Mission: The mission of the hospital is to offer service that is highly competent, respectful, accessible and cost effective. All clients receive treatment, regardless of their background, origin or ability to pay. The high incidence of HIV disease within the hospital's client base has made Bellevue one of the earliest and largest providers of HIV care anywhere in the world. Among its many milestones, the hospital's Virology Clinic was the first outpatient program dedicated to HIV disease in the City's municipal hospital system. Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic and with the onset of the parallel epidemics of tuberculosis and substance abuse, Bellevue has been in the forefront providing state-of-art care to the most vulnerable populations at risk for the disease.
