. The work EDF has achieved on behalf of the environment, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the magnificent creatures with which we share our magnificent planet has been exemplary and is vitally important to each of us. I wholeheartedly support and endorse the EDF and its trailblazing work!
I believe that taking a stand in any way you can is extremely important! I could never just sit here and leave all of this to someone else and feel good about myself. I know that the people out there involved in EDF's fight to make a change are of a special breed of people who actually give a damn about this country, and it's animal inhabitants. I will follow them to the end!!
Its good to see that there are legitimate groups and causes that can use the internet as a force for good, to reach out and connect with others that feel as you do about the world we share. You make it helpful to get my voice heard in the way our planet is treated! :D
For many years, I worked in a foundry and was exposed to some potentially highly toxic materials in the work environment. Scrubbers and filters were installed to help with the foundry environmental atmosphere. Over time less toxic materials were used in environmental processing and helped with improving pollution within the foundry and coming out of the cupola discharge stacks. I made a point of wearing personal protective equipment most of the time. Use of a respirator helped cut down on inhaling foundry dust particles. I feel that my lung capacity has been somewhat compromised by the years I worked in a foundry. Awareness of environmental hazards campaigns were utilized by the company I worked for and personal safety was considered a top priority. Some of my fellow employees who didn't wear respirators during their work years are now dealing with serious environmentally caused diseases. Never-ending improvement in reducing potentially toxic, harmful pollution in the environment will help in the fight for people's health and well-being!
For those of you who care about your time on this earth, and care about the future for your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great grandchildren, join this site. Make the difference!
These guyz are fabulous in what.they do! You should consider joining them! They are.a great group to.work with!
I feel with the knowledge you provide to the general public, more people Will get involved in the environment and help this beautiful place we all share. We must do everything we can to support you and the work you do for our children. From coast to coast there is a issue, that needs addressed. I feel your there leading the way as our eyes and ears to the important issues that need supported. Thanks for including me in these causes,I appreciate it.
I came to EDF by an e-mail. Considering how much I love animals, I thought this was just what I wanted to get involved with. Seeing how you help protect our endangered species, I knew I was at the right place. I am a 62-year-old woman living in an assisted living center in Leland, North Carolina, so obviously I have little money to contribute, but I believe I can be useful by writing reviews, encouraging others to participate in EDF and many other things. I really don't know much about EDF, but from other reviews I've read, you seem to be doing a great job. I believe that God gave us a beautiful world, but we have fallen short in our stewardship of this world. We need more groups like EDF to speak for those of us who cannot get out and protest, do research, or help financially. But I will do my best in order to help my world and the wonderful God gave us to take care of. Lord knows, we humans sure have made a mess of things.
Environmental Defense Incorporated is the EXACT type of organization needed, to keep the public abreast to the ever-change issues to OUR environment. Without them, BIG CORPORATIONS would put us ALL into dire straits with their MISHANDLING of the Earths' environment. All the resources of OUR GREAT BIG PLANET are NECESSARY for each and everyone of our survival. If too much contamination occurs, we ALL will be affected by it in some way, shape or form. Environmental Defense Incorporated CARES ENOUGH to alert us ALWAYS of changes that take place in our environment, and they put out the alerts they feel the public should know about and react to, to thwart the carelessness caused by corporations that create the pollution that the earth is suffering from. Please take a moment of your time whenever you can and show your support for Environmental Defense Incorporated. Together we can right the wrongs as we can...through Environmental Defense Incorporated.
Yes I am what most would consider an old man at age 72, but I have wonderful much younger relatives who need the normal things. I also have a huge population that are my brothers and sisters in humanity. I really don't care if you know about God, but I believe She/He gives us free will to do what is very needed in the course of our journey on this our only home. Support EDF is one way you can make a difference. I am far from rich but i could wring out of my income some money to help. Hey I feel good about this small offering! Won't you join me in feeling good about yourself and your actions? Thank you
It truly scares me sometimes the way that the leaders of our country are so far removed from the real problems in our world, while the only people who seem to notice are the ones who are so under their thumb there isn't much they can do but voice their opinion and hope to wake the rest of the world up. After becoming involved with EDF I feel much less alone in this struggle and I know that we can make it work!
As a regular person with an 8 - 5 job, it's hard sometimes to do the necessary research and due diligence to stay up to speed on all of the environmental and health-related topics that we deal with all the time in our society. That's why I rely on EDF to do that work for me, so to speak, and provide informative, objective information regarding some of our most pressing issues, such as climate change, toxic household chemicals, and industrial farming. Their research is top-notch, and I applaud this organization for doing anything they can to raise awareness, spread knowledge, and promote healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. I will continue making EDF my first stop in gathering critical knowledge, and will help out whenever I can.
EDF, and other positive movements that represent and fight for what ordinary, sane informed people, realize are essential to having a decent life on the planet, and a decent life for those who come after us, deserve all of the support we can give them. They are us.
EDF is a great charity by all means. The activists are very supportive in helping the environment. Not only is it very informative but you have the chance to help defend our oceans, oxygen, wildlife, and climate change battles. If you want to be a part of something that does nothing but benefit us and our planet, EDF is on your side.
Hi,my name is Terry and the first time I was aware of the environment was when I drove to California and noticed the closer I got the smog was getting thicker and thicker. By the time I got there I could smell the difference from Michigan to California. I lived in Detroit for a while and could smell it there as well. But now that I am a volunteer for EDF I can help cut the pollution. I know times are hard for a lot of people as well as me,but the EDF has need for people to sign petitions as well as donate. Please,if you can not donate at least sign the petitions. This is a very good organization, and we need your help. So take a moment of your time and give us a hand. Thank you for your time that it took to read this. It's been my pleasure to write it. So now I wish you the best of day and Please help us to fight back.
Terry C.
My first recollection of environmental issues occurred when I was seven years old. I saw a mountain river in Western North Carolina covered in yellow foam and my dad explained that it was effluent from a huge paper mill. I am now 80 and several years ago I read that the problem still exists.
From an early age I was taught that we don't own the earth; we are stewards. I passed this belief on to my children and they are actively engaged in saving the planet, one who is making an impact on the grape-growing industry in Australia.
No everyone is lucky enough to have my upbringing and for them EDF is a great teacher. Each of us needs to live in the environmental mode in order to save Mother Earth.
This site allows me to sign petitions, send letters, and donate funds when I have a few extra bucks to help with saving the environment, wildlife and their habitats. I can be an activist without having to travel all over the place standing in picket lines or ending up in jail.
This nonprofit that stands to make aware the public of policy actions around the globe has helped me become more attentive in realizing how the "trickle down affects" of other sectors of governments policies indirectly and directly effect me and my environment. The policies that are made from other sectors of government do not account for all the alternative outcomes/setbacks/consequences that may arise when policies are put into play.
I thank this nonprofit for taking on that role and looking beneath the surface of an issue.
Keep up the good work!
During times of misinformation and when too many of us feel powerless a group like
EPI for this mother tax payer voter and advocate is a HUG. Thanks I needed that embrace
leaving me feeling HOPE - less of a dope. kate PLEASE love MOTHER EARTH after all she
is the support we walk on.
It is one of my fondest desires to be a mother. When the right man and opportunity present themselves, I will embrace that responsibility with every fiber of my being. I've begun to feather my nest now, even before these things come to pass because I want to do ALL that I am able to do to help correct the damages that have been done by less responsible generations who were either unaware of their stewardship responsibilities or unwilling to go to the trouble to take them on.
The environment and the great circle of life that depend on it for survival are so very delicate and so vulnerable to the kinds of damage that our species brings nearly effortlessly. We are now seeing the early results of our actions and the full impact has yet to manifest itself. Even if we stopped all fossil fuel consumption, greenhouse gas production and all forms of pollution, it would still take nearly a thousand years for the planet to return to it's natural rhythms, perhaps longer.
We can certainly make strides toward the goal of better planetary stewardship, we can be kinder, gentler and more loving to our earth. It is never too late to reach for something greater than what we believe our "best" to be. I want my children, when they arrive, to have a healthy planet in which to live. When they ask me what I did to make things better, I want to be able to look them in the eyes and tell them, "Everything I could", and know in my heart that every word of it is true.
I have signed and circulated petitions, offered my opinions whenever I could, chastised the inactive nonvoters and complainers, telling them to "Either Shut Up or Do Something!". I have forwarded news and posted reminders to my facebook page as well as in nearly every letter I write. I have created music and art inspired by these worthy causes and made myself generally unpopular among some circles.
With the news being so soul-crushing most of the time, it's little wonder that people try to shut their eyes and plug their ears. Even I am guilty of experiencing information overload and just wanting to hide away, from time to time but, I always come back for another round, because it's the right thing to do.
AS A FATHER OF A DAUGHTER , I BECAME AWARE OF THE DAMAGE DONE TO THIS GREAT PLANET EARTH..
I KNOW OF MANY PEOPLE. WHO ARE DISENFRANCHISED WITH OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM , AS MUCH SO THEY TELL ME WHY BOTHER TO EVEN VOTE...IT DOESN T MAKE A DIFFERENCE...THEN I TELL THEM BY BEING A ACTIVE MEMBER OF EDF AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS...I CAN AND HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE BY SIGNING PETITIONS..AND I TELL FRIENDS BY NOT VOTING,,,LOOK WHAT HAPPENS EXAMPLE THE ANTI REGULATION TEA PARTYERS GAIN POWER...IF ANYONE WANTS TO SEE WHAT A WORLD WOULD BE LIKE IF CORPORATIONS DESTROY THE EPA.... Milestones: 1970-2010
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was founded on December 2nd, 1970. From that time to the present, America's environmental history has stood witness to both dramatic events and remarkable progress. In 1969, just before the agency was established, the Cuyahoga River in Ohio became so polluted that it caught fire – a situation that provided impetus for Congress to pass the federal Clean Water Act. By 2009, concern about climate change and sea-level rise...ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO I WATCHED A VIDEO ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE EPA....IT WAS ABOUT 2 HOURS LONG...IT WAS A LIFE CHANGING MOMENT....IN A NUT SHELL YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Only those who do care about the future can ignore the environmental threats to the planet's very survival. The cowardly - and often ignorant - political leaders have failed and are failing us utterly in their denial of and refusal to deal with the threat. It is up to caring and conscientious individuals to wage the fight, and organizations like the EDF are enormously helpful as focal points for individuals.
We all love to oohh and aahh over the gorgeous animals who inhabit the earth. But many of us forget how these lovely creatures must be protected, helped in their increasingly shrinking and unfriendly environments and 'advertised' if you will, to the rest of us who are not literally doing something to keep these creatures alive and well. These animals depend on the environment to nurture and protect them.
That is where the Environmental Defense Organization comes in with scholars who understand these animals needs and environmental change, and with money to continue on in an effort to educate the Public on what they can do to insure that these gorgeous animals continue to live.
Humans, of course, are a part of this environment and need information on how to assure that we continue as well as the more fragile animal world.
The Environmental Defense Group is there to educate, defend, help, and encourage us and our animal brethren. I love the photos they take of animals I will never see in person, but always pray that they will survive for the generations to come.
a progressive, compassionate and essential resource for the future of humanity and all of nature in which a symbiosis must endure
The Environmental Defense Fund is an advocacy group for global warming and restoration of the ecosystem. They advocate using science, economics and law to find environmental solutions that work. They are involved in Climate and Energy, Oceans, Ecosystem and health programs focusing on air pollution. They use Corporate Partnerships and Environmental Economics to find solutions to these problems. The Environmental Defense Fund's work it necessary to try to find solutions to these crucial environmental issues. Please support this worthy organization.
I came across EDF, Environmental Defense Fund, while searching for information on environmental issues. I found a site full of information. They make it easy to take action and let my elected officials know how I feel about environmental issues. I have a blog about the environment, www.cjkenvirogreen.com, in my next blog I am going to let people know about EDF. Thanks for all of your hard work and passion.
If each person did just one thing to help preserve our environment ... just think what an impact that will make. EDF is just the vehicle to achieve this objective.
On a personal level I try to walk the walk ... within my reach. I cannot build a wind generator or install solar panels ... so I did the next best thing I super insulated my living space ... turned down the furnace temp & use less AC ... this resulted in cutting my utility in half ... more $$$ in my pocket for other stuff and used less energy. I also changed all my light-bulbs to the energy savers.
I believe the Environmental Defense Fund does a great job at keeping us advised about things that need help or changes in our world.
I am glad to see that there is such an organization that cares about the world we live in and they are always looking for people to support their cause. We need more people like these who are doing what it takes to be heard and get the word out to others such as yourself. Please help keep our planet safe and together.
I whole-heartedly support Environmental Defense Inc. in our joint pursuit of a healthier environment on our planet. I trust them to inform me of what actions to take and although my primal interest is to save animals and wildlife, environment is a critical part of the equation and without pristine habitat, animals would not survive.
As people it is up to us to help save what is left of this planet before we destroy it and the other life-forms (animal and plant) that it supports.
In the Bible, Man was the last thing God created so that Man could look after the others not kill them!
The Environmental Defense Incorporated continues to educate me on the critical environmental issues that immediately effect our communities. This organization has helped me to be part of the solution by actively coordinating opportunities for me to share my voice and concerns with others both in official positions in our government and with my friends and my community. If many more people were to make a small donation to this organization, I believe that our serious environmental problems would be addressed and given serious attention to by both local and national administrations. There is true power in numbers and even more power in knowledge.
The Environmental Defense Fund has been at the forefront of bringing important environmental issues to the attention of the public, Congress, and the Administration. Without them, many small, often overlooked issues would get no attention. I've been a committed environmentalist since the 1950s - long before it was fashionable - and I must say, I'm overjoyed to have an organization like EDF on the frontlines of the mission to save our planet.
As a lifelong environmentalist I have been aware of the stellar work of EDF for many years.
The many victories in court won by EDF's passionate and committed legal teams have laid
groundbreaking precedents and helped our planet and its creatures survive.
Our planet is being destroyed everyday and we need people like Environmental Defense Incorporated to help save it. So many groups have turned there back on the environment and we all need to do our part. So a big thanks to them today. Thanks
I work as a Consultant in Urban Design and Territory Planning, and as far as today around the world the every day actions are dedicated to serve the automobile in opposite to people, to spread the space dedicated to urban activities reducing the space necessary for the sustainability of the same citizens they proclaim to serve. The situation is terrible and, by now, there is no solution. The economic interest are determinant and dominate the politicians; while the citizens are just living the present day and ignoring the tragedy that is over our heads. We know the solutions but we do not have the power to bring them to reality. The situation is desperate!!
Everyone is always looking for a way to get a head in this world, whether to do better for ourselves or to do better for our families. However people need to learn or remember that our natural resources are finite they will not last forever at the pace we are consuming these resources our race will come to an end in century or two. If we want a better tomorrow for ourselves and our families we need to take it upon ourselves now to look around at what we are doing to this planet, and we need to change our ways, it can't be me, me, me, anymore we need to look at the bigger picture, we need to learn to care more about our home and what we can do to save it for ourselves and for our childrens sake. I think that the EDF is a great place to start. Like the journey of a thousand miles, it all begins with taking that first step, my only hope is that as a race more people will become more aware and understand that we need to start doing more than just recycling our cans and newspapers. We need to understand that fresh drinking water is a resource we are in jeapordy of using up, and that edible food from crops to other animals is just as much in jeaporady. And though it may sound corny using a line from a Disney movie, it is true there is a circle of life, all living things are connected, you destroy one group it affects the whole whether we see it of not. My only hope is that we as a species learn this before it's to late to do anything about it.
Eric Pooley is a former colleague and he has done very well by the EDF. The organization is run very professionally but with the passion and fervor needed to get people to recognize the issues. I recently wrote an article on the probable consequences of the demise of pollinators and the staff at EDF were very helpful with my research. Please, continue the excellent work. There is still much to accomplish.
The EDF is deeply committed. They don't use blinders, and they don't engage in fear mongering. They do their best to engage, and effect a positive change.
The Environmental Defense Fund is a national treasure.I am so grateful for its excellent correspondence & awareness-raising efforts.Ordinary citizens such as myself & my husband are indebted!
EDF has consistently given me correct news of environmental situations around the world and let me know all the different ways in which I could help out.
The EDF is a critical element in identifying the avalanche of changes and threats to the environment that are caused by mans ignorance and greed. It is an invaluable source of environmental legal activity and a potential identifier of areas of scientific research that may be a source of programs that may correct or mitigate currently out of control environmental problems.
Case in point; the Indian River on the east coast of Florida may be in it's death throws due to pollutants introduced by industry and poor growth management; pesticides, herbicides, thousands of houses built within yards of the waterway using septic tanks for sewage disposal. Currently sea turtles, manatees and fish are dying in increasing numbers. The "official" cause is release of too much fresh water from the canal systems used for flood control. This theory fails to address the root cause of years of abusive use of fertilizers and pesticides by the agriculture industries and the failure to plan population growth. The EDF could be a major player in correcting this tragedy or preventing it from happening in other places.
EDF's a very important spokesperson for the environment, and with a populace that seems determined to destroy our planet, we need a voice to speak up for mother earth. I wish I had more time and money to donate to EDF, they play a very important role in saving the environment, a role that more people need to start paying attention to. Please don't give up the great work.
Although I am not able to give more than once a year, I feel that what I do send to EDF is used in a most important way. This organization is helping to save our planet for our children and grandchildren, and for all the other forms of life that share this world with us.
EDF's environmental efforts in a world so needing someone to keep watch are necessary and in this day and age, sooooo helpful for us all. The internet communications keep areas of concern in the forefront and make information readily available so that proper and timely responses can be made to politicians by the persons who subscribe to this very effective service.
I have a little more hope that maybe humans can prevent destroying all our sacred life forms on this planet because the Environmental Defense Fund is so active in their advocacy. Until we bring back rational thought and ethics in our societies the land grabs and pollutions, big and small, will continue. Someone needs to spearhead sanity that draws the line in the sand and ignores the angry, shrill voices of the right and left extremists who want to ignore over-population, pollution, ethics, and futures thinking. Thank you for taking the high road and protecting what really matters on our planet.
Environmental Defense Inc. has done a lot since I began supporting them as a group per se. Always support efforts in Wilderness preservation and Endangered Species restoration. I will continue to stand behind Environmental Defense and its efforts to improve our common goal as hunters, ranchers, wildlife enthusiasts, hikers, scientists, and the public in general. Including the needs of wildlife and the environment at the stakeholder meetings. Thank you for helping me draft better comments and letters to the editor for regional newspapers.
I don't even remember how I came upon the Environmental Defense Fund. I think it might have been through Greenpeace or some other environmental organization, because somehow I started sending in letters for different campaigns and that led me to this...To be honest, I don't even know which actions I've taken through E.D.F. I've been very busy with many different organizations, much like this one. And the letters that I've been sending and sharing for all of these different organizations are sometimes very similar. But I just want to thank E.D.F. for being there as a resource for me to help the environment, and also for all that they do without the help of people like me.
I believe everyday we turn a blind eye on what is happening around us. We are focused on the issues presented to us each day, such as rush hour, what to wear where to go for lunch, happy hour or maybe family events. But we forget that the world is actually much complex because what we do each and everyday impacts our planet. There can be changes made but we need to start realizing that we can't start a change unless we understand our impact in the environment.
I would just like to say I want our planet to get heathier for the next generations. I have 1 grandson now and want his planet to be in better condition when he is in his 60's than it is now in my 60's. This doesn't mean that everything thing has to be done at once to clean up the planet, but to work in that direction. We have to be realistic in everything we do.
Environmental Defense Incorporated successfully supports the cause I hold as the most important for the well being of Earth and the survival of ours and other species. Without strong environmental activism by experts and lay people Earth may survive to heal itself, but we won't. I can participate at the level that best suits me through petitions and letters.
I truly appreciate the work done by the EDF, the news bulletin supplied to those who donate and the fact that I can donate monthly with an auto payment which allows me to actually donate more in a year's time.
Please help support Environmental Defense Incorporated for your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and yourselves.
Did you know that Dandelions clean the liver? Yet we put poison on them everyday.
Did you know that we have several different anti-depressants in our everyday drinking water.
Did you know that there are natural remedies for our synthetic, poisonous lifestyles?
Please do everything you can to make people aware of the issues facing our lovely planet and affecting our very lives.
Tracy Searles
I like edf because they are doing great things for our world. They make it so easy for me to sign petitions in a hassle free way and I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment afterwards. They truly make it so easy that I would be remiss if I didn't participate. Talk about an organization that is truly doing some meaningful work.
When I received my 1st newsletter concerning our planet and the state of the amount of trash I saw along highways as we traveled on vacation to go camping, I was shocked by it all. What happened to the days where everyone pitched in and cleaned up their mess from a picnic or gathering. To me as I get older I realize now having a grandson we need to get back to our grassroots and our morals or our country including the world will not last and we will have lost more trees needed to provide our oxgen and we will see more of the endangered spepies disappear because people don't care like they use to. It is up to us to show our children & grandchildren what the world use to be and people cared.
Great organization without hardcore agenda that often makes people uneasy about support for environmental cause. Supports initiatives that promote progressive, not revolutionary changes to public perceptions about protection of our planet. Builds bridges between enviromentalists and industries.
Great cause!
I have always been an advocate for our planet and the lives of all living things. As I get older it becomes so much more to me. I want my grandchildren and all children to inherit a better planet
I am part Native American so maybe I am a little more sensitive.
Keep up your good work and when I can I will donate!
Thanks for all your hard work!
Jan Feuerstein
I would like to leave this planet in better shape for future generations and hopefully we are able to get people into government that feel the same way. It's the government inside the government [ as per Bill Clinton] that is destroying the planet, the bankers and lobbyists that have no regard for the planet and the people. Thank God for the volunteers at EDF that try and make a difference to leave a legacy of a cleaner and unpolluted planet for our kids and their kids and so on. The elite treat this planet like they are moving to Mars some time in the future and have no regard for the people and animals of earth.
I am using the materials from EDF to provide my eight years old grandson with information about environmental protection campaigns and the opportunities to stop "bad things fro happening" and to promote "good things."
He is moving from playing "Transformers" into transforming environmental damage. He took to his Montesori school the idea of a garden, based on what he and I are doing in our backyard. These last two weeks he has been able to appreciate the cycle of the Cicadas, the butterflies and other creatures in our organic garden.
I think that he will grow up applying what he is learning from the materials from EDF.
This is one of my favorite environmental groups. They have practical, concrete solutions to environmental problems. For example, about 20 years ago I bought two canvas grocery bags from EDF and have faithfully used them every time I visit any store. They are very high quality bags (unlike others I have purchased subsequently) and still going strong after 20 years. It is a small thing but I feel like I have done something meaningful by refusing plastic and paper bags for the last 20 years. I also thought they did a great job with the recycling campaign they launched years ago and then the follow up campaign about closing the loop by buying goods made of recycled materials. I have been recycling everything I can and have bought paper towels and toilet paper made from recycled paper for over 20 years. Again it is small but meaningful to me to have something concrete and practical to do to help the environment. I've installed CFLs in all light fixtures. Through their suggestions I have tried to lead a "greener" life. I also like the programs they have engaged in with governments and businesses, trying to help them be greener. I do not like the groups that just yell and scream and ask for money so they can yell and scream some more. For example, while some groups urged me to send used Styrofoam to McDonalds to protest their packaging, EDF sat down with McDonalds and came up with over 100 points that would reduce their waste. Also coming up with ideas like cap and trade for pollution from businesses and catch shares to save dying fisheries are very practical. I like a thoughtful organization that is trying to work WITH members, the government and businesses to find practical, specific solutions to the problems. EDF fits that bill.
Suggestion: Trees use our carbon dioxide and give back oxygen beneficial to us humans.
I do not think all trees and plants have the same capacity to produce oxygen, use
CO2. So who will do the research to show that some trees produce more oxygen than others and/or some trees are better at using CO2 than producing oxygen? If this distinction can be established,
then planting trees which produce the most oxygen (and hopefully useful timber) would help reduce 'carbon footprints' in our weather fronts, reduce acid rain and generally be more helpful
to humans (particularly those who stop smoking) or have allergy problems.
Just think about this! John Mitchener 7/21/2013 johnmitchener@live.com
If you can get research started, then I can really write a review!!!
Many people wonder, "how can I change the world? after all I am only one person". Well the answer is through the help of organizations such as, the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). Through this organization and others like it, one person's voice can be united with other like minded individuals and accomplish those goals once thought unreachable.
This organization is very informative and direct with all of the information that is provided to members. I appreciate the opportunity to work with such people and to feel like I make a difference.
My "reason for being" as a civilized human understands that our satisfied existence, my satisfied existence, requires effective steps toward enhancement of conditions through sustainable increases, really "valued" only with the progress in our material comfort more efficient energy-concentrations enable, of cultural evolution. This is achieved most fairly by coalitions contrived through the education of democracies that only NGO's like EDF can enable; when the cultural ideology is being controlled by profit-maximization, that is, and not honest communication styles!
I love EDP!! I learn so much about what is going on in the world. Are world and animals need our help to protect them and by helping out the EDP I feel like I'm doing that.
To the people who protect our planet,
You are the tech savvy genius's who make it possible for people like me to connect
with just one "click". Sending my vote to save our natural world ( from the greed of Corporate
Industrialist's,who have their hooks into the Political Machine of our Country). It's one real
Solution in getting our voices heard. We are all the evolutionary Bi-product of this rare planet, it
is my home as well as ours...I am grateful for all the work you do to expose
the injustice done to our environment, when no one is "Looking". It is good to know your
eyes are wide open, and you enable us to see what's going on. Sending the info on how we can all
do our part, is a great way to teach.
I will do all I can to aid you in this "WE" program. Because, it will take all of "US" to make
our world better for future generations. Thank you all, and keep up the good work.
Just your name, ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE INC. makes me feel that someone is helping protect our environment. I think it's insane, of course, that it needs protecting, since the only sane option is to cherish, support, protect and love our planet Earth, and all its inhabitants.
I am a single woman who supports herself with her art. It's been a career of over 30 years, and is a little more challenging these days. If I had the resources I would donate more, and volunteer to help with environmental issues. Since I can't do that, I pay attention to incoming emails, I sign petitions, pass things along via Facebook, and in short, do what I can to be aware, and make others aware, of how we NEED to help protect our home. It's beyond me how anyone can put dollars and profit above protecting our environment. Not just protecting it, but loving it, and doing things to support and sustain it. This is a no-brainer. However, there are some who don't see it that way. I always wonder if they have children and grandchildren?
Thank you for what you do for us, and our beautiful planet. I believe that man has the capability to make this truly "heaven on earth". I appreciate your efforts toward that vision.
Love, Susan
Environmental Defense Fund is an important asset to our planet and to all of us who live on this planet. It is both enlightening and engaging as it hits on tough and often times difficult issues facing all of us in today's day and age. I applaud the efforts and triumphs that have been won by this hard hitting nonprofit agency and I am proud to be apart of their on going efforts to claim a future for our generations to follow.
There's nothing more vital to us, to our futures, to our breathing, and to our lives than to put ourselves out there to defend the environment. EDF is on the battlefront for us, and the results are palpable. We need to do more, and EDF will continue to lead the way. Every tree, every flower, every drop of water, every molecule of air, and every animal wills us to continue a daily, action-by-action quest for sanity, health, and justice. Thank you, EDF!
As a conscious but not always focussed patron of the planet, it's great to have an organization to depend on that works tirelessly on your behalf to help protect us all in more ways than one! I don't make the time to do the work EDF does, but I can still participate through their channels and roadmaps they so graciously share. Thank you EDF for working on all our behalf!!
environmental defense incorporated is an awesome organization! Unlike many organizations they don't care how much money you have they can even let a person like me on disability feel important and help make a change! their goal is to help the animals and wildlife of this planet and fight against the falsehoods and lies of those who only care about profit and will tell you the earth is doing great ! They stand up for the wildlife of this world that cannot stand up for themselves! I'm proud be part this organization ! alec
I can't think of a better way to make people aware of issues that effect everything living & breathing. The actions we take to preserve what we have now, instead of being sorry later, is important. All God's creators has a propose & should be be allowed to exist. Everyone should be breathing clean air & enjoying the beautiful landscapes!
Anything that involves helping, rescuing, saving, fighting for animals, and protecting the beautiful landscapes of the world and the environments that animals live in, and absolutely anything I can do to help fight pollution and destruction of the earth climate change, global warming, etc, I feel so strongly and passionate about. Nonprofit organizations, like the Environmental Defense make it very easy to do your part in fighting for these causes. I appreciate greatly all the issues they make me aware of and how easily they make it for me to make a difference. I am ever so grateful to this organization for all the work they do in fighting for the animals and environments that don't have a voice of their own. The cruelty, abuse, neglect, degradation, pollution, destruction of the planet and its living species just breaks my heart and it means so much to me, more than I could ever express in words, that they make it possible and so easy to fight for the rights of these beautiful creations of God. Thank you for all that you do in this world, all the good work, spreading awareness, and unifying people, as that is our only chance in a lot of these cases. I would do anything I could to help you always in your fights for these causes. And when I get your messages of thanks and appreciation, it means so much to me as it makes me feel that my efforts to help you are being noticed. I hope you get all the support and aid you need in your future ventures and I will always be here to support you in these causes. And I pray that more and more people become aware of you and all the good work you do for our world and that number of people helping you to help the animals and the earth continues to grow exponentially.
In a world of so much hate, destruction and killing of all lives, where most of us are powerless and unable, it is the ones who protect life and our home, Our Planet who provide ME the hope to not give up and stay alive.
I am so proud to be associated with EDF! My only wish is that I could contribute more. They do such fine work for our world, and make every penny and minute spent count in so many different ways. If EDF has anything to do with it, we will never loose another species to extinction!
I think it is amazing how involved EDF is in this world regarding many aspects that affect our environment.
I love EDF! Thank you sooooo much for fighting for our endangered animals. I do sincerely hope that I am making a difference. I am so sorry about not being able to donate money. It really hurts me but I don't have any job and next year I am going to college. May be then I will get a job and make some monetary contribution because the sad truth of our society is that money is power and it sucks if one is poor. X(
The Environmental Defense Fund is one of the most active and well-known non-profit organizations around. They alert us to important legislation taking place and give us a voice by allowing us to sound off to our elected representatives about environmental issues that are important to the survival of this planet. If I could afford it, I would donate monthly to this very worthy organization. I urge everyone who cares about what is happening to our world that has the means to do so, please donate to help keep this organization active and on top of today's important issues.
I don't have money to donate, for I am carless, and Homeless, I use a friends computer so that I can have A VOICE. To help in the only way I can Speak up for what is right, and stand firm on that faith things can change! thank you Shannon snider
Nonprofit organizations use their resources to promote essential good for Communities
thereby putting back into a society their discards, essentially, recycling.

This is a revision of my March 21, 2013, review of EDF. That earlier review was mostly negative because of my misunderstanding of the way EDF handled a problem with my monthly contribution. I want to say here that I do fully support the work of EDF and will continue my regular contributions. My apologies to EDF for my earlier review.

As a non-religious person, I was disappointed that EDF has become the first environmental group, and one of a rare number of secular groups, to offer prayers to those affected by Superstorm Sandy. Let's leave religion to religious groups.

I disagree with Bob. EDF does not over their executives. Compared to private industry or for profit corporations they are greatly underpaid. The travel & work is grueling, but many just have a passion for the charity. The ones I know who work there could have big bank accounts and several houses if they worked in for profit corporations!
this appears to be a for profit business that conned its way into nonprofit status. i contacted them in october 2011 asking them to stop contacting me and just now in july 2012 they called me asking for money
Review from CharityNavigator
They are paying their executives too much. Who knows what else they are getting in benefits and perks. They rub this as if was their own business and they are entitled to the surplus. Far too many non profits exist for the benefit of the people who work there even if they are achieving the mission they shouldn't be such pigs about it.
Review from CharityNavigator
Charities are not businesses, and pay for executive directors should not chase the for-profit corporate model. For that reason, I am declining to renew support for charities with executive compensation that exceeds $250,000 or 1% of budget (for national organizations). If the work is so important that I should support it, then I expect charity leaders to be willing to support the work at many times my income.
Review from CharityNavigator
EDF pays its president more than the President of the United States; more than the Secretaries of Defense and Interior, combined. That's way too much for a charity, and a big chunk of the total donations. You don't have to take a vow of poverty, but leaders of charitable organizations shouldn't be in it for the big bucks and should not accept the big bucks. EDF is also very wasteful in mailing numerous fundraising solicitations to the same persons. Do they really need a NYC Park Avenue office!? Maybe EDF puts the welfare of EDF ahead of the welfare of the planet. However they do some good work too, just not as efficiently as they should.
EDF recently sent me a tax receipt for a nominal gift which I did not make (I was a donor back in '08, but not since). I thought EDF might like to know about their mistake. I called on a Monday and was assured I would have a response regarding what had happened within 24 hours. By Wednesday I called again and was told that I would definitely hear back by the end of the week. By Friday night I had heard nothing. I am left to wonder if this was simply a mix-up of donor identities or the product of identity theft. EDF needs to be more responsive to donors, especially when they make a mistake; donors are their lifeblood.

When donating to a non-profit organization, I do my homework to ensure my contributions will be used in a manner that I support and approve. Additionally, I constantly re-examine and update which organizations I wish to include as benefactors in my Last Will and Testament. I do this research by looking at public records, such as financials and tax returns, by going to websites like www.guidestar.org. EDF has clear and attainable goals. They also educate us on how they plan to reach these goals. Combined with a review of their 990 Tax Returns, I support EDFs efforts as environmental advocates.
Although I have resisted installing a smart meter thus far, I believe this is the lesser of two evils. Although difficult, all of us need to find a balance between our own standard of living, our responsibility to the planet, and our responsibility to future generations.
With respect to the negative smart meter comments on this website, I do agree with Marleen L’s comment that there are safer alternatives such as wired and fiber optic options. However, the costs of these alternatives are problematic, and therefore, cannot be considered a realistic solution at this time. A cost benefit analysis must be considered to determine what options are truly available to us today as well as in the future.
It is helpful when links and other sources are cited in our comments section so readers can understand our position and understand the issues better. In Jim Carleton’s comment, I appreciate the link he provided to EDF’s President, Fred Krupp’s message dated 7/20/11. Mr. Krupp addressed the concerns of smart meters listed on this webpage and offered links to other helpful information.
For more information on the health impacts of RF from smart meters, consider the opinion offered in the report by the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) dated January 2011 at www.ccst.us/publications/2011/2011smartA.pdf. In this pdf document, I invite you to read Appendix C – Project Team, which explains by whom and how this report was created.
CCST is governed by a Board of Directors, which includes the philanthropic community, and is designed to offer expert advice and solutions to (CA) (http://www.ccst.us/about.php.)
I agree with Jim Carleton. Be educated and be fair. EDF has done a lot that's good. Keep things in perspective.

To the six people who have posted Reviews so far, the evidence does not support your (dare I say it?) rabid outrage at EDF. While it is true that EDF has supported the use of "smart meters", they have also done a reasonable amount of research into the question of whether, or not, these devices present a health danger to the General Public. They have re-examined their own position, and have consulted several experts in the field of EMF, which they have admitted is one in which they are well-versed. I have read their response, and done some digging of my own into the question, and while I am not yet decided on whether I like these meters, or not, I am satisfied the EDF has done its due diligence, and is continuing to do so. If you have not read the EDF response, here is the URL for it: http://www.edf.org/SmartMeterResponse. And here is one final comment: if you use a microwave oven, a cell phone, an HDTV or have a wireless computer set-up in your home, you already submit yourself to more EMF than any properly designed and installed smart meter does. I shall continue to support the EDF and would urge others to do so, as well.

I am shocked and hurt by EDF! Most people don't know that Smart Meters are harming people, animals, plants, and bees. I am one of the very harmed--virtually bedridden when inside a house with a Smart Meter.
But EDF KNOWS! They absolutely know that a certain portion of the population will be quite ill from Smart Meter radiation, and they consider us expendable! I am appalled! Who gave them the right to decide my life was worth ruining in an effort to "educate customers"?
EDF says they are for social justice--what a crock!
(Below is an excerpt of a 3-page letter being mailed to EDF.)
It’s laundry day in America and nothing seems to escape the greenwash. The funding for the grid enterprise amounts to serious money and extends to universities, foundations and other institutions of public trust. Environmental organizations, it seems, are not immune from enticements. It is a very sorry day for me to witness noble missions dedicated to protecting life on this planet be thwarted by falling to the allure of grant money and the invitations to sit at the table of power. It is a story told too often, this fall from grace. I cannot continue to support your organization or the others who have yielded their skepticism and good sense to the “science” of public relations and feel-good policy.

The Environmental Defense Fund does not appear to be living up to its name. In defense of the environment, wireless Smart meters should be banned. Safer wired and fiber optic choices are available that could do a better job of monitoring energy use, and they would be safer. The Environmental Defense Fund supports the Smart grid plan complete with wireless Smart meters, in spite of the World Health Organization classifying wireless as a Class 2B carcinogen.
Review from CharityNavigator
HI,
I'm a former donor to EDF. I'm also very sensitive to wireless signals and am dismayed that EDF is supporting the smart meter grid rollout.
According to the recent world health organization report, the radiation from cell phones is a class II carcinogen (and that from these wireless meters comes in two bands, one of which is almost identical to cell phones). According to my own body's reaction, the radiation from wireless emitting devices has much more immediate effects, profound too.
We need to work to eliminate electrosmog in our environment, not support it!!!
Laura
I'm gad I already stopped donating a few years ago when I started to have some financial issues but it makes me regretful I donated any money to an organization that is supporting a carcinogenic and harmful product.
Review from CharityNavigator
OMG! I have been fighting to keep Smart Meters out of my neighborhood and EDF supports those killer devices. Cancel my donation!
Smart Meters--kill bees, harm nature, cause illness, don't save energy, invade privacy... such a long list of evil. Shame on EDF for not doing their homework!
Review from CharityNavigator
I'm absolutely horrified that Environmental Defense Fund is pushing the "smart meter" roll out. Horrified. Terrified. I have always been a fan and supporter of this organization in the past. I am still struggling to believe how they could support putting more debilitating RF energy into our homes. I have personally spent much time and money trying to limit the exposure my family, particularly my 3-year-old daughter receives from microwave devices. Covering her windows with special fabrics, painting her walls with carbon paint, getting rid of our microwave oven (purchased before I knew about its toxicity), the list goes on... Has no one in this organization read any of the thousands of reports of ill health and environmental destruction caused by this type of energy? They are championing the wrong side on this one... unless they see a population reduction due to premature cancer and other debilitating diseases as a key to reducing our fossil fuel dependence. So scary when the good guys become the bad guys. Where to turn? I think that anyone considering a donation to this organization should reconsider and invest their charity dollars elsewhere.
