The Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem is truly a wonderful orginazation that reaches out to many of our seniors in need. They serve Seniors in our community with Minor Home Repairs, Medical Transportation, Grocery Shopping, and in home respite visitation. They provide many services to our seniors through our Senior Center Programs, The Congergationl Nursing program reaches out to many of our community congregations to provide services to people in need.
This is truly a great orginazation I have had the privilege to volunteer with for ten plus years.
The Shepherd's Center is a great community resource for senior adults. I have been a volunteer as well as completed an internship there. The way in which the center enriches lives is fantastic. Not only do the senior adults being served receive great support and enrichment but the volunteers from all ages receive back tenfold. To help others is to help yourself. I am so proud to be a part of The Shepherd's Center!
My Name is Jane and I have become a Parish Nurse. This title may also be a Faith Community Nurse.
My preparation began in the classroom of the Shepherd Center program, This has now expanded to the Community. I have numerous jobs from helping at Church with BP's to branching out into our neighborhood and school. No one can appreciate how beneficial the preparation and ongoing support
that I receive daily from the Shepherd Center, Unless they look at some of the things my church has accomplished as a result of this program. I truly believe we have benefited in the improvement in health
and wholeness ten fold. Thanks to the Shepherd Center for this program! It's truly a Blessing!!!
Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem is a trusted service and resource agency in the community. One aspect of management that is compelling is that they are not a territorial organization but highly collaborative. As a result, I know my donation is stretched to help as many older adults as possible.
They offer many ways to get involved and help the community. Knowing your donation and time makes a real difference is why I'm involved.
We have been volunteering at the Shepherds Center for about 7 years. We find it to be a very democratic Christian agency. Everyone is attempting to assist the clients with some personal need. We consider this our personal ministry to the community. Every client is treated the same regardless of social or economic background.
We coordinate and also do handyman jobs ourselves. Each week we assess clients' needs, assign our volunteers to clients matched to their expertise in home repairs. One week we installed 10 grab bars for 5 clients; this enables each client to move safely around his/her bathroom.
What a blessing it is to see their faces light up as they feel the grab bar, turn on a faucet, or
see a deck repaired!
After attending the Annual Book Sale 5 years ago when my wife and I moved to Winston Salem, I became aware of the many good works provided to seniors in the Forsyth County area. So I volunteered to teach computing to seniors and became more involved in this organization. Now as President of the Board I am constantly amazed at the generosity of our dedicated volunteers who touch the lives of our seniors in so many meaningful ways. Taking someone to the doctor, performing some minor home repair, giving a break to a caregiver, providing wellness classes and learning experiences, to serving the health needs of our older adults through our volunteer nurses are some of those amazing works provided by our volunteers. Without these wonderful volunteers many seniors would be left alone to fend for themselves.
I have volunteered with The Shepherds Center for a Year and three months. They are a WONDERFUL organization. They provide GREAT training and SUPPORT to there volunteers. I volunteer with FAITH IN ACTION PROGRAM. I visit an elderly lady once a week for two to three hours and talk on the telephone with her one day a week usually for about thirty minutes.
The reason I volunteer at the Shephards Center is the outstanding services they offer to the seniors in the area. They don' t just talk the talk, they walk the walk. The Center is greatly respected and appreciated by all levels of people in this area. They are truly a great asset to the elderly of greater Winston-Salem. As the senior population continues to grow their mission is greatly valued and needed.
I have been involved with the Shepherd's Center of Winston-Salem for four years as a volunteer in the book room pricing books for our annual book sale and, more recently, also as a client learning tai chi for arthritis and playing bridge. I also volunteer as a driver to take the homebound to their doctor's appointments. All of these activities have contributed significantly to my sense of purpose and to my emotional well-being. I cannot thank the wonderful staff enough. They are all such a pleasure to know and to work with.
I HAVE VOULUNTEERED FOR 5 YEARS .i ENJOY TAKING THE ELDERLY TO DOCTORS AND GROCERY STORES. tHE STAFF IS SO KIND TO WORK WITH,
ALSO, 2X A YEAR, THE" ADVENTURES IN LEARNING " SERIES PROVIDE US W/ EXCELLENT SPEAKERS IN VARIOUS TOPICS.
I've been volunteering for The Shepherd's Center for over two years and have been so happy to help out the aging population of this area. Taking a senior to a doctor's appointment or to the grocery store is very fulfilling and gives you the opportunity to converse with someone who is seldom out of their home. I am most impressed the way so few staff members handle all the work they du in a cost-efficient manner. The staff is dedicate, organized and a pleasure to deal with.
I find this more rewarding than my past experience in a local large hospital.

The Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem provides outstanding service to seniors over 60 through expanded educational programs, assistance with transportation to medical appointments and grocery store, respite and companion visits and congregational nursing. I personally have attended various educational programs and find them tailored to the target audience needs. The Senior Center staff always ask input as to specific programs and the Center offers a wide variety from "tech savvy" classes to healthy eating to art and music. There is literally something for everyone.
I volunteer to take clients to medical appointments. It is really rewarding to know how much this helps individuals. The system for assigning volunteers to those needing assistance is seamless and the staff are very professional in how they handle the clients.
Serving as a volunteer has given me a sense of gratitude that I can share my skills and services and that I am a valued program participant and that my services are appreciated.
