Usenix Association

Programs: Each year, usenix organizes up to 12 major technical conferences as well as workshops on advanced computing systems topics. We also administer diversity and student grants to encourage conference attendance by these communities. Usenix promotes research and practice in advanced computing systems by publishing research and organizing conferences that foster the exchange of information. Research papers and conference recordings are freely distributed due to our "open access" policy, by which we make them available at no charge to the public. In 2017, usenix organized the following conferences, which included subjects related to security; system administration; cloud and storage technologies; network and operating systems design and implementation; and site reliability engineering. Numerous summits, workshops, and symposia were co-located with the following events:enigma 2017 conference15th usenix conference on file and storage technologies (fast '17)srecon17 americas14th usenix symposium on networked system design and implementation (nsdi '17)srecon17 asia/australia2017 usenix annual technical conference26th usenix security symposium and workshopssrecon17 europe/middle east/africa31st large installation system administration conference (lisa17)usenix has two grant programs. The student grant program enables full-time students to attend usenix conferences, workshops, and symposia by assisting with travel, hotel and registration expenses. In 2017,awards were given to 129 students from a variety of different institutions. Since 1990, this program has made over 4,356 awards. Student authors submitting technical papers are eligible for best paper awards. The diversity grant program supports travel expenses and/or event registration fees, and is designed to support the participation of equal representation for underrepresented groups in the field. In 2017, usenix awarded 65 diversity grants. Grant recipients are selected based on their involvement in the particular field, the strength of their application essay, and availability of funds.

The magazine keeps the membership apprised of developments in the field of advanced computing systems. Back issues are available on the usenix web site. Proceedings and products: the proceedings, consisting of all academic papers presented at conferences, are published and made available to members and non-members at no charge on the usenix web site after each conference. Video and/or audio recordings of most conferences are also available on the usenix web site at no charge as part of our open access policy.

misc. Projects and sales; usenix funds additional projects and awards related to advanced computing and education. Program expenses include office support for all programs.

Affiliations - cra: usenix is an affiliate member of the computing research association, and participates in its biennial conference for leadership of the north american computing research community.
