Nonprofit Overview
Mission: Afbr's mission is to support basic research in the field of tropical medicine, specifically schistosomiasis. This takes many forms, most of which is to supply investigators, worldwide, with life cycle stages of the three schistosome species that cause the most disease in the human population. Afbr also offers training in various aspects of the life cycle maintenance so investigators can set up their own labs and conduct research independently.
Programs: Research and development is concentrated on a major tropical disease, schistosomiasis. This research includes the repository facilities which houses low temperature specimen storage that currently is supporting research in aids and a wide varaiety of other medical interest.
