Mission: Chartered as an educational institution by new york state in 1957, the society provides education, fundraising, special events, public relations, marketing and new-exhibit design support to monroe county's seneca park zoo. Over the past 20 years, the seneca park zoo society has raised money for, and helped design & build more than $14 million in capital improvements to the zoo.
Programs: Education and conservation - onsite programs include interpretation programs, camps, classes, tours, overnight programs and birthday parties. In 2017, more than 73,000 children of all ages were served by programs including field trips, expeditions, butterfly beltway programs, zoomobile visits and more. Volunteer programs included docents, zooteens and interns - volunteering the equivalent of more than 16 full time staff members. Regional conservation work with the one cubic foot project on the genesee river continued. The butterfly beltway project planted over 93 acres of pollinator habitat for monarch butterflies. Appearances on wxxi's homework hotline reached an additional 1. 5 million school age children across new york state.
admissions and member services - provides fun and engaging guest experiences while visiting the zoo. In 2017, over 13,000 member families enjoyed year round admission, subscription to the quarterly newsletter and discounts on food, gift and educational services. Guests and members helped raise money for education programs and in situ penguin, polar bear, lion and orangutan conservation.
zoo gift shop - offered zoo-related merchandise to our 340,000 guests in 2017. The money raised helps support animal acquisitions, exhibit interpretive signage and education programming at the zoo, as well as the conservation of snow leopards in their natural range. Zoo food service - provides visitor services by providing quality food and beverages to guests in two zoo locations. Other services include facility rentals, catered parties and fundraising happy hours.
