Mission: Omni nano is a public benefit organization devoted to stem education, specifically nanotechnology education (stem = science, technology, engineering, math). Omni nano's mission is to inspire our today's youth to become tomorrow's scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs of nanotechnology, who will ultimately make significant contributions to the continued success and prosperity of the united states. We are determined to inspire the next generation of americas stem workforce by developing, producing, and distributing educational material for nanotechnology courses. We believe that by learning nanotechnology as early as high school, our students will be better prepared for their professional careers in the globalized, high-tech economy of the 21st century. We envision future generations of american students who are educated in and passionate about nanotechnology. As such, we are committed to making an excellent nanotechnology education available to every high school student nationwide, w
Programs: Overview: the nanotechnology curricula project is developing comprehensive nanotechnology curricula for students at the high school and college level. This project brings educational materials for both students and teachers into the classroom as well as online learning environments including innovative and interactive textbooks, labs and projects, and online learning tools. Our student-centered, hands-on curricula are designed to inspire college and college-bound students toward considering a stem major and a stem professional career. Progress: omni nano remains heavily reliant on volunteers and independent consultants, but we have made great strides on our curricula this year. The first iteration of our first semster of content has been fully produced to be aligned to the common core and next generation science standards (ngss), including all assignments, with the exception of some original scientific images. . .
overview: through the discover nanotechnology project, we offer 1-day workshops in nanotechnology to high school science classes, youth conferences, and after school programs. We aim to inspire high school students to become the future scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs of nanotechnology, who will ultimately make significant contributions to the continued success and prosperity of the united states. Workshops focus on practical applications of nanotechnology, and engage students with new technologies explained using general stem concepts such as chemistry, physics, and biology. Impact: by the end of 2017, omni nano hosted 193 workshops in high schools across the greater los angeles area, addressing over 6,850 students. . .
overview: the bridges to nanotechnology project brings nanotechnology directly into high school and college classrooms. This progressive course is designed to inspire students toward considering a stem major and professional career. Curricular objectives are designed to increase student responsibility and accountability through hands-on lab activities. Learners are engaged in knowledge creation using a dynamic teaching approach focused on professional development. Impact: omni nano focused on offering course at the community college and university level during 2016-17, after having introduced our courses to secondary educational institutions in 2013-2015. We were invited back by the university of california, los angeles (ucla) to teach anolther "introduction to nanotechnology" course, which we also taught at west los angeles community college (wlac). .
