Mission: Williamsburg art nexus, inc. ("wax") believes that the next generation of artists has a valid and imaginative body of work that deserves to be heard and seen in a professional setting. To that end, wax cultivates an available, supportive environment that inspires discourse among artists in all media and encourages the creation of new work. Through presentation, networking, audience building, artist assistance and public dialogue, wax seeks to enhance the long term sustainability of its emerging artist base thereby contributing to the livelihood of the performing arts field.
Programs: In addition to artist services, williamsburg art nexus, inc. ("wax") produces two performance programs geared toward career and creative development of emerging artists - waxworks and sugar salon. Waxworks is an inclusive performance showcase that offers new and experienced artists the opportunity to present their work on a professional stage and receive critical feedback on works in progress from a live audience. Additionally, participating artists receive professional review and feedback on press materials from the wax staff. Sugar salon is a program created in partnership with the dance department at barnard college which addresses gender imbalances in the modern dance community by creating career building opportunities for women: commissioning the work of emerging and established female choreographers in a context that encourages mentorship, resource sharing, enhanced self-promotion, and long-term planning.
