Mission: Aurora Dawn Foundation began in 1989 with the founding of "Marty's Place", a one-bedroom residence in San Francisco's Castro district, for homeless persons with AIDS. In 1993, Marty's Place moved to a larger, residence in San Francisco's Mission District that could accommodate up to eight house members. At that time Marty's Place was incorporated as the Aurora Dawn Foundation, a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. Our goal is to provide shelter and support services for homeless persons with AIDS who have nowhere else to turn.
Programs: ADF programs include: MARTY'S PLACE - A residence, for homeless persons with AIDS. Support services for residents range from providing comfort and medical attention, to arranging outside services such as further education, part-time employment, volunteer work and social activities. We have a unique partnership with San Francisco General Hospital to provide medical services, as they are needed. THE WOMEN'S PROGRAM - This new program will focus on underserved women in San Francisco who are living with AIDS. Working with social service agencies, we desire to provide subsidies for food, clothing, childcare and shelter. By minimizing the daily burdens these women encounter, they may then focus on their health care as a priority and envision a promising, fulfilling life. COUNTRY HOUSE - As future project of the foundation, the country house will provide a safe, nurturing environment for homeless persons with AIDS. The objective is to provide a healthy retreat as an alternative to the challenges of daily living in an urban setting.
