Mission: The union square bid serves members and creates a high quality visitor experience by managing and activating public spaces, attracting new investment and advocating for the district's future success.
Programs: Clean & safe services - the union square bid (usbid) proposes to enhance the experience of visitons to the area by providing clean and safe services. Cleaning services include - maintenance workers providing daily refuse pickup, sidewalk sweeping, pressure washing of all sidewalks, trash receptacle control, graffiti removal and illegal dumping abatement. Safe services include hiring of one sfpd officer for 10 hours daily and safety and hospital ambassadors to patrol the area and help visitors. The usbid also trains ambassadors in social services to direct those in need to city services and resources.
public realm improvements, marketing & events, advocacy public realm programs include improvements like landscaping, signage, lighting and activating public space. Advocacy includes promoting a clean, safe and vibrant district to assure a good experience for the visitors, residents and employees. Advocacy gives the district a single voice in matters that may effect the members. Marketing includes production of website and social media pages for visitors, residents and members, production of welcome kits and collateral for merchants and members, a map and guide of the district, special events and promotional campaigns to draw visitors to the area.
svcf grant - police patrols & security cameras - through grants from a donor advised fund of the silicon valley community foundation the usbid funded a "holiday safe shopper program" to provide additional police patrols to the district and other commercial corridors in the city during the 2016 holiday season. The grant also funded expansion of the security camera program of the usbid to help improve the safety of the area and fight crime. Additional sub-grants were made to other areas of the city to provide cameras in high crime areas.
other programs include: powell street promenade maintenance and landscaping, advocacy related projects, and maiden lane improvements/activation and winter walk expenses.
