I don't think I've ever found a site so well presented, organized and maintained as Erowid is!
I discovered it from a friend sending me a link for some drugs I'd been wondering about, and was absolutely amazed at the massive amount of information on not only the drug I was wondering about, but about totally different ones I'd never even heard of!
Information, pictures, health risks and information, proper methods of using drugs, effects, and so much more. Erowid is truly the best place for what you would want to know about drugs, from first-hand users and experiences.

All this information is so necessary for our public, it's amazing how few people experimenting of using drugs in this world, that don't know of Erowid, who could be using it to enhance their usage and knowledge of whatever they're using, not only for their personal safety and health, but for enhanced pleasure from the usage of their drugs.

I would completely recommend this site to anyone wondering about different drugs, effects, usages, and so much more than other sites can provide!

I always use Erowid, as well as always recommend it to friends. It is a wealth of truthful information that you can depend on. This is the type of resource that saves lives. With factual information to user reviews of any type of substance, one can rely on this site to know if they are prepared or not to ingest that substance.

Erowid is a truly outstanding nonprofit for the unique services they provide to the general public. By providing an extensive, impartial database on virtually every drug known to mankind, they give people the opportunity to make safe, informed decisions about both prescription and recreational drug use. In this ever more turbulent sea of modern life, misinformation plagues society, from unreliable sources like gossip and less reputable websites, to trusted entities such as a government that wishes to keep the masses in the dark, or a doctor with allegiances to specific prescriptions. I first came across Erowid when researching ADD medication in middle school, and it has been the single most useful internet database I have ever come across.

When I hear "harm reduction programs" I immediately think of Erowid. We live in a world where the news and the media make unfounded claims about whichever drug they want, i.e. mistakingly calling LSD whatever comes in blotter paper. Erowid helps to reduce that, providing useful, truthful information, as well as links to scientific studies, experience reports (anecdotal) and other information/harm reduction sites. This is a really useful tool for responsable people that want information on what they're getting into, and should be promoted.

I think access to the ressources of erowid can decide between life and death in regard to users. Because one can educate oneself previous to exposure to drugs, one is more likely to decide informed. This is obviously healthy.

Despite the fact that ressources on this topic are highly important to humankind, they are regarded as societal taboo; they contain bogus science and are tainted with esoteric influences. This is obviuosly a hindrance while exploring this world.

Modern anthropology suggests that human development was influenced and still is influenced by psychedelic drugs. To know how we are influenced in a broader sense is one of the most important tasks that we need to deal with.

Modern psychology regards substances in a "less subjective" way than some years ago. And it has been showed that some other natural substances can be used as a remedy for various mental disorders. New research is needed to meet this opportunity and stop the bias in funding science by pharma industries.

In between many questions we have to answer, we can expose ourselves to answers others gave.

While i learned about the world, myself and my profession, the erowid vault contained some highly valued subjective and objective information. Im looking forward to rely on erowid in the future.

Erowid is a very educational place for people to learn about herbs and drugs. What they look like, history, how they act in the body, dose info, chemistry stuff, and much more. Nothing like it!

I classified myself as a "client served" as I feel that I've gotten more out of my end of things than Erowid has gotten from my donations or other contributions to the site. Also, as a counselor, I could call myself a professional in the I've, but for he purpose of this review, I feel that calling myself a "client served" to be the most honest, direct, and useful. That said, I've used Erowid as an educational and research tool for about a decade or so now, chiefly because of the reliability of the days that I've found there. It's all-encompasing and accurate, from matters of legality to documentation of experiences, which makes it a great resour for a wide audience. Also, the relative anonymity (of those who submit user experience reports) help ensure data accuracy and veracity. When people don't have need to fear the repercussions of telling the truth, they usually trend toward a more honest expression. Add to this that all of the user-submitted reports are reviewed to ensure accuracy before they are posted, and, well, I find it makes me feel more certain of the data found there, subjective or not.

It wasn't until recently that I discovered Erowid. I have since visited it very frequently. I find it to be a great source for unbiased and accurate information about pretty much every mind-altering substance there is. There is a lot of information available on the internet, unfortunately much of it is inaccurate. Not only that, but the topic of psychoactive drugs has much controversy and a lot of the information available on the internet is just a bunch of silly rumors. I can always count on Erowid to deliver reliable information regarding drugs. Not only that but it is a well designed and has a very appealing appearance. Another thing I like about Erowid is the section of the site where people can post stories about their experiences using different psychoactive substances. I use a lot of my free time reading about various trips people had while under the influence of hallucinogens. Erowid is definitely the number one place I'd visit for information on drugs, and I am glad I can show my support.

Great site. Informs good and bad( non-biased) information about real things in a real world. Entheogens and ethnobotany in general are the key. Who's crazier? The shaman, or the developer who loves kanye. The shaman respects the earth whereas the developer destroys it. U pick! My point is that creating awareness about these sites helps promote the importance of the environment and how misunderstood some drugs and their effects are and how quickly it is all being destroyed to make way for more production to get physically off the planet to explore before we master our own.

This website has literally been the most useful site i have used. It gives information that is not propoganda on either side of the drug war. Every time i want to try a aubstance, i ALWAYS research it on erowid. Also, it has useful experience reports for near every substance.

A very useful, thorougher and non-biased source of information. Information is given for both good and bad effects of the substances that are covered. Information is well referenced whenever possible, as well as individual experience reports being available. This organisation has saved me a lot of time but putting all the information that I could want/need in one place, and doing so in a manner that I can consistently trust.

I run a directory of jails, prisons and rehabs and I have gotten tons of quality information from Erowid. You can tell they put a lot of work into building their database. Very helpful!

This site is around since 1995. I first found out about it around 98. Even then it already had an impressive amount of information on its topic, accumulating impartially information from all sides. It is centered around substances that affect states of mind, but it does not promote or mystify anything - it actually shows how to recognize something, what the law says about it, what research says about it, how different cultures face it, and the forums have grown to become an incredible resource of anedoctal accounts from users since it has been accumulating them for so long.
I give it 5 stars without thinking twice.

Excellent website. I have used it for many years and has always been a source of accurate information and entertaining experiences.

I first started visitng Erowid after a very existential psychedelic experience during university and the information they have collected helped me to contextualize an experience that was way outside of my cultural heritage as a modern American growing up in the suburbs. I spent months reading everything from the varioius FAQs, to the experience reports written by all kinds of various drug users, to basic effects descriptions and even safe ranges for dosages and other health related information for each drug. This filled a huge gap in my knowledge that was left by cops in the DARE program just telling me not to use drugs (in 5th grade when I didn't really know what that even meant) without providing any kind of context or legitimate information about them. I don't doubt that I would have eventually found more information than the DARE program provided, but at the same time I don't think I could have easily educated myself on so many aspects of drugs without such a well maintained site as Erowid.

I later volunteered with Erowid, triaging experience reports to help get the best reports published more quickly and eliminate the poorly written submissions. Since experience reports were a big part of my research into drugs, I think that the hours I spent doing that work is likely to benefit someone somewhere sometime. The thousands of reports that are submitted to Erowid might be one of the biggest ongoing tasks that the organization tackles, so I believe that any time people are willing to donate toward that cause is greatly needed.

Recently I have not been triaging, but I still believe that Erowid is probably the single best resource for nonbiased information about drugs out there. It reinforced my beliefs that opiates and stimulants are not worth the trouble for most people and allowed be to be safe about my psychedelic use.

Simply put Erowid provides valuable resource helping to make millions of peoples lives safer and better. Regardless of your position on psychoactive substances there is a real need for this website which gives information and detail in one place that nobody else offers. They are the best!

like other reviewers have said, i've benefited greatly from the wisdom that is erowid. any drug i want to know more about, i hit up either wikipedia or erowid for starts. however, erowid usually has much more information [than wikipedia] that is more relevant to the user. more people need to contribute! i haven't contributed yet in my 10+ years using erowid, but that will change.

I came across erotic a few months ago when I was doing some research on psychedelics and anxiety. The vast amount of unbiased information was an incredible treasure trove. Up to that point it had been hard to find something that was both unbiased and easy to understand. This site is invaluable because of it neutrality and the information that it holds.

This site provides extremely useful information on all psychoactive substances you could imagine, and then some more. This site helped me understand what I was going through, and the ways the substance worked on my brain. I believe the large amount of unbiased information directed towards anyone can help someone kick a habit, on top of educating them on the chemistry, history, mechanisms of action, and use or cessation of the substance, to make everyone in substance abusing situations safer, and better educated.

I became aware of the erowid site about 15 or 16 years ago. I've used the site over the years for personal information as well as research material for various school projects. I have recommended this site to everyone I know who wants/needs drug information and will continue to do so.

I am currently writing a new Harm Reduction Manual as the current information out there in my area is severely lacking in information that i feel is relevant. I plan on using quite a bit of information from erowid's vaults and will of course source everything that I use.

some friends recommended the erowid website to me about 2 years ago, after i discovered marijuana and tobacco, and expressed my scientific interest in the effects of other entheogenic substances such as lsd, peyote, psilocybin, etc. through reading other often- times anonymous reports and experiences (with carying levels of clarity and language skills), i am now more able to clarify my experience with more colorful explanations than "it felt good". i find this database of information to be most useful in determining my threshold of tolerance, learning about dangerous mindstates and combinations, and furthering my self-confidence in exploring safely and with minimal harm to myself and my circles of influence. whilst i am without funds to support this wonderful addition to humanity, i plan on making contributions to further empowerment to the people outside of the clinical trials of the western medical institutional model. kudos!

I discovered Erowid about 8 years ago while doing some investigation into new drugs I had heard about from friends. I was really impressed with the treasure trove of useful, non-biased information about all-manner of substances which are out of the mainstream. In a world where misinformation/lack of information about the new types of drugs that are available can mean the difference between life & death, Erowid's extensive vault of data (both clinical & anecdotal) are invaluable. I personally find the Erowid Experience Vault to be an incredible collection of personal drug use stories. They range from the triumphant to near death nightmares and really showcase the appeal and real dangers of drug use in a very relatable way.

I've always been interested in psychedelics, and, well, drugs in general. I discovered Erowid on accident while looking for experience stories, and the expansive database for the specific drugs I was interested in (LSD, psilocybe mushrooms, and DMT) helped me understand what to expect from these amazing substances. I use it to read experience stories on drugs I would never try, namely the highly addictive opiates, so I could understand what they would be like, and I am very pleased with the site.

Erowid is a life saver - literally. Drugs may be dangerous but that doesn't stop people and children from trying them. The more we try to limit this information the more glamorized and rebellious it will appear. Misinformation from unreliable sources could easily be the difference between life and death. When faced with the choice, true and complete information is the only protection that is viable. I appreciate Erowid and their dedication to the freedom of information and it's integrity. Erowid is one of the few places people can go to find decent information about an exceptionally wide variety of recreational narcotics. The site provides a valuable service, educating people about the recommended dosage, effects, legal implications, and physical risks involved in experimenting with drugs.

While governments across the globe invest large amounts of money in fighting the war on drugs, I don't believe that they're making much of a difference for people who would like to experiment with drugs. Instead they push the trade into the hands of criminal organisations where quality control, ethics and accountability hold no value. As a result, people who could otherwise experience a pleasurable experience are marginalised, criminalised and placed in harm's way.

Institutions like Erowid take a far more practical approach: Education and harm reduction. The site takes pains to highlight the risks involved with using drugs. This allows people to make informed decisions, hopefully in safer in environments.

The war on drugs is history's greatest exercise in futility. It's had the exact oposite of its intended effect. Instead of a reduction in the amount of available narcotics. We've witnessed a veritable proliferation of new designer drugs - designed to beat drug laws - while entering the market for human consumption completely untested placing hundreds of thousands of people in potential danger.

Without Erowid, I cannot think of a reasonable source of unbiased information on substances we may or may not put in our body.

Erowid provides a wealth of accurate information designed to prevent unknowing self-harm. The consequences of the non-existence of Erowid would be monumentally devastating.

Erowid and the fascinating information it has was the original inspiration for myself to pursue a biotechnology career field. It provides good starting points for research, generates interest, and educates on the true nature of drugs.

Education is the only way that drugs will become known as useful tools by a society that currently mistrusts anything to do with drugs and Erowid provides a drug user "insider" education, something of a running documentary. Much of the info is via anecdotal trip reports which are not always useful scientifically, but are very useful for recreational drug users' safety. Whether or not one agrees with recreational drug use, it should always be a rational thing to at least allow them the information needed to reduce potential harm.

We don't know the bad that hasn't happened due to Erowid's existence! It can't be measured if it didn't happen, but I would bet much on the fact that countless drug use mishaps have been avoided due to the existence of Erowid.

I used to just be a general member of the public, who used Erowid for reference. I chose to become a donor because I saw the straightforward information presented by the site. Later, my father experienced a traumatic episode in the night, and I was able to use the site to determine in-the-moment that the symptomology he was experiencing was likely due to excessive consumption of alcohol and robotussin. It was a huge stress relief for him en-route to the hospital to ensure it was not another form of attack.

Note that there are many sections of Erowid where it is important to check the accuracy of things stated. Summaries in each drug 'vault' are accurate but may not be entirely complete, forum entries are by members of the public and of course have to be taken with a grain of salt, other vault material is of variable quality - check its sources and the qualifications of the author. Erowid strives for accuracy but some contributors display bias. Still - in many places you will find first rate data that cannot be found anywhere else online publicly, to my knowledge. Ask Erowid in particular is a real treasure trove.

Erowid has no agenda other then to inform people to make wise decisions with their minds and bodies. I've always been interested in chemistry, drugs and the like and all sorts of things involving the use of psychoactives. Erowid, since I was starting high school, has always been my source for meaningful, intellectual and insightful information on drugs and their use. It would be a real shame if anything were ever to happen to Erowid like it getting shut down or whatever. Erowid is an absolutely invaluable source of information. I use it every time I am prescribed a new medication. The substance experiences submitted are anecdotal, true, but they are also free of the kind profit-driven bias found in the 'information' sheet handed out by the pharmacy, or included with the packaging. I've learned more about side effects and atypical response here than anywhere else, and that knowledge came in very handy recently, when I experienced a number of 'unusual' side effects using prescribed ADHD medication. It gave me the confidence to insist I be taken seriously, knowing there were other people out there having similar experiences, instead of being brushed off with the 'well, thats kinda rare...' hairy eyeball treatment one is usually given by harried doctors when reporting an unusual effect. I pressed my case, was taken seriously, and it saved my life.

I stumbled upon Erowid back in college when I was researching drugs and was surprised to find it full of useful information. I never once felt like I was being judged or lectured when reading the site, whereas many drug sites spend more time trying to convince you not to do them, as opposed to actually educating you. Erowid is rather unbiased and allows users to share their experiences, both positive and negative. Most of the time reading the experiences causes me to stay away from the drug, and this works far more than the "war on drugs" scare tactics most other sites use. A truly extensive database of information regarding all things psychoactive. I am amazed erowid is still alive and well. For unbiased and academically fair views that don't encourage nor discriminate but rather educate. A very vital health site for anybody taking, prescribing or learning about drugs in the broader scope.

Erowid has provided a wealth of information concerning every drug currently in existence. It is by far the most useful, accurate, and broad-ranging source of knowledge related to drugs of all kinds, including psychoactives, pharmaceuticals, stimulants, etc. I can't even imagine how many people have avoided harm and/or death purely by having this information as easily accessible as Erowid has made it.

Erowid has provided reliable, research-backed information about psychoactive chemicals, which I use to inform myself about the subjective experiences some of my patients in the EMS field, it has also provided me with practical information on the health effects of psychedelics and how to have a safe, meaningful and life-changing experience.

Erowid is a very unprejudiced yet fact oriented organization. Individuals are going to experiment with drugs irrespective of Erowid's existence or not. Thus I have found this publication to be helpful. Users can enter the experience vaults and view the different combinations others have used and the resulting consequences. If you are going to use, at least educate yourself beforehand. I admit, I have used Erowid during my college and medical school days. I am not promoting drug use, just a valuable reference site. I have seen so many overdoses in the ER; especially at JMH. While I cannot condone drug usage, patients who were going to use anyway could have benefitted from doing some Erowid research before indulging.

I learned of erowid through my extensive research on bumblebees. Ive grown considerably from reading popeye's rantings to placebos cures to now the erowids vaults. Because the human nervous system is one thing, the subjective effects of a chemical are wildly diffuse (due to set, setting, dosage, language, frames of interpretation, etc) and another thing entirely, and information from "officials" often skewed, Erowid has proven an invaluable site for me, ever since I first got on the Internet in 1994. People need information from users from the PHENOMENAL angle; the difference between simply "hearing about" a drug/chemical on the street or from a few friends, and reading about others' experiences was something that needed to be done, and Erowid has come through in flying, pastel-like colors, colors that often end up tasting like peppermints or smelling like incense. Other colors, for some users, were like opening a door in the mind and seeing nothing but Nazis riding on the backs of flying Komodo Dragons. When I read about those "colors," I think: stay away. And I'm pretty sure it's the right move. Erowid is a gem of site and deserves better funding. It's necessary in a drug-addled and drug-paranoid and drug-ignorant world, esp. the USA.

Like time itself; it would seem that erowid has always been. There to guide us and inform us on important (and taboo) health topics like never before. I thank erowid for its constant permeation of knowledge throughout our culture which has saved countless lives, souls, and even changed strong opinions. Were it not for Erowid, I would likely have one or both feet in the grave. At one point I was an intravenous opioid addict. The information on Erowid's website relating to the properties of the drugs themselves, as well as to ways to more safely inject, and as to methods of obtaining, handling, and cleaning needles and related paraphernalia, has kept my body in good shape considering my bad habits. It has also kept me from contracting HIV and hepatitis. I am grateful for this resource and the lives it saves. It irks me that their website is BLOCKED by most school and public library computers, simply because "drugs are bad" and thus so is anything discussing them in any way that is not strictly derogatory.

By far the most useful resource/library I've ever stumbled across. Pretty much everyone who has any interest in learning about any substance (pharmaceutical, street drugs, common substances such as tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, etc), you can think of. As well as it has a variety of useful other information (from bullfrogs to nootropics), combined with simplicity to navigate, and sources are always listed. Simply glancing at this website should entice anyone to educate themselves further, as many (if not all), people consume some sort of substance, and I doubt you'll be able to think of anything that Erowid does not cover. Gave me knowledge and understanding of my mind and body, and helped me kick bad habits from the past, merely by educating myself on what was actually happening with my abuses.

Erowid is a enormous library of information on ethogens and is written in a technical format. This is very useful for research papers as well as informing yourself on risk, safe practices, and prepares you for your experience. It is my belief that providing the public with reliable and unbiased knowledge about psychoactive drugs is one of the greatest services that can be done. The amount of misinformation regarding this subject never ceases to baffle me. Only through knowledge can drugs be treated and used in a responsible manner and Erowid has done everything possible to provide this knowledge. I recommend erowid to every person interested in psychoactive drugs and especially those interested in taking them. I would call it a net gain in public health.

When researching psychoactives of various breeds, objectivity is few and far between. Erowid does an excellent job providing every perspective on each drug with articulate "experience vaults" - the euphoric, the neutral, and the depths of emotional hell. I've been an Erowid database user for over a decade now, am a medical student, and am always happy to meet others who also know of this resource. As future physicians it is endlessly useful to know what our patients are up to, what their experiences might be like with substances we're unfamiliar with, and what potential for abuse/dependency/health risk they may have. Erowid does a great job of providing harm-reduction information to the public while offering information on various alternative lifestyles that are free and easy to access. I personally have used Erowid's information to protect my own health when I have experimented with psychedelics (I will admit that I have used drugs) and I have also used their information to help other people, including helping my best friend beat a drug addiction. Their vaults are a treasure trove of information on just about any substance imaginable, and provides an objective point of view on the health effects and general uses of any substance, including prescribed, legal use of pharmaceuticals. (Objective does not translate to pro-drug. They are very opposed to the use of inhalants as intoxicants.) I have literally never failed to find an answer on this site, whether for my own inquisitiveness, for educational assignments, or health concerns. First of all please excuse my bad english, due to it's not my native.
My first encounter with Erowid was back in 2004. I was introduced with psychoactives during my last high school year and like all newbies I was careless and irresponsible. But sometime later questions begin to apear: "What is this substance?"; "Why does it's act like this with my body and mind"; "Is it safe to take it?". Pieces of information, founded on boards and forums doesn't seem to made it clear and there weren't ANY information about recreational psychoactives in local libraries. Old soviet pharmacological manual "Lekarstvennye Sredstva" by Mashkovsky became my personal PIHKAL. Then, one day I found erowid.org. And I can say this day was as mindblowing as my first hit of LSD.
From harm reduction to psychopharmacolgy. From psychopharmacology to biochemistry. With help of this website I've started exploring my own mind step by step. Not only from the side of it's function, but from the side of it's structure.
And I can say, after the day I've discovered erowid.org, I would never be the same person again. This discovery is one thing, that make me the person I am now.

Erowid is an invaluable resource; they have prevented at least 2 overdoses that I know of from my friend circle. Because of this I am certain that they have saved lives. As other people have said its mine and my friend’s first stop for information about drugs and has never let anyone I know down. I have used Erowid for the past ten or more years and it has always provided balanced and accurate advice, keeping me and many thousands of others informed of the facts surrounding drugs without the usual propaganda governments place on drugs. I have contributed both my experiences and my money to keep this site operational as i beleive it has provided good advice to drug users who are ordinarily outcast from society or made part of a subsoceity. Erowid is an amazing website, and the Erowid Center is amazing as well. Their website has a huge drug library containing everything from Marijuana to 6-APB and beyond. I am a firm believer that people will always choose to find ways to alter their minds, regardless of prohibition. As a result of this, people need access to accurate information. Rather than getting biased information from a government agency geared towards prohibition, or a shady drug dealer interested only in making profits, Erowid provides non-biased, factual information. They have a vast selection of "Experience Reports" in which actual consumers list their body weight, dosage consumed, the name of the substance, and write out a description of what they experienced. This alone provides non-biased information relating to what effects one experiences at what doses. They are also very safety-conscious. The whole point of Erowid is to support "harm-reduction" among recreational or medicinal drug users. Not only do they have their flagship site, which I have been discussing above, but they also co-sponsor and manage EcstasyData.org. EcstasyData is an anonymous pill-testing website, where people can submit samples of their street Ecstasy (a psychedelic stimulant, MDMA) for testing. This is because Ecstacy is notoriously impure, and due to a lack of quality control, can actually be any host of other chemicals. They do all of this in the name of harm-reduction and public safety, and they do a wonderful service to everyone. Even ER doctors admit to using Erowid while in a pinch. After a particularly bad reaction to huffing gasoline (back when I was very young, and VERY stupid..), I remember the ER Doctor showing me an experience report written by someone who had suffered long-term damage as a result of huffing gasoline. These days have long since passed for me, but I still firmly believe that the Erowid Center is an incredibly valuable non-profit organization, and I don't know where I would be without them. I've done my fair share of "not quite legal" substances over my years, so who knows.. Maybe I'd be dead. I know that I have possibly saved the lives of others on more than one occasion because of my knowledge I've gained from Erowid. An example goes as following.. One of my friends was doing DXM (The active ingredient in Robitussin Cough, a dissociative psychedelic). Shortly after ingestion, I asked her if she was on any anti-depressants. She responded "Yes.", and I asked her what she was taking. She explained that she was on an MAOI-class anti-depressant. From Erowid, I have learned that DXM and MAOI's can be life-threatening. I told her to go make herself vomit, because there was a good chance she was in danger. She did, and the only bad result she had was "hangover-esque" feelings the next morning. Had it not been for Erowid, she may have died that night. I know this has been a long review, and there has been quite a lot of rambling included, but I simply can not stress enough what a great service this organization does for the public.

There is a war of political nature regarding the use of psychoactive substances throughout the world. Some believe it should be won by repression, incarcerations and a general ostracism on those who did not choose the use of socialy-accepted substances, others know that psychoactives have been a part of human history since its very beginnings and that their use will inevitably endure.
