Causes: Developmentally Disabled Centers, Disabilities, Human Services
Mission: Through individual/family and systems advocacy and community collaboration, we assist persons with developmental disabilities to access needed services/supports, participate in community life, and learn to advocate and achieve greater self-sufficiency. We exist as an advocacy organization to make it possible for each person with a developmental disability to participate fully in all aspects of community and to support the efforts of each individual to determine his/her own future.
Programs: Advocacy: to promote the welfare and rights of persons with developmental disabilities in kalamazoo county by representing their interests using solutions based advocacy. This advocacy happens at various stages of life beginning with early education and through final life stages. The focus is preparing individuals and families to be self advocates and to ensure individuals with developmental disabilities are able to live in and be part of the community.
transition and lt planning: to provide advocacy services to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and their families by providing information, advice, teaching self-advocacy, and referral service to individuals. Participation in collaborative initiatives promoting inclusion and support for individuals with developmental disabilities, educational training to individuals and thier families, alternatives to guardianship, tools for self-directed life training, and after i'm gone future planning for families.
training: the arc community advocates provides training in a variety of areas including: getting the most from an iep, behavior support and alternatives to guardianship, and transitioning to the real world. All aimed at empowering individuals and families to live self directed lives. All services are free.
