2. Project best/high school equivalency (ged) instruction: tarrant literacy coalition provides high quality instruction to adults who lack a high school diploma, need to improve their english language skills, and those who want to learn to read or improve their reading skills. Free classes and/or individual tutoring is offered throughout the year at the white settlement family resource center, the atmos energy learner lab and agape baptist church, supervised by coalition staff and volunteers.
3. Literacy help line/outreach and advocacy: in 2016, more than 600 adults received information and referral services provided by coalition staff and volunteers. The tarrant literacy coalition helped them take the first steps toward enrolling in adult education classes to improve their english language skills, study for the texas certificate of high school equivalency, study for the us citizenship exam and improve their employment skills. Coalition staff and volunteers also serve as a voice to the community-at-large on issues related to adult and family literacy and the need for more and better services for low literate adults.
