Programs: The past year has been successful for the institute for economics and peace with new research, outreach, and programmatic activities. The global go to think tank index, published by the university of pennsylvania, continues to rank the institute for economics and peace as a think tank to watch and one of the most impactful with a budget under $5million. Iep continued to produce leading research focused on measuring peace and its economic benefits. In november 2016, the 4th edition of the global terrorism index was released, which provides a comprehensive summary of the key global trends and patterns in terrorism. In addition to conducting dozens of media interviews, iep hosted discussion events at the united states institute of peace, the world affairs council, and the international peace institute. In february 2017, iep launched the first report on measuring the cost-effectiveness of peacebuilding. The report received substantial interest. Leading peacebuilding organizations such as mercy corps and the dag hammarskjold foundation, and the alliance for peacebuilding cited the report's findings that highlight the cost benefit payback from investments in peacebuilding. Further, iep staff conducted 14 us congressional staff briefings around the report. In mexico, ieps mexico peace index program expanded. In april 2017, iep released the 4th edition of the mexico peace index with a series of public events in mexico city and the united states, and media reach of 131 million people. Partnerships in the country continue to grow, including one with the civic organization consejo civico in the state of nuevo leon to track peace within the state, and with coparmex, the confederation of mexican employers, to advise the security committee. In 2017, iep established a strategic partnership with rotary international, which grew from an existing collaboration to train rotary peace fellows. The partnership with rotary international will focus on developing an online training program, with the goal of bringing iep's peace research to the over 1 million rotarians worldwide, and hosting peace workshops in various countries. Two rotary-iep workshops have been held to date, on in uganda in october 2016 and one in mexico in may 2017. Both workshops brought together youth from around each country for two days of training sessions on the drivers of peace. The workshops aim to enhance or create peace projects and investments, and to build youth peacebuilder networks. Over 400 people participated in the two workshops.
