the foundation's 2017 advocacy work focused on educating new members of congress and the administration on the need for a new approach to federal scientific research in the pancreatic cancer arena. Our communications materials were the cornerstone of our messaging and were used in dozens of meetings with policy leaders and their staffs. The foundation's advocacy work also included building a coalition of private sector allies and partners, including other patient advocacy groups.
our scientific research efforts focused on engaging doctors, researchers and leaders in the pancreatic cancer arena as well as other disease groups. We conducted extensive outreach to the research and biomedical community to grow support for our harpa (health advanced research project agency) initiative, a federal government agency that would use a public/private partnership model to drive innovation for medical breakthroughs. In developing harpa, we crafted specific scientific research project concepts, including a proposal for new imaging technology (mri) for early detection of pancreatic cancer.
