Causes: Arts & Culture, Dance
Mission: Water in the desert (witd)is a portland-based non-profit organization dedicated to offering innovavtive, multidisciplinary and accessible artistic experiences & residencies along with integrative educational programming. As a porducer of original artistic and educational events, witd brings together contemporary pioneers- in fields as diverse as dance and farming, theatre and psychology- in an effort to invigorate experiences of depth, awareness and intimacy within the framework of our persona lives, our communities, and the larger sensate world around us. Each of our projects derive from the same value-based philosophy-to cultivate a more assimilated approach to social, ecological, and cultural concersn through artistic practice and embodied engagement. We believe that the sustainable dialogue is not complete without a more holistic approach to creative practice within the community.
Programs: We create and produce multi-disciplinary artistic works which explore themes of culture, identity, place, gender and sustainability-serving over 2000 people annually. We host and create innovative and integrative educational programs. We provide accessible, professional and affordable space to local artists through our air (artisit-in-residence program) at the headwaters theatre. We host national and international artistsin residence annually at the headwaters theatre and prior day farm. Guest artists perform, direct projects, and teach intensive workshops in the community. We are actively developing prior day farm in st. Johns into a center for th education and implementation of artistic and sustainable living.
