Programs: Current Artistic OfferingsClassics Series: 6 programs, 12 concerts; our flagship series; performed on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the Stevens Center for the Performing ArtsKicked-Back Classics Series: 4 programs, 4 intermission-less concerts; performed on Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m.; an exciting new series that presents a ?Reader?s Digest? version of Classics Series concerts presented as casual ?informances;? Maestro Moody will dissect concert works before performing them in their entirety; he will use PowerPoint presentations to enhance the audience?s experience; concerts are performed at the Stevens Center for the Performing ArtsPlugged-In Pops Series: 4 concerts; popular music and artists; targeted primarily at audiences aged 35-60; headliners include Amy Grant and Elvis Wade Cummings? tribute to Elvis; series also includes a New Year?s Eve performance and a gospel extravaganza featuring a community gospel choir; performed at Reynolds AuditoriumVan Cliburn Gala Concert: A stand-alone, non-series fundraising concert features world-renowned pianist, Van Cliburn performing Tchaikovsky?s Violin Concerto no. 1, the piece he performed when he won the First International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow during the height of the Cold War 50 years ago.Nutcracker Ballet: 12 public performances of the beloved holiday classic in partnership with the North Carolina School of the ArtsHoliday Concert: 1 performance annually, free to the public with a donation of canned goods to benefit the Salvation Army Food PantyMessiah: New beginning in 2007-2008. Maestro Moody and a Messiah Festival Chorus present 2 paid performances of this beloved work in the beautiful sanctuary of Centenary United Methodist Church; an additional free community Sing-Along Messiah is presented in Williams Auditorium on the campus of Winston-Salem State University with a donation of canned goods to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina (Sing-Along Messiah pending funding confirmation for 2008-2009)Side-by-Side Concert: New in 2007-2008; a concert in the Youth Symphony musicians perform side-by-side with their counterparts in the adult orchestra once annually (the Youth Orchestras Program was formally assimilated into the Winston-Salem Symphony in June 2007)Discovery Series: New in 2008-2009! The Symphony presents this new 3-concert family series for families with children age 4-13; concerts include themes like ?Harry Potter & the Magic of Music? and ?Alice in Wonderland Meets Peter & the Wolf.? All concerts are preceded by 1-hour of kid-friendly lobby activities; concerts take place at K.R. Williams Auditorium on the campus of Winston-Salem State UniversityEducational Programs & Initiatives: Symphony education programs produce over 30,000 student encounters annually through the Mary Starling ensemble and full orchestra program, Fun with Fiddles, and other innovative programs. Other educational initiatives include Kids? Club (which meets 1 hour prior to Saturday performances); Postludes casual post-concert question and answer sessions with Maestro Moody following all Sunday and Tuesday concerts; and Music Lovers? Luncheons the Friday prior to each Classics concert weekend featuring a provocative interactive conversation with Maestro Moody and guest artistsContract Services: The Symphony is the pit orchestra for Piedmont Opera?s two main stage productions each year (2 programs, 6 concerts); we also provide both classical, pops and educational concerts for other communities across North Carolina and into southern Virginia
