I can't say enough great things about EQFL. I'm proud to be affiliated. I started as a volunteer with them moved up to being a fellow, and now I'm full-time. Aside from the passionate advocacy they do, the members of EQFL make you feel like family. They truly care about your needs in a relational way, not a transactional way. I love Equality Florida.

Equality Florida is a great organization that has been especially vital in fighting anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Florida as well as always helping bring our community together. Through having a presence at school board meetings, pride parades, and legislative sessions, they have played a huge part in making sure our voices are out there. I also appreciate that they focus on not only the state but also its individual cities and counties. I have been part of several of their student programs and plan on staying involved.

I started working with Equality Florida not too long ago and after years of volunteering with multiple other organizations, I can confidently say I haven't worked with one quite like this one. The care the team puts into connecting with volunteers is like no other, and there is such deep, personal care each person you come into contact with has for the causes they restlessly fight for. Truly such a wonderful organization, and even more awesome are the team that work for it and the volunteers that engage with it.

If your looking for an organized group of amazing, spirited, and knowledgeable people, this is it. I first signed up with them about a year ago and it took a while for me to get tapped to volunteer but I think it's because of the sheer number of people who sign up. I was first brought in to help with canvassing and I loved it. I was given plenty of material and had everyone's contact information in case I had any questions. Most recently I helped with their pride parade and had so much fun. They volunteers were so passionate about the cause and the employees were so friendly and inviting. I've even had one-on-ones with some to talk about how I can get more involved.
This organization has a clear mission, they have a well defined volunteer program, and I'm just so proud to be involved with them.

Equality Fl stands up for all LGBTQ+ individuals. I had the pleasure of meeting majority of the staff and they were all kind, intelligent, and resourceful. Everyone is passionate to the mission and is constantly up to date on policy. Equality FL has paid for individuals to have opportunities to rally for their beliefs, pay to Uber dinners during virtual events, inform the public on all policy changes that threaten our niche of population, etc. Eq Fl also has numerous opportunities to get involved virtually and in person. This is the few organizations I can recommend.

This is the biggest surprise in my political world since I left the DNC to work for someone who might actually DO something for my neighborhood. EqualityFL has proven its political and emotional value over and over again by holding my hand while teaching me to become a real advocate for change and assuaging my hurt over new attacks to individuals in our society. It a painful world for most people. EqualityFL is a wonderful tool for getting past the hurt and into action mode for change. And the big deal about all that is finding a new tribe of friends who are honest about life and accept me for me. I’m a Captain in Brevard County but really… I’m part of this family trying to make changes that are good for everyone, not just a few.

I've been following Equality Florida's work in LGBTQ advocacy for the past 13 years, and have been a major donor for the past 7+ years. From their direct role in bringing marriage to all Floridians months before SCOTUS made same-sex marriage the law of the land, to their immediate leap to action on the ground in Orlando following the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub, to their more recent behind-the-scenes advocacy to ensure the State of Florida rightly implemented SCOTUS' Bostock decision to protect all Floridians from discrimination based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity & expression, Equality Florida leads the South in LGBTQ advocacy! And one look at their financial results - transparently displayed on their website - shows that they are well positioned to continue the fight as a formidable presence in Tallahassee and throughout the state for years to come.

I took my wife to an Equality Florida rally almost 20 years ago in a park in Pinellas. Not that many people, but friends and some food. A guy stood up on the other side of the park and starting quoting from the Bible how we were so wrong and would go to hell. I looked around and my wife was missing. Equality Florida is a remarkable organization, that's been in existence for twenty years, and I am proud to be a part of it. It serves several important functions for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Floridians, and I volunteer to help raise funds for that important work. Everyone was touched by the massacre at Pulse Nightclub. Equality Florida was the first to recognize the need to meet the needs of the victims' families and the survivors in the aftermath of the attack. There was an international response to the GoFundMe Pulse Victim's fund set up by Equality Florida. In three months almost $10 million dollars was raised, all of which were given to directly benefit victims and their families.
Equality Florida was praised for the integrity and transparancy with which they managed the fund, for which they received no fee.

This year, I participated in Equality Florida's annual lobby days in Tallahassee where the EF staff organized an extensive schedule of meetings to reach out to state level Senators and Representatives to explain the importance of protecting the rights of LGBT individuals in the workplace, housing and public accommodations, as well as limiting bills that promote religion-based discrimination. EF also works with school districts and organizations to promote safe schools for all students. This year they launched the pioneering Safe and Healthy Schools Project that is developing the resources for all districts in Florida, as well as the tools by which to measure success and require accountability.

Equality Florida is an important and effective organization, that I believe provides good value. It gets high ratings from non-profit rating organizations, too.

Their staff work locally to support regional efforts for policy, advocacy, and cultural change. I truly appreciate their approach to this work, which has been increasingly more intersectional and multi-issues focused, taking into consideration the vast array of issues that LGBT face (reproductive rights, gun control, schools/education). I have some personal stake in the game..... My son came out at the age of 19. Up until that moment because he was a white privileged male, discrimination or inequality was not something I had ever had to consider in his world. Needless to say my eyes were opened wide... A way to create awareness and equality for the LBGTQ community is for the state of Florida to pass a Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) for the state. Equality Florida stands out in the United States as the largest, most independent and most effective statewide human rights organizations. They have built power as lobbyists, coalition builders and advocates during these decades under some of the most craven right wing state governments, protecting the community from attacks on LGBT people in the workplace, in the area of marriage and family law, as parents, transgender individuals, and as students. Their work in partnership with Planned Parenthood on reproductive freedom, on fair districts, on restoring the right of Florida's 1 million+ former felons to vote and defending democracy make them leaders nationally in the intersectional politics that define our world today.

Equality Florida promotes equal human rights for the LGBTQ communities in Florida. Through lobbying the state legislature, working with cities and counties across the state, developing programs for LBGTQ students in public schools throughout the state, Equality Florida has improved the lives of all Florida citizens. Its lobbying efforts extend to issues important to all citizens of the state. It has worked diligently to restrain the legislature from denying women control over their own bodies. It has worked to promote reasonable, responsible gun control. Most important, it alerts its members to actions they as individuals can take to promote human rights for all people. As a nonprofit, Equality Florida can always be counted upon to use their donations efficiently and effectively to advance its mission. I know the money I give Equality Florida each month is money well spent.

As a donor, I'm impressed with Equality Florida's track record -- 20 years of success in battling attempts to chip away at equality, pushing justice forward in areas not usually friendly to such efforts, responding speedily (and with great success) to current events and taking the initiative on issues like school bullying. My dollars are being used well.

As an occasional volunteer, I'm gratified at the professionalism throughout the organization, from senior staff to local organizers.

As an LCSW who specializes in addressing the mental health needs of transgender youth, I am so grateful for the work Equality Florida does in attacking issues on the macro level. Policy can play a critical role, for better or worse, in the mental health and overall well-being of LGBTQ people. Equality Florida works tirelessly to not only neutralize the pervasive atmosphere of hostility experienced by many LGBTQ people as a result of discriminatory public policy but also to create an atmosphere of affirmation and support by advocating for overtly LGBTQ-positive public policy. When I volunteer for Equality Florida as a citizen lobbyist, I know it is perhaps one of the most important long term ways I can help my clients. I cannot overstate the importance of their work.

Equality Florida is an organization that is very active in protecting LGBTQ individuals in the State of Fl. Most recently, I had the opportunity to witness the leadership at Equality Florida and Mark Puskarich go up in front of Tampa City Council to support a City wide ban on conversion therapy. The organization was prepared with facts and testimony of health professionals supporting the bas and warning about the risks that such treatment has on young ones.

As an intern with Equality Florida, I've had the distinct opportunity to directly impact change within my community and across the state. Equality Florida works hard everyday to fight for equality for all, no matter gender identity, age, race, sexual orientation, etc. Equality Florida lobby's, helps communities, and does so much for the LGBTQ population in Florida. When the Massacre at Pulse happened, Equality Florida was there to rally, protest, and raise money for the city of Orlando as well as the families who lost their loved ones.

I am honored and privileged to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of Equality Florida and can very honestly say I am not aware of a nonprofit organization that can accomplish more with fewer resources than Equality Florida (I can only imagine what they can accomplish with more resources!).

Within the focus area of its work Equality Florida is so highly regarded nationally that much of what it does and how it goes about doing it becomes a template for what and how other nonprofit organizations with a similar focus go about their business.

From the top of the organization - beginning with CEO Nadine Smith and Deputy Director Stratton Pollitzer - and throughout the rest of the organization, Equality Florida is absolutely top notch: intellectual capital, thought leadership, business strategy, passion, tireless dedication, will power, staying power, heart, organization, attention to detail.

No one does it better. Period.

I have served on many non profit boards, volunteered thousands of hours, worked for nonprofits as an employee and as a consultant - Equality Florida is the gold standard all the way around! I could not be more proud to support this organization with my time, my energy, my money, or my passion. The important work they do leads to actual accomplishments that improves the lives for so many. I've watched this organization grow from its infancy to what it is today and they have always stayed true to their mission, grown their organizational capacity, accomplished the goals they set for themselves and the community demands of them, and found a way to keep the community energized when tackling some of the most critical and emotionally draining work around to ensure equality and justice for all LGBTQ Floridians.

Each and every staff member that I encountered as we worked toward the expansion of the Human Rights Ordinance in Jacksonville to include the LGBT citizens of our community was professional, engaging, knowledgeable, and passionate. There are many individuals and organizations who are responsible for the passage of the HRO expansion, and it is evident that Equality Florida played a pivotal role toward that end.

I believe in the mission of this non-profit. About 15 years ago, I had two gay friends who were foster parents to two young boys. These boys had been tossed from foster home to foster home. No one wanted them because they were biracial, had emotional and physical handicaps, and were hard to handle. At the time, the state of Florida would not let these men adopt the children together, only one of them were allowed to adopt the kids. After about a year of living with these two guys (one a teacher, the other a lawyer) these two children thrived! Their lives had completely turned around! Today these two children are grown men. One became a Marine, the other is in college doing great. Now that the adoption laws in Florida allow gay adoption, thanks to Equality Florida, it will save so many children from being lost in the system! Please contribute to this very worthy non-profit. Thank you!

I can not begin to imagine the last two years of my life without Equality Florida. My involvement started simply with my son asking me to sign up for their emails when we attended the first Manatee Pride. I started reading the materials sent to me. Something touched my soul in those emails and it became clear that as a straight ally, I had to become active in the movement to facilitate change. I witnessed the first legal same-sex marriage held on the lawn on the Manatee County Courthouse on January 6th, 2015, knowing Equality Florida was the legal force behind that day becoming a reality. I have volunteered at Pride events across the state to gather signatures to present to politicians to ensure equality in the workplace, housing and public space. June 12, 2016, Equality Florida took on a new role after the shooting at Pulse in Orlando. They became the voice of the LGBTQ heard across the nation and around the world. In an time when hate and vengeance could have been seen as a justified reaction to such a loss, they spoke out unified with a message of love, hope and change. In a time of grief and sorrow, they collectively showed strength and courage. They have put love into action. Since my introduction to the organization, my son has come out as gay. I could not think of better role models for him than the individuals I have met as staff, interns and volunteers at Equality Florida.

I’ve been involved with Equality Florida (EQFL) since June, 2005, when it was 8 years old. At that time, a Hillsborough County Commissioner pushed an extremely discriminatory policy, one I thought to be unconstitutional, through the Commission banning county employees from recognizing any and all activities of Gay Pride Month even during their own, private time. Needless to say, this caused a huge amount of anger in the LGBT community along with all of those of us who stand with our fellow citizens.

EQFL and some other organizations called an emergency town hall to help ease the tensions. This was my introduction, and it was awe-inspiring.

I watched as the wonderfully well-educated, well-spoken, intelligent and thinking CEO of EQFL, Ms. Nadine Smith, heard our rage and desire for revenge of the something like 700 people in attendance that night and still convinced us to channel it toward positive energy, positive steps, the Michelle Obama’s “going high” approach, and gave us group exercises to do right then to bring everyone along so that we all moved forward together. I repeat: awe-inspiring.

Nadine did this, and continues always to do this, as does EQFL, because she knew that the only way really to win a struggle is by the long-term changing of hearts and minds. Revenge might feel good at the moment, but it does dreadful harm to changing hearts and minds; positive interaction might take longer, but it is the only thing that actually works in the end. That’s what EQFL showed this huge group of angry people, and they found a way to become positive and move forward with some terrific ideas.

I became a member that night in 2005 and have been a member ever since.

Over the years, EQFL has grown in size—I’m not sure of the full number of members, but I believe it is now something like a couple hundred thousand, and it started back in 1997 with about 15—in stature, in capability, in knowledge—legal, personal, personnel, technical, and you-name-it—but it has never changed its focus on changing hearts and minds. It has fought against bad bills all over the state, including Tallahassee, and for good bills; it has spoken in front of almost every legislative or county/city board you can name in support of the LGBT adults and children; it has been everywhere 365/24 to do what it can to help make the lives of our fellow citizens better, safer, fairer, and what they should be: equal. During all of this tremendous work, their focus has remained to change hearts and minds.

I’ve been so impressed by all the work and all the growth I’ve seen both in the organization as a whole and in each of the leaders individually. Some I’ve seen start as fairly young, just out of college, grow into mature, capable leaders and speakers ready to take on the future of this country. That’s come from working with EQFL, and our country benefits from it.

Again, I’ve been so impressed by the work, the growth, the people, and the organization as a whole and recommend Equality Florida for as many awards as there are available to it.

Equality Florida has enabled and empowered my wife and myself to get involved in critical issues facing the Florida LGBT Community (i.e. Marriage , Housing, Employment.) The organizers encourage all Floridians (gay, lesbian, transgender & straight) to feel involved and that each all of our voices are important and will be heard. We have met so many wonderful people through EQ FL events (political and social) that we consider dear friends. The quick response with aid to Pulse victims and their families was amazing in terms of money raised and speed of providing the aid. Thank you Equality Florida (Ro, Nate, & Nadine) for encouraging and providing avenues for so many people to get involved and learn about the past and latest issues, and feel like each one of us can make a difference.

Equality Florida took immediate action after the tragic events at Pulse and took a strong stance of advocacy for LGBTQ rights and common sense gun control. Equality Florida served as a bridge between religious faiths, ethnic groups, and and conservative groups to provide education and become a positive change agent for human rights for all. Equality Florida has taken steps towards blocking the passage of anti-LGBT legislation, including the detrimental motion for conversion therapy for LGBTQ youth. Equality Florida is an organization I became acquainted with because of the energy and charisma of individuals within the organization. At first I simply attended the annual gala but as I began to meet more people who shared a special part of themselves with me--I knew this was an organization I would want to spend more time with, and I did. I work in higher education and over the last couple of years we have had guest speakers from the community talk with our students. This year I was so very pleased when I reached out to Equality Florida and pitched the idea of having all of our speakers be from EQFL; that the organization obliged and once again very special people from the organization are sharing a piece of themselves. Except this time these hardworking people are sharing their stories with undergraduates and the college community.

The next door neighbor and even the HOA of the condo I was renting but discriminated against me after the attack fro the neighbor (2 counts of aggravated assault) he tried to kill me and I almost had to shoot him, The HOA tried to evict me the victim, I went to state Reps to Senators offices I called the Governor the Mayor , the City commsiioner who helped me largo police, I called the FBI as the neighbor would stand on his lawn and scream curse threaten to kill use the "N" word and call me derogatory names. I was being attacked from every which way including flying the Gay flag during the month of June right after the Orlando massacre . Even though there were ZERO rules regarding this. Finally I heard about Equality Florida who listen to my story, let me volunteer in such a crucial time, I had just moved to Florida and didn't know any Gay people and was so alone during this crisis. I went to all the candle light vigils in Tampa thanks to Equality Florida telling me about them I went also to Hillsborough County Commissioners meeting to raise the flag and even spoke before them . Finally I was told by Equality Florida about Pinellas County Human Rights in Clearwater and to go and file charges and than and only than did my story and my pain and suffering change because I filed charged against the HOA and was able to connect the story to my attacker including I won 30 year Injunction against hime as well. Up till than the HOA and my victim were successful in terrorizing me and I moved here not knowing anyone. I am a straight ally, a donor, a volunteer, and a member of Equality Florida. I have been so for many, many years.

Equality Florida has grown from a few to thousands of members over its two decades of life, because it has worked from the trenches—you name a trench, and EQFL is working there—with respect for all and asked for and stood for respect for all, especially, of course, the LGBTQ community. They have worked for and won anti-bullying laws, domestic partnerships—even in some of the most conservative towns—stood with those who were angry about horrendously discriminatory policies while turning that anger into positive actions so that, always, in the end, we are winning the hearts and minds of Floridians, at least those who are part of what is called the “moveable middle.” Their successes go on and on just as does the work still necessary. What is continuous is EQFL’s commitment to respect for all, fair and equal rights for all, and working hard until we reach that point.

Equality Florida is at once statewide and local, omni-present yet personal. I learn of the latest in state and national Equality battles from my friends on Facebook who happen to work for Equality Florida...at times minute by minute updates that keep me cheering as if watching sports. Their support (sweat and dollar) of local candidates is phenomenal and absolutely vital to maintaining our local vision here in Alachua county. I imagine this is is the case throughout Florida. The group of folks leading Equality Florida are the smartest, most dedicated bunch of people I've ever met. Watching them make our communities better one carefully planned and fabulously executed step at a time is a master class in non-profit management. Other groups WISH they had this much talent, drive, energy, enthusiasm, and support.

My husband and I have been donors and host committee members for several years. This group is awesome. They are getting the job done in securing equality in Florida. They deliver on their promises and work tirelessly for the struggle. We are proud to support them year after year!

Several months ago I was invited to join Equality Florida and am very glad I did. Nadine Smith and the entire organization has done a fantastic job of keeping everyone informed of the issues and breaking news stories. Getting involved with the lawsuits that are now pending in Florida was such a big uplift for the entire LGBT community! I can't thank them enough for what they have done to secure equal rights for all. VERY PROUD to be a member of Equality Florida.

I began interning for Equality Florida at the beginning of summer 2014 as their public policy intern. Within a few weeks, I witnessed the passion and determination Equality Florida staff members infuse into their work.
Nadine Smith began this organization with a vision for equality and I can assure you its right on the horizon. Equality Florida is a fierce and tightly knit organization compiled of people who fight against injustices. And if that doesn't move you, than I don't know what will!
I was truly humbled after working with Equality over the summer that I decided to stay on for Fall 2014 as their communications intern. I cannot wait to see what Equality Florida is going to do next in the fight for equality.

Equality Florida is one of the best organizations in which I have been involved. I say this speaking from 40+ years of experience in advocacy interests. EQ is professionally managed. Their directors and spokespersons are consistently top notch. They know the content and issues and speak eloquently, thoroughly and professionally.
I have been to many EQ events. I have volunteered and help with events. In all instances, I want to keep coming back for more.

Equality Florida has been the leader for LGBT rights for Floridians for close to 20 years. Thanks to Equality Florida the majority of Floridians now have access to anti-bullying in schools, domestic partner registries, anti-discrimination, employment and housing rights that was not thought possible in the years past. Bringing these equal rights to the balance of LGBT Floridians along with equal marriage rights is EQFL's future mission. They are the best organization to do this and they deserve the support of all of Florida's LGBT community and straight allies so they can get this accomplished for us.

Sometimes you run across an organization that compels you to take action. It reminds you injustice still exists, and it provides an opportunity for you to stand up, be counted, and help move the needle on a cause you care about. For me, that organization is Equality Florida. As a volunteer, I see firsthand Equality Florida's progressive impact on helping to secure full equality for the LGBT community, and I am proud to be a part of it!

My involvement with EQFL started four years ago, when I attended the Tampa Bay Gala as a guest. After hearing Nadine speak for the first time, I knew the organization was the right one to support financially and with my time. Four years later EQFL is still working very hard for equal rights for everyone. -MM

As the past Steering Committee Chair for Broward often logging 50 hour weeks in volunteer work and current Board Member, I would not be doing this work if I didn't think that EQFL wasn't a first class organization. The people who criticize the leadership have always had a hidden agenda. EQFL has reached out to work with these folks only to be rebuffed at every turn. The State wide results of bringing about countless Domestic Partnership Registries, Equal Benefits Ordinances, protecting students under the Safe Schools Programs while partnering with other organizations and helping to reverse the ban on gay adoption are many of the successes EQFL has earned. The staff from top to bottom is first rate.

Equality Florida has clearly done impactful, law changing work in our state. Especially over the last three years, this group has leveraged positive policy change through smart and strategic thinking. I am grateful for their diligence and tenacity and applaud their savvy efforts and successes.

I work for Equality Florida and know firsthand that Nadine Smith is the fiercest defendant of equality, the hardest working, widest-ranging, most sought after expert and visionary, who leads by example with a dedicated team of almost as hard-working staff, and that their accomplishments speak for themselves. A reviewer below said that Equality Florida has not passed state-wide policy, but the Jeffrey Johnson Safe Schools Act passed in 2008 and was one that Equality Florida worked long and hard on. In addition the gay adoption ban was overturned in 2010. Equality Florida does not take sole credit for these victories, as many entities contributed huge resources; Equality Florida is proud to form alliances and build coalitions in order to get these policies passed. Local and State legislators as well as business leaders call on Equality Florida for expertise when developing new LGBT-inclusive policies.

Equality Florida spends so much on their programs, and less on lavish travel and dinners and parties. Fortunately, our membership see the big picture, and don't require obsequiousness--just results. An example of our CEO Nadine's hard work, leadership by example and eye on the bottom line: Just this past weekend, Nadine drove her car from St Pete to Fort Lauderdale (holding tele meetings the entire way) for the bi-annual weekend Board meeting, where she stayed at the home of her Deputy Director working until 2 a.m. each night, and ate home-cooked meals the entire weekend. Her wife runs a garden co-op for low-income families, btw.

All with the will to make positive change are welcome to join the ever-increasing network of individuals and LGBT-equality non-profits who recognize that while Equality Florida may not be perfect, we are the most connected agency, with the clearest vision, the most developed infrastructure and the greatest capacity to pull us all together to bring equality to Florida---not that it's going to be easy to pull this Southern State into the 21st century, but it is inevitable.

I have learned that my hard earned money has gone to the director's huge salary, travel, entertainment expenses, fundraising/party expenses, parades, etc ... yet no statewide LGBT laws have been passed. In fact, things have gotten worse. Do your homework and check with others who have learned to tell her "NO".

When my partner and I moved to Tampa, Florida five years ago were were astounded that all the civil rights which we took for granted in New Jersey were not assured us in Florida. Equality Florida has made major strides on the local and state level to assure equality for the LGBT community in Florida, for example our rights to adopt children. In addition to raising our voice in government, Equality Florida has an important educational mission and increasingly includes our str8 brothers and sisters in our efforts. I doubt there is not more important human/civil rights effort in Florida today than Equality Florida.

Equality Florida is the hardest working social justice non-profit in the State of Florida. They are providing the tools to let activists and citizens throughout the state make change where they live - whether this is encouraging their employer to offer domestic partner benefits, helping pass non-discrimination ordinances in their city or county, lobbying their state Representatives or Senators to repeal Florida's anti-gay adoption ban, or joining national actions to pass hate crimes laws. Equality Florida is helping elect pro-equality champions and openly gay officials in every corner of the state. They are helping donors in Florida understand the power their contributions can have when mobilized in a coordinated way to fight for equality. Powerful coalitions are a hallmark of Equality Florida's work, as with the Fairness for all Families coalition, made up of the NAACP, Planned Parenthood, the Association of Retired Americans, consumer groups, unions and a range of faith leaders.
