I participated in the Sustainability in the Art Studio summer course and appreciated the breadth of information and the opportunity to collaborate and share with other professional educators interested in teaching for sustainability.

This course has changed my thinking and bolstered my art process and allowed for a growth mindset that has me on fire to create. From the detailed and thoughtful presentation of sustainability as a concept to the personal time we were given to create our own art from basic sustainable practices this course gives a wonderful platform in which to learn and to deep dive. There is a great balance of presentation, group discussion and assignment to explore on your own. I have benefited greatly from further exploration with natural dyes and applying that knowledge to my own art which then led me to create a new sustainable course for my students. I feel well prepared to keep pushing my own art and have made connections with other educators in the course who I will continue to be in touch with in the future.

It has been an inspiring gift to learn from the Center for Arts Education and Sustainability. It provided me with the tools that I was looking for in regard to adding sustainable art practices to my artwork. I now look at the natural world around me differently and can identify what plants and stones will provide me with natural pigments or as an art making material. When I have a question I know I can reach out and receive sound advice from the CAES community and I love how CAES is committed to sharing these sustainable art practices with the youth around the world. I couldn’t recommend this organization more for learning about sustainable art practices. Even in an online format, a sense of community is created and lots of learning takes place from hands on practice.

CAES worked with our organization, Campos de Gutiérrez in Medellín, Colombia to encourage engagement with the local community. The participants developed paper-making and other skills with natural materials in a series of workshops tailored for our rural district. It was a very memorable experience and hope we can continue working in the future somehow.

CAES is an amazing organization that helps promote and educate on sustainable practices in the arts. I have had the pleasure to assist CAES’ team since 2018 in different contractual matters. Every member of the team are dedicated and passionate about the mission of the institution and the immense contribution to artist, educators and communities as a whole. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to be part of an institution that is always looking for new projects to expand their mission around the globe.

I had a wonderful experience participating in the "Sustainability & the Art Studio" course offered through CAES. The class was broken up into 4-5 modules that moved through support, experimentation, and sharing. We were first introduced to ideas and concepts around sustainability (both within and outside the arts), then we were provided with an extensive (but organized) library of resources to pull from in our own projects. Ivan was very supportive and offered to meet one-on-one outside the class to discuss anything. Finally we shared all of our projects which was one the of the best parts because we all learned from each-other's experiments. The class was mostly made of teaching artists, so we were able to support each-other in fantastic ways and look forward to continuing to share our work with each-other.

The Center for Art Education and Sustainability provided me with generous and inspiring resources and ideas for sustainable arts practices. The course I participated in gave me a new confidence to explore and put into place sustainable arts practices in my teaching and in my own art making. Most importantly, CAES provides a platform for artists and educators working towards sustainability to connect and build community.

I have been a board member of CAES since 2018 and have known Ivan, its founder, for over twenty years. Ivan's expertise and passion for art and sustainability is second to none. I am pleased to have been a part of CAES's history and looking forward to continuing to be a part of its journey.

During 2015 Daniel Ivan Asin carried out his residency program; Who can live in this house? in Buenos Aires, argenitna. Iván invited Zona to join CAES and develop some workshops. Free workshops were held open to the Community of Villa Jardín on Alternative Materials, natural paintings, development, handmade paper with plants from our garden and plant materials from the neighborhood. A screen printing of the CAES logo was also made in collaboration with the girls from the ZI Screen Printing workshop.
The artist, the children, the family and also the greengrocer participated in this experience, a real exchange with the neighborhood through art.
