Jewish Family Services, especially Malka and Melissa, were instrumental in helping me in my job search. Malka's mock interview and advice helped me feel more confident and made me a better candidate, and she was always willing to help. I am so grateful for the time they spent helping me.

I had a great experience with JFS. Everyone from Lynn, Shira, Justin and Melissa were very helpful in my job search. JFS offered very useful services and workshops, including resume writing help, interview practice, career advice and a referral service. They were very encouraging to me in my job search process at a time that I was feeling pretty down about it.

I am so thankful for the help and support provided by Melissa in the Young Professionals Division of Jewish Family Services. I had recently left a PhD program, and was clueless as to how to convert my experience in academia into a non-academic career. Melissa worked with me on interview skills and prep, helped identify translatable skills, and provided access to great resources. With the help of JFS, I landed an amazing job!

I received a lot of help finding a job after a long stretch of unemployment after graduating college. They helped coach me, improve my interviewing skills, and bolster my resume. Without their help and endorsement to potential employers, I truly believe I would still be looking for a job to this day. I highly recommend the employment services at JFS to job seekers of all walks of life.

I was a client of Jewish Family Services SUCCESS program for job seekers during 2014-2015. The education and coaching that job seekers receive in the program is incredible. The staff are highly educated, professional, and compassionate. They make themselves available to listen and encourage during what can be a very stressful time. Their passion and dedication shows in the success they have with transitioning program participants to professional employment. The SUCCESS program is extremely beneficial to many members of the community and I hope it is available as a resource for many years to come. Thanks to the support and encouragement I received from the SUCCESS program I landed in a good job with a Fortune 500 company. I am continuing to build my professional skills and accomplishments in my new role, and I am eternally grateful for the help I had from this organization to get me there!

There is simply not enough room for me to write all the positive things I have to say about Jewish Family Services and their team. I cringe to think what my job-search and career journey might have been like (after I was laid off in 2013), had I not been directed to them by Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation (COWIC).
The support they provided: one-on-one job coaching with a coach who is with you all the way through the process; networking and interviewing workshops; opportunities to meet with employers; resume feedback and tailoring; inspirational speakers; LinkedIn workshops; branding workshops... I could go on and on...You may think that you've gotten the same kind of offerings from another career agency but -- TRUST ME -- you haven't. It's a one-of-a-kind agency with a staff that is one-in-a-million. There are no better guides for you on the very difficult job and career search journey than the Jewish Family Services team.

Thank you, Jewish Family Services! I am extremely grateful for the job search support. Amazing team of wonderful professionals who changed my career perspective!

After graduating from college, I began what I thought would be a simple job search. I applied to several postings and attended many interviews with no offers. It was a stressful time, I negatively questioned my actions and my mood dwindled into sadness. A friend referred me to Jewish Family services, and this is where my journey with the agency began.

Upon walking into the doors, I initially met with career strategists from both the Young Professional and MAX teams. After discussing my scenario, I was amazed by the high-level of compassion and understanding. Never in my life I talked to a group who were all ears on my situation and more than happy to help. We developed an action plan to proceed.

Over a short course of time, I underwent a professional transformation. I attended informative career workshops, conducted mock interview sessions, sharpened my 1-minute elevator speech, and reworked my resume (just to name a few)! The feedback and support received from team members was beyond valuable. My mood positively uplifted and my confidence soared. Everyday, I fine-tuned my job strategy based on the advice given. I was equipped and ready to tackle any challenge given.

My dedication paid off, after applying myself with the skills taught, I proudly found a position in my desired field! I am currently working the job and love what I do!

Remember, never give up hope. Jewish Family Services is here for any career support! I highly recommend, their ability to reach out and motivated is second to none! I am a true success story, and grateful for all their work. As I continue moving forward, our experiences together will never be forgotten!

Due to an organizational restructuring, and through no fault of my own, I was laid off from my job in August of 2014; I was both devastated and scared to lose the position and work that I enjoyed. Through the process of applying for unemployment benefits I was connected with Jewish Family Services of Columbus. They assisted in updating my resume, performing a strategic job search, preparing for interviews, developing my networking skills, and most importantly.....not losing hope. The Career Counselor that I was paired with was Mindy Agin; but for Mindy, I would have been lost. She was so positive, and she helped me stay centered on my goals. She never let me give up. Because I have a very specific skill set and industry, I had a long road (9 months) and the help I received from Mindy and Jewish Family Services made all the difference. I don't know where I would be now without them.

A couple of months ago I participated in one of the best organized, well marketed job fairs I have ever been a part of.
I have been a vendor in the job fair market for 15 years . I work as an independent contractor for a legal benefits company and we are very selective when it comes to our recruits . This event had the most qualified potentials I have seen in a long time. I am currently working with at least 4 very good new agents because of it. Thank you so much Lynne Asby!

I reached out to JFS for some help refining my resume and preparing for an important interview. I met with Melissa Holcomb & Malka Ben Dor -- they ran me through the paces on a barrage of interview questions that really helped me prepare and think through the interview process. They helped me focus, but also get into the right mind-set for the specific interview. It was great coaching. So wonderful in fact, that I've suggested several friends reach out to them in their job hunts.

When I first discovered Jewish Family Services I was a public employee with 20+ years of experience who had already been unemployed for over a year and I was rapidly running out of job search ideas. The SUCCESS program helped me feel much less isolated, which in turn helped me persevere until I finally got the job. There were so many beneficial things: the Ace the Interview workshop which gave me the framework I needed to prepare for interviews, the resume-writing and job search strategy workshops, the mock interviews, but I think the one thing that helped the most was having the opportunity to go to the meetings, hear the excellent presentations, and especially see that there were so many intelligent, interesting people in the same situation I was in. My career strategist, Mindy Agin, was wonderful, patiently supporting me through many ups and downs. The entire staff was caring, non-judgmental, helpful, and generally delightful to work with. Absolutely the best job search program I've ever encountered.

My journey started when I realized my career was just not for me. Think about that for a second; everything I have done up to this point has gotten me to where I am and now I am switching directions?! It could be an absolutely terrifying ordeal but thanks to the JFS staff it wasn't. Through personality/career assessments, resume tweaking etc. I started to realize who I am and what work environment fits for me. After about 5 months of soul/job searching I am happy to say that I have just recently accepted an offer and I feel this is the right step for me. I want to thank everyone involved including Fred Points, Malka Bendor and a special thanks to Melissa Holcomb! She goes above what is expected and truly looks for ways to help in this process. She is there every step of the way and puts herself out there as a life-line at any given time. She is extremely resourceful, always has positive attitude and consistently checks in! Based on my experience, I would highly recommend utilizing the JFS if you are looking to make a career change or just want information. What do you have to lose?

My friend referred me to Jewish Family Services to seek help in professional development and learning the steps to be successful in a career search. I attended a job search strategy and "Ace the Interview" workshop which were very beneficial. I sought personal services from the young professional division. Melissa and Malka were extremely helpful and professional in helping me prepare for a more career oriented role. Last week, I was offered a position as a Quality Assurance Analyst, which was a promotion from my role as a Customer Service Representative with my current employer. With the knowledge and skills gained during the workshop and sessions with the young professional division, I could not be more grateful from the incredible assistance I received from JFS.

Thank you for your help and I am looking forward to staying in touch!

As a client, I found all aspects of the SUCCESS program beneficial. The workshops were informative, my Career Strategist provided excellent (and candid) career guidance and inspiration, the Wednesday SUCCESS meetings were opportunities to network with other SUCCESS participants and speakers and to exchange information regarding job search status and events.

I think that it is important to take advantage of any opportunity that provides one with exposure, job leads, chances to learn new skills (and/or improve existing ones) and support.

I appreciate the efforts of the entire SUCCESS team - each person contributed to this wonderful outcome (a new job) in his/her unique way and I am grateful.

This was my second stint with JFS. Both times, they were a tremendous help dealing with job loss. They offer workshops to improve and/or work on resume writing, interview skills, networking, and psychological help during your transition. All workshops are professionally done and very informative. The weekly get-togethers on Wed. mornings are a good reason to get out of the house, share your challenges and listen to success stories. It is a great way to network, also.

I received services from Jewish Family Services as part of their SUCCESS program. The SUCCESS program helps professionals who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. They assist with resumes, cover letters, networking and interviewing skills.

This is an extremely valuable service. If you are a blue collar worker, the state will bend over backwards to find you a job, but if you are a professional, you are on your own.

The weekly group meetings are invaluable. Unemployment can be a very isolated experience. The group lets you know you are not alone. JFS will do everything to give you the support you need to find employment.

My education really worked against me in this job search (overeducated), but with the help of JFS, I have landed my "dream job". I am with a very stable company making a great salary, great benefits and doing the work I want.

Further, members of my family have utilized some of the services offered by JFS. Each experience met and exceeded expectations.

After being wrongfully terminated Sheila gave me back my hope. I had gone through four interviews without getting a call back. I called her up to get registered and also explained that I had a phone interview that evening. She spent an hour on the phone explaining interview tips and her suggestions got me a face to face interview.
I have three college degrees. I did not think I needed their help. Plus, I did not want to tell one more person my nightmare. I could not have been more wrong. Talking to Sheila gave me back my power. She empowered me with the tools necessary to get the job done. She also explained that my resume was "old-fashioned"! She gave me more tools to modernize my resume. Her compassion and professionalism was amazing coming from a complete stranger!
I also loved the signs on the wall that read "we do not help everyone...oh wait yes we do help everyone!"

The day after I lost my job, in November 2013, I made a call to Jewish Family Services; I had always heard wonderful things about their programming to help those who were unemployed. What I'd heard didn't even come close to explain the amazing support, training, and resources I would receive in the coming weeks! Those working at JFS truly care about their clients and are always eager to answer questions, provide assistance, and recommend further resources. During my time in JFS' S.U.C.C.E.S.S. program I attended weekly support meetings with speakers; trainings to learn about LinkedIn, resume writing, interview techniques, and more; a MicroSoft computer class; and I got networking like I've never networked before. The S.U.C.C.E.S.S. program and its coaches are what got me through a sometimes very tumultuous time of my life. I would never hesitate to return, should the need arise, and I strongly encourage others to avail themselves of their services!

I joined Jewish Family Services (JFS) SUCCESS program back in the late spring of 2009. I first started taking career-related workshops where I learned a great deal about networking, writing cover letters, using LinkedIn and other effective strategies for professional job hunting.

Then in June (2009) I won the lottery when Mindy Agin, a Career Strategist with JFS, started working with me one-on-one. Immediately, I was fully engaged in the process from Mindy's vast knowledge and expertise. She helped me with a host of invaluable strategies to land a professional job. First she helped me completely overhaul my resume, bringing it into the 21st Century, then we worked on communication skills, like the infamous "one-minute elevator speech," and doing phone interviews. Through Mindy's -- and the entire team's -- dedicated efforts, I gained confidence and ease in an area that I never felt confident and ease. And, within a very short time, I had two job offers: one in Washington, DC and one in Montgomery, AL. I chose the later and started work on August 9, 2009.

After spending four rewarding years with Southern Poverty Law Center in Alabama, I found myself moving to Houston, Texas, for my partner's promotion. What is remarkable and shows JFS's and Mindy's sincerity and dedication is she said to me back in 2009 to feel free to keep in touch and continue to seek her advice and support throughout the years, even after landing a job. I did exactly that, and Mindy, without a second hesitation, helped me once again prepare for job hunting again. I start today, Feb. 18, with Houston Community College.

Without JFS's SUCCESS program, and its amazing team, I would not be where I am today. I am extremely grateful and appreciative of this organization and the awesome team I've grown to admire and respect wholly. THANK YOU!

I had been at what I thought was a secure job for 6+ years and all of a sudden, the rug got pulled out from under me. I was on vacation with my 5-year-old son when I got the news that I would be returning home to no job.

At the time, my husband was back in school since his job got out-sourced and would not be done with school for another year. So there we were, both jobless and trying to raise our son, pay the mortgage and pay the bills.

Since I had been the main bread winner of the family and the insurance carrier, I didn't have much time before I had to get back into the work force.

Jewish Family Services came along and gave me the skills and the confidence I needed to put my job search at full-speed-ahead. I had an interview lined up and luckily went to their 4-hour interview skills seminar the day before. I landed the job and now my family is back on track.

Their weekly meetings and seminars were invaluable. But, I have to say, my favorite thing about JFS is that everyone there made you feel so welcomed and at home. I never met a nicer group of people. You can tell that they were truly there to help you and sincerely wanted you to succeed.

JFS to me, was truly a lifesaver. For 15 years I remained in an abusive marriage. Though I knew I did not deserve the abuse, I always figured I could handle it. I didn't want to break apart a family. Finally, in Dec. of 2009, I decided I had enough. The turning point for me was that I saw the effect it was having on my children. Though yes, I was tough enough to handle the abuse, I saw my children being verbally, emotionally and mentally abused as well. These were my young children in their developing years, forming their personalities and identities. I felt as a Mother, it was my job to protect them. I wasn't doing my job, because I could not protect them from their father.

Within 1 hour of calling JFS, I received a call back from Lisa Carroll. Lisa is the "goddess" of domestic violence. She listened to everything I said, and really understood my situation. She could understand that even though I was being abused, how hard it is to leave the relationship. She explained to me that the average woman leaves 6 to 7 times before they leave for good. She immediately made an appointment for me to see Jan Napier, a licensed clinical social worker at JFS. Within 45 minutes, Jan was able to complete my sentences. She knew exactly of my husbands personality disorder. It meant the world to me that somebody actually understood the hell that I lived in. She counseled me weekly giving me tips how to live in my current situation. ALL the counseling sessions I received were covered by JFS.

After 6 months of counseling, I realized it was time to make my move, I wanted to file for divorce. I knew that my husband would NEVER change, and I didn't want to live the rest of my life like this, nor have him continue to torment my children. Lisa was there for me every step of the way. With no family here in Columbus, her support meant the world to me. She helped me find an attorney, and a place to live. She came with me to every meeting with my attorney and to every court appearance. She obtained funding for me from an anonymous donor to help with my tremendous legal expenses. From the day I first spoke to her in Dec 2009 until I got divorced in 2012, she was at my side. Even when you are being abused, it is so hard to divorce. Had I not had her support, and the financial support of JFS, I would have gone back to my abusive husband. I know it may sound crazy to some, but when you have little money, and no one to at your side you are drawn to go back to your "normal," even abuse.

Life for me today is so much better. I got myself back. I can make my own decisions without having to ask permission. I have gotten in touch with and seen friends of mine that I hadn't seen in 15 years. I no longer have to live in my home in constant fear for me and my children. Are things perfect? No, but I know they will continue to get better. JFS is still at my side helping me. I have gone through some of their job training programs, and I know when I am ready to find a better job, they will be there to help me, For the past 3 years for Chanukah, my children have been blessed with beautiful gifts from anonymous families. Lisa continues to call me to make sure I am doing okay. I still see Jan for counseling and continued support. I know JFS will always be an important part of my life, and I can't thank everyone at the Columbus, OH office enough for all their support and help.

There are thousands of organizations all across America that use some version of the word "commitment" to define themselves. Yet, there are only a few organizations that have mastered the skill to move "commitment" from words into demonstrated and authentic action. Jewish Family Services (JFS) is one of those scarce gems.

From April 2013 to June 2013, I had the opportunity to interact with several workforce development programs throughout the city--ones used by Fortune 500 companies for employment transition services as well as those funded by governmental agencies. In June 2013, I chose the guidance and strategies of the JFS's Success Program to execute my strategic job search. What was the result? By September 2013 I had landed a new job. So here's what sets JFS's Success Program apart from other workforce development programs across the city:

1. The team does their homework and shares their results with the client, so that you know that the strategies and information they are giving you is current, relevant, and proven. And their research is not boilerplate.

2. They are clear about what is needed for reemployment success and they repeat the message often to keep you focused.

3. They are not afraid to have crucial conversations that get a client unstuck from myths, outdated ways of thinking, or other self imposed barriers to landing a job.

4. They work organically as a team in real time and are change agents. They are constantly observing client responses, feedback and reactions and exploring among each other what it means and then quickly adjusting how they deliver their services. They are client-centric.

5. They have a wholistic and innovative approach. They have dissected and analyzed the common reasons that people do not land jobs and they provide tools that effectively prepare clients to overcome those hurdles. Their Gavel Club is one such tool--and if you want to be able to think on your feet in an interview, then that is the place to go.

6. They exercise complete thought and depth in each interaction with you. They are responsive. Therefore, you know that your success is important to them and that they want to be a part of making that happen.

So in summary, if you want to be more than a number, if you want to be coached by people where your reemployment matters the most, and if you want to put your full faith in a process and know that you will be okay, then you must experience JFS.

What an AMAZING experience!! The people, the services, the willingness to help – I have never experienced anything that even resembled such a service!

My husband and I came to Columbus OH, from a foreign country a month ago, without a job, and without knowing anyone. We were overwhelmed by the amount of information we were lacking.

We got in touch with the JFS and from that moment on we were no longer alone. The JFS helped us settle in, helped us get furniture into our then empty apartment, called us in for consultations and gave us important advice on where and how to get around Columbus. For this I must thank Danielle Rubin for her amazing work and effort!

It did not end there… To help me find a job (I was an out of work attorney) I initially met with Sheila Camden from the career center of the JFS. Sheila – an incredibly nice person, that always greeted me with a sincere smile, referred me to Mindy Agin, a career strategist from the JFS. Mindy, together with Lynn Aspey worked with me on finding me a job to my satisfaction. Mindy met with me several times, revised my resume according to the job description and sent me job applications she thought suitable. Lynn worked hard in the background, finding me the right position, contacting potential future employers, recommending me and stating in touch. All their hard work resulted in me getting the job of my dreams!

I want to take this opportunity to thank them all at the JFS for just being who they are – wonderful people with a true mission and intention to help!!

Thank You! When I will have the opportunity I will definitely try and pay in forward.

If it wasn't for Jewish Family Services, I might still be unemployed. In spite of a great work history - or maybe because of it - my resume was stale and unfocused. My interviewing skills were nonexistent, and I had no idea how to find a job that suited my skills and preferences. Looking for work after 15 years with the same company was overwhelming. The wonderful workshops JFS staff offered cut the task into manageable slices, tackling first the focus, then the resume, then the interview. After these sessions, my resume started getting hits, my interviews went from none to several, and I landed a contract assignment within 3 months of working with them. Special kudos to my counselor, Tim McNish, who really earned a gold medal for putting up with an eclectic and slightly recalcitrant client.

My only regret about finding a job is that I no longer get to learn from this team - they are the best!

This is a fantastic organization! I have worked with a couple other companies providing the same services and I can say that Jewish Family Services are simply the best at what they do. The high quality of service that comes from this group, which is not for profit, is simply amazing.

The staff is extremely knowledgeable, approachable and they are all experts in their field. They individually contributed their own personal knowledge and experience to my job search, which I found to be of great benefit. My Client Coach, Karen Hughes, and the Director of Business Development, Lynn Aspey, worked tirelessly on my behalf. They were always available for questions or advice and made me feel like I was their only client. They were very enthusiastic, optimistic and encouraging throughout the entire process.

I can’t say enough about this organization and its mission. It was such a great pleasure working with Jewish Family Services.

I have been a member of the SUCCESS program for about a year. I can not say enough about the warm welcome, hard work and dedication from the staff lead by my advisor Karen Hughes. No matter how busy she is she has always found time to stop what she is doing and address my issues and concerns. Karen is a valuable asset to the program, very knowledgeable about todays trends in employment search and is doing an outstanding job with continuing to develop the program.

Through the program I am able to write an effective resume, thanks to Karen and Mindy, send out an effective "e-blast", thanks to April, prepare for an effective interview, thanks to Jim, get connected to employers around the city, thanks to Lynn, and effectively speak in front of others, thanks to Adam.

The speakers have been very helpful adding that experience that was helpful to me as well. I am proud to say that through the hard work and dedication offered by the SUCCESS team, I have landed the management job I've been seeking with the Columbus School Board.

SUCCESS staff members should be commended for their professionalism, hard work and dedication.

Best regards to all of the staff

After many years of employment, I was hoping my resume was good. It wasn't. Jewish Family Services helped me polish my resume and I started getting calls...and interviews! The seminars and support have been incredibly informative and uplifting. I only have rare "down" days now. Mary is just a Email away.

I don't have employment yet, but JFS helped patch up my raggedy spirit and I am pushing on in the belief that "this is temporary". Thank you from my heart. K. Hutchison

I believe that due to the JFS assistance I am better prepared to start my next professional role. I found the entire staff to be very caring, and professional. One of the trainings that I attended was the Mock Interview which provided me insight on being prepared for the next interview. Special recognition to my career advisor who worked diligently in helping me with my resume and continuous meetings to ask professional questions. I give JFS an “A” rating.

The Jewish Family Services SUCCESS program is a hidden gem for anyone that was laid off and actively looking for a new career. Everyone at Jewish Family Services was extremely helpful. I was in the job market for about 8 months and they really did a great job keeping me motivated during the search. The workshops were extremely helpful and allowed me to fine tune my resume, job search and interviewing skills. I have worked with other agencies in the past and at the other agencies I felt like I was just a number. At Jewish Family services, everyone I worked with took the time to get to know me, my background and deliver personalized recommendations to help me with my search.

Jewish Family Services is a real class act! The career services team was wonderful in helping me find a job.

I was having problems finding a job. I am older worker and I was stalled in my job search. It just didn’t seem like I would ever find a job. Then I contacted JFS and Mindy Agin became my employment counselor. Mindy and her colleagues were motivational. I participated in several interview, networking and resume workshops that taught me 21st century job search techniques. Mindy helped me fine tune my resume, coached me on interviewing and sent me many job announcements.

The result has been that I have found a dream job that pays more than I ever thought would happen.

I have a few bits of advise for JFS clients – listen to the interview and resume advise and take advantage of the workshop offerings. I wager a bet that you will find a job if you stay with the JFS program.

After attending the workshops at Jewish Family Services, I have become a strong advocate of this organization. To those who are job searching, I would advise you to go straight to JFS and not waste your time trying to find a job without utilizing the expertise of their staff. They are fantastic in every way. They are intelligent, highly trained professionals who are dedicated and committed to JFS and their clients. I was fortunate to find a job quickly after registering with JFS and contribute that largely on the "Ace the Interview" workshop conducted by Mindy Agin, as well the one-on-one time she spent with me to further emphasize some of the important points in her workshop. She was always encouraging and truly interested in my personal goals. The "Resume Writing" workshop with Karen Hughes is extremely important. She can certainly put a person on the right track. The much improved resume and the confidence I gained after attending the workshops made the difference in finding a job. I utilized every workshop available through the SUCCESS Program, and found each and every one to be extremely beneficial during my job search. Mindy Agin, my Career Counselor, coached me before each of my interviews, so I was fully prepared to answer any and all questions asked of me. For one interview, I was seated on a panel with other candidates who were all vying for the same position as I was. It was obvious the other candidates were not prepared -- I stood out as someone who could easily respond to whatever question came my way. After having lost 2 jobs in a row due to business closures, I found myself having difficulty finding anything that seemed to fit. I had been working for years in the building industry as a ceramic/stone tile design specialist, utilizing tile in kitchens, baths, pools, patios, etc. The market for that kind of expertise in Columbus was pretty much limited to tile sales at the time. Few builders would hire someone whose specialty was so limited. I was discouraged, to say the least. When I joined the Jewish Family Services SUCCESS program, I didn't really expect much. I had already tried a number of other programs without much success. I learned real quickly that this program far surpassed the others. The staff immediately helped me recognize how my skill sets could be applied to other industries. I learned from Karen how to write a winning resume, from Mindy the best interview techniques, and from the classes how to organize my job search and network. As a result, I got the job of my dreams! But the very best part of the whole experience was the positive, supportive, and caring attitudes of the staff. I am very grateful for the resources at Jewish Family Services. I first became involved with Jewish Family Services in June 2012 through their Success program. It was an incredible life change for me. I had been unemployed for nearly 4 months and job searching for more than 6 months and was losing hope and motivation that I would find a job. Through the Success program I worked with an incredible Career Consultant who gave me support and encouragement. She helped me re-write my resume and create three separates ones designed at different jobs I was targeting. The workshops were wonderful and the highlight of my week was the meetings for the Success program clients. It was nice to get out, interact with others in the same situation and offer each other support, encouragement, and networking. I have recommended the services that Jewish Family Services offered to several friends who are also unemployed, new to the area and job searching, or looking for a career change. I credit the Success program with helping me get back to work - the job I finally landed I had applied to three separate times and the third time was with my new resume and I walked into my interview armed with new tips, tricks, and hints to make me stand out and be successful!

As a professional in the field, living out of town, when my family in Columbus was in need we turned to Jewish Family Services. When a family member's life was falling apart mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially, we were desperate for answers and services. The need for support and services was clearly one of life and death. This case was extremly complex - especially because the person in need was not fully aware of how dire their situation was. JFS was there with us every step of the way. Living out of town, it was hard to be involved at a level that was needed. JFS was available and accessible every step of the way. They helped us identify and access approriate services within JFS and the State system, providced support for an intervention, provided support to family members, and provided excellent follow-up. JFS was a partner and stayed with us as we navigated a very unusual and difficult situation. Today, after a near death experience, my family member is healthy, happy, and building her life. Jewish Family Services (JFS) in Columbus, Ohio helped me out during one of the hardest time of my life. I had lost the only job I had held as an adult. I had worked for the same company for 25 years and had rarely had to interview for positions within the company as I moved around by reputation. I am one of those people who identity IS their job. During my 16 months of unemployment the time I spent in the Success program was where I gained my confidence back and learned that there were many others in the same situation I was in. Well respected professionals that had lost positions through no fault on their part, but a matter of economics. The 'Why' often doesn't matter when you are in that position. The members of the Success team and every employee I met at JFS offered patience, caring, understanding and when it was needed in my case some gentle prodding. They helped to find job leads. They helped make my resume even more professional and tailor it to the business I was applying to. They offered me a chance to do several mock interviews because my skills in that area were lacking. They provided encouragement and feedback along the way. Even now after I have been employed for over 2 years I still hear from the person who offered me my main guidance. I would especially like to thank Lora Fish for all of her help in the program! This program is amazing and I truly appreciate the opportunities.

As I said, looking and finding a job is very different in today’s economy. The Jewish family services taught me how to change the things I was going. There were lots of FREE classes designed to you relearn the art of finding a job. There are weekly meetings with guess speaker. These meeting keep on track. They also put you in touch with people that may be able to help. You learn there are other people in the same boat and they help keep your spirits up and positive. After being laid off from my job of 16 years, I joined the SUCCESS program being run by JFS. It was a wonderful, helpful, supportive program that gave form and purpose to my job search and my life during a difficult transitional time. In addition to the expected supports for resume writing and interview preparation and the like, I believe that the program's key component for me was the one-on-one relationship with a counselor and the backing of the program team. It is critically important for someone who has been thrown into uncertainty to have an individual who cares, is a listening board, a cheer leader and can give advise and counsel. It was directly as a result of my counselor's dogged encouragement to take a step that was outside my comfort zone and that I was reluctant to take, that led directly to a work opportunity that eventually led me back to a full-time position in my field. I will be forever grateful to my counselor, to the SUCCESS team and for the fact that the program was there for me when I needed it.

When I lost my job in 2009, I had not been out of work in years. A friend recommended the SUCCESS program with JFS, which I joined. Throughout my job search, I became depressed, gained weight, and there were days when I was overwhelmed and down. Throughout the whole process, my counsellor, Karen Hughes, served as my biggest cheerleader, helped me to brainstorm, and encouraged me to attended the weekly meetings.

I attended a workshop to become more acquainted with LinkedIn, several weekly informal sessions and a couple of the more formal Wednesday morning sessions and found every service provided to me from JFS to be exceptional.

I am in a long term contract role, now, but still have not landed that elusive full time job; however, Karen continues to provide me with help and guidance. Words can not describe the Hope, Help, Comfort and monthly ongoing support that I recieved through JFS and what this all has mean to me and my family. I had just left my husband, could not find a place to live, did not know where to turn. They held out thier arms and held up me and my children for almost 2 years. Monthly script for food, counseling, holiday events, and just a loving warmth and caring that we needed. Backpacks and school supplies when I could not afford them. They have never asked for one thing back in return. I wish I could tell everyone in this whole community about how they touch the lives of so many families in Columbus, but they just say no, keep it quite. They also do not want to embarrass anyone, or single out anyone. Hanukkah, Passover, Rosh Hashanna was special in my house thanks to JFS- I would have had nothing from time to time without them. I was invited to attend their weekly Wednesday meetings and I had a chance to network with many qualified people. Karen also helped me fine tune my resume. Over the time that I was with JFS, they were always supportive and several times we meet and reviewed the progress that I was making. I even recommended that a friend of mine join the group. During the time that I was with JFS, I got involved with The United Way and took part in the LogisticART program througn Columbus State. Without being about of the JFS group, I would never have had that chance. It was through a brainstorming meeting in February, that my resume was sent to someone that the staff knew and he forwarded by resume onto others. I landed an Operations Manager position that was not posted anywhere on the internet. Without the help of JFS, I would not have his job now. I will stay in touch with Karen and her staff and I will continue to recommend JFS to my friends.

This was the ONLY non-profit organization that I felt privileged, fortunate and honored to be accepted into. This program was such a blessing for me and my family. I felt so broken, exhausted and worn down. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong when it came to finding employment. I thought I know everything about getting a job, but yet I felt so overwhelmed. Shelia Camden and so many other employees were so confident & knowledgeable about the subject matter at hand that it made me feel as though they were my family because I could ask or share anything with them, knowing that I would receive an honest and helpful answer.

This organization helps people in the community address psycho social needs ranging from unemployment, holocaust survivors to adult care issues. This organization is available to the community at large but could be viewed as a haven for people who are Jewish. Many years ago, I was a recent Master level graduate and this agency was incredibly helpful to me

I cannot say enough good things about the programs and staff of Jewish Family Services in Columbus, especially Lisa Carroll, Danielle Ruben, Tim McNish, Jim Hatch, and June Gutterman.

JFS's Bonei Mishpachot program is truly a lifesavers, helping individuals cope with the financial and emotional straits; while JFS's job-search programs provide those in career transition with the tools, training, advice, and support necessary to conduct a successful job-search campaign.

Mindy and I knew each other from the community and she readily included me in her large group of opportunity- seekers. I have a varied background and Mindy coached me so that we focused on relevant skills - my resume is impressive thanks to Mindy! As a former Board member and client (!) While at RedEnvelope, Inc., I was responsible for high volume seasonal recruiting and developing meaningful work relationships with a very diverse workforce. Shortly after my arrival at RedEnvelope, Inc., I had the good fortune of connecting with Lynn Aspey, a true dynamo at JFS. In a series of enlightening meetings, I was very confident that a partnership between our two organizations would be very fruitful in achieving not only my agreesive recruiting goals, but also, JFS could assist in providing cultural awareness and other community outreach services that my employees were in need of. Over the course of two years, Lynn and I were successful at providing over 600 seasonal associates with employment, brideged cultural gaps and even worked on the COTA Mobility Board to bring a much needed bus line to the Rickenbacher area to enable increased job accessibility to potential employees. My association with Lynn has empowered me to recommend Jewish Family Services to my peers. My experience also was such that I can proudly say that throughout my time at RedEnvelope Inc., we were proud donors of JFS. I continue to support the efforts that the organization makes under the guidance of Lynn because I believe in her mentality, connecting the non-profit world with the private sector for the benifit of those she serves.

When I was laid off by my employer, I joined the SUCCESS program at JFS to get assistance in finding a new career path. I worked mostly with Mindy Agin, but also some with the other SUCCESS counselors, as they provided me with excellent guidance. Specific things that were extraordinarily helpful to me were (1) coaching on interview skills including performing mock interviews sessions, (2) preparation of a professional and powerful resume, (3) weekly seminars and discussion groups with other SUCCESS participants, and (4) loads of advice on how to pursue employers and jobs of interest. I have recommended many friends and former colleagues to take advantage of their great services. I feel absolutely confident that the fact that I was able to get a new job in a down economy had a lot to do with the help that I got from the JFS team - their advice helped me stand out from the pack and win the job offer!

My experience with Jewish Family Services has been excellent. I have used their career placement service for about 4 years. I send them all of my job postings and they provide me candidates that might be a good match. But they don't just send me resumes, they call and ask any questions they might have about my posting. And when they have a candidate for me, the counselor working with that candidate calls me to provide a detailed background and salary range if applicable, so I have a good amount of information on each candidate. Their service is always extremely professional, upbeat, and they really care about helping their candidates find the right job, not just any job.
