GALT (Greyhound Adoption League of Texas) is an exceptional nonprofit dedicated to finding loving homes for greyhounds. Their mission of “No Grey Turned Away” truly sets them apart. The organization’s key strength is its passionate volunteers who go above and beyond to care for and rehome greyhounds. GALT’s volunteers embody the true spirit of compassion and love for these special dogs. As foster and adoption coordinators, we’ve witnessed their commitment firsthand. GALT meticulously screens potential adopters, provides comprehensive veterinary care, and offers ongoing support to ensure successful adoptions. Their attention to detail in matching greyhounds with forever homes is remarkable.
I've volunteered for, and adopted dogs from GALT for many years now. They have always been dedicated to the best medical care for the dogs and to finding good adoption matches. The current leadership is committed to raising awareness, taking care of the dogs, and finding good homes.
We have been supporters of this organization for many years and have adopted 6 Greyhounds through them. Some of the Greyhounds have been special needs. The volunteers work tirelessly to ensure each dog is well cared for from inception to adoption. The motto “No Grey Turned Away” truly encompasses their mission.

We have been volunteers and supporters of the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas for 18 years. We’ve adopted six Greyhounds through this organization. The volunteers are very dedicated and caring people. It’s a wonderful nonprofit organization with a great cause.
I’ve been a member since I moved timer as in 2013. I already had two hounds and a cat, so I joined as a foster home for hounds that are cat trainable. While I fostered, GALT was supportive when I need help or advice with fosters.
Eventually my hounds crossed the rainbow bridge and I became an adopter, not just a foster. Their Adoption Counselors do a great job connecting potential adopters with available hounds. I wasn’t left wondering where I was in the process. As my application progressed, my Adoption Counselor kept me posted.
GALT also does a great job of building community. They have banger events from cooking classes to parties in area parks.
I do love being a volunteer and a proud hound mom.

I am a GALT adopter as well as a volunteer; that is, I am on both sides of the adoption process. I have found GALT to be well organized with the goal of matching family and hound as best as possible. After I adopted my hound, I found a lot of support through the GALT social media outlets, which have helped when I had concerns. As a volunteer, I feel supported, respected, and very much appreciated. So much so that I have increased my volunteer time. I know my current hound has promised to live forever, but should he break that promise, I know I'll return to GALT.
I was introduced to GALT 22 years ago when I adopted my first greyhound. Since then, I have become a repeat adopter, foster, volunteer, and board member. I am proud to be associated with an organization that truly lives up to its motto, “No grey turned away”. It’s not always an easy goal, but GALT finds a way to network and/or raise funds when needed to help the hounds before finding not just a home, but the right home for every dog. I look forward to what this GREYT group of volunteers achieves next!

I found GALT when I adopted my first greyhound in 2004 and have volunteered with them ever since. The level of care each dog receives from intake to kennel to foster home to adoption is astounding. Whether you're a first time adopter or an experienced dog person, GALT provides an extensive support system before, during, and after the adoption. Adopt a dog and join the family!
GALTX has helped hounds even here in the Rio Grande Vally. They rescued two from Laguna Vista, 1 from Alamo and 1 from Brownsville. All 4 were critical cases but GALTX stepped up and made sure they got the medical care they needed and found a foster home for all.

I am so very grateful to GALTX for bringing several greyhound rescues into my life. GALTX is a well run and caring organization made up of so many generous souls that it is difficult to name each one. Suffice it to say that this organization is purely motivated by what is best for the hounds. I know that every dollar that is donated to GALTX goes to benefit the rescues.
We have adopted two of our beloved greys from this fabulous organization. Our duo were rehome greyhounds, and were older and were considered to be “hospice”, which was just what we needed in our lives. We had them for two blessed years before they passed. Our experience was so perfect and the volunteers that helped with our adoption process and the magnificent foster mom made everything so smooth. We were paired perfectly with the perfect pair. Great work.

After agonizing about what to do with our beloved greyhound because we were being transferred out of the country,
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas stepped in and found the greyest home for her. The thoughtful volunteers kept us abreast of every part of the re home, and, now that we are permanently here in the US, will help us now find our next grey. They are efficient, kind, and extremely knowledgable . They are the perfect people to help all of us find our next perfect pet!
Absolutely support this great nonprofit. We’ve been members for years and have adopted several greys from GALT. They are supportive and fiscally responsible. We highly recommend them as a good use for your charitable giving.
I've been an active volunteer with GALT for nearly 15 years, having fostered over 100 precious hounds. The organization has a broad support base and new leadership. I'm excited about the future as we continue to bring in domestic and international greyhounds so we can share them with new people.

We've been owned by several GALT greyhounds for over 15 years. In that time we've also fostered nearly 100 hounds to help them find their forever homes. The volunteers work tirelessly from the time a hound comes to GALT until they're adopted. The community is a wealth of information and support.
I have volunteered with the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) in various capacities for the past 17 years and highly recommend this charitable organization. Our dedicated team of volunteers is committed to providing the highest level of medical and foster care for all of the greyhounds that we take in from the racing industry. In addition, we accept greyhounds and hound mixes from shelters, whether they are found as strays or returned by owners who can no longer care for them. Over the years, GALT has also taken a leading role in rescuing greyhounds and mixes from coyote hunters, hoarding situations and other neglect cases. I am proud to be associated with GALT!

My husband and I adopted our first GALT greyhound in January 2008. Since then Hondo and two of our other greys, Julie and Willie, have traveled to the Rainbow bridge -- leaving behind our two other GALT greys, Ali and Anna. I have volunteered for GALT for 16 years in several capacities -- fostering greys, exercising/bathing them and transporting dogs from our boarding facility to vet appointments. I have also been involved with fundraising and have built significant relationships with many donors who are dedicated to supporting GALT's greys. I have been quite impressed with the work of our volunteers. We all do what we do because we care about the dogs and want to introduce others to the joys of these wonderful hounds. I like the fact that GALT welcomes sighthound mixes, rather than exclusively taking in pure greyhounds. This allows us to help so many other dogs who need and deserve loving forever homes. GALT has been recognized as a Great NonProfit for many years, and I recommend that we continue to receive this honor!
GALT has gone through a lot of changes in the past year and has come out in a positive, welcoming place! We continue to welcome local sighthounds in need and retired racers from Australia into our wonderful foster homes. There are lots of opportunities to volunteer in a variety of areas, and the volunteers involved are great!
We have been supporters for many years and have adopted 4 greyhounds from this organization. Every time they have been professional and made the process very easy. We volunteer and donate too. We really can't say enough good things about GALT. We especially like the transparency as to where the funds go and the all-volunteer approach.

We have been associated with GALT for 15 years and have adopted 4 hounds from them. The most impressive thing to us about this organization is the volunteers' dedication to the hounds. Many of them have been with GALT since its inception in 2001 and despite jobs, familys and busy personal lives, they are always there for the dogs - day in and day out. If you are looking to adopt a greyhound or greyhound mix, GALT is the place to go!!
With GALT you not only get the finest greyhounds but you get an entire community of greyhound support and camaraderie! You are never alone when you have a Greyhound in your home. Over the last 20 years, we have adopted mini, Foster sum (bail foster of the rest), and have made friends worldwide in the Greyhound community. It all started here, with.GALT and we are greytful that it did.
Trixie retired from racing at 7 years old and quietly came into my heart where she stayed for a short 5 years. She taught me how to walk with confidence with her by my side leading me onward. When we added a dachshund puppy, she calmly taught the pup that barking wasn’t necessary for which we are eternally grateful. She was my heart dog and I will forever miss her as I hope to see her galloping into my arms at the rainbow bridge!
I can’t explain the love this organization gives. I have adopted 4 beautiful greyhounds from GALT. NO Hound left behind is their motto, they take this very seriously. The volunteers work tirelessly to make sure these hounds & honorary hounds are cared for, fed, given a warm home and loved, isn’t that what everyone needs?
GALT turns wallflowers into blooms of fun, love, and joy.
I don’t know what these hounds would have without GALT.

There aren’t enough words to describe how GALT unselfishly donates their time to help the Greyhounds. I have adopted 5 greyhounds from the wonderful organization. The volunteers, fosters and members are the most giving group I have had the pleasure knowing and supporting. Thank you GALT! They are dedicate to no Grey is turned away.
This is a group of selfless servant leaders all dedicated to finding forever homes for greyhounds. Their commitment to the organization’s mission to find loving forever homes for these amazing animals shines through in every aspect of their operation.
We just recently lost our old man, Leopold Shakespeare, who we adopted through GALT. I have nothing but great things to say about him and GALT - GALT made sure we had their support throughout his life and, most importantly, made sure that we and Leo would be a great fit in one another’s lives before placing him. We adopted our second greyhound, Juniper Lightning Bug, through GALT’s Central Texas branch after foster failure and we just couldn’t be happier with GALT and all they do for the hounds in our region and beyond!
We have been adopting Greyhounds since 1992 and adopted our first GALT greyhound Sage in August 2018 and since then have adopted four more ! GALT has been nothing short of amazing and forthcoming with all information on a hound when adopting. Even after adoption they are available for any help or questions and there is an amazing online group of fellow GALT fur parents to meet with and share hound stories.
I am truly amazed at how a group of volunteers can run such a well organized adoption group! Top notch, from the kennel help, to the adoption team, to the fundraising events, and all in between. GALT is a wonderful group to work with!
I’ve been involved with this wonderful organization for almost 20 years. I’ve worked with other rescue groups but none measure up to GALT. They are a very well organized group with members that go above and beyond for the care and wellbeing of greyhounds. They are generous with their time and love for this breed. You can’t find a better team.

I adopted and fostered dogs from GALTx for over 20 years (we had up to 6 at one time with our own girls and fosters). I recently started volunteering to help place dogs in loving homes by doing references and vet checks to ensure current or former dogs were up to date with their vaccinations and medicines. There is constant communication at any time regarding placing a grey with an appropriate application. I didn't fully understand the work that goes on "behind the scenes" in making the best match possible for both dog and household. It truly takes a village and dedication to care for our animals and to keep them safe and healthy.
GALT is an exceptional organization that has had such a positive (or PAWsitive) impact on our lives. We have rescued three greyhounds from them. The GALT community is an invaluable resource for education and support when caring for this sweet and specific breed that so desperately needs our help. We feel very lucky to have them in our community and to have been involved with them since 2018 when we rescued our first greyhound. We continue to lean on them in times of need and the call is always answered. Thanks for all the work you do for this gentle breed of dogs.
We have been adopting greyhounds from GALT since 2004. We fell in love with our first pup Alex and the breed. GALT is an exceptional group of professionals who put the love of the breed above all else. We now have Kathy & Rooney (fka Aaron) who are our 6th & 7th greyhounds from GALT. And......we are talking about adding to the family!
We cannot say enough positive things about GALT & the people who work tirelessly to make the group what it is and to proudly be able to stand behind their "no grey turned away" statement.
4000 dogs have been helped by GALT. 4000!!!
First I adopted dogs through GALT and then became a foster parent for the organization. We have fostered 38 dogs so far and 36 of them got adopted — two stayed here because this was their forever home. :-) We are slotted to have #39 come in next week. So is this a good group? The proof is in the hours I give to them. Love GALT.
Year after year, this organization improves its already exceptional service to dog lovers, the community, and most especially the hounds. That's why I put my chip down on GALT: My dogs are GALT hounds. My charity of choice is GALT. My volunteer time goes to GALT. From its administration to its service to its humanitarian spirit and care of the dogs, the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is simply unparalleled.

This nonprofit group remains firmly focused on its mission through sharp oversight, professional management, and continuous program improvements. Thanks to smart management and its fundraising strengths, GALT can take in dogs needing even the most expensive medical and surgical treatment or extensive foster home rehab. Potential adopters are thoroughly yet realistically screened (an issue with some adoption groups), and adopters receive post-adoption support with the dog's best interests at heart. My experience with GALT comes as a satisfied three-time adopter and volunteer.
We were first introduced to GALT in 2011 when we started our small pet-related business and volunteered to help at their annual GALT Birthday Party. We were VERY impressed with their level of professionalism as a volunteer organization, and we also fell in love with Greyhounds at that event. Shortly after, we began our GALT journey as fosters and 8 months later adopted our first foster Greyhound, Sobe Jean. We continued to volunteer as fosters and in other capacities as membership coordinators throughout the years. I can't say enough great things about this group. We have been involved in several animal rescue groups, and GALT is by far the most organized and dedicated group of people you will meet. Their "No Grey Turned Away" motto is proof of the dedication to the welfare and care for these beautiful and wonderful hounds.

I love this non-profit group and all the people involved! We started volunteering for GALT in 2011 and started fostering Greyhounds in 2012, and adopted our first Greyhound from them that same year. Volunteering for this group was such a richly rewarding experience, and though we have volunteered for many other dog rescue groups we feel there is none more organized than Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. They have earned all the honor and respect due, thanks to all the volunteers and financial support. GALT will forever have our support and love.
Love this group and they stand by their slogan "no grey turned away." I have been active with various adoption groups over the years and this one is the best. It is all about the hounds, as it should be! I don't even live in Texas and adopted through them many years ago. I continue to donate and remain active with them--they are like family to me. They also have greyt experienced fosters that help adjust the dogs to retired life and then match them based on their personalities and needs. GALT does amazing work!
I can’t say enough about GALT and the network of volunteers. They are a greyt support through out the life of your hound and beyond. My late boy Pedro and little greyluki Twiggy were GALT angels. My current GALT girls are getting a little white in the face these days. Through thick and thin GALT and the hounds have been such a force in my life. Foster if you can, adopt when you must and get ready for lots of unconditional love!
It's been a hard couple of years for fans of Greyhounds, with COVID changing how groups meet and raise awareness & funds, and also with the closing of so many tracks making it hard to find and adopt Greyhounds. It is for these reasons that I am greytful to Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. Many Greyhound adoption groups around the country have closed because they no longer have dogs to adopt out. GALT is made up of so many wonderful volunteers who tirelessly give their time and energy to help bring in dogs from around the state and around the world to be cared for and adopted into loving homes. I found out over 20 years ago that the Greyhound was the breed for me, and I worried that after my sweet Frankie Bloo crossed the Bridge, that I may never have a chance at owning another Greyhound. But GALT had a perfect dog for me. GALT is committed to helping the dogs who need help medically, and find homes for them all. I hope they get to continue their good work for many years to come.

As a longtime volunteer and donor of Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, and especially in the recent year of COVID, this group has gone above and beyond to help all the displaced greyhounds that came from Florida track closures in addition to all the hounds they normally get. The volunteers work tirelessly to make sure they are warm, well fed and cared for, and healthy until permanent homes are found. It is daily work in crazy Texas weather conditions, but they make it happen for the benefit of the hounds. From transports to baths, they are the best!
I've volunteered with many greyhound adoption groups across the country, and while they were all good, Greyhound Adoption League of Texas stands head and shoulders above all of them. It's professionally run by caring people whose primary focus is on doing the best they can for the dogs. GALT's reputation is excellent, the people are wonderful, and the dogs are amazing. I highly recommend GALT to adopters, volunteers, and donors.

GALT is not just the largest greyhound adoption group, it is the most professionally run adoption group I've ever encountered. My husband and I have volunteered with many greyhound groups across the country over the past twenty-six years, five of them with GALT. We have fostered for them repeatedly because GALT does a wonderful job of supporting their foster families, and no expense is spared in caring for each greyhound. Despite having close to 100 hounds in the program, each one is treated as an individual. GALT's adoption process is rigorous but well worth it. They make every effort to carefully screen potential adopters and to place each dog in a home that fits its specific needs and personality. GALT appreciates its many dedicated and caring volunteers and lets them know every chance they get. GALT's wonderful leadership sets the tone for the rest of us.
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) is a volunteer-led canine rescue organization dedicated to finding great homes for greyhounds, whether those hounds retired from racing or were found as strays or in shelters. As a nonprofit executive I am normally skeptical of all-volunteer nonprofits, because they frequently lack the organizational capacity to do great work, but GALT is the exception to that rule. This is one of the finest nonprofits I've ever worked with, and it is my pleasure to have worked with GALT as a rescuer, transporter, adopter and donor. I can't praise GALT highly enough.
GALT is wonderful. I’ve adopted two greyhounds from GALT and I’m so impressed with how they take such excellent care of the greyhounds and get them ready and placed in the best homes. They really take such care to match the personalities of each greyhound that comes into their rescue with the best fit for a home life for the greyhound. I love this organization and will continue to support them.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas has set the bar high for adoption groups. They give each and every greyhound the care and attention they need while looking for their forever home. GALT supports their greyhounds and adopters even after the adoption. GALT is family❤️

The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas continues to hold true to its mission. No Grey turned away! The incredibly dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to rehome these amazing dogs❤️
I first became aware of the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) in 2019 when I was living in Norfolk, Virginia. I had adopted a retired racing greyhound in 2013 and was active with local greyhound groups in the area. I discovered the Twitter feeds from GALT and quickly became a follower.
After spending forty years in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, during which time I completed careers in the United States Army (1973-1997) and post-secondary education (1997 – 2020), I was ready for a change. My wife had passed away, and my children were grown, gone, and no longer residing in Hampton Roads. I moved to Carrollton, Texas, in order to be close to my son and his family. Keenly aware of GALT’s mission to support retired racing greyhounds, I became not only a member of the organization, but an active volunteer as well.
GALT’s neutral stance concerning the racing industry is perfectly aligned with my beliefs; I am neither a proponent for nor an opponent to the racing business. My concern is the treatment of the animals whether on the farm or at the track. I completed my orientation as a TLC volunteer in July of 2021. Simply put, we go to the kennels to spend time with the hounds awaiting placement into foster homes. We take them on walks, play with them, and encourage them to just be dogs. While these activities may seem somewhat simple, they are critical to the athletes’ adjustment from their training regimens as racers to life as pets and family members in their forever homes.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is recognized nationally for its success as an organization dependent upon volunteers, and for very good reasons. As I started my affiliation with the group, I was impressed with the thoroughness of training provided for volunteers and openness to ideas accorded to all. I have over forty years of experience in adult education and curriculum design. I earned the designation of Master Training Specialist from the United States Navy, so my opinion of the training program taking place within this organization comes from a very informed and professional perspective.
As a volunteer and new member of the organization, I was welcomed with open arms by leadership and membership alike. When asked if I was interested in returning to the kennels after I completed the TLC training, I laughed and replied. “Are you kidding me? I’m like a kid in a candy store here,” meaning at the kennels. From lawyers and teachers to professionals, retirees, and a plethora of backgrounds, the body of volunteers is diverse. Of course, a variety of opinions concerning the racing industry exists amongst those within the organization. However, we come together as a group and are connected through our love for the animals entrusted to our care.
The experiences I've had since becoming part of this group have been nothing less than exceptional--so much so that I have organized a collective book writing effort with other volunteers from the organization. "Tales from the Houn House and Beyond: a Collective Book Effort in Support of the Hounds" is currently scheduled for publication by Tatted Hounds Publishing on August 15, 2022. All proceeds from sales will go directly to the organization.
I am a foster/volunteer for this organization and think it is wonderful for all it does for greyhounds.

We have been involved with GALT for well over a decade. We have fostered numerous dogs and even adopted 3. We believe wholeheartedly in their mission and values. They truly follow their "no grey turned away" statement.
I have been involved with the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) as an adopter, foster, volunteer and donor since January 2008. This organization has an amazing core group of volunteers, fosters and donors who always step up to meet every challenge that arises.
When Florida began phasing out greyhound racing in 2018, GALT leased a facility to house the flood of Florida greys that arrived in 2019, 2020 and 2021. At times more than 50 dogs were in boarding while waiting for foster homes to become available. GALT recruited an amazing army of "TLC" volunteers to help exercise and bathe the hounds in boarding. When other challenges arose at the aging boarding facility -- freezing pipes, no water and/or heat, etc. -- many GALT volunteers and donors helped by delivering water, donating blankets and dog coats, maintaining special generators, and donating funds to help pay for these unexpected capital expenses.
A key difference between GALT and other greyhound adoption groups is the fact that we accept sighthound mixes, typically strays or owner returns, rather than just full-blooded greys. Hound mixes are usually harder to place in forever homes, and thus they require longer stays in boarding and foster homes. In addition to the higher boarding expense, many of the strays and owner returns arrive with serious medical issues that require significant outlays of funds. However, GALT is dedicated to assisting ALL hounds, not just retired racers -- and our wonderful team of volunteers, fosters and donors help us live up to our motto of "No Grey Turned Away!"
They are the most thoughtful and caring folks that I have ever been exposed to especially with the way they are concerned about the greyhound dogs that they are caring for and arranging to find homes for. They also are diligent about making all aware of the need for homes for these four legged friends. I would recommend them to anyone that is interested in being able to adopt a healthy, lively, caring animal that is the original dog developed in early Egypt a very long time ago. These folks care and are kind to all of the animals that come to them for help.
Greyhound Adoption League of TX does great things!!! The well-being and rescue of greyhounds is always the focus. It’s a wonderful organization filled with volunteers that care deeply about greyhounds.
My fiancé and I have had a wonderful experience fostering with this organization. The love everyone involved in the rescue has for these dogs is undeniable. It’s so wonderful for these dogs to experience love and kindness the second they arrive at GALT. This organization has changed the lives of countless dogs and humans. They are thorough with their dog matching and are dedicated to finding the perfect home for each dog. Our volunteer experience has been truly wonderful - they are great at communicating with all volunteers, working with our difficult schedules, and making sure each dog is placed in the correct foster home. Fostering has been a wonderful highlight of our lives and we can’t wait to “foster fail” and adopt a dog (or two) from GALT when the time is right!
We do volunteer work with GALT. We love the greyhounds! The people involved are even better. I have never met a more dedicated group that will show up rain, sleet, or snow to care for the hounds. With over 50 in a kennel paid for with donations and over 30 in foster homes as of today, that is a huge human commitment to caring for the pups. The medical needs are massive and fund raising is currently difficult. Any contributions of time or money is truly appreciated.
Love GALT! I started as an adopter then I started volunteering. GALT always puts the hounds first. The dogs are so well taken care of.
GALT is a great group of people doing their best for the hounds. I'm amazed at how they have kept it all together and made it work during this pandemic.

I first fell in love with Greyhounds in 1990. Since that time I have worked with a variety of rescue groups. I have fostered, adopted, volunteered and donated to groups working diligently to care for Greyhounds. When we moved back to the DFW area I researched all local rescue groups and whole heartedly decided to support GALT. They stand out in exemplary fashion in their care of all Greyhounds no matter their origins. I currently volunteer occasionally at the kennel and also serve as a foster home. I've never been associated with a group that provides the same level of meticulous medical and emotional care that GALT volunteers provide for every single hound in their care. I feel blessed to have been accepted into their ranks as a volunteer.
GALT has a proven track record of rescuing and adopting out greyhounds and sighthounds. Their leadership knows the value of the people who volunteer and adopt from them. They also know how to run a business so that all facets are working well to achieve the goal of No Grey Turned Away. They do it right and well - from all angles. They ROCK!

I love GALT and all the people who make this organization so wonderful. They care about all the dogs in their program - whether they be in boarding, in a foster home, or already adopted. I know that I can always count on someone to give me sound advice or lend a helping hand!

GALT continues to be the support system I need, even years after adopting through them. I love volunteering and attending their events and know they are always willing to share their vast knowledge!
GALT is a fantastic volunteer nonprofit. Their volunteers are dedicated, offering services to place expertly place greyhounds from all over the country, even a few from beyond the borders. Their motto is "leave no greys behind", and they operate upholding this. The dogs that come in are thoroughly assessed, and fostered, to ensure their placement is successful. The foster families go above, and beyond providing every detail you may need for a successful transition of the dogs to their forever homes.
I recommend GALT as my chosen greyhound adoption source. There are other greyhound adoption groups, but these guys are stellar in their work, highly efficient, and match dogs with their perfect furever home.
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas continues to create success stories with their combination of passion and excellent operations. This group is open and welcoming as they support the families of the adopted hounds for the lifetime of the hound.
In 2018 we had the good fortune to add Vivie to our pack. Vivie joined GALT in DFW, fostered in Santa Fe and came back to DFW for our family to gather her up and bring her to Spring, Texas. A very happy ending for a hound dumped in Mansfield, Texas and found by the side of a busy road. The coordinated group of volunteers and fosters were instrumental in changing the fate of many many dogs and families and also one little Vivie.
GALT is an amazing organization. Everyone involved puts so much effort in making sure no greyhound is turned away. I have adopted 3 greyhounds from GALT since 2015. I am happy to be a part and support such a great organization who puts so much hard work and love into everything they do.
We have been involved with GALT since 2001 with the adoption of our first Greyhound, Bob then through the additions of Moose, Cookie and our current one, Marge. There are not enough words to describe the fantastic support, dedication, kindness and love this group provides to all its members and of course the hounds. They make them selves available day and night and live by their mission of "No Grey Turned Away". This is a fantastic group of people doing fantastic work!
My husband d and I have volunteered for GALT in several capacities and adopted a total of 5 beautiful hounds! This organization truly cares about the welfare of the dogs - not just while they are in our care, but FOREVER. I am proud to be a part of this organization's efforts to ensure no grey is turned away.
We've had Zamboni for a couple of years now and GALT made the adoption process easy to understand, efficient, and personalized. He loves walks and laying around and he's able to meet our needs as well of having a semi-active hound. He's in great condition and loves his life! We had a great experience using GALT!
GALT is very dedicated to providing medical care for all hounds & finding loving, responsible homes for them.

I started volunteering for GALT in 2016. This well-organized adoption group provides excellent medical care for the hounds. They work hard to make sure that the dog will fit in well at its forever adopted home; dogs that will live with cats go to kitty boot camp to live with cats before adoption and dogs that will be only dogs try living alone before they are adopted.
As a volunteer, who didn't have greyhound experience prior to volunteering, the GALT community was incredibly helpful when I had questions.
GALTx is an amazingly complete and thorough non-profit organization that benefits any greyhound, greyhound mix, racer or stray! Because of them, Trixie chose me for her mom many years ago. GALTx arranges for their dogs to be fostered or boarded as necessary. Because greyhounds are the universal blood donors, they are used as such. When the blood donor facilities were shut down, GALTx stepped up to take on these sweet pups. My Trixie had raced over 160 races before retiring from racing and finding me. She was given the opportunity to live in a home with other greyts so that she would be comfortable living in a forever home. GALTx verified our living arrangements and introduced her to my small poodle - making such Trixie didn't this the poodle was a rabbit! After answering lots of questions and confirming my dedication to her, Trixie came to live with us for almost 10 years. When Trix left to run to the rainbow bridge, GALTx was right there with us for comfort and support. They continue to receive small donations from me even though Trix has been gone for years because they use the money wisely and only for the greyts. I cannot imagine a better organization that supports such amazing animals!

GALT is a wonderful organization that puts the greyts first and foremost in anything they do. The dogs' welfare is of upmost importance and the adoption coordinators are very well trained to ascertain whether a greyhound is the best pet for your family. My family went to several meet and greets to find our sweet Trixie. During that time, we were treated professionally, with courtesy and care. Finding the right combination of pet and family is the most important thing for these folks. They tirelessly devote themselves to raising money and taking care of these sweet dogs and generally educating the public on how wonderful greyhounds truly are.
GALT continues their great work! When a Texas greyhound blood bank closed last year, they stepped up to take the majority of the dogs and work to find them homes. They are already working to rehome dogs being displaced due to law changes in Florida and will continue to do so. And of course, no grey is ever turned away. The medical care is head and shoulders above many other adoption groups and the volunteers are energized and excited to help the hounds. We are GALT members for life!

I am so very happy to continue to support GALT. The work that they do on behalf of the hounds and families is inspiring. In 2017, they showed their amazing dedication to the hounds by once again stepping up to help in a large emergency situation, the sudden closure of a pet blood bank. Without hesitation, GALT took scores of hounds in to help them find homes. I highly recommend this organization to adopters, donors and volunteers.
This is a rescue group that takes in all greyhounds, retired racers, coyote hunters, strays, breeding females, injured greyhounds, greyhounds that have lost their homes, mixed breed greyhounds, and sadly, abuse cases. GALT provides the best medical care and then volunteers foster the dogs, teaching them the joys of life in a home until the day they find their forever homes. Before they are adopted GALT absorbs the cost of neutering as well as any medical care a greyhound may need including surgeries. There are no employees, everyone involved is a volunteer and the rescue is well organized, efficient, and exceptionally devoted to the care of these beautiful creatures.

I love GALT ! The team does so much for greyhounds from the racing industry and strays alike. They give 5 star treatments to all the dogs in their care, the dogs are in foster homes or the kennels, where the TLC team steps in to give them their daily walks and cuddles. I am amazed at the sheer volume of greyhounds GALT has helped over the years.
GALT ROCKS !!!

I've been following GALT for 6 years on FB and what a great rescue they are ! 5 years ago I took the next step and went to visit them, all the way from Belgium and met them in person. I was taken in, into their family and met even more of the volunteers. They all became my extended family and I love them dearly! I run a small rescue in Belgium and would like to be as good as them when we grow up ! GALT will move heaven and earth to help greyhounds in need, No Grey Turned Away are not just words to them it is their goal to help them all.
I have the deepest respect for all the volunteers and the work they do, day in and day out!
We adopted Zamboni through GALT. My wife had adopted Jettie through them years ago and after her passing, we were ready for a new Grey. GALT was thorough and timely in their home inspection and we hit it off with the veterinarian who was the inspector right away. Zamboni's foster graciously welcomed us into her home and we also bonded with her as he got along with our dogs, who we brought along. The paperwork was processed timely and Zamboni is a beautiful dog who was well-cared for during his fostering and has become part of our family very fast. We would recommend GALT with our highest regards.
GALT is a group of passionate like minded volunteers who give generously of their time , resources and knowledge to benefit greyhounds in need. This non profit has worked tirelessly with great integrity and consistency over many years. Their mission of no hound left behind continues to be successfully met due to the high caliber of the founders, foster families and volunteers. I highly recommend GALT as a fantastic adoption league.
I’ve always loved animals and knew early on they would be an important part of my life. Greyhounds were not familiar to me - and my childhood home was always a cat home (
I’m an adopter and now volunteer with the Greyhound Adoption League of Tx, for the newly formed New Mexico Chapter. We adopted 3 hounds from them last year and we had a really great experience with them. When they decided to expand into NM, I really wanted to see them succeed. The volunteers are extremely committed and the all resources GALT gets goes into helping the hounds who need medical care. They take in stray sighthounds, as well as retired racers, really living up to the phrase “No Grey turned away.”
The pics I posted are two hounds we just got from another rescue who was having a hard time placing them and didn’t have foster homes for them. GALT now has them and they are well on their way to finding forever homes.
GALT is one of the most amazing rescue groups I have had the pleasure to work with. Their love and devotion to saving the greyhounds is so wonderful. I have been fostering and volunteering as an adoption coordinator for several years now, and have adopted several hounds from GALT. I can not say enough good things about this organization and the love and passion that goes into caring for the hounds.

I have the privilege of having two GALT Greyhounds and they are the my loves. I am also an adoption coordinator and foster for GALT. Such a wonderful organization that does such great things for the greyhounds, from strays, to hounds off the track, to puppies that have been dumped, to taking greyhounds (and greyhound mixes) from hoarding situations. All the volunteers work together to get the hounds ready for their forever homes.
My husband and I recently adopted from the New Mexico chapter of GALTX. They have been wonderful! The volunteers were incredibly kind and helpful during the adoption process. They made sure we were informed on greyhounds and their unique needs and differences from other breeds. When we couldn't get to Texas to pick up our new boy, a volunteer drove there himself to bring the pup back. They've been great after the adoption, too. I've been in contact with several of them over some minor issues that have come up. They've sent links, advice, and offers of help. I had no idea that when we adopted that we'd be welcomed into such a loving, supportive community. I can't recommend them enough.
After one of our greyhounds passed away, we completed an adoption application with GALT. We had been following their work on line for years and felt they were responsible and compassionate. No greyhound needs a home if GALT is anywhere nearby - they take them all. We were thoroughly checked out and were approved for adoption. They suggested we adopt a 9-month old puppy who had had a badly broken leg. GALT had it surgically repaired (she has a plate and 7 screws.) We drove from Maryland to Dallas to pick up our little girl (nearly 2,500 miles round trip.) They selected the perfect dog for us. We could not be happier. We wouldn't hesitate to adopt from them again or to recommend them to others.
Although GALT's focus is assisting greyhounds, particularly those with a racing background; this organization embodies "leave no SIGHTHOUND behind." I stand in awe of the dedication and teamwork exhibited by the GALT volunteers. Whether the task is picking up a lurcher in the local animal shelter; attending a Meet & Greet; maintaining the website or planning a mega fundraising gala; the members of GALT rise to the challenge with aplomb.
GALT is what every rescue should aspire to be.
I have been involved in the pet industry and have partnered with rescue organizations for over 16 years. The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is professionally operated with a fantastic network of dedicated volunteers that have been an ongoing pleasure to partner with. They have an impressive schedule of events and meet and greets to successfully place the many hounds they have taken in on their journey to their waiting families. I have had the good fortune to have had 4 GALT hounds placed with me. The support received from the group is exemplary from fostering to adopting to becoming part of the GALT family through a robust social media network. Great organization!
GALT is wonderful! We have adopted 5 greys in 10 years. They truly stand by their motto, no greys turned away. This is such a loving and passionate group of people who share their love of greyhounds ! I am proud to be apart of GALT!
great they take in retired racers. They show pictures of dogs off leash. Stole their "no grey turned away' from another group & they don't always take dogs. Instead of helping dogs in the US, they are now importing greyhounds. Currently the tracks in Florida repair fractured legs, GALT takes them prior to repair to beg for more money. Check the Group before you donate time & money. Know of friends who have attempted to adopt, but are turned away. Watch the Vet clinic they support, care its substandard.
we have been volunteers and GALT adopters for year, well over a decade. We are continuously grateful for GALT's dedication to caring for all the greyhounds in its custody. No expense is spared in medical care. At one point two different fosters were on two different special foods. Now one if taking extra meds. A relatively recent addition is Foster checkpoints where all fosters are bathed, have nail trims, teeth and ears and weight checked. All dogs are closely monitored and cared for and volunteers are appreciated.

How I adore an organization where every bit of the funds goes to the purpose for which it is intended, to help dogs and not to some highly paid executive. we have volunteered with GALT for years and years now. It is a rewarding venture made all the more so as we share our experience with so many other caring volunteers. This is the most worthy of support animal adoption group. There are not enough superlatives.
GALT is the gold standard among greyhound adoption groups, they go above and beyond for the hounds, dedicated and passionate, we've adopted 3 hounds so far, more in the future!, I can only say positive things about this organization
I am so proud to be part of such a wonderful organization. I have fostered puppies (and other dogs) for GALT. First of all, taking in litters of puppies is an effort in itself, but moreover, these poor darlings would be dead or homeless if GALT didn't step in. Below is a photo of a puppy that GALT saved from terrible conditions. Thank you GALT for all you do!

I encountered GALT from a friend's referral when we moved to the DFW area. I didn't look them up at first, but my friend kept nagging me and saying...this is the best greyhound rescue in the country. After awhile, I connected with GALT, and began fostering and volunteering occasionally, but the entire organization is so friendly and well-run that I'm now fundraising for them too. The best part about GALT is that they are an all-volunteer organization, so every single dime goes to the care and placement of the rescued dogs.
I have been a volunteer with GALT for about 6 months now. I love that a dog is not available until they are completely healthy and ready for their forever home! What an amazing group that always has the best interest of the hounds as top priority.
I recently learned about this type of dog breed as well as this Nonprofit. It is wonderful news to know there is a special group of people seeking forever homes for these wonderful companions.
I became a first-time greyhound owner and volunteer at nearly the same time because I could immediately tell that GALT is a well-oiled machine. Their motto, "no grey turned away," is impressive and since my adopted boy was a stray found with paint-ball marks on his body, I'll be forever grateful they took him in and prepared him for his forever home.
I've never volunteered with an organization that doesn't have to pull teeth to get its volunteers to step up! Everybody is always willing and goes the extra mile--anything for the Greys!
This is an awesome group that helps place retired racing greyhounds in their forever homes. I have adopted one from them 7 years ago and another one 3 years ago. Their on going commitment to the health and safety of these dogs is amazing. They stay on top of the needs of the various dogs and the families that adopt them.

I was so impressed with GALT, I wrote a book called "A Tale of Two Tails" about adopting two greyhounds through them. They are the most dedicated group of people whose main concern is making the sure the greys are placed in good loving homes. The volunteers are all dedicated to the dogs. They go way above and beyond what a rescue group normally does to help place dogs. Should something happen that the "forever home" can no longer take care of the greys, then they take them back to help find another home for them. I would highly recommend anyone to them. They know the dogs and help find just the right one for you to meet your needs.

Found this group when we adopted our dog. Although he is not a Greyhound, they thought he was and didn't turn him away when it turned out he wasn't! Now we foster greyhounds for them and couldn't have asked for a greater organization to adopt from or be a part of.
I joined Greyhound Adoption League of Texas when I moved to Texas and adopted a greyhound from GALT in 2014. I was so impressed with the people and the careful adoption process that I started volunteering as a foster parent. I learned the meaning of GALT's motto, "no grey turned away," when I fostered a lovely greyhound mix named Hera. She stole my heart while in my care and ended up in a great home. Not every greyhound group would take a mix, or a stray, untattooed hound. GALT does! As well as sick and injured hounds.
Almost all animal adoption/rescue groups mean well, but GALT is exceptionally well-managed and accountable. When you donate to GALT or volunteer, you know that your money and hard work really is for the dogs, not for the enrichment of the organization. I would highly recommend Greyhound Adoption League of Texas if you are looking for a worthy, highly effective charity.
I had an aunt who adopted two greyhounds. They were excellent pets!!! I am so glad they were made adoptable after their racing days are over. Knew a friend who had one, she would often bring her dog into our store, awesome dog. The owner became very involved in the program after adopting them. These dogs are so lovable and well- behaved. They are so beautiful when they run. Everyone should learn about these precious souls.
There are not enough words to describe the amazing work that GALT does on a daily basis. The young, the old, the injured and the strays, NOT ONE of them is ever TURNED AWAY!! And they stand behind their statement 110%! I am on my 4th Greyhound, all of them have been from GALT. I am part time volunteer and help out when I can, but the devotion that the members put in every single day is like nothing I've seen before. I have made lifelong friends thru GALT and they will always be apart of my life.

I have been a GALT volunteer for almost 8 years. I know for a fact that their motto of "NO GREY TURNED AWAY" is 110% true! They go above and beyond any organization that I know of to help the hounds in need. I have devoted countless hours volunteering, working events, fostering, transporting the Grey babies to and fro and anything else that was asked of me. From the board members to the countless volunteers, I can truly say that they are an amazing group to work with and I am so very fortunate to be able to say that they are also my friends! I no longer live in the Dallas area but still like to help out when I can. I want to wish GALT a Happy 12th Birthday and many many more successful years to come!
I have been volunteering for GALT for years now and you will not find a more dedicated and passionate group of people. All three of my dogs are from GALT!

Another year, another dog adopted from GALT!
They continue to go to great lengths to take in greyhounds no one else will.. broken legs, dogs abandoned at shelters, strays, Saluki mixes, and get them into great homes. Can't say enough about them!
My husband and I adopted our first greyhound from GALT in 2007 and our second in 2013. As supporters, I have observed the very utmost in professionalism and dedication of their volunteers and founders. The care given to every single greyhound who is lucky enough to get to GALT is 100% heartfelt. They never give up on a dog , no matter the condition, they will do everything possible to give him/her a quality of life that every animal deserves.
This organization has given me opportunities to meet and make friends as well.
i can't say enough good things about GALT!
I originally adopted my first greyhound 5 years ago. The process taken for each individual greyhound is handled with the utmost care, love and professionalism. The GALT volunteers are true family; not just greyhound related but also in life. I also have worked as a volunteer when the rescues first come into GALT care and have seen the process from initial care to finding these gentle spirits their forever homes. I am thankful beyond measure for what they do. Life is precious. You will learn so much more about life and love when you adopt a greyhound.
GALT lives by its motto of no grey turned away. They are there every step of the way for both the greyhounds and for the humans. Once you're a part of them, it's for life - they are family. I've adopted 2 hounds from them and when it is time to adopt another, it is through GALT that it will happen through.

I had fallen in love with a dog who came into GALT's possession as a survivor from a massive animal cruelty case. They spared no expense with him, and made sure he was nursed back to proper health. The more I found out about Charlie, the more I wanted him - even though we were 1000 miles away. Knowing how protective rescues are of their furkids and how hard it is for them to allow the adoptees to move far away, let alone 2 states over, I was extremely happy with how UNintimidating the interviews and home check processes were. I felt as though I was part of the GALT family even before Charlie was officially ours. I think GALT's entire adoption process is absolutely perfect as it properly serves both the adoptee and adopter alike.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is a well oiled machine of hard working volunteers that get the job done. I have volunteered with this group of dedicated people since 2005 and have seen what working together can get done!
I have been a dog lover and greyhound lover all my life. I decided it was time to get involved and become a foster so I asked around on Facebook and asked some of my other friends who volunteer and they told me to go with GALT. It was so easy to start helping out. The other fosters are so helpful and you can always find someone to talk to if you have a question. If you just want to adopt and not foster, that's very easy, too! These dogs are taken in and treated like family. When you adopt you will find out things about your new family member. He/she won't just be dropped at your house with a hope that you can figure It all out. It's definitely the best way to go if you're able to take in an extra grey or two, or three.
As I write this three of our four greyhounds sleep near me. These three are our precious GALT Girls. Our senior girl Lou healed my heart, our first tripaw Gertie stole my heart and our second tripaw Peggy raced into our hearts spreading lots of wiggly joy. These three girls were all introduced to us through the efforts of the GALT staff and volunteers. GALT works tirelessly to ensure the greys get the best health care and training to help them find the perfect forever homes. GALT is simply the BEST!
I have been volunteering for several years now and I consider the people and dogs of GALT to be my family. The leadership and dedication shown by the volunteers is absolutely amazing. There is no expense spared to make sure that these dogs receive the best possible care and no grey is turned away! I must admit I have been a foster failure 4 times (adopted my foster)...but have fostered over 40 dogs and fallen in love with all of them. I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested in a loving companion to consider adopting a greyhound.
I have been volunteering as a foster mom with GALT for the entire time it had been in existence - 13 years, and stopped counting at 80 fosters hound. I LOVE the dogs and my GALT family. There is no end to the support, care, patience and love this group gives to both the hounds and the volunteers. The absolute best nonprofit around....
I've been volunteering with the Greyhound Adoption League of TX for about a year now. Their mission statement of "No Grey Turned Away" defines their dedication. What a wonderful group of loving and dedicated volunteers who go the distance for the dogs they take in. I became an official "failed foster mom" just this month when I adopeted Vincent (aka NY Vinny). I

GALT is wonderful and has a team of very committed volunteers. We adopted both of our beloved Greyhounds from GALT, and they have been such a joy to have in our family. GALT takes "greyt" care of every Grey in their possession, from providing for their medical needs to giving love in their foster home. GALT also makes it easy to volunteer at events and stay connected with the Greyhound community.
I live in Tennessee and have followed and Donated over the last 5 years. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this group. They are first class and professional in every way. I only wish they were closer so that I could participate in person!!!! Thanks for all the Hard work you do for the Hounds.

I can not say enough wonderful things about GALT. We live in Tennessee and support GALT as well as our Local GPA group. They set a wonderful example for All nonprofit rescue groups. We will always continue to Donate to help them continue there wonderful works!!!
I have the great honor and pleasure to work with this group and they are top notch! Everything they do is in the best interest of the greyhounds and NO GREYHOUND IS LEFT BEHIND, whether it's shows up in a shelter, stray, an abusive situation or just retiring from their racing career. This group is all about the GREYHOUNDS!!!
My husband is a veterinarian and he has done some of the vet work for GALT since they started in 2001. We have both worked with many animal rescue organizations but Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is by far the best. They should write a book on how to run a rescue organization. To date they have found forever homes for over 2100 greyhounds. They work strictly on donations with an operating budget of over $250,000 per year. Their fundraising abilities are just phenomenal and this group works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate and adopt greyhounds, all the while, educating the general public about the joys of owning a greyhound. We have never worked with a better group of volunteers and what they do for greyhounds should not go unnoticed.
The most caring and compassionate Greyhound Rescue Organization! We have adopted 3 beautiful Greyhound souls from these wonderful people! Their devotion and caring exceeds all other Greyhound Rescue Groups we have dealt with! No Grey turned away.....and they truly mean this!
I initially adopted from GALT. It was the spirit and the professionalism of the volunteers that inspired me to be a part of this organization. I have now been a volunteer for about 2 years. This organization and it's all volunteer 'staff' are superior to any other organization that I have been involved in. The work that is done by this team to support the cause, 'NO GREY TURNED AWAY', is amazing. The dogs benefit, the adopters are supported even AFTER they adopt, there is a sense of community within the organization and the overall goal, to provide outstanding care to sight hounds is accomplished through the tireless efforts of the volunteers.
As a GALT volunteer and donor, I can definitely attest to this important organization. My greyhound broke his leg during his last race back in 2010. GALT is the only greyhound adoption group in Texas that will accept greyhounds with broken leg injuries from the racetrack. Without GALT, I shudder to think of what would have happened to him. GALT paid for his broken leg surgery and his loving foster mom opened up her home to him during his recuperation. With GALT, you can rest assured your donation will go towards helping the greyhounds.

GALT is a remarkable greyhound rescue organization run 100% by volunteers and funded 100% by donations and fundraisers. My involvement with GALT started when my husband and I began our search for a new family member. During our adoption process we discovered GALT to be extremely organized, efficient, and dedicated. Due to the the generous donations and hard work of GALT's volunteers, thousands of greyhounds have been placed into forever homes.
I've been a volunteer with the Greyhound Adoption League of TX for 3 years. Since joining this wonderful organization, I've looked forward to the day when I was able to foster or adopt my own grey. At the end of 2012, I took in a dog as a foster to see if adoption was for me, and was very satisfied with how much support I received from GALT coordinators. They were always happy to answer questions as this was the first dog I'd ever been responsible for. I quickly realized that my life wouldn't be the same without my special foster, and decided that I had to make it official. I adopted him about 3 weeks after picking him up from the kennel, and I can't imagine life without my boy. GALT is such a great group of people, and they care so much for each grey that comes into their care. The kennel volunteers that cared for my dog prior have all checked in and asked how he's doing. This organization doesn't forget about dogs after they've been placed in homes, and I think that quality makes GALT truly special.
I just became a foster home for two Galt greyhounds. This organization is top notch, and most important, are all about the lives of these beautiful Greyhounds. Please take the time a read everything you can on the Galt's home web site, it will inform you, answer questions, entertain you, make you laugh and yes get the tissue out because you just might cry in happiness and sadness. So far everyone that I have talked to has been so kind, friendly and helpful. I have two fosters at this time, and I just love them. I look forward to getting to know all the wonderful people that make Galt who they are. (a quote I have read before) The Greyhound has such a large chest, but it has to be, because their heart is so big! To ALL the people that make Galt work, thank you. Starr from East Texas
GALT has been in existence since 2001 and helped over 2100 greyhounds find their forever homes in its first 11 years of operation. Now in its 12th year, this all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization is more committed than ever to its mottof of "No Grey Turned Away." In addition to placing former racing greys, GALT accepts owner returns, strays and victims of neglect situations. The adoption fees charged are quite modest, compared to the money GALT spends to ensure that all dogs are healthy and free of parasites before designating them as available for adoption.
Other than adoption fees, GALT depends entirely on donations to cover it primary operating expenses -- i.e. medical costs and boarding fees. A dedicated group of foster parents helps defray the boarding costs significantly. In addition to to providing a home and food for the foster greys, they also introduce the dogs to a home environment and teach them "house manners" -- including crate and potty training. Many of these foster parents join another large army of volunteers who help take care of dogs in boarding, provide transportation and assist with fundraising.
My husband and I have adopted three GALT greys, and we have fostered many others. We also assist with "TLC" for the dogs in boarding and are active in several GALT fundraisers. We do as much as we can because we truly believe in the work that GALT is doing!
Previous Stories
My husband and I got involved with GALT after adopting our first greyhound in January 2008. Since then, we have become active volunteers, foster parents and donors for this incredible organization (and we also adopted a second greyhound along the way!) GALT received some greatly needed financial help (and recognition) from people all around the world this summer when word spread of its efforts to rescue several dogs in the horrible abuse case in Fort Worth (as documented in some of the other reviews on this site.) However, the need for funds is never-ending, since GALT relies heavily on donations in order to live up to its primary mission of never turning away a greyhound in need.
GALT has taken in several retired racers with broken legs in the past few months, along with several strays and other greys with severe illnesses. Medical expenses for each of these cases total several thousand dollars -- and they are still mounting. While some of the Fort Worth dogs have finally become healthy enough for adoption, there are still several who are continuing to receive special medical treatment.
GALT charges very reasonable adoption fees -- which only cover a portion of normal medical / processing costs. Another terrific thing about GALT? Before allowing a greyhound to be considered for adoption, this organization spends whatever is required for medical care to return the dog to full health. When you adopt a GALT dog, you know you are getting a completely HEALTHY animal with current vaccinations. As a result, the post-adoption "surprises" are held to an absolute minimum. Owner returns are relatively rare, but GALT's contract specifies that it will take back ANY adopted greyhound if problems do arise -- even if the problems have nothing to do with the dog (economic reasons, death, divorce, etc.) As a matter of fact, the contract REQUIRES the adopter to return the dog to GALT; that's how committed this organization is to each and every dog for the LONG term!
GALT's commitment to "No Grey Turned Away" is appreciated by individuals near and far who are watching our organization's every move and all that we do. However, most importantly, GALT is appreciate most by those who benefit most from GALT - the Greyhounds themselves who find their way into in loving and forever homes.
For example, our first Greyhound, Mackie, he was found wandering with his brother, Luke, on the streets of Fort Worth. We "met him" online nine years ago. We loved Mackie for oh so short of a time as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge much too early. Then we met Sammy in Rockwall, and he found his way into our hearts and home four and a half years ago. He also brought us to a new found friend/family member, his original owner. Our lives are complete.
I can't think of a better organization that lives and breathes each day to make sure every Greyhound that comes to GALT WILL be safe, loved and find its forever home .

We have been very lucky to have been "adopted" by two wonderful Greyhound boys in the past eight years through GALT. Our first, Mackie, passed away unexpectedly four years ago. Of course, we were devistated, but three months later we adopted our second furkid through GALT. Sammy and he is a total joy in our lives. GALT makes this happen for Greyhounds and their potential parents every day of every year of their existance. There is not ONE GREY ever turned away by this incredible group of volunteers who sole purpose is to find a greyt home for these greyt dogs. I know there are others like me who count their blessings every day that GALT is here and ready to help when we are called upon. Thank you GALT for past, present and future placements of Greyhounds into their forever homes.
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas has a goal of, No Grey Turned Away. I do my part to support that goal by fostering Greyhounds for GALT.
GALT makes it easy to foster - they provide all the vetting, the monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and the support of and knowledge from very experienced vets and volunteers. All I provide is food and love!
I believe that GALT helps me make a difference in the lives of Greyhounds, as well as a difference in my own life.
Thank you, GALT!
This is such an amazing organization. Everyone involved truly cares about the cause and will do whatever it takes to save and rescue these amazing dogs. The other volunteers are wonderful, it's just a greyt group!!
I am familiar with a lot of greyhound adoption groups throughout the United States, and GALT has earned my respect and appreciation for all they do for the breed. Many adoption groups have strict criteria for the dogs they accept, including the age of the dog, the general health and injuries suffered at the track, such as broken bones. GALT takes ALL greyhounds, no matter how dire the situation, or how much potential expense may be involved.
Their keen understanding of fundraising is also key to their continued success. Some event is always going on-- to raise money, as well as awareness. This requires a huge volunteer base, and kudos to GALT for keeping their volunteers happy and involved. Many volunteers also serve as fosters, which helps incoming dogs adjust to life outside a kennel, and with a loving family.
GALT is one of the rare nonprofit organizations that does everything well, and yet is not complacent about its success. Those are some of the reasons the people of GALT are my heroes.
GALT is an organization that really cares about the welfare of their dogs. When I was ready to adopt another greyhound I was walked step by step through the process from the intial application, attending meet & greets, an in-home visit to see the desired dog, and the final delivery of the dog (Jiffy) to my home.
I've been involved with (and adopted from) Greyhound adoption groups up and down the East Coast, and I follow a number of them through private chat groups , Facebook and community boards, all over the world. GALT is the cream of the crop of adoption groups - they are very active, organized and completely devoted to the dogs that they bring into their group. They are racing-neutral and are devoted to adoptions, rehoming, and always there to give a caring loving hand to the dogs that have been found and did not have the right owners and had medical issues and needed much care, Galt was there with a caring hand till all was OK and placing these dogs in loving forever homes as well as supporting and educating the families that adopt them from GALT. Their members are very devoted, giving time, dollars and caring advice. If I lived closer to GALT I would adopt my next greyhound from this very caring group. I have only been able to help GALT in Auctions but if I lived closer it would be a honor to be able to be a volunteer for GALT.
I have been working with the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas(GALT) for over two years now and am still impressed with how this group is ran. I have never been a part of such a wonderful rescue group that truly treats their rescues and volunteers like part of their family. GALT has a "No Grey Turned Away" policy that is just amazing. Many of these hounds come in with broken legs and other issues. The volunteers do whatever needed to help these hounds recover and find the best home. I have never seen such hard working folks!

This wonderful non-profit rescue group works with rescued and retired Greyhounds. Many of the dogs that are taken in by the group have broken legs or other injuries that require medical attention. The medical fund is typically emptied right after it is replenished due to the medical needs for incoming hounds. This group does an amazing job keeping in touch and following up with fosters and potential adopters. They stick to their policy about " No Grey Turned Away" and truly care for these dogs. I have worked with many groups but found myself drawn to this group because of their devotion and professionalism.
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is an amazing rescue organization. After our must loved greyhound went to the rainbow bridge, we started to look at the different organizations to adopt a new one. The things that GALT does for their dogs before they are adopted out is incredible, from a extensive medical check, dental cleaning, and even an eye specialist for my dog who has one eye that had some scaring. The things they do when you adopt a dog are amazing too, the information they provide to you about the breed for your vet is really helpful, since greyhounds can be quite different from many other dogs. I was so impressed with the kindness, generosity, and caring of the people that I meet through GALT that I became a volunteer and now a foster parent myself. Helping GALT and the lives they save and the human lives they benefit are amazing.
I have had the wonderful experience of getting to know this group, and their volunteers on Facebook in the past 3 years. Their fundraisers are delightful and professionally run, and I am always happy to participate in them. But the best news is their rescue and adoption record. They have taken in ex-racers, emergency groups of dogs from hoarding and abuse situations, and bounce-backs from owners who could no longer keep their pets. They have rescued puppies under a year, and sweet old gents and ladies---and have adopted them out around the country. Every detail is in order, and the dogs end up in permanent loving homes. Because of the high professionalism and dedication, the hounds and adopters all win big!
I wasn't sure what to expect but oh how lovely GALT is. These are very lucky hounds indeed! Friendly people and great hounds. It is so brilliant how everything is all put together and how hard all these people work. It was such a pleasure to see the hounds and meet Susie McQuad. Lovely lovely lady :o) xxxx
I've been involved with (and adopted from) Greyhound rescues in Florida and Canada, and I follow a number of them through blogs, Facebook and Websites, all over the world. GALT is the cream of the crop of rescue groups - so active, organized and completely devoted to the dogs they serve. They are racing-neutral (meaning they leave personal opinions for or against greyhound racing out of their messages) and solely devoted to rescuing, healing and placing these dogs in loving forever homes as well as supporting and educating the families that adopt them. Their members seem so devoted, always contributing their ideas, time, dollars and caring advice. GALT seems to garner attention worldwide for their efforts, which helps spread important messages such as spay and neuter, and rescue not purchase. Wish I lived closer as I would surely adopt my next hound through GALT.
I have watched and learned so much from being "friends" and "following" this group on Facebook for the last few years. Not only do they do everything they can to place the greyhound in fantastic, loving homes, but the fundraisers are often and very beneficial. They obviously love the breed and want only what's best for our four-legged friends. Even though I live far away from GALT, I know that I will consult with them first when I decide that it's time to adopt a greyhound.
Every single day I see the positive difference that GALT makes in the lives of greyhounds and the people who love them. I see it in my own personal greys, the greys adopted from GALT that belong to my friends and in those greyhounds awaiting their forever homes in the GALT adoption program. GALT goes above and beyond in the care of the greys that come into their arms. When a grey needs medical help, whether it be a tick borne disease, a heartworm infection, broken bone or a sudden unexplained blindness like my "Spot", they do everything in their power to make sure that greyhound receives the treatment he/she needs to be healthy and whole again. I love GALT with all my heart
My relationship with GALT began when a couple of Greyhound puppies from Oklahoma City needed rescue. Our local greyhound rescue only takes retired racers, but they referred me to GALT. They told me GALT takes puppies. I had one puppy at my house already and one just hours away from being euthanized and the Oklahoma City animal shelter. I was scrambling to find a rescue to take them into their program. No one had room! I messaged the GALT facebook page and begged for help. Within minutes they agreed to help and immediately got in touch with the shelter and faxed them their 501c3. I was then given go ahead to pick the greyhound puppy up less 45 minutes before she was to be euthanized. They saved her life. Once I got her to my home I realized she had some fear aggression issues. I was really worried what her future was going to be. GALT reassured me they have some awesome trainer/fosters that will work with her for as long as she needs. Both greyhounds ended up in fabulous homes and I still get updates. I love it! Months later they took another greyhound puppy for me from the Enid shelter. They help a great deal with transport and make it very easy. I look forward to a long relationship this rescue and I can't say enough good things about them! Chelsi Young- Animal rescuer/volunteer
As a financial donor, it is important to know the Mission of an organization; to see the members of that charitable group act proactively to bring that Mission to fruition and to see the organization grow not only in members, but also in success stories. GALT (Greyhound Adoption League of TX) embodies this model. When describing "why" someone should donate their time or money to GALT; I simple explain the "Three R's: RESCUE, REHAB and REHOME". Without fail, GALT is there for ANY sighthound (retired racers, lurchers and unregistered greyhounds) in need: legally taking possession of the hound and obtaining the neccessary medical care to stabilize the dog before placing them into foster care and ultimately, a FUREVER HOME. It takes great skill to bring a group of volunteers together to achieve a common goal. GALT has not only completed this task...they have mastered it. Clearly, IT IS ALL ABOUT THE HOUNDS with GALT!
I adopted my greyhound this past February. GALT was wonderful to work with. The process was easy and pie and now I own a wonder, sweet grey. I enjoy the news letters, as well as the fundraisers to help with the vet bills for some of the incoming greys who need medical attention. I look forward to possibly adopting another grey and working and/or volunteering for this wonderful organization in the future.
We adopted our first greyhound 3 years ago from another organization. When we decided to adopt another greyhound this year, we reached out to GALT. We have been amazed at this incredible group of people who have dedicated their time, dollars and hearts to helping a breed considered by some to be disposable. They spent time getting to know us, meeting our family, including our other greyhound, and answering our questions to ensure that we found the right fit for our family and lifestyle. We ended up adopting a hound who was injured during a race on a track near the gulf coast. GALT volunteers transported him to the DFW area, sought medical evaluation for his badly broken leg, and after it was determined that the leg should be removed, they made sure he got the necessary surgery and then the post-surgery care and love he needed to heal. He had wonderful foster parents who cared for him until he hopped into our lives. We've been loving him ever since and he has become a special part of our family... we can't imagine our family without him now and we have the wonderful folks of GALT to thank!
I love GALT... I may be all the way up in Alberta, Canada but I love the way they will take in any dog regardless of it's lineage, background, medical status or history. The work they've done for Lurchers and Coyote dogs makes me smile everyday - we have a lot of the same problems up here with farm greyhounds and the care and love they give these dogs is boundless!
I've volunteered with GALT to help arrange and transport injured greyhounds from the track which is south of Houston to their location in Dallas. They truly care about all of the hounds that pass through their doors. WIth very few - if any- exceptions - GALT will not turn away a hound from their program. If they can't for any reason accept the hound - they will help find another program that will. GPA-Houston is proud to work in conjunction with the very professional and caring folks at GALT. They have an exception and well earned reputation in the greyhound community.

I became involved with GALT apron 2 years ago. I have volunteered with them , along with another group - to help transport several greyhounds with broken legs from the Gulf Greyhound race track - which is south of Houston - to their location which is up near Dallas. This takes coordination of SEVERAL parties. GALT is well know for it's ability to work with all aspects of the effort to help get retired racers into loving and responsible homes. From the volunteers - to the breeders to the folks at the track - you say the name GALT and a sigh of relief and thanks is audibly heard. We know that the dogs are in good hands. We know that what ever it takes to make that happen - will be done. It will be taken care of, arranged and organized and accomplished in a timely fashion. As a volunteer - being a part of a group that is this committed makes every effort, every rescue, every transportation pick up and drop off - run as smoothly as possible. I LOVED being able to work with by my home/local GPAH group and RIGHT along side with GALT. It's an honor to be part of their team.
GALT does an amazing job of taking in any greyhound and helping them to get proper medical care when needed, loving foster homes, and carefully selected forever homes. They are professional and do amazing work to get support for the cost of what they do with great marketing efforts that take a lot of volunteer coordination. The love for the hounds is clearly their biggest motivator, and they do a wonderful job helping bridge the gap for these special creatures between the track and life as a dog, or sometimes unknown origins and horrible neglect and/or abuse. The fact that no hound is turned away is one of the most amazing things about this great organization. I am have two beautiful greyhounds from them, and they are wonderful companions. Can't say enough good stuff about this group!
GALT is hands down the most amazing animal-welfare nonprofit I have been interacted with. We have rescued many dogs over the past twenty years, and GALT hands down was the best agency to work with. We adopted a greyhound with them in the Fall of 2011 and I continue to follow their work to this day. They are 100% dedicated to their greyhound rescue work. For a volunteer-run, non-profit, they operate with the professionalism of a big corporation. The efforts they go to for the sake of greyhounds are admirable. They are a role model for all animal welfare agencies.
I became involved with GALT March of 2012 as a foster parent. GALT was highly recommended to me by friends and associates. I am truly impressed with my experience’s working with this Non-Profit Organization. They are always available for support. We discuss openly the joys and challenges we face each day. Their hearts, loyalty and drive are in it for the right reasons, Greyhounds! They are business savvy, sharp and intelligent. They are very committed to saving, nurturing, and sharing the wonderful experience of owning a Greyhound(s) to anyone with an open heart.
GALT is a wonderful organization with dedicated people who work tirelessly to make the greyhounds lives better. GALT has saved many, many greyhounds, an extroidinary number the last few years in a bad economy ... somehow they find the money & resources to help these gentle dogs heal in order to enjoy a better life. My two furbabies are from GALT. WE LOVE GALT ♥
I recently adopted a rescue from GALT who was found abandoned in a trailer with 10 other greyhound and greyhound mixes. GALT does an amazing job of getting available dogs out at meet and greets, provide tons of information for new greyhound owners, and are generally warm and welcoming people. Their dedication to rescuing and rehabilitating injured and abandoned greyhounds is astounding. No greyhound is turned away, no matter what their situation is, and trust me, they get a lot of injured greyhounds that need expensive medical treatments. It's a truly amazing organization.
THE GALT is a wonderful organization striving to make a better life for these incredibly noble and soulful dogs who are basically used up and thrown away once their racing days are over. As one privy to the joys of Greyhound rescue ownership, it is just great that an organization such as GALT with all the dedicated members truly care for the hounds and find them forever homes
I met friends from GALT via FB two years ago, and admire their amazingly consistent approach toward saving abandoned, abused and runaway greyhounds. This group's motto - No grey will be turned away - is a credo, an oath that all their members honor. Their ability to raise the funds for the care of so many examples of this beautiful breed is exemplary and includes the participation of interested people from many cities and states. I live in Ohio and took part in their recent auction of items donated. It was fun, and very well-organized. GALT has so many greys that they have to call on people in their area to foster the dogs until they are adopted to forever homes. So many foster homes answer the call, and some already are fostering other greys in their care. Their updates on how their rescued groups are coming along are heartwarming and informative. The updates have in many ways made me feel close to the greys and the members. GALT represents the best of what animal rescue is meant to be. I, for one, am in awe of their many accomplishments.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is a top rate non-profit volunteer organization consisting of volunteers from all industries, so they truly have a very diversified group of volunteers able to leverage business talents to manage this organization efficiently and effectively. I think what I like most is how genuine everyone involved is and they are all truly focused on the welfare of the Greyhound, which is the way it should be.
I love this organization and applaud their mission to make sure no greyhound is ever turned away. I give much of my time and talents to GALT and will continue to do so far into the future. As a volunteer and as an adopter, I'm proud to be associated with them.
It is through Greyhound Adoption League of Texas I am able to channel my passion for greyhounds. These gentle, beautiful and loving dogs never cease to amaze me. The organization excells in providing medical care, foster homes, and love for the greys who have been given up to their care. The screening process to adopt is thorough and great care is given to placing the dogs in their forever families. Even when our foster homes are full and boarding costs become astronomical the same "above and beyond" care is given to each greyhound. Attention to detail is also demonstrated in their adoption packets where a comprehensive medical record is completed for each hound including all care that was given during their time with GALT.

I have never worked with people so passionate about their cause as Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. The professionalism in caring for the hounds far exceeded my expectations when I decided to "help out a little". We are going on our 4th adoption from GALT and have been volunteers since it's beginning. To say we are greytful to them for our fur babies would be a gross understatement.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) is hands down the best greyhound rescue organization with which I have worked. I am a small animal veterinarian and have shared my home with rescued greyhounds, worked booths and special events and volunteered my time and services with a number of rescue groups over then last 16 years. I have not ever seen a group work so tirelessly to find homes for every hound. They do more rescues and adoptions and treat more broken legs and heart worm positive dogs and other medical ceases than any other group I've ever had contact with. They truly live their Otto of no grey turned away. They also do amazing fundraising and public awareness, but as you can imagine, there are always bills to pay. And hounds to save. I feel GALT should be recognized for the amazing efforts for the greyhounds.
After many years of donating art to fund-raisers and non-profit events, I had given up even trying. When the representatives of GALT contacted me I was apprehensive but decided to donate one last time. The entire operation went so smoothly and professionally, and I was alerted that all the proceeds from the auction of art went directly to GALT (rather than to offshoot satellite organizations who pulled the event together.) I may not donate art again but would definitely work with and donate money to GALT in the future. A stellar organization.
As a member of Lions Clubs International, I have been involved with non-profit organizations for the past 25 years. I was first drawn to the Lions because of the dedication I witnessed from Lions Club members, and the fact that all donations went to charity. So when I encountered Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, that was something I looked at. What I found was so much more. My wife and I adopted our 1st greyhound from GALT over 5 years ago. Since that time I have become more and more involved, and for the last year I have been the treasurer for GALT. I could not be more proud to be a member of any organization. The dedication and focus of the all volunteer group is astonishing. It draws you into selfless contribution to the hounds, because everything GALT does is for the benefit of the dogs. For instance my third adoption from GALT, Piper, was going to be put down by his owners because he required expensive surgery after being attacked by another dog. After being alerted by the Veterinarian, GALT claimed Piper. Three surgeries and several thousand dollars later, My wife and I adopted Piper because he was the most wonderful "child" we had ever encountered. If not for GALT, he would have been lost. We cannot put any price on the benefit we have received from GALT simply because they will not turn away any Greyhound, regardless of circumstance.
Five years ago my wife and I, along with our two retired racers, moved to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area from Jacksonville, FL. In JAX we volunteered for the adoption group at the track, helping find homes for those dogs that retired from the industry. When we got here we sought a Greyhound group that would support our passion for the dogs. Long story short, we’ve been members of GALT since arrival in Texas. I’ve served in various capacities from front-line volunteer to positions of leadership within the organization. The strictly volunteer membership goes above and beyond to insure no Greyhound goes without and all have the opportunity for a loving forever home.
I became involved with GALT about 10 years ago by adopting their first greyhound, Apollo. Apollo was rescued from the McKinney animal control facility by GALT. Every dog from Apollo to over 2000 additional greyhounds that have been adopted through GALT have gone through an extensive medical exam. If ill they are treated for anything from a scratch to a broken leg to Cancer until healthy before they are up for adoption. GALT has the vision and policy focused upon the promise that "No grey will be turned away" and to my knowledge over the last 10 years this has been a reality. We are all volunteers and raise over $250K a year to make sure we can deliver on our promise. I hope you will consider us the next time you are looking for a marvelous companion as an addition to your family of providing a donation to a greyt nonprofit serving Texas.

My goodness what a Greyt organization. I was lucky enough to adopt one of the most loving large boys from them. At the time of adoption no one knew for sure what his name was or where he had come from originally. He was a stray. GALT called him Apollo and we called him Magellan through the rest of his life. We gave him that name because he came from far and no one knew where for sure and ended up in the pound in McKinney where GALT found him. He was GALT's dog number 2 and the first adoption for GALT. He was the first of a total of a series of 5 greyhound adoptions we have completed with GALT. I wish they could all live forever but we only have three that have not passed over the Rainbow Bridge to a better place.
Anytime that we have had questions about treatment by our Vet, help with understanding some of the idiosyncrasies associated with Greyhound racers, or just to muse about the Greyhound's uniqueness, GALT has always been there. I only wish we could find a way to allow for GALT to build a permanent facility that would allow for lure coursing, adoption center, and kennel for processing dogs before they go to either their forever home or foster parents.
This group is greyt everyone is so caring and really cares about the Greyhounds. So many go above and beyond to help each Greyhound and to give the a loving foster home to flourish in. The people in the group are a family to each other as well to the Greyhounds
GALT is a world-class canine adoption program. With an average of over fifty greyhounds at any one time, GALT does a splendid job of keeping them in foster homes and matching them with adoptive families. GALT supports it's adopters after the adoption, and does a wonderful job hosting fun events to raise money for the cause. What a group of volunteers! I've adopted from them more than once, and will again and again. No grey turned away!
I have had such a positive experience with adopting from GALT that I now volunteer and foster greyhounds. This team of dedicated and caring people really put the hounds first and with a slogan like 'No Grey Turned Away' I know that they will continue to be the best. They frequently run great promotions to get people excited about donating and volunteering and have a wonderful newsletter to show everyone all the happenings and the success stories. We are currently fostering a grey and have had nothing but wonderful support and encouragement from the foster team as well as the medical and meet and greet team. I LOVE GALT.
Each year this group amazes me with their relentless work at rescuing ANY greyhound from ANY state no matter the costs or labor involved. They lead by example; never turning their back on dogs that have been abandoned, abused, starved, old or in need of extremely expensive medical care, from a blind dog to an ailing female with her litter of sick and dying pups. They taught me to do the same(only on a smaller scale) as I was involved, just as a regular citizen, in the removal of 4 greyhounds that were being starved to death. Even though I do not live in Texas, I continue to support them financially and emotionally. They are a shining example of what a volunteer organization can do to change the world and help those who have no voice.

GALT is an amazing organization dedicated to rescuing any and all retired racers. They were the group that came forward to save all the Fort Worth greyhounds that were starved and ill this year. They did so with no consideration of the expense, time and effort it would entail. Instead of saying we cant do it, they said we will find a way and they did with much sucess. I donate money to this group knowing it will be used totally to the benefit of the retired greyhounds: be they unadoptable, sick, abused or old. They are there for these dogs no matter what and I am in awe of how they run their organization.
We first came to know GALT when a friend of ours let us know about a greyhound that needed a new home. We got to know the people running the organization at that time, and now have our second greyhound as a part of our family. The leadership and volunteers of GALT are all around wonderful people, who help greyhounds find their forever homes. The volunteers who foster greyhounds do a wonderful job transitioning the dogs from their life at the racetrack to a life with a family. GALT make sure the dogs are completely healthy, and prepared for home life prior to allowing them to be adopted. The cost to GALT to prepare each animal for adoption is far greater than the adoption fee that they receive from the adopting family, and GALT does a great job raising funds. In the past, we owned restaurants, and partnered with GALT for fundraising activities. The truly wonderful thing about GALT is that they live up to their motto of "No grey turned away." Anytime they are contacted they take in the hound and prep him or her for adoption. GALT is a top-flight organization, and one I'm proud to have helped, and will continue to support them as best I can.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT): I was first introduced to GALT in 2002 while exploring resources for a rare breed of Sighthound I had helped rescue on behalf of a national breed club. GALT volunteers kindly offered their input and valuable information whenever I asked. As it turned out, I adopted my own rescue, but began attending events and volunteering for GALT as a result of my interactions with them to that point.
While I still consider myself a long distance volunteer for GALT (having moved out of Texas), in the years I lived there, I fostered, did incoming dog procedures, transported, you name it. Throughout that time I was impressed by the teamwork within, as well as the teamwork displayed “outside” in their interactions with other groups. GALT would assist other groups in the area by helping them with their fundraisers. (Almost unheard of in animal rescue, I'm afraid.) To this day I often read that GALT has taken dogs (both purebred Greyhounds and Greyhound mixes, often referred to as Lurchers) overflowing from other groups, or those dogs whose needs were above and beyond the financial abilities and knowledge level of other organizations.
GALT has meticulously built up a comprehensive network of professionals and specialists who now regularly assist them with the dogs in a variety of ways. One such person is renowned Behavior Specialist and trainer, Mary Waugh Swindell, who is always available to help prepare dogs for adoption, as well as working with dogs after they are adopted. She has been featured on Animal Planet’s “Breed All About It” and is known for her success with dogs of numerous breeds that exhibit serious behavior issues.
I continue to be absolutely convinced that GALT provides the most thorough, comprehensive and specialized medical care of ANY Greyhound rescue group I have known! They do more [very important and often overlooked] initial health testing than any groups with which I've become familiar, and they follow only the latest and best medical protocols, refusing to be stuck with, “This is the way it’s always been done.” GALT works with top veterinarians and researchers involved in cutting edge treatments and diagnoses and will ALWAYS go that extra mile to save a dog! Some of these experts include Dr. Jeff Ellis and the staff at VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital; specialists such as Dr. Bob Radasch and his staff at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center, Dr. Robert Munger and the staff at the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic; and doctors, researchers and staff at the nationally recognized laboratory, ProtaTek. Located in Chandler, Arizona, they do the testing for tick-borne diseases on all in-coming GALT dogs. This lab is responsible for creating new diagnosis and treatment protocols used throughout the country.
My own very personal experience with this… the treatment/medical end, involved fostering a very sick, emaciated Greyhound that was rescued by GALT after being found as a stray near Fort Worth, Texas. Barbie was very anemic from parasite infestation, had Sarcoptic mange, was severely underweight (admitted weighing less than 40 pounds) – with skin and coat issues that made it difficult to even see how thin she was. She was also positive to Ehrlichia and Babesia, two of the tick-borne diseases for which GALT is practically the only adoption group to ROUTINELY test. Barbie’s treatment was expensive (GALT spent over $4,000 on my tiny girl in medical procedures alone, not to mention time, food and all the love and support), and lengthy (she was treated for almost a year before being declared free of the tick diseases). I ended up adopting this little bundle of spunk, courage and love, and had her for a wonderfully happy 3 years before she passed due to damage that had been done to her organs and systems PRIOR to landing in GALT’s loving care. She passed, surrounded by those who loved her, including several of the loving volunteers from GALT who were there with us personally at the end. They were ALWAYS there for us. The celebrated our victories, small or large, and they grieved with me when her all-too-short life ended.
While many GALT rescues have not come out of emergency or critical situations, this organization has been recognized and commended in both local and national media (local television, radio and newspapers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, to the nationally renowned blog, “Life With Dogs”) for it’s efforts to help Greyhounds and Greyhound mixes in dire need of true rescuing. In June, 2010, they played a pivotal role in rescuing 28 dogs from a horribly neglectful and abusive situation in Fort Worth, Texas. Their positive interactions with numerous rescue groups nationwide resulted in their ability to place several dogs with different groups in order to lessen the load on GALT as they took the most severely damaged animals. In July, 2011, a starving mother dog and her 8 puppies were taken from that same Fort Worth property in deplorable condition. Due to GALT’s meticulous documentation of events, and continuous pressure for change in the legal system, prosecution was finally able to be brought against the owner of the property, in a place where such prosecutions are very rare. This has, in fact, spurred the legal and animal control system in that city to be more responsive and to take a more active role in prosecuting abusers. THAT is no small miracle in Texas! Just prior to my writing this review, (November, 2011) GALT again stepped up and took 11 Greyhounds and Greyhound mixes that were abandoned in a trailer in Wichita Falls, Texas and left for over 40 hours before anyone reported them. This speaks highly of GALT’s outreach efforts as they continuously work to foster good working relationships with law enforcement, animal control, city governments, media, and other rescuers throughout the state of Texas… a huge area… a huge responsibility.
All of this allows (or perhaps compels) GALT to take the most difficult or neediest dogs; be they elderly, seriously injured, sick, or behaviorally challenged. They are NOT kidding when they say, "No Grey Turned Away!" GALT takes the dogs no one else CAN take… the dogs no one else WILL take. They ABSOLUTELY do whatever is needed, go wherever they need to go, and they will do this at any time of the day or night. The volunteers, from Directors on down, are VERY personally involved with the dogs. They are all willing to muck out their Greyhound Hauler after a long rescue trip, bathe dirty dogs and clip nails, as well as helping to clean out kennels at the boarding facilities that take GALT’s healthy dogs until their foster homes can be arranged. They all celebrate the victories: adoptions, overcoming injuries and illnesses. They are there for us, for the dogs, to the end… lovingly caressing a Greyhound as it passes, surrounded by love, at the end of it’s life.
From it’s inception in May, 2001, through June, 2011, GALT has helped approximately 2000 dogs find their Forever Homes… their Forever Families. Please check out this wonderful group, pass the good word along, and consider donating while you are there: http://galtx.org
Thank you.
When we decided to adopt a greyhound, little did we know we were truly blessed when we met GALT. They're the premier greyhound adoption group in the country and have the most committed and loving volunteers. I have witnessed first-hand that they do whatever it takes (however much it costs) to improve each greyhound's health to 100% normal before they're available for adoption. And they do all this while keeping costs as low as possible. We can't imagine life without our sweet Diva (former racing name, Killer Diva). She is the light of our lives.
GALT is a collection of volunteers who work tirelessly to educate the public about greyhounds and offer fostering and adoption services for these wonderful pets. They have been very helpful in answering questions and providing advice about caring for my dog. Highly recommended!
In 2001, my husband & I adopted our first retired racing Greyhound. At that time, we entered a world of new friends who promoted these dogs with unparalleled enthusiasm. Looking back, I can't imagine what life was like before our involvement in the Greyhound community. Most Greyhound adoption groups are involved in the placement of retired racers, however, in addition to retired racers, GALT also takes in strays, abused and neglected Greyhounds from cruelty seizures. Regardless of condition or age, GALT makes every attempt to evaluate, rehabilitate and find each one a safe, loving home. While we have never adopted a dog through GALT (we live in Florida), we donate to groups across the country who we feel reflect the attitude, professionalism, and efficiency that continue to make a real difference in the lives of not only the dogs, rather, in peoples' lives, as well through public education and outreach. GALT is one such group.
I began looking to adopt and decided on a greyhound. The volunteers at GALT were helpful and I could tell they were truly interested in the ongoing welfare of the dogs they adopt out. This organization is interested in promoting the breed and making sure that the dogs in their care receive the best medical AND TLC. I began to volunteer because the group demonstrates a professionalism and level of care that I have not seen at other organizations.
GALT's members are tireless. They are out in force every weekend trying to educate the public on what greyt dogs they have in need of homes. They put on fabulous, creative fundraisers that really appeal to all dog lovers. They continue to educate their adoptive families afterwards with classes like Greyhound only obedience classes. I look forward to being part of their community at some point in the future!
GALT is a greyt organization that will always help a greyhound in need. They make sure the new greyhound owners are educated on the breed and that the dog makes a smooth transition into the new family. They truly care about the greyhounds.
GALT never turns a greyhound in need away! I've fostered healthy dogs, sick dogs, dogs mending from broken legs, and GALT has been a wonderful organization to work with for all of them. Very supportive of volunteers, and they'll go to great lengths to help the hounds.
Adopting a greyhound from GALT, can not only get you a wonderful companion but also a whole new purpose. These dogs have a chance because of the love, passion and energy that the folks at GALT put into every dog. Through their excellent network of medical care, grooming, fostering, training, rescue and TLC, each dog is personally attended to. When you adopt a grey, there is help, advice and support. Before you know it, your fostering and adopting more! So far we have adopted 3 our of the six we fostered:) When you see the amount of heart these folks have you just want to jump in and help too. We work with many charities and GALT is the most well run, effective and genuine that we have had the pleasure of serving.
I adopted a greyhound from GALT in July 2010. Since that time I have been amazed at what a well-run dedicated organization that GALT is. I have become more involved with GALT over the last year and am about to start volunteering as foster home for GALT. GALT appears to be extremely dedicated, organized, and great about putting the greyhounds in the public eye with frequent Meet and Greet events where people can interact with the dogs. GALT also takes all steps possible to make sure that the dogs available for adoption are healthy and can stay in thier adoptive homes forever.
We have 3 fabulous greyhounds that we adopted from GALT. Granted, you can't really go wrong adopting greyhounds, but what I didn't expect was the support & community that came with our dogs. We were accepted in to the GALT community & made to feel quite welcome. We've fostered a few times for GALT as well. Having the support of GALT's foster families online & available by phone really made me feel like I had plenty of resources. Fostering with GALT means never going it alone. GALT is made up of caring volunteers with giant hearts & that really shows.
I will always have a greyhound in my family. Thanks to G.A.L.T. I am blessed with a sweet four legged member of my family. This organization not only rescues retired racers, but as in the case of my adopted greyhound, they are available to rescue any greyhound. My dog's parents were found running loose and the mother dog was pregnant. They not only rescued her but were able to find homes for all her puppies. Most people are not aware of what happens to the retired racers and through G.A.L.T.'s education programs that is being corrected. Thank you G.A.L.T. for all you do for these beautiful sight hounds.
We have adopted two beautiful hounds from GALT. Their volunteers, Foster homes and veteranarians far exceed any organization I have ever been associated with. I don't know how to thank all of the people involved with this organization, if it were not for those Angels for Greyhounds my house would not be as filled with love, Thank you all, Ann Sparks
The GALT organization is truly amazing! The love and compassion shown toward any and all greythounds that are rescued by GALT is endless. The dogs are given the best possible care and everything possible is done to insure that they find the "just right" forever home. There is something about a greyhound that just touches your heart....perhaps because they have already given so much of themselves and their hearts are truly made of gold. I now am the proud owner of 3 greyhounds....2 of these were my fosters...so I recognize I perhaps failed at fostering...but I will never fail to love these wonderful dogs and the people who give of themselves everyday to make the lives of these doggies a true "life of a dog"...sleep...eat...sleep..run a little...sleep...sleep...sleep...roach...sleep...change roach posiion...sleep...smile!
GALT has the biggest heart. They never turn away a greyhound (or part greyhound) in need. GALT volunteers take the best care of the dogs. I am so impressed with the good work they do, I donate to them (and I live in Maryland).
GALT is an extraordinary group of volunteers that is willing to take in and care for any greyhound. They are constantly raising funds and promoting greyhound welfare, but they are never pushy or preachy. GALT is very active in both community events and social media to reach a wide audience. My experience with the volunteers has always been very positive. The people are very nice and knowledgeable about greyhounds and the organization.
This is an awesome group that never stops advocating for the Greyhounds. I adopted my wonderful Mona from them and it was a great experience. They are constantly promoting their dogs, raising funds for their care and educating about the breed. I can't imagine that any group does as much for the Greyhounds!
As a lover and appreciator of greyhounds, it is my opinion that this organization is the best. True advocates for greyhounds, they are active in social media, constantly fundraising and raising awareness of these wonderful animals. I have never heard a negative thing said about them or their volunteers. Thank you, GALT, for all that you do!
I have to say I am very much in awe at the wonderful work that GALT does for Greyhounds. They do everything possible to give greyhounds a chance in finding their forever home. I never knew how lovable and what wonderful pets Greyhounds could make. They melt your heart and want only love in return.
When we were looking for a greyhound 10 years ago we picked GALT because their adoption process was so thorough . . . right down to asking for references and lots of candid questions. They absolutely want to match the right dog with the right family. They were available for follow-up questions after adoption and throughout the years as we cycled through being newlyweds, working long hours, having kids, and then as our hound became a senior.
Of the many dog rescue organizations throughout the country I have been active in, GALT is without a doubt THE most professional, well organized and effective animal rescue I have come across. The tireless work, care and education you provide the dogs, the adopters and the general public is beyond reproach. Bravo! GALT you are loved and appreciated by hundreds of dogs whose lives you have lovingly saved and the lucky gaurdians who have taken them into their hearts and homes.
We adopted our fifth greyhound from GALT a couple of months ago. From beginning to end the process was seamless. Communication between volunteer arms was excellent. People were friendly, helpful and attentive.
I've adopted a number of greyhounds over the years from a number of organizations over the years and this was definitely the best experience.
I look forward to further connection with this group and hopefully volunteering in the future.
Thanks GALT, for a great experience!
We adopted our first Greyhound - Angel in the summer of 2001. She was GALT's #004. We have since adopted 3 more Greyt ones.
The organization's "Army" of volunteers is amazing. There are events every week of the year and they are always run beautifully. The love that the volunteers have for these dogs and their futures know no boundaries.
If corporations were run as well as Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, there would be a lot more successful companies. But then, the secret of GALTs success is the love and dedication of the participants for the dogs.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is by far the best animal rescue organization I have ever come in contact with. I have adopted and fostered greyhounds through their organization and am continually impressed by the amazing work that they do to rehabilitate and find homes for these wonderful dogs. Unlike many other breed-specific rescues, GALT does not turn away mixed breeds or greyhounds in dire need of medical attention. In fact, they go out of their way to make sure every single dog that turns up without a home or in need of medical help get the care that they need, no matter the cost. GALT consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty to help deserving dogs, and does a wonderful job of staying in contact and planning events for GALT families. I highly recommend becoming involved with this organization and/or donating what you can!
GALT is a wonderful organization full of caring volunteers. Everyone looks out not only for the Greyhounds, but for each other - it's like adopting a family of folks with similar love for the dogs.
I especially appreciate the top-notch veterinary care that is given to each Greyhound that comes through the program - having had personal Greyhounds with medical issues, I know first-hand how daunting the financial impact can be. But GALT just plows through, and treats every Greyhound with the same care that I would.
I have met a lot of friends (4-legged and 2-legged) since volunteering with GALT, and I appreciate having this network of caring individuals around me.
My husband and I have been sharing our home with a variety of animals more than 30 yrs then suddenly found ourselves "empty nesters" and without a dog when our daughter moved away and took the beloved family Husky with her. We had attended the NTx Irish Festival that year and met several of the representatives from GALT who introduced us to this very special breed. A month later, we began the search for our first grey. GALT was incredibly responsive and patient, diligent and informative. We knew it would be a challenge to find a "cat tolerant" grey that could fit in with our family of 15 cats (8 of which actually would share space inside the house). We found our "Princess" Lacy and have been hooked ever since. I have watched their website regularly, became a member, have donated when possible (including our old truck) and participated in their auctions. My work schedule has prevented me from attending all of the many gatherings and galas, but my heart is with them always. I have never seen such an active, caring, well-organized family of volunteers. I do so admire and respect each of them for their dedication and unbridled passion for this breed. It's no wonder they have enjoyed so much success in spreading the word and educating the public as they strive to unite hundred of sensitive and loving greys with their forever homes. Buddy and I, Pricess Lacy and Hunter (our second grey) would like to say, "Thank you , GALT, for everything you do!"
In June 2009 my husband and I moved from Palm Beach, Florida to Frisco, Texas. Our four greyhounds and one Tabby cat made the move with us. We had recently retired and we were ready for a new adventure.
We were made aware of GALT four years earlier when we adopted our first Florida grey. My sister in Texas was so excited for us that she asked her veterinarian, Dr. Ellis about greyhounds. As it turned out Dr. Ellis just happened to be GALT’s medical advisor. A GALT brochure was forwarded to me in Florida. I frequently visited GALT’s web site finding it a valuable resource for greyhound needs.
We knew we would become GALT volunteers when we moved to Texas. We had no idea of the wonderful family we were about to become members of. My husband enjoys helping with greyhound transports and TLC work. I enjoy training and socializing GALT’s greys to have good manners. We both LOVE fostering.
Early in our volunteer work we saw many grey’s coming to GALT that were so severely sick, emaciated, tick infested, injured and/or old that I thought the only humane option was euthanasia. Luckily for these greys GALT never gives up on a dog. So many of these dogs have regained their health and now bring joy to their forever families.
The best thing about GALT is that they always step up to care for a grey in need. In doing so, they have created a loving and caring family that I am so proud to be a member of.
Having been intimately involved in a Labrador retriever rescue group before joining the GALT family, I already knew what rescuing was all about. However, GALT provided so much more than excellent care for greyhounds--true camaraderie and friendships galore. Unlike so many other groups out there, GALT has a nice blend of men and women, which makes for a fun way to meet new people and do good in this world at the same time.
One big highlight during my time with GALT came in July 2010. I was asked to help with the transfer of some severely emaciated, tick- and parasite-infested, extremely neglected greyhounds and sighthound mixes from the Fort Worth shelter after they'd been seized from a horrible, horrible situation. As awful as the experience was, from videoing the sad eyes up and down the shelter runs to picking off thousands and thousands of ticks, we all came away better people--simply because GALT was willing to go that extra mile to help these forgotten dogs.
GALT will always help a greyhound in need. Period. Having personally fostered 56 greys, including 18 with broken legs, I can easily attest to that.
I do not think words can express the joy that GALT has brought to our home. When we decided to extend our family we knew a greyhound was the breed for us. We found GALT and loved the passion, devotion and expertise that all the volunteers showed for the breed. Cheers, tears, joy and sadness were shared with us when our grey, Spyvie (f/k/a Donny) progressed in our home, and when he crossed the rainbow bridge too soon. After working with GALT for his adoption I wanted to continue working with them and now I am a volunteer. The greys come first, as they should, with this group. No grey is EVER turned away. Even when all the foster homes are full somehow a spot is always found for a grey in need. Amazing group!!!
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is an organisation with a heart of gold. No greyhound of greyhound mix is turned away, no matter what their story or health situation may be. What ever the dog needs in the way of veterinary care, food, therapy or simply a decent bed to rest upon and some love is provided without a second thought. They are imaginative in their fund raising and open to new ideas for the betterment of the hounds. The rescue last year of 28 horribly ill-treated dogs, literally covered in ticks did not prevent GALT from assisting in their rescue and eventual path to full health and forever homes. Three cheers to GALT for their excellent work.
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, (GALT) is an amazing non profit organization that assists retired Greyhound racers in finding their forever home . This is where our story begins...
In the Summer of 2004 we went to our first GALT Meet and Greet. I knew one day I would adopt a Greyhound. My husband and I began our search that Summer with GALT and it didn't take long until our soon to be adopted son, Mackie, was placed in his forever home with us.
During the Adoption process (which is extremely thorough - they contacted every reference to make sure we were going to make good parents) Mackie was brought to our home and felt comfortable enough to lie down in our home! We all knew at that time it was meant to be!
We unfortunately did not have a lot of time with our beautiful boy, as he became ill suddenly in the Summer of 2008 and we had to help him cross the Rainbow Bridge. We were obviously devistated and GALT's family and friends were there with us during this difficult time in our life.
Needless to say, we knew we couldn't "replace" Mackie, but three months later, we went looking again (our home was too empty) and our newest son, Sammy found us! Sammy has been with us now 2.5 years and we enjoy our every moment with him! He is truly a spoiled rotten retired racer and loving every minute of it!
Can't say enough wonderful things about GALT - they help to educate the public regarding the oportunity of adopting Greyhounds as a wonderful family addition. They maintain their visability in the community through many Meet and Greets, local events and fundraisers. (The costs that GALT incur are amazingly high with veterinary procedures and costs associated with transitioning retired racing greyhounds into permanent forever homes.) They go anywhere they are needed to deliver greyhounds to others to to pick up greyhounds that are looking for their forever homes.
Again, this is an amazing organization who doesn't know the words, "no" or "can't do" or "has no time"...The volunteers and board members need to know it's because of them our family is whole and happy once again.
Thank Roo from the bottom of my retired heart, Sammy
I researched different types of dogs when I decided to adopt. I decided on a Greyhound. I searched various local adoption agencies. I visited several events with different groups. I decided that GALT had the best care, screening, and placing of their adoptable dogs. They do great rescue work in the local area and they have a wonderful group of volunteers. My entire experience has been wonderful, and my new family member is a perfect fit thanks to the great coordinators and the care that he received upon being placed into the GALT organization.
I first learned of GALT immediately following the news of the FWACC-28 case last July. I became more familiar with the organization through their website, enews, and Facebook posts. I cannot believe the wonderful work they do. Most greyhound rescues limit the hounds they take in to track racers, and most want only healthy dogs that can be turned over quickly. GALT takes in the most needy without bias - those whose lives are in danger from abuse or neglect, and those whose pedigree may be in question because they are either untattooed or not readable. The transformation of these animals once they come into GALT's hands and the way they thrive in their new environment is amazing. This group is certainly worthy of any non-profit award.
I was one of the first volunteers with GALT and I chose to volunteer with them because of their beliefs, compassion and mission. I am still just as impressed with GALT now as I was day one. They go above and beyond on the care they give the greyhounds regardless of the medical costs one may incur.
GALT is GREYT and I will be a supporter of theirs as long as we are all around!
I don't know if I'm really permitted to write a review, but here goes. I'm the "house dog." I've trained countless foster dogs for GALT. i've helped teach them to walk nicely on a lead, to jump into the car, to enjoy yogurt and fruit and vegies, to run in after the dinner bathroom break so that we could be brushed and get the special treat of the day, to enjoy "treasure hunts" of kibble scattered around the house when my people leave.
Since I am always the bottom of the pack, it is most definitely my job to teach the foster houndies to play and romp. I've been through a lot of them. Some I miss more than others. What I know, though, is that we all get treated the same, so those fosters with GALT really get to learn about the good life of retirement.
I adopted my first greyhound, Cabby, from GALT in early 2008. Cabby and GALT changed my life forever. After seeing what wonderful creatures greyhounds were I jumped in with both feet, started fostering and now I have 6 GALT greys of my very own. I can honestly say my life revolves around greyhounds!
GALT never turns away a greyhound in need, no matter how bad off they are. I have fostered a few that came to GALT very Ill, GALT always goes the extra mile to make sure that each grey in its possession is given the best care for its individual needs. Not only does GALT take in retired racing greys, they also open their doors to greyhound mixes, owner releases, ex-coyote hunting greys and strays. I am very proud to be a member of GALT and am sure to tell everyone I can about the fantastic work they do and how wonderful greyhounds are as pets!
GALT is one of the most amazing rescue groups I have ever come in contact with. They NEVER say no to any hound, be it abused, broken limbs, or lost and found. They have an outstanding bunch of volunteers as well as vets who take the best care of everything that comes their way. Superior care and concern in what they do so well.
GALT has shown it commitment to retired racing greyhounds through its actions. Its mandates to aid all greyhounds is admirable. GALT has shown over the years, that money is secondary to the well-being and health of a retired racing greyhound. Each and every greyhound receives the highest level of care regardless of its situation. For this GALT should be proud and duly recognized for its efforts.
GALT made our family complete with the addition of a hound. They all work so hard to keep the pups in good shape and going to good homes. If our house ever starts to feel a little too roomy we will add another GALT hound in a minute. Thanks to them for all their hard work!
I have such admiration and respect for GALT. This organization takes in greyhounds who need extensive medical care and they do it again and again, no matter the circumstances. Everything from one stray at a time, to whole groups of dogs taken from a hoarding situation. The fact is that volunteers, space, time and money are all stretched extremely thin when a group goes above and beyond this way. GALT deserve to be recognized as the amazing greyhound rescue group they are. They have saved so many greyhound lives and they adamately refuse to give up on even one of them. They are like angels to greyhounds in need.
There aren't enough words to express my deep appreciation and admiration for the amazing people at G.A.L.T. and the cause they work so hard to support. There is a dire need for Greyhound rescue, rehabilitation and education, and Greyhound Adoption League of Texas provides this service as a genuine labor of LOVE.
My family was recently introduced to GALT when we adopted a beautiful greyhound from them - a retired racer and recently retired brood momma. Words cannot express how amazing the experience has been from the beginning - and we have no intention of seeing an "end" to the relationship. We've had the pleasure of meeting countless GALT volunteers who work so diligently and selflessly to ensure that each and every greyhound is placed into the RIGHT forever home - not just ANY home - a "furever" home which will benefit ALL parties for the "greyter" good. To witness the lengths to which GALT goes to ensure each animal is made healthy, happy and SAFE is astounding. The fact that every foster parent gives SO MUCH of themselves - their time, their energy, their home and their heart is truly awe-inspiring. Such loving care is put into finding the right "match" for each hound by the foster parents and the administrative volunteers - it's an inspiring and heart warming process to go through and one that I will never forget.
Immediately following the adoption of our new and already beloved four-legged family member, we felt so compelled and moved by the efforts and cause supported by GALT, we immediately became donating members so that we could continue to support their amazing rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and educational efforts. We are SO PROUD to call ourselves "members" of this outstanding organization and even PROUDER to feel as though our time, monetary donations and love will help GALT to continue providing these amazing animals with medical care, foster care and ultimately the forever homes they so desperately need and deserve. The fact that they achieve all that they do SOLELY from the efforts of loving volunteers and from the support of charitable donations is difficult to wrap my head around - I pray that they continue to find the support they so desperately need which enables them to continue this greyt and desperately-needed work.
Without GALT, it's unfathomable what would become of these animals. It's even more unimaginable what our family would be like, had we not found Greyhound Adoption League of Texas - their selfless and unyielding efforts brought us together with our beautiful new family member, Simone, and for this we will be forever supportive and eternally greytful.
Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is one of the very best humane, adoption agencies in the US. Greyhounds deserve the best homes and treatments and are the least likely to receive them. Too many are bred for racing and discarded. In GALT's ten years of operation they have provided medical care and homes for hundreds and hundreds of greys. Their fund raising for the greys is unceasing and their officers are untiring in their efforts.
I have a beautiful grey, Roxie, adopted from GALT. She is the light of my life and if I weren't 80 years old, I would adopt more. I love them. They are the most beautiful, sweet dogs and I am grateful to GALT.
I don't want to repeat what is said already of Galt, because all of it thru.
They do more for greyhounds than any other organization!!!!!!!!!
They are TOP!!!!!!!
GALT is such an incredible organization. My greyhound Olivia is such a joy, and GALT did an amazing job of making sure that I got to meet a ton of dogs and choose the perfect one. They also have a ton of activities for humans and dogs so we can all stay in touch. They are extremely well organized that make sure greyhounds are safe and well cared for, and they do their best to find foster homes for the dogs that are waiting for adoption. GALT is the best pet adoption organization I have seen or dealt with, and when I get a brother or sister for Olivia, they will come from GALT as well. Please check them out! They have a very good website as well!
I live in PA but I try to help adoption groups from all around the country. This organization is wonderful-they help greyhounds that are most in need of help without a second thought. Their volunteers work very hard to help find homes for retired racing greyhounds. My family currently has 3 greyhounds and I cannot say enough about how wonderful these dogs are! I have had the privledge of adopting greyhounds since 1994 and I am super impressed with this group. Please consider their more than worthwhile cause for while people donate to other causes, few people remember this vulnerable member of society--the retired racing greyhound which cannot speak for itself. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
GALT is the third greyhound adoption agency that my husband & I have had the pleasure of working with & adopting from. GALT is by far the most organized, caring, and active greyhound adoption organization. They come to the rescue of greyhounds in our area without hesitation! They organize many fund raisers as well as FUN RAISING activities that bond our members & benefit our hounds.
We are proud to be associated with GALT, it is a wonderful group of caring individuals who make a huge difference!!!
I do not live in Texas, but I had been told about a stray who would part greyhound and was in a shelter. This dog needed help. Contact with GALT was made and they instantly jumped and saved this part greyhound.
Many greyhound groups do not have the funds or time to help mixed greys. GALT did not stop to think, they just did what was right for the dog. GALT is a great rescue group!
We are foster greyhound parents and a happy adopter of a GALT greyhound. I think what we most appreciate about GALT is that GALT never turns away a greyhound because it might have expensive medical needs. Hounds get treated with whatever they need for as long as they need to be treated until they are healthy. We have had some very sick fosters, picked up as strays, who required multiple trips to the vet and expensive medicines, and GALT took care of those dogs. They are now in wonderful forever homes and living contented, safe, couch potato lives.
I never thought Greyhounds would make a good pet. Until I got to know them through GALT. These folks love their dogs and run a great organization working selflessly to serve the Greys and their adoptive people.
Through GALT, my opinion of Greyhouds and my trust of people has grown.
I have adopted two greyhounds through Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. The needs of the greyhounds and their placement as pets in loving, safe homes is paramount to this organization, and the volunteers are tireless. They will not refuse any greyhound in need, even driving long distances to pick up and deliver greyhounds, and they meet all the medical needs of any sick or injured greys. This past summer was their shiningest moment when they took in many greyhounds that had been seized in an animal cruelty case in Fort Worth, Texas. These hounds had no one to speak for them but GALT, and sadly some of therm did not survive their horrid treatment despite all GALT did for them. But the ones GALT has successfully placed in forever homes and foster homes are the ultimate success stories.
My husband is I are greyhound adopters. We have adopted 10 dogs now through Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. My husband is also a Veterinarian and I am the Hospital Administrator of his clinic. We work with many adoption organizations and none are as professional and well run as GALT. They are amazing with what they do for the dogs and the success they have in finding these amazing animals such good homes. We recommend them all the time and they should be a model on how to run an adoption organization. We can't say enough good things about them.
There is something about a Greyhound that provides us all a deeper spiritual connection to love and be loved. We are the forever home to two Greyhounds now; and our home will always have a Greyhound.
Adopting a Greyhound may not change the world, but it will change the world for you and your Greyhound.
GALT has a loving and supportive group of volunteers that want nothing but the best for every Greyhound brought into their care.
We fully suppor them with our time, talents, and resources.
My husband and I have been a foster home for GALTx almost since its inception. We have also volunteered in other capacties for them, such as transporting dogs to the vet, giving the incoming greys tlc, etc. The biggest thing I can say about this organization is that they will not turn an animal away, no matter if they have funds or the animal will require expensive medical care. It is all about the greyhounds, and they are each and every one given the care and love they need. This is an all volunteer group, and each person who volunteers with them, as well as potential adopters must fill out a form with background information. I can't say enough about the dedication of the leadership of this group. They are AAA rated.
In 2005 we adopted our first greyhound from the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) and over the years adopted four more. We have fostered several greyhounds and I have been GALT's greyhound photographer since 2006. I have taken photographs of hundreds of the greyhounds which GALT has taken into its family and adopted to their forever homes. GALT never turns away a greyhound in need. This was evidenced in July, 2010, when GALT took in 9 greyhounds found in deplorable condition by Fort Worth Animal Control Cruelty investigators. GALT has adopted over 1,600 greyhounds to their forever homes since its inception. The volunteers are very dedicated to do whatever is necessary to help the greyhound. GALT is an outstanding organization and I am proud to be a part of it.
My late husband and I were greyhound breeders. The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is the only adoption agency that we trusted to find great homes for our retired racers. We have sent them many dogs, and everyone is in a super home. I have been able to stay in contact with many of the current owners of our dogs. GALT greyhounds receive the absolute best medical care available. They are treated by the best specialists in the Dallas area. I used to work for a vet in the Waco area. She referred difficult cases to the same specialists that GALT uses. When my husband passed away, GALT sent their wonderful volunteers to pick up five of my greyhounds that I could not keep. I still have eight retired racers. I know without a doubt that if anythings happens to me, GALT volunteers would be here in a matter of hours to pick up my dogs. I simply cannot say enough good things about the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas.
I have nothing but good things to say about this organization. While I am not directly involved with the organization a close friend of mine is and I hear many stories of the things they do to better the lives of these animals. I am truly moved by the amount of love and dedication this organization has to any and all dogs. They go above and beyond!!!
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is a fantastic organization who cares about every Greyhound who joins their family. They bring each and every dog "back to life" by providing them with a loving environment and all the medical care that they need. They enlist the most amazing volunteers who care for each dog and their outcome for a flourishing and happy life.
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is an amazing organization. Tremendous amounts of love and care are given to each and every dog that comes into GALT's care. The GALT group does whatever is necessary for each dog received, whether it be medical care, special training, etc. I have been volunteering with this group for a little more than 6 months, and it's the best charity I've worked with so far! Communication is very open, and everyone I've worked with has been very helpful and kind. The love that's lavished upon the greyhounds is tangible. If a dog didn't experience much affection from their previous background, they quickly come to understand how loved they are when they are taken in by GALT.
We have adopted 6 greyhounds through GALT over a number of years. The greys have come to us in good condition after having been treated lovingly by this group. The volunteers are tireless in their love and work ethic for these wonderful dogs.
I have been with GALT since the beginning. Everyone involved with this group are hard working and dedicated people and are first and foremost for the wonderful greyhounds. I have adopted and I have fostered. I have a broken leg foster now. I live in Austin so don't get to participate in alot of the activities although wish I could. John and Susie are wonderful and caring people. I hope to continue helping with this group for many years to come. Jo O'Donnell
I have been following GALT online since 2005. I am now a member and have recently adopted one of their greyhounds. GALT is amazing. No dog is too sick, too feeble, etc. for them to take. GALT does not put a dollar cap on what they will do to rehabilitate dogs. The dog I adopted cost GALT over $4500.
GALT is very active in the community with fund raising, meet and greets, etc. They truly care about greyhounds and want to educate the public on what wonderful dogs they are. Their Facebook page is great. They don't just simply post information about fund raising; they celebrate adoptions, post updates on dogs who are under medical care, and always respond to wall posts and comments from the public.
I've been involved with GALT for eight of it's ten years as a foster and have watched the organization grow both in membership and professionalism. Many of the greyhounds in our care require considerable medical treatment ranging from parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases to broken bones. We never turn away a greyhound in need.
GALT, along with six other groups, took the lead in accepting 9 of the 28 hounds confiscated by Fort Worth Animal Control this past summer. GALT is currently working with FWAC to arrange for greyhounds and other canines in dire need of medical help to be released during the required 72 hours of holding.
