Mission: At present, one of the most disturbing cultural events of our time is the ever growing pandering to the lowest common denominator, instead of striving for the highest attainable goal?and beyond. Within this culture, there is a growing acceptance of intellectual apathy and the support and encouragement of creative mediocrity. We seem to be evolving into a culture based on affectation. Celebrity; fame for fame's sake; compensation and attention paid without merit; where Art takes a back seat to some celebrity's marriage woes or Paris Hilton's . . . well, anything.With each production, STREETLIGHT has endeavored to present characters and their stories that regardless of the challenges they face, the hardships in their lives, the daily disappointments and heartaches that they experience, always struggle to find within themselves the courage to get back up on their feet for the ninth time after being knocked down eight.As Teddy Roosevelt so aptly put it, "The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming. But who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause; who at best knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat."This is what STREETLIGHT believes. The purpose of STREETLIGHT is to shed a light in the dark corners, offer some hope, an idea, a path, a light at the end of the tunnel.STREETLIGHT PRODUCTIONS, INC. is dedicated to the firm belief that the human spirit can only be fully realized and sustained by exposure to and enrichment by the arts. To support this belief we are committed to creating a vital and nurturing environment in which to provide for the education and development of theatrical and cinematic artists and to offer the products of these efforts as an artistic resource to the public community for the enrichment of all our lives and raising of the social, cultural and historical consciousness of both artists and audiences.
