Mission: Reclaim new york educates new yorkers on issues like affordability, government reform, and education. Through civic education we empower citizens to reclaim ownership in their government.
Programs: In 2016 reclaim new york conducted citizen trainings in regions across new york. Through the work of the new york affordability project, more than 2,000 gained a deeper understanding of the roots of new york's affordability crisis. By identifying the cost of government, citzens were encouraged to analyze the value received on a more personal level than previously possible. The project highlighted both local and state level affordability issues that directly impact a citizen's ability to be finacially stable. Collectively, the project continues to empower a more informed and engaged citzenry. The new york transparency project counted important achievements and growth in 2016. The project created a platform for transparency for all new yorkers that facilitates citizen-driven oversight. The project established new partnerships, grew its civic education efforts and successfully protected the freedom of information law against government entities who didn't observe the law. Most importantly, reclaim helped citizens engage government officials in a productive manner, to ensure that public documents, were just that, public.
