Programs: Support services: a network of services is provided to help individuals/families move past immediate need to fully participate in united way suncoast's community impact priorities. Programs include health, nutrition/food assistance, shelter, and safety interventions. Through grant funding, united way suncoast supported 72 support services programs at 53 partner agencies. Under the healthcare navigator program, 220 individuals were able to obtain affordable health care insurance and over 800 individuals received education and information about affordable health care.
early literacy: united way suncoast helps put children ages 0-12 on the path to graduation though parent involvement, enriched out-of-school programs, combating summer learning loss, increased attendance programs, caregiver education, reading tutors, and more. Through grant funding, united way suncoast supported 33 early literacy programs at 25 partner agencies. Under the summer care program, 539 students received scholarships to attend quality summer programs aimed at reducing summer learning loss. 94% of those students participating maintained or increased their reading skills over the summer. During the school year, 144 volunteers read one-on-one once a week to 269 students participating in the readingpals program. 10 volunteers lead six walking school bus routes during fy 2014. 189 students participated in these routes. Program participants decreased absenteeism from 16 days to 7 days. 240,910 children were able to access an online library of books through the myon program. Through the family childcare home program, 50 family child care home providers were provided technical assistance, coaching, modeling, and training. 94. 4% of participating homes were able to increase the quality of childcare.
