Zaksee is by far my favorite place to volunteer in the Tampa area. The owner shows tru passion for his birds and shows it through the care and beauty put into the sanctuary.
Perfect place to see multiple types of parrots and I really enjoyed working with the manager. He puts in a lot of work into caring for the birds and I he takes in as many birds as he can manage. I really believe this place should be visited more often by more people and everyone should volunteer because the parrots were great to work with.
The volunteers and owner deeply care about the well being of the birds! They work around the clock to provide the best care for them, many of them were orphaned and or abused and to see how they interact with the owner in such a loving say touched my heart. They desperately need donations especially after a hurricane destroyed many of the cages. They are a non-profit organization and need donations to care, feed, and love them. Great non-profit organization and hope good fortune for them!
While volunteering at this sanctuary, the guy in charge, Magic, was very helpful as well as generous as he ordered pizza and provided water for all the volunteers. His knowledge of the birds are second to none and he cares for them like they are his own kids. Truly a wonderful non profit.
They do a great job of making sure the birds are well taken care of the birds and it is a great place to volunteer if you like being outside and like being around animals
Magic, the owner of Zaksee’s Bird Sanctuary in Tampa is a very outgoing individual who you can tell cares about the birds he takes under his wing as well as those who visit to volunteer, he rewarded my group and I with pizza and refreshments. Throughout my volunteer experience, Magic taught us how he takes care of the birds, where they come from, and how to conserve the environment surrounding the sanctuary, at the end of our day, we learned so much about how sanctuaries work and why it is such a passion for him as he maintains the structural integrity of the sanctuary.
This place is great! I love spending time volunteering and working with the birds. It is run by a great guy named Magic. He is very good with the birds and always having them come out to let you see them. Definitely a well run place with an emphasis on taking care of these birds
Zaksee Bird Sanctuary is a great non-profit if you like working with birds. The work is for a great cause of helping birds with no home go to people who will truly care for them. The caretaker of Zaksee, Magic, is very nice to work with and has an amazing back story. If you want a place to volunteer I highly recommend Zaksee.
This is a bird sanctuary, owned by one very kindhearted man. The owner, Majid, otherwise known as Magic, is very knowledgeable on the care of the HUNDREDS of birds he has in sanctuary. The birds are taken care of extremely well, and he goes above and beyond to make sure they are fed, watered, and keep safe, healthy, and happy.
Myself and my son went to see Magic today in regards to a Cockatiel that was given to us 3 months ago. I watched the videos on YouTube, I went on the website, and I loved what I saw. When we got to Citrus Park and actually met Magic and he gave us a tour of his sanctuary, we were more impressed than ever. He has dedicated his life to these birds, and it was easy for me to decide to donate to his cause. I know I have found the perfect home for our Cockatiel to fly and to be around his Cockatiel family. I will be a regular monthly donor and will be donating my time as well. I am so happy for Marlin, our Cockatiel; he will be free to fly and have his own family he can chirp and play with.
My girlfriend and I visited several available sanctuary locations in Florida before ultimately choosing Zaksee. The people here know what they’re doing and it is very clear that the birds feel safe and loved. These people give a lot of time and attention to animals in need.
Every aviary and flight cage is hand built by Magic and his team of volunteers. Any parrot owner knows how expensive it is to keep up with a large bird, as the need for toys and hard shelled nuts to destroy is never ending. You can be sure any donations to this organization go directly to caring for the birds, and not to promote signs or tourism for a petting zoo that exploits these vulnerable animals.
Zaksee bird sanctuary is an amazing place where birds are not only cared for, but also given proper attention and consideration to ensure the best long term environment for their individual needs. Everyone is hand fed organically grown mangos and bananas everyday— in addition to having one on one time socializing and being handled.
Parrots are highly intelligent and strong creatures that require a great deal of time, patience, and care. The owner and a team of dedicated vet technicians and other volunteers provide this for 8-10 hours every day. Making any kind of donation helps support the cost of feeding and upkeep of these magnificent birds.
The absolute most eyeopening experience of my life was with Zaksee’s Bird Sanctuary. This is a place that demonstrates true altruism and feels strongly about the protection and preservation of beautiful wildlife. Magic, the good-spirited caretaker of the birds puts extensive effort into ensuring that his birds are well nourished and most importantly, HAPPY. His relationship with the birds is something you would see in a movie, it is so heartwarming and the way he talks about the birds you know that he lives his life to protect them. He refuses visitors so that the once abused birds can live stress-free, and he is firm in his belief that these birds are not just meant to be looked at by tourists, but geniunely loved and cared for around the clock. It was a pleasure to help him out, and I would be overjoyed to have the opportunity to lend him a much deserved helping hand again. Thank you Zaksee’s Bird Sanctuary, and Magic, for showing the world what it really means to care for wildlife without any personal gain.
Beautiful sanuaury filled with stunning birds off all shapes and sizes! Owner does majority of the work on his own dollar and time. If you’re in town please reach out to them!
I recommend that if you like birds and have some time weekly to volunteer, to dedicate time to Zaksee. Every bit of your time helps these parrots.
Over the numerous times I've visited and volunteered at Zaksee's, I've never stopped being amazed at how hands on Magic and the other volunteers are with the birds. Not only is this sanctuary overly informative, you never doubt the amount of love Magic and his staff of volunteers have for the birds. I can not believe how much time and dedication is given to the birds. Even with the amount of birds at the sanctuary, each and every bird has different needs and every time, I see that each bird is still treated on a case by case basis. It's a spectacular place that makes me see that there's still wonderful people willing to do whatever it takes to help animals in need. Totally recommend swinging by to see the magic for yourself or take an afternoon to snuggle some sweet-pea birds who love some cuddling.
I’ve been here numerous times and Magic truly cares about the birds. He dedicates so much time and effort to the sanctuary.
ZAKSEE is the BEST Bird Sanctuary I’ve ever been too. The birds are very well taken care of by Magic. He works very hard to make sure that all of the birds are taken care of.
My high school son enjoys volunteering here. Magic loves all the birds and wants to give them the best care. As more birds come he also needs more help and I highly recommend volunteering here if you love birds! Some are even available for adoption (not for breeding purposes) so it is also a great place to find a bird friend!
There are not many organizations that take unwanted parrots. This place is amazing. The birds are loved and well taken care of. The man that runs this place knows and loves each bird. It's run completely on donations and volunteers. Magic, the owner, is a special kind of person to dedicate his life to running this place.
This is an amazing facility for unwanted exotic birds. I started volunteering there recently and I am so impressed with how well the birds are cared for.
Zaksee is located off the main roads, and has a tropical jungle like vibe with lots of bamboo, banana trees, etc. There is a small creek at the back of the sanctuary. Magic works hard and is very dedicated to the birds. He's feeds, waters and gives out treats to all the birds everyday.
I recently lost my my family member. I did not know of Zaksee Bird Sanctuary but was led to this location for a reason. I spent all morning with Magic feeding all his birds he cares for. He told me the story of each and every bird. Most cannot be adopted and are there to spend their life with him. Even the meanest of birds went to him with love. This is not something you can easily control for a show as some would claim. He is genuine, cares and loves everyone of them.
This man helped me in my grief and actually led me to a new family member to care and love for.
I believe in this man and his purpose God has chosen for him in his life. The Sanctuary is the real deal. I rode down the very dirt road that someone has claimed was so despicable. The road we follow to good does not always come paved with gold. It is what we find at the end that exceeds all value.
I enjoyed my time with Magic and plan on visiting him again. He needs support from the community to continue his following. Feeding and caring for all these birds does not come without a price. Please donate any thing you can to help him continue with his dream of supplying a loving home for the neglected and abused.
This Sanctuary is the real thing. I thank God for leading me to this man and his home.
Had a great experience bringing my students here! We got to learn about the pet industry, bonding with rescued and surrendered birds, and more. At the end of the day it warms your heart to know there is a place where these birds can be loved, a place that picks up the ethical slack that the breeders and traders leave behind.
The birds have tons of space in their enclosures and more importantly had tons of socialization with the other birds and with the man who cares for them. Magic was super knowledgeable about the birds and was great about answering our many random questions. My students especially loved holding the birds and talking to them, looking into their eyes and getting to share an experience with these creatures face-to-face without contributing to the injustices of the pet trade.
I can see where other reviewers might judge this place based on the surrounding land-use, but keep in mind the purpose of this sanctuary - to provide these birds with a safe and loving home to live out the rest of their days. Zaksees accomplishes that. Is it a little off-the-beaten path? Sure, but the birds hardly seems to mind ;)
Hello, I am a volunteer at Zaksee and I love every single second I am there! Majid (pronounced magic) is incredibly selfless in his dedication to these beautiful creatures. His knowledge is extensive. He puts in 12 hour days, 7 days a week to upkeep the birds and surroundings along with a handful of us volunteers. After all the birds are fed and watered in the morning then we take the time to sit and socialize with the cockatoos, parrots and love birds that can be trusted to be removed from their cages. We love them to pieces and get as much from our “cuddle time” as the birds believe me. The other Macaws, African Greys, Sun Conures, Parrots etc that are caged are fed individualized treats and talked too extensively. We have many games like peek a boo, dancing, singing and generally acting silly. The cages have toys, boxes and wood for chewing and are kept as clean as possible.
I’d like to address the 1/5/19 review from Birdpeople1: Zaksee has no control over how “some” people on Gardner Road upkeep their homes. It is a low income area. I have driven up and down that road and have never seen anyone I’d classify as a “druggie”. All comments regarding the area I feel are very judgmental and not representative of our sanctuary. Majid is down a dirt road as the 5 acres were once owned by the surrounding horse farm as I understand it. I have never gotten stuck or barely stuck with my Honda Civic in any weather as of now.
This sanctuary is not a huge facility open to the public with all the “people amenities “ that a larger non-profit with lots of donations has. It is 5 acres purely set-up for these abandoned, abused or donated birds to live out their days, fed/housed/and loved. Therefore, for the safety of the birds and for people who would come in without our knowing and get hurt not knowing our birds or protocols, there is a locked fence.
Regarding their comments of a huge dump of materials; all they could see was a working area to the right of the sanctuary where there are extra cages, building materials, sand and mulch. We have been working hard making the parking area beautiful as money allows. The areas where the bird cages and aviaries are are quite tropical and lush with bamboo, banana trees, flowering plants etc. the videos ARE cleverly done in depicting our sanctuary and accurately depict the aviaries. Again, as donations allow we are constantly improving.
Birdpeople1 can read more than “some” favorable reviews. There are a multitude of 5 star ratings on many websites from people who have their birds there, sponsors, Fox News and volunteers who actually came through the gate, toured and interacted with the birds and wrote of their positive experiences, not making disparaging remarks from the gate on areas they haven’t seen.
So, that all being said, Yes we need bird sponsors and volunteers and hope you will open your heart and wallet to support these awesome creatures! Thank you, Natalie.
I went to Zagsee today to check it out for a new home for my baby. U can really see how much he loves all of the birds. My bird does not like strangers at all he picked her up and she gave him kisses rht away I was so shocked. If u can plz donate anything at all plz do to keep this place going plus if u know anybody that could help him build more homes for all of the birds that need a home his name is magic for a reason. Bcuz he is magic around the birds. Plz donate so he can make this place even a bigger place for all of the birds to feel home.
My daughter and I decided to volunteer at this place because we truly love all animals. We went there expecting something completely different and were amazed to find such an awesome, open and inviting paradise. This is truly a hidden gem, the birds are so beautiful, the owner is friendly and knowledgeable. He really loves the place and has amazing plans for its future. Please stop and see this awesome place for yourself. It is truly worth it!
My wife and I are experienced bird handlers in FL, including parrots. We went to the Zaksee site today to inquire about volunteer opportunities and potentially financial support. We arrived unannounced because we like to see how things are when no one is expected. We drove on a road with broken down trailer parks and druggie-types walking along the rode. We then drove on a horrendous dirt road where horse stables were and the first sign we saw was a PAPER sign tacked onto a post that said "birds" with an arrow. We turned and our car barely made it through the mud and ruts to the gate of the place. It was locked. One gate was barely attached and all we could see from the gate was a huge dump of old materials, refuse, cages scattered everywhere. It looked like a homeless encampment. We could not see the habitats but they were close, since we heard the birds clearly.
The videos shown on the website must be very cleverly done, because from what we saw, the grounds and the area around it were awful. We have no interest in the place and question how it presents itself. The "top rated nonprofit in America" statement is apparently based on one of many ratings websites in which some individuals have written favorable reviews. But, we found nothing supported the statement inferring "best in America". That is laughable. Lots of begging for money, though. Cannot or will not tell people what they should do. Our impression is that they are woefully underfunded and/or poorly managed.
First of all we always tell everyone that Zaksee is not a Zoo or Petshop that you think you can walk into. Second of all it is amazing if and when we get a review like this, has no name with it. the people that Can not even understand bird , call themselves Bird handler. Zaksee is the best and always been the best, they never saw thousands of bamboo and banana and tropical jungle, that is why we don't let this people to ever come to Zaksee. That is why we keep our gate locked at all times to keep sick people like this out of our property and away from our beautiful parrots. We love love our parrots way more and we don't want everyone with no name to come and see them or touch them. Zaksee is not open to public and we only let true volunteer and members to get in and not just anyone. Thank you
Zaksee Bird Sanctuary truly embodies a sanctuary, in every sense of the word! The founder, Magic (Majid), has devoted himself to his lifelong passion: creating a safe haven for captive exotic birds having arrived at their forever home. Cockatoos, macaws, conures, and parrots, to name a few, are sheltered and nourished in a hidden oasis right in the heart of Tampa. There, love and wisdom are evident, tangible, and reciprocated which makes for an unforgettable experience! Sustaining such a refuge with safe and enriching accommodations can be a daunting task; therefore, community outreach and awareness are necessary to ensure the survival of an exemplary avian organization.
Zaksee's is an amazing bird sanctuary. The owner, Magic, truly cares about each and every one of the birds. Every cage is handmade and are kept clean. All of the birds are happy and healthy.
Zaksee bird sanctuary is an amazing place. Magic, the owner, takes wonderful care of all of his birds. This place is awesome to volunteer at.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit today. Magic serves the community in a unique way, taking care of hundreds of birds that have been abandoned or have set residence by their owners. Thanks for the tour and all you do for these beautiful birds.
This sanctuary has a lot of potential. The man that runs the place is very dedicated and loves each and everyone of these birds. I went in to talk about the potential of doing an internship with him during the fall, he was very open to discussion and finding out what would be beneficial for me. He showed me around and taught me how to feed and water the birds safely since some of the birds are still in a learning process. I would definitely recommend volunteering and taking the time to help this place prosper.
Zaksee's Sanctuary is nothing short of amazing. the way Magic cares for these animals and their love for him is unlike anything I've ever seen. His name is more than appropriate because he has a magic tough with animals. when my family fell on hard times and we could no longer properly care for our parrot he didn't hesitate to take her in. our parrot is not a very social bird, she doesn't allow anyone to handle her other than my wife and myself but magic was able to pick her up immediately gave her kisses and snuggles and she loved it! in the many years we've had her I've never seen her allow a stranger to handle her without trying bite but she acted as if magic was an old friend. words cannot explain how grateful we are to have found such an amazing place in Zaksee's Sanctuary and we are eternally grateful for Magic accepting her into his care. it was so hard to have to leave part of our family in a strange place and we truly expected to leave in tears but after spending some time with magic and seeing how he truly loves and cares for these wonderful creatures all our worries subsided and we left with relief in knowing our bird was left in the best hands possible. THANK YOU MAGIC!
