Mission: Iahd exists to provide services to individuals with developmentaldisabilities. The agency is committed to providing opportunities forself--actualization and growth regardless of the extent of thedisability. Our mission is to provide creative and responsive programsand services for the purpose of promoting optimal function and slowingregression. We are fully committed to ensuring that the individuals wesupport have opportunities to experience inclusion and integration inthe community in which they live, learn and work. We are also fullycommitted to providing supports to individuals and families to helpthem achieve a quality of life in a preferred environment that reflectstheir choices and preferences.
Programs: See schedule oresidential services: iahd provides residential services to individuals who have significant developmental disabilities. Iahd's residences provide supports to people, including nursing assistance, help with daily living skills, such as dressing and eating, and assistance to access recreational and other aspects of community life. Most residences provide 24 hour staffing, but staffing ratios are adjusted for those individuals who are more independent in their daily activities. Iahd has reponded to community needs by developing new houses, especially for teenagers with developmental disabilities. Iahd has attempted to create a dynamic flow through its residential system for individuals whose developing skills allow them to more actively participate in community life, as well as for those individuals whose aging and health needs require more care and oversight.
see schedule oday habilitation services: iahd provides day habilitation services to individuals with significant challenges in all areas of function, including cognition, communication, behavior and adaptive living skills. Iahd's day habilitation programs serve a large geographical area in the bronx and westchester. Trained professionals work with families, staff and friends to develop individual service plans for the individuals in the program, to determine what outcomes they want to achieve during their day habilitation program, and to establish the activities that will best assist them to achieve these outcomes. Individuals are given choices as to the activities they prefer to participate in, such as art, music, fitness and computer usage, and while they participate in these activities, they receive training in many skill areas. Involvement in community life is an essential part of the day habilitation program, and individuals receive training in how to participate in community activities in an appropriate manner.
see schedule oprevocational work readiness services: iahd provides prevocational services to individuals with significant challenges in all areas of function, including cognition, communication, behavior and adaptive living skills. Trained professionals work with families, staff and friends to develop individual service plans for the individuals in the program, to determine what kind of work the individual could preform. The staff works with the individual to train them in their selected field. They work on traveling skills, working with other employee and customers.
