Mission: World improves the lives and health of women, girls, families and communities affected by hiv through peer-based education, wellness services, advocacy and leadership development.
Programs: Psycho-social and health education support:world provides women-primarily women of color--help to access care through our peer advocate patient navigation program staffed by hiv+women. Peer advacates, who are also building vital leadership skills. Help women navigate through the network of services, advocate for improved care, and provide emotional support. In 2011, we successfully added latina and perinatal advocates to address our clients' diverse needs. Alameda county public health department, aids healthcare foundation and the family care network support these services.
program expansion:our partnerships with aids healthcare foundation allows us to expand medical care, treatment and psycho-social support services to hiv+ women in alameda county. Alameda county health department support screening and hiv counseling services intended to increase early detection and reduces hiv incidence in alameda county and the greaterbay area, particularly among african american women, latinas, and transgender women. The project aims to reach 72 women in the current year of clinic operation and 525 individuals through outreach, events and hiv testing education resulting in 128 hiv tests and follow-up. Our collaboration with cal-pep focuses high-impact prevention services for persons of color living with hiv and high-risk negative individuals.
leadership development and client advocacy:leadership development for women and advocacy education:world celebrated its 26th anniversary in 2017 and provided a leadership role at the international aids conference in durban, south africa. World promotes leadership development for hiv women through our peerempowerment model of services;90% of our staff are women of color and 60% are hiv positive. In addition, our policy and advocacy division focuses on leadership development for advocacy by hiv positive women. Leaders are trained to represent hiv+ women at local policy tables, national and international conferences, conduct surveys to develop policy recommendations for solutions to challenges faced by hiv+ women. This works ensures the present and visibility of hiv+ women and builds.
