HSNT is a great organization! I foster small kittens (typically bottle kittens). I was terrified of fostering bottle babies but HSNT foster team offered guidance and training to help me get started. They also have an emergency hotline for overnight emergencies and they provide all the supplies you need to care for your foster pet! Their staff is incredibly supportive and it is evident they pour love over the pets in their care.
I am a volunteer, foster, and adopter from HSNT. I am the community cat caretaker for my neighborhood. The HSNT clinic helped me with my colony on numerous occasions. So when one of litters that we were socializing and fostering through HSNT came down with ringworm, I knew it was my chance to repay all the help received. I’ve been volunteering in ringworm ever since. I love that HSNT has the best protocols for ringworm treatment and gives these cats (and rabbits, dogs, guinea pigs) the chance for life when not too long ago, ringworm meant death. HSNT supports my interests in the volunteer duties I want to perform. The foster team is super helpful, even if we flood their inbox with questions and pictures. The staff are amazing, friendly, well informed. This organization is vital to our community. I’m extremely grateful for their support and my ability to support them. Pics are my foster fail (Birdie), my dog that was adopted at an offsite HSNT event (Purdy), and my most recent foster (Gracie Lonestar).
HSNT is truly an incredible organization. The staff is compassionate, dedicated, and always willing to go the extra mile for pets in need. Their mission of Pets and People, Saving Each Other is more than just words—it’s something they live by every single day. I have adopted many dogs from HSNT, and they are my family. The love and care HSNT provides to every pet that comes through their doors is unmatched. I can’t say enough good things about this organization, and I’m so grateful for the lifesaving work they do for our community!
HSNT has been an incredible organization to partner with as a foster parent. From the moment I expressed interest, they've been supportive, organized, and truly dedicated to the well-being of their animals. The staff is knowledgeable and compassionate, always willing to answer my questions and provide guidance, whether it's about a specific animal's needs or general fostering best practices.
Seeing the transformation in the animals I've fostered, from shy and scared to confident and playful, has been incredibly rewarding. HSNT's dedication to rescuing and rehabilitating animals is evident in everything they do, and I'm proud to be a part of their mission. If you're looking for a fulfilling way to give back to your community and make a real difference in the lives of animals, I highly recommend fostering with HSNT. They are a truly exceptional organization, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside them.
I am a volunteer at HSNT. This organization does so many great things and the staff are amazing and truly care about the animals. There are so many opportunities to get involved from fostering, to socializing to daily cleaning. They even have care teams you can join for cruelty cases and help animals get rehabilitated for adoption. They also offer in depth training for volunteers and staff that is invaluable. I am so thankful to be involved in their movement to help fight for these animals to get a second chance at a wonderful life.
I am both a volunteer and a foster for HSNT. I have worked with them for almost 7 years, and after working with several other non-profits, I can attest that there are few who treat their volunteers as well as HSNT. I feel truly valued and that my opinions matter. I have fostered over 250 cats and kittens, and adopted 3 of those as my own! I'm so thankful to partner with this great organization.
I recently started fostering with HSNT. I can not say enough good things about my experience. The staff is absolutely wonderful! They have made the process so easy. They are always there if needed. Could not ask for better.
I started fostering with HSNT in 2022. We’ve hosted a total of 19 pets with them. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had and the staff is just amazing. They’re always there for advice, to listen to the funny stories, and comfort you when it gets a little hard. With HSNT, we’re able to give back and really make a difference in the lives of these animals and our community. This is also teaching my kids about giving back as well.
I’m a foster, volunteer, donor, and dog mom of an HSNT pup that was rescued from a cruelty situation! I have had nothing but 5-star experiences with HSNT. I have all the confidence in the world that they do the right thing for the animals and community as a whole. I feel confident that my donations are used the right way. I highly recommend getting involved with HSNT in some capacity!
I had an amazing experience adopting my cat from HSNT! The team was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and truly invested in finding the right match. They took the time to answer all my questions and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. My new feline friend settled in right away, and it’s clear she was well cared for before coming home. I’m so grateful to HSNT for helping me find the perfect companion. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt!
I've been a proud supporter of HSNT for years, and I am continually impressed by the incredible work they do. Their progressive approach, dedication to community needs, and unwavering commitment to the pets they serve make them truly stand out. HSNT doesn't just keep up with what's happening—they lead the way in compassionate care and advocacy. I can't recommend them highly enough!
I am beyond grateful for HSNT and everything they do for our community. I have been using their clinic for years and have never had anything less than an exceptional experience. Even after moving, I continue to drive 50 minutes—passing several other clinics along the way—just to receive their outstanding care. The kindness, professionalism, and compassion they show make every visit feel special. I wouldn’t trust anyone else!
They need all the recognition they go above and beyond
Highly recommended
the fwacc shelter that’s so racist and corrupt
This organization always exceeds my expectations when it comes to helping all animals. What I love most about HMSNT is that they don't euthanize any animal unless it's absolutely necessary. They continue to hold events to help all of their animals to get adopted and they are very caring to each and every animal. Their Mission is as follows which says it all: HSNT’s mission is to act as an advocate on behalf of all animals and to ensure their legal, moral and ethical consideration and protection; to provide for the well-being of animals who are abandoned, injured, neglected, mistreated or otherwise in need; to promote an appreciation of animals; and to instill respect for all living things.
We adopted our sweet Jade from here and the staff was so sweet and helpful, the facilities were very open and welcoming, more comfortable for the animals and great meet &greet rooms to get to know your potential pet better. Highly recommend this place and we are planning on coming back for another adoption soon!
We adopted our dog, Kupp, at HSNT in 2018. He was just a pup when we got him, but he has brought so much joy to our home! I enjoyed my experience so much with HSNT that I now foster kittens for them! Everyone I've worked with or spoken to at HSNT is incredibly friendly and helpful. They want the best for every animal that comes through that door.
My sister and I adopted our spunky little men from HSNT. Thanks to then we were able to keep these 3 little boys together. The process was easy and they got everything taken care of. They are amazing to help these animals find their forever homes. Thank you HSNT!!! Chandler, Joey and Ross thank you!!!!
I adopted my beautiful Delilah last year from Humane Society on east Lancaster she is a wonderful dog she was for one of her I got her so loving and the staff is so great and helping me with her they even had given us a bag of food and a collar to bring home with us they loved her up there as well they treated her very well while she stayed there for a month thank you so much
My daughter wanted to adopt a rabbit and her sisters convinced her to get a dog instead. I knew my husband would have to be convinced since we had already rescued a dog years ago. She prepared a Power Point presentation to convince him. He was so moved, he said yes. We adopted our Norwich Terrier, Peanut, 2 years ago. He looks like a bear cub and he loves his Bichon sister, Fluffy. My daughters are now volunteers here.
I adopted this 3 year old ginger at a Mega Adoption event a few months ago! He's a spunky sweetheart who gets along great with my other cat. I'm grateful for the work that HSNT is doing to home all the fur babies!
We adopted our sweet Aussie/Border Collie, Angel , from HSNT Keller 6 years ago. They were wonderful, and we would gladly adopt from this location again!!!!❤❤❤
We adopted our kitten when he was 2 months from here. We got him while at the MEGA Adoption Event in Fort Worth where the staff was super nice even though it was a busy day.
My husband and I went to adopt a kitten. We ended up going home with 2 cats after falling in love with one of the older ones as well. They are so good together and a blessing every day to our home. The staff made the adoption so easy and we're super friendly. Highly recommend them for anyone seeking a furbaby.
After the loss of our 16yr old canine when went to HSNT to find another pup for our family. We adopted Maple at 3 months old and she has filled our life with adventure! She loves to get muddy and run outside in the woods. When I come home she runs up to me and nuzzles her head in my side with warmest hug. Maple has brought a lot of laughter to our household!
I adopted my sweet 12 year old Chihuahua, Mia. I originally went for a different dog who was In the process of getting adopted, and they helped me look at other senior dogs and were very patient with my son and I. And now we have a perfect match for our family. They also offered her a sweet little pink collar I'm very grateful for them!!!!!
In the past 3 years we have adopted 3 times from HSNT, two dogs and a cat who seems to thinks she's a dog. With each experience the staff has been nothing but wonderful to our new furbabies and family too. We regularly go up there to play with the cats and the staff is always friendly, even when we aren't there to adopt. Adopt, don't shop!
The Humane Society of North Texas is just that, humane. When we adopted our puppies, we went to several shelters over the course of a few days. We were met with grumpy people (and sometimes not at all). Our very last stop of the day was The Humane Society of North Texas. My mood instantly changed upon entering. Although they were busy, we were personally greeted by every staff member we saw throughout our time there. We were able to look at ALL of the dogs. When we found a puppy we wanted to see more closely, we were assisted quickly even though the volunteer closest to us was clearly busy. We were so in love with the one we picked and the overall experience that we actually adopted two that day. I will always highly recommend the HSNT and we will return the next time we are looking to adopted a new four legged furry family member.
We adopted our kitty from here, the Keller location, and it’s the best thing we ever did! The people were so nice and the facility was very clean. They have so many wonderful cats, it was so hard to just pick one! I think we made a great choice with our Remy cat! Hopefully we can come back for a second one day!
I adopted my beautiful Hannah Elizabeth (Mystic) on September 7, 2018. She was timid and hiding but in her new home she came out of her shell and never looked back. She and her sisters Angel and Pearl use their IG account to bring awareness to rescue, fostering, and adoption. I'm so thankful to have found this purrfect new family member ❤️
We got our first dog from HSNT 4 years ago and the process was easy and above all we adopted the best dog ever!
Almost 2 years ago we went "just to look" and ended up with another dog. This time we got the oldest one with 1 eye.
We are always going to go to HSNT what they do for the animals is a blessing from above❤
My husband and I went to HSNT to find a puppy for our son, and almost as soon as we got there we came face to face with an actual angel! Little Molly was a perfect match for us. She was playful, yet gentle and our son was immediately obsessed with her! So, we adopted her on a Friday and were going to pick her up the following Monday after getting her fixed! We went to PetSmart and picked up everything she would need, a new kennel with an orthopedic mat, a shiny pink collar with a bow and matching leash, toys galore and everything. But due to a mix up in phone numbers or a case of bad handwriting we were unable to be reached. That Monday when I went to get her, I was pulled into a side room and told that Molly had contracted Parvo and had been euthanized. I was absolutely distraught. I ran to my truck to call my husband, tears rolling down my face and he barely understood me as I tried to explain the situation between sobs. What was I going to tell my son? A manger (who’s name I didn’t get because of my emotional state) came and tapped on my window and urged me to come back inside for a moment. Hesitant, I followed. He urged me to look at the puppies because they had got a new litter in. I took a look around and found Apollo, a tiny timid little puppy hiding in the corner of the kennel behind all his wild brothers and sisters. He pulled at my heartstrings before I even got him out to hold him. And boy was it love when I got that little puppy in my arms. The only problem, he cost a substantial amount more than Molly had and after a shopping spree at PetSmart I just couldn’t afford him. The same manager that I had talked to prior came back in, saw me with tears STILL flowing and told me I would be receiving Apollo for free. And cue more tears! Apollo is now a little over a year old and 127 pounds of pure love and personality. He’s not only a member of our family and beloved pet but he doubles as my husbands service dog, he’s a disabled veteran and has severe PTSD. Apollo always knows when he’s needed! He loves our son, protects our home and family and brings so much joy to all that meet him! He is truly a Godsend!
We adopted Lucy, then "Midnight", during an adoption event at the end of June. It was a large event, and there were a ton of people, but the volunteers and staff made it less hectic and crowded feeling by answering questions, processing adoptions as quickly as wifi would allow, and even surprisingly being able to offer tidbits of informtation about the dogs avaialable. When we asked about one dog, a volunteer let us know she wasn't ideal for kids (we have 5). It saved time and heart ache for her to tell me that. And then later when I sat down with our paper work, the gentleman helping me said "Oh good! Midnight found a home! She is the sweetest. I hope you have kids." And was able to fill me on some of her back story. It reaffirmed my decision that she was supposed to be our dog. It was just an overwhelmingly positive and happy experience. I highly recommend them for finding a friend.
After losing one of my elderly fur babies, I decided my other one needed another companion. I knew we would adopt, I kept my eyes open but nothing really seemed right. Then I saw her. I spent an hour getting that frightened puppy to come near me and I knew I could never leave her. When my older for baby passed on, we decided to get the baby a sister. Our goofball joined the family and we couldn’t be happier. Thanks HSNT for babies!
I adopted my beautiful Catahoula mix girl Stella 51/2 years ago. She is the light of my life. My experience at the Jan Reece Jones shelter in Dallas was great . Everyone was helpful and friendly.
When I convinced my husband to stand at the door of HSNT an hour before they opened one Sunday morning August 2018, we had no idea the fluffy bundle of joy we named Dixie would fill our hearts with so much love and laughter. She is such a blessing to our family, and our other two (Maya and Henry) love her so much. Thank you, HSNT, for saving this baby girl!!!!!
HSNT has been nothing but a positive experience. They take good care of their animals; I adopted one of my cats from HSNT and the other I got off the street. The latter cost me so much more stress and time and money to clear up a bad case of roundworm and fleas and more, and he has always been very skittish. HSNT gave us a wonderful, sweet-natured, very healthy kitty who is a joy. Adoption costs were so reasonable too! Same great story with my sweet puppy I adopted from HSNT. My life has been so much better thanks to the wonderful animals I found through HSNT! I definitely recommend!
After losing 2 senior dogs in 2018, our home had not been without a canine family member in over 30 years. The first time we saw Ava (formerly Molly) on HSNT's Facebook page, she was a sad sight, having been part of a cruelty seizure & almost starved to death. As soon as she was up for adoption, we submitted our application and, to our great joy, we were able to bring this girl home. She is the most affectionate pup, and her tail never stops wagging, that is unless she is napping, which is one of her most favorite things! We love her so very much, and she has once again, made our home complete. She will never again lack for anything. Thank you, HSNT for this special gift!
We adopted Libby last summer. She had been brought in to HSNT along with 25 other animals. She looked like an overgrown poodle with filth and fleas in her coat, but HSNT with help from Petsmart groomers cleaned her up and shaved her hair. We tested her dna and it turns out she is 100% puli (aka “mop dog”). She is so loving and affectionate and is enjoying living the spoiled life. We absolutely love her! We so appreciate what HSNT does to save the lives of amazing pets like Libby.
This is my baby Baxter AKA Brax. He came into our lives on June during the Mega adoption event. Ever since he came into our lives, there has been nothing but laughters, joy, and love. He is such a special kitten. The world is too small for him. He has an adventurous spirit and is constantly chasing something. We are more than blessed to have him in our lives. I’m so thankful to God for giving us him and having amazing individuals run the Humane society of North Texas, without you guys, we wouldn’t have our sweet angel. Thank you for all you do. You are changing the lives of so many pets and humans.
Had 3 rescues and a few years ago we had to send my big boy Boomer to the Rainbow Bridge. After some time had gone by and my Husband said that we could either adopt another pitbull or I could go pick out a really small dog. We went to the mega adoption event and I saw Hector. It was love at first sight! We have 3 in our pack again and just loving all of the entertainment they provide.
We adopted our puppy from the Keller center one year ago. She was such a sweet baby and full of life and her name was Dolly at the time.
Her spirit was so adventurous that we decided to rename her Bindi after Bindi Erwin.
Bindi makes us laugh, smile, get up and play and brings so much joy to our home we can’t imagine our home without her! We are the lucky ones to have found this beautiful little soul!!
We adopted our 2 guinea pigs from one of their big adoption events. Butter cup and Ginger have been an awesome addition to our family. After a few weeks of slowing letting them acclimate to our home they are now enjoying their brand new cages and daily bell peppers.
I had been searching up and down to find my perfect new best friend. I had met lots of dogs from this shelter and each location was a really big help and letting me take the time to get to know each dog. After adopting my baby Remmington my life has changed dramatically. Who knew that two months later I would be in the hospital getting diagnosed with PTSD and Autism. My doctors and therapist decided that maybe teaching Remmington to be a service dog would help with some of my issues. If it wasn’t for HSNT I am not sure I would have found my perfect forever buddy. Thank you all so much at HSNT!
(PS. He is still in training currently and passed his temperament test.)
In June I adopted my boy Jett at one of their Adoption events. BEST DECISION WVER! The process was so simple, The volunteers incredibly friendly, and Jett was very well taken care of surinfnhis timw with them! Thank you for helping me find my forever fire baby!
Adopted 2 cats at event in Ft Worth Will Rogers in July 2019. Great experience. Everyone was helpful and really cared about the babies and those looking to adopt. Jessie James and Virgil Earp are part of our family and rule. Thank you.
I adopted Layla, my pittie, 2 years ago at HSNT. One year later she wanted me to get her a brother. Loki, our kitty, then came into our lives. I love HSNT, they litterally gave me a family.
I met my beautiful Tigger cat at HSNT on August 19, 2017. We instantly connected and I knew he was coming home with me. Everyone there was so helpful and excited for us and our new adventure. Every day he waits for the sun to light up his favorite spot. Then it's nap time. Love this boy. Thanks HSNT.
I adopted my sweet Lily (formally Dot) from this wonderful place. She was brought in abused and full of fleas. They showed her a lot of love and has received TONS of that plus treats, toys etc!! I’m so glad that they were able to take her and in so I could get get her. Thank you! ❤️
I have a long history with HSNT, beginning in 1995 with my “Baby the Wonder Dog”. Thank you SO much for all you do and for bringing our best buddies into our lives.
Wow. I cannot say enough about HSNT in Keller. They facility is top notch & the employees are so helpful.
We adopted our dog from them in May of this year. The process was easy & flawless. Not to mention...our new fur baby is the best!!!
They have loyal volunteers which says a lot about the way they run their adoption facility.
If you are looking for a new fur baby....I highly recommend HSNT of Keller! They have new dogs come in so be patient & i am positive the right one will come along.
After the loss of our 13 year old fur-baby we were very hesitant to adopt again for the fear of another heartbreak. I saw Sunshine (Sunny) on the Keller HSNT site and new she was the dog for us. My sister and I drove there and immediately I adopted Sunshine. She is the most loving, sweet and gentle 1 year old golden/aussie. We have had her a month now and I'm so glad she is part of our lives.
I volunteer at both the Forte Saxe location and Keller and love helping!
I made a deal with my parents at the beginning of my freshman year that if I got all A's for the school year that I could get a new dog. I successfully did just that, but I was very careful and specific about what I wanted in my new dog. They were going to be small to medium sized, not loud, and be able to get along with my other dog, only 2-4 years old and be a girl. Because I had these "requirements" for my future dog it made searching for one harder. Then one day in the summer I went with my mom and sister just to look for a little bit. We weren't expecting to get a dog that day. Then we saw Ranger (now Charleston). He looked just like my dog I had as a toddler. He was perfect even though he only met 2 of my "requirements". The staff were so sweet through the adoption process and were so happy for my family and my new dog. Its been about 2 years now and Charleston is the best dog I could ever ask for. I enjoyed meeting so many dogs over that summer so I became a frequent volunteer for HSNT Keller Regional and try to go 3 times a week in the summer and at least twice a month when school starts.
I always thought I wanted to get a dog through a breeder until I ran across the Keller HSNT FB webpage. I started following it and knew I wanted to adopt at some point. We put our 16.5 old dog down a year ago, so we haven't been ready. Until one day, I ran into a friend who also follows this site and she said did you see the adorable litter that was just posted. She showed me and I fell in love with the sweet tan puppy and had to go see her. I prayed she would still be there knowing puppies get swept up quick. I walked in and she was there!!! I loved on her then had to leave her to grab my kids from school. I wanted them to meet her before I adopted her. We prayed she would still be there when we went back and she was there!!! It was meant to be! It was a sign! We adopted her almost 4 weeks ago and she has been such a joy for our family. We named her Lola and she is the sweetest! She has adjusted well, sleeping through the night since day one, potty training great and has the best personality. Without Keller HSNT we wouldn't have our sweet Lola! They were amazing to work with. The process was simple! They love these dogs and take such great care of them. I highly recommend adopting a dog or whatever animal is in your heart!
We recently adopted our tripod kitty, Abby (then Tiffany), and couldn’t have had a better experience! The adoption process was super easy, and I’m so glad they partner with Petsmart and local vets to help us transition her to our home. She is doing great and we absolutely love her!!
We adopted “Allen” from HSNT three days ago. We can already tell he is going to rock our world! He is full of energy, life and love. Allen is the third adoption for our family.
Our first adoption, “Kate”, was with our family for almost 16 years. So many wonderful memories. She traveled everywhere with our family in our motorhome and will always be remembered for her gentle, sweet nature. We still miss her everyday.
Our second adoption, “Adele”, was an older rescue with many health issues. She had the funniest personality. We learned many lessons from Adele - the importance of freedom and friendships. She was only with us for two short years but she will forever be in our hearts.
We are looking forward to making new memories with crazy boy “Allen”. There are so many beautiful, wonderful souls that need forever homes. Adoption is the only way to go! Very thankful to the Humane Society of North Texas for providing a home for these animals until they can find their families.
I adopted a cat from the Humane Society through PetSmart and he is one of the best cats I’ve ever heard
Our family lost our beloved dog early in January 2018, and we were unsure if we could ever love another animal like we loved Nala. After a few months, we decided we were ready to find our new friend, so we went to the Humane Society of North Texas. We saw many dogs, but there was something special about Brodie that drew us to him. We knew he was the family member we had been missing! Brodie is such a loving and sweet boy, and we are so blessed to have found him. HSNT helped us every step of our journey and provided all the support and information we needed to adopt our miracle boy. Thank you, HSNT for everything you do!
We adopted our Griffonshire, Cosmo, 8 years ago from the Humane Society of North Texas. At 10 years old, we still love him more every day.
My husband and I heard about the Humane Society a few years ago, and from that moment we knew we would one day adopt a dog from this non-profit. We had always known we wanted to adopt, but we also wanted to make sure we were adopting from a trustworthy organization which treats animals with love and respect--and we finally found it. Fast forward to 2019. My husband and I moved into the suburbs, knowing this was the final step before adopting a dog. By that time, we had read everything on HSNT's website, and we looked at their "adopt a dog" page regularly and waited patiently for what we believed would be our dog. We were impressed by how fast the dogs were disappearing from the website--we knew they had found their forever homes, and the staff would quickly update their website, which was very helpful. When we saw Snowflake (now Snowy), we knew he was ours. As we drove down to the HSNT shelter, we called them every 20min during the drive to make sure he was still available. They were so patient and kind in this process! Once we got there, we loved it how the shelter was clean and the dogs were well-kept and looked healthy. Within an hour we were driving back home, but this time with our 3-year-old Maltese. The adoption process was quick and easy, and the staff was incredibly kind. Now, we are absolutely in love with our cute little rescue dog who makes our lives so much brighter, and we relate with the phrase, "who rescued whom?"
All in all, adopting from HSNT was a great decision. It made adoption so much less stressful than we thought it would be. We hope to adopt another dog from there in the next few years! Thank you, HSNT!
My cat of 18+ years passed away in early March and I was left with a broken and empty heart. I decided another cat would be the only way to fill my empty heart and thanks to HSNT I was able to find a wonderful cat that brings joy to my life every day! I’m so thankful for the hard work that they do every day to find furever homes for wonderful animals in need !
I wouldn’t want to volunteer anywhere else! The staff are amazing and the animals are well cared for. Definitely my favorite non-profit organization!! :)
Almost two years ago we came in looking for another guinea pig to add to our family. The had Duke {formerly known as Shawn} who had been surrendered recently. The whole process was super smooth and easy. He has made the best addition to our home and we couldn’t be more thankful for HSNT and all they do to help animals!
We adopted our sweet Honey from a HSNT Petsmart event several months ago. The process was smooth and I have been so grateful for the resources they provide. We’ve gotten her follow up vaccinations at the low cost clinic and gotten a great deal on heart worm meds. She has brought so much joy to our lives. We are happy we found her!
Adopted every dog I've had except one at HSNT for the last 25 years and I love HSNT people - they really care. My Missy was adopted there at the Lancaster location 15 years ago, she is 19 years old now and still going strong. Thank you Humane Society of Texas!
This is a story I'll never tire of telling. We attended the free adoption weekend in January of 2018, fully not intending to leaving with a new pet. Here we are, almost two years later, completely and totally in love with our Bailey Grace. She's enriched our lives and is such a vital part of our family. Each day when we walk in the door from a hard days work, she's greeting us at the front door like it's the best day of her life. We didn't know we needed her, and now we can't imagine life without her.
I adopted both of my pups through the humane society of north Texas. The process to get the dogs were easy and they made sure the dogs were going to a good home. They even provided a bag of food, one free vet visit and one month of pet insurance. They are amazing for the animals in our community!
HSNT has dedicated employees and staff who work hard every day to help adoptable animals find forever homes. As a new foster parent for a litter of kittens, I see how supportive the staff is saving every precious animal life. HSNT provides many times of services at low-cost for the betterment of the animals in the community.
Previous Stories
I first served as a volunteer, and after several years walking dogs and working at off-site adoption sites, I became a board member. This organization is not without its faults, but most of those faults stem from too much work to do and not enough resources to do it..a failing of many non-profits. The people here care so much about the animals whom they aim to protect. The group is called out time and again when other agencies say no because of lack of resources. The Humane Society of North Texas does an amazing amount work with limited resources, and the people and staff that support HSNT are the reason HSNT is able to do so much with so little. It is grueling work with very little downtime. HSNT remains dedicated to their open door policy when other shelters have gone to a reservation-only system, leaving many animals stranded and on the streets. HSNT will continue to work tirelessly to find good homes for animals and to treat all animals with dignity and respect.
I am writing to say I believe in the "Rainbow Bridge". I would never put an animal in a shelter, to sit there for days months years. I believe in having them 'fixed' and letting them live out their life as an animal. If fortunate enough - a loving family. In a shelter they sit in the small cage and age, no longer a kitten - did not get to experience the touching grass for the first time, trees-yes they are fun to climb. I feel this is such a crime that the animal that did not commit a crime, like criminals that sit behind bars - who committed a crime. These "cats", which I am supporting or any other animal, do not need to be put behind bars just because some uneducated, no feelings toward animal kind, non passionate person who thought they wanted a pet and could not handle the responsibility and let them outside to make it on their own. I believe that anyone who wants a pet should have to undergo an intense training how to take care of the pet, pass a test, be monitored for 2 years. Seems like those who can barely afford to take care of themselves wants a pet. Then the pet is without water, food, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. No love or attention. The Rainbow Bridge is such a powerful place for animals - they have no pain, they become young again, no memory of the torture YOU gave them. They find peace and if you were a loving care taker, when you pass they will find you and you will unite once again as your love is strong.
How many animals make it out of this shelter alive? Most are killed. This is a high kill shelter with a fundraising machine. We have the power to build a new consensus, which rejects killing as a method for achieving results. And we can look forward to a time when the wholesale slaughter of animals in shelters is viewed as a cruel aberration of the past. We have a choice. We can fully, completely, and without reservation embrace No Kill as our future. Or we can continue to legitimize the two-pronged strategy of failure: adopt a few and kill the rest. It is a choice which history has thrown upon us. We are the generation that questioned the killing. We are the generation that has discovered how to stop it. Will we be the generation that does?
"Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. We can be that great generation."
I don't know how HSNT could be any better. I adopted my Ranger from them two years ago when I was heartbroken over the loss of my Jack rescue dog. This organization and the people and volunteers who work there are exemplary. They truly care about the animals, and they make the best use of every donation. Simply put: THEY ARE THE BEST!
I adopted my lab / american staffordshire terrier mix from HSNT when he was 8 weeks old. My sister fostered all four of the puppies in his liter, and the day she returned them, I decided to adopt Chuy. The other three puppies in his liter were adopted within a few days and I'm so glad! HSNT did an amazing job of keeping the puppies healthy while they were in the shelter. They offered to get him neutered before I picked him up and his recovery was excellent! Chuy has been such a great addition to the family and I will definitely head to HSNT when I decide to adopt another pet!
We adopted our wonderful Akita mix from this shelter, and I will be forever grateful to them for giving her a second chance. They were so very accomodating to us in helping us select her, and even let our other dog meet her before we took her home to ensure they got along well. HSNT does fabulous work for our community, and has impacted so many lives, both human and four-legged. Highly recommend visting one of their adoption centers if you're looking for a new addition!
The tenacity of HSNT personnel and volunteers to make a positive impact on EVERY animal that comes through their doors never ceases to amaze me. I am honored to be a part of the family of critter crusaders for the past 7 years and will continue to support them in their quest to make life better for animals who come into their care. HSNT is the ONLY open door shelter in N Tx-no animal dealt a bad hand by man'kind' is turned away.
My sister told me about the Extreme Mutt Makeover which I followed this year; each dog has his own webpage! Through HSNT and EMM I received my loving, friendly, wonderful dog Emmit--I highly commend his youth trainer Ashley. He has the most beautiful personality and fits right into our family. I can't imagine him languishing without a home. I wish all "unwanted" pets could find their forever home. Thank you so much to everyone involved!
HSNT is a miracle with its feet on the ground. It makes do with the least and does the best. It deserves widespread support for its efforts. Please consider a donation, especially to the Waggin' Tails center to open in 2013 in Benbrook, Texas. The new site literally needs money and in-kind contributions of all kinds. Thank you.--Steve Munday, Fort Worth, Texas
Our family has been blessed to both foster animals for and adopt animals through the Humane Society of North Texas. In all of our experiences with them, HSNT staff members have consistently demonstrated a common mission of compassion towards animals and a commitment to excellence. Of all the animal welfare organizations in Texas, I would recommend HSNT over any other, hands down!
The three years my family has been participating in the Extreme Mutt Makeover have been the most rewarding volunteer efforts we've experienced. My daughter participated the first two years and my granddaughters participated this year. The Humane Society of North Texas pulls dogs from shelters that they feel deserve a second chance and applicants are chosen to train the dogs from 6-9 weeks and then they return to complete in the EMM with the goal of finding these sweet dogs forever homes. The dogs my family have trained have found the most wonderful homes that they would never have had an opportunity to be exposed to. It takes a lot of effort and money to put the event together and the team from HSNT does a wonderful job, especially this year, 2012, when they lost their biggest sponsor. They didn't let that deter them from carrying on this wonderful event and we all hope they can continue and grow bigger and better.
I brought a little kitten that had been living in my backyard to the shelter. The folks were so lovely and helpful. I hope the little one finds a home. If you're looking for a pet, I can't reccomend this shelter highly enough.
HSNT is known for doing the most with the least. My wife has been dedicated to HSNT for more than 20 years! Through her affiliation with HSNT she has filled our hearts and our home with some amazing animals! Currently we are blessed with 4 dogs and a cat and are often found debating with them - who rescued who! They fill our lives with much joy and love and we try to do the same for them. I have assisted HSNT as a vounteer in many ways. One of my proudest acheivements was when I assisted with the seizure of almost 500 dogs from a filth filled puppy mill. From this rescue our family was blessed with a silly, goofy, laughable, and extremely lovable bassett named Puzzyle. When I watch her clumsy gallops across our hardwoods stopping just in time to make the leap to the couch I can't help but wonder what her life would have been if HSNT had not gotten to her in time! When she looks at me I can feel her thanks and I am so proud to have been a part of changing her life!
This organisation really deserves a lot of credit for taking care of all the animals that people sometimes treat as toys. Just visit their location and see how easy folks just drop of their pets when is it not convenient to them anymore. These poor pets are taken in by the humane society and given shelter for as long as they can and hope someone will come by to adopt it again. They spay and neuter all incoming animals and provide them with all medical care they need to be adoptable again. This organisation can really use your donations just to be able to continue providing this service in Tarrant count, in addition you can really help them by adopting a pet and take care of it. If you want a dog or cat go get it there, they have many good animals to choose from.
