I've supported this nonprofit and its founders (Earth and Fire) since its inception in the 1990s. It continues to be the best, most reliable and balanced source of information about psychoactives on the internet. It has just gotten better as the years go by. The founders are intelligent, dedicated and absolutely tireless in their mission, always have been. I couldn't be a stronger supporter.
Erowid.org is quite possibly one of the most helpful sites on the internet to me, for many reasons. While this site successfully contributes accurate information about popular chemicals used for recreational purposes, it also provides experiences of users, and gives specific advice on how to use these chemicals safely and effectively. Erowid also contains topics and articles on not just recreational drugs, but as well on artistic topics and spiritual techniques such as meditation and breathing the techniques. The collaboration of all these things makes for an extremely beneficial website and contribution to society and the continuation of safe usage of recreational drugs.
For those not familiar, Erowid is a non-profit that's primarily known for their website which provides non-biased information about psychoactive chemicals. Erowid is arguably the single most important source for information about these chemicals today, and is responsible for helping millions of people every month to make safer and healthier choices about the drugs they use, both prescription and recreational. Even for people who get their information about drugs just from talking to a knowledgable friend, odds are that one way or another that friend got much of their information from Erowid. Not only is this an organization that's keeping countless people safe, it's become so pervasive that it's literally saving the lives of people who have never over heard of them, almost certainly including people you know.
Erowid Center provides help to illegal drug users and unbiased information to anyone who wants to know more about recreational drugs. I think they are very important since they help minimize deaths and poor life choices.
The unbiased part is very important in my opinion. In the past, programs like DARE have been a complete failure. I think it's because it was taught by cops that only expressed the negatives of drug use. Teens are smart enough to know what's up. By hearing both sides, they are more trusting of the authority figure.
They also keep an internet archive that you should check out some time.
