Mission: Portland baroque orchestra (pbo) is the fourth oldest and among the five largest professional period orchestras in the nation, with the primary activity of presenting world-class performances of music composed before 1840 on period instruments. Pbo annually reaches 13,000 to 18,000 people with multiple performances of seven full productions, plus young people's concerts and free education and outreach programs.
Programs: Concert programs: in its 2016/17 season, pbo presented public performances of classical music by exclusively professional (paid) musicians in fulfillment of the organization's stated mission. These consisted of five subscription concert programs, performed three times each, and other music programs throughout the region. Over 10,000 individuals in the greater portland sw washington region were served, plus an additional 1,200 in other communities and states. Revenues reported were in the form of ticket sales and fee-for-service contracts. Expenses are primarily artistic personnel, transportation, facility rental, and other materials, supplies and supporting personnel costs associated with the production of these programs.
marketing campaigns: the organization undertakes extensive marketing campaigns, utilizing a broad range of platforms (e. G. Print media, direct mail, radio broadcast, social media, e-mail marketing, etc. ) to share information about pbo's program offerings and educate the community about its mission. Expenses include printing and mailing expense, advertising/media purchases, electronic distribution costs and marketing personnel expense.
education/outreach programs: in its 2016/17 season the organization served approximately 1,500 with free and low-cost education and outreach programs. These included a dedicated young people's concert featuring a full orchestra performing and presenting with education content, open rehearsal for groups, and in-school performance-demonstration presentations. Expenses were primarily for artistic personnel.
