Review for Greyhound Adoption League of Texas Inc, Dallas, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars   Featured Review

I am both an adopter and volunteer with the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT). I am a very proud humom of a greyhound-saluki cross rescued from a cruelty situation in west Texas and am a temporary humom of a beautiful greyhound looking for his forever home. Having experienced both sides of the adoption process, I am pleased with the care and consideration GALT has for the hound and the hound's future family.

I feel very supported as a foster carer. Any questions or concerns are addressed quickly. They take care of the vet appointments, and all I have to do is show up with a handsome hound. When it comes to connecting with a potential adopter, GALT connects us and makes the transition very smooth. The coordinators ensure that the goal is a positive and healthy match, not just adoption numbers.

I am also very impressed by how the group transports hounds from various locations to other groups, our other chapters, and to families (forever or foster) around Texas and New Mexico.

As an adopter from GALT, I am so grateful that their motto is "No grey turned away" or I wouldn't have my beautiful greyhound-saluki cross. He did not come in healthy. GALT ensured he got the care he needed to become a healthy (and sassy) hound. They spend a lot of time and money on their hounds, and it shows.

I'd also like to give a shout out to just the feel of being a volunteer with the organization. Being a volunteer with GALT is very much like being a part of a community. Someone is there to help, make you laugh, go on dog dates, temporarily foster if you need to leave, give advice, let you know where the best collars are, etc. The people here are almost as cute as the hounds. Close. Very close.

I stalked GALT on social media since social media started, so when I found myself returning to the US in 2013 after 10 years in Australia, GALT swooped in and made sure to make me and my Australian greyhounds feel welcome. I have been involved with them in some way ever since. As a volunteer, they are easy to work with. They're organized and helpful. Their fundraisers are entertaining, memorable, and fun, but it is clear that they are raising much-needed funds to support their motto: No Grey Turned Away. That is a huge task, and GALT rises to that challenge daily.
I also became an adopter. Or a foster-failure. One thing that I love about GALT is that even though The George is now mine, GALT shows interest in how he is doing. They still care about him even though they are not directly caring for him.
I see myself being involved with GALT until I shuffle off this mortal leash.
