What better way to help children grow than to get them into a garden? And truth be told, I grew a bit by going to the garden too! I was a die hard volunteer for Allies this year because I just wanted to keep coming back to that garden! The garden is a brightly colored oasis off of Inglewood Blvd., with bush sunflowers, and poppies, pea flowers, squash blossoms and giant corn stalks. Every time you visit, there is something new in bloom, and something new to eat right off of the plant! There are trees with fruit on them, and butterflies landing everywhere. Not only is it beautiful, there is soul there. The families who come to tend the garden act like they own it, and that tells me there is love there. Jasmine, who runs the garden has flowers in her eyes and is always planning a new upgrade. There is never a dull garden moment, it's absolutely abuzz. At the garden I found a renewed connection to my fellow human, as well as to the earth we stand on. I helped to grow many things during my volunteering, one of which was my very own heart. THANK YOU ALLIES FOR ALL YOU DO. (please notice the butterfly on the flower in my picture upload)
I been bringing my 2 youngest to the center and im loving this center the teachers are really good with the kids and so patient my 2 love their teachers.
this is the best school ever. I have nothing but good things to say about this school. It's been so helpful and offers alot of activities for the whole family. The teacher sare great and really care about your whole family.
Since we've been here we've had nothing but great things happen for our children. The staff are truly amazing and helpful.
i attended this program when i was a child, but the teachers are to the best when paying attention to children
I had my daughter here for three years and all I have is nothing but great things to say about them. The program goes beyond there way to help and show they care. I honesltywish they had more programs like this throghout the los angeles area. I love it so much I had to enroll my niece in here. I knew this was the most safest place she can ever in.
Allies is a wonderful organization that helps so many people. I was very sad to miss their annual arts festival this year as that is always one of my favorite events!
Volunteered with Allies for Every Child's annual arts festival. The staff was very friendly and organized, and you could tell the event was being run rather smoothly. At the registration booth, there were no apparent fires or panic, making volunteering rather easy and fun.
Wonderful event for the families! We appreciate the opportunity to volunteer and loved seeing all of the happy children!
Love this agency’s work — Arts Festival is always a favorite every year.

I have volunteered for WCC in connection with Big Hearts and Arts Festival. I've been impressed with the professionalism of the staff, particularly the event organizers. At Arts Festival, in particular, they go above and beyond to reach out to and involve the community.
My son and I volunteered as visiting artists during a recent festival (I was demonstrating clay sculpture, and he was demonstrating origami). It was my first time working with the Westside Children's Center, and I was deeply impressed. The festival was well-organized and mission-driven in service to children and families. The space is already very beautifully rich with artwork, and the additional artwork and activities made specifically for the festival were vibrant and engaging. With crafts, games, food, live music and performances, and many community services available to attendees, I was proud to be a part of this wonderful event. I look forward to future involvement!
I've volunteered with Westside Children's Center a few times and their programming, staff, and mission make it worth every second. WCC has such an expansive reach in the community that it's a little overwhelming to think about how many lives they've touched, even secondhand. I'm truly grateful for the work they do; our whole community is better for it.
I volunteered for the first time at the children’s festival this year and it was a wonderful experience. I helped lead an art activity and got to see so many other cool activities they had for the kids like painting, caricatures, and face painting. The performances were great and I am so excited that I wa referred to this charity to volunteer.
Really nice and hardworking staff and other volunteers who care a lot about children’s well being. Their pre-school is very beautiful too.
I have volunteered for events including the arts festival. I was very happy to be involved in an event that was so well received by the local community.
I hope to continue to be in involved and donate with this wonderful non profit organization.
Westside Children’s Center is an impressive organization that positively impacts families in the LA area. I have volunteered/attended Westside’s Arts Festival the past few years. It is an amazing event full of fun, food, information, and services for the community.
This is a great organization to work with! Had an amazing time volunteering and will join again next year. Staff was friendly and my overall experience was excellent.
Westside children's center is an incredible organization that is truly changing the lives of children and families.
This is a wonderful organization! I was lucky enough to volunteer at their children's festival this year and it was so much fun. They put on a beautiful event and there were so many smiling faces. I hope to be able to volunteer there again soon.
Westside Children’s Center is a wonderful nonprofit and an integral piece of our community. Volunteering there has allowed me the priceless opportunity to watch young children develop with each other, learning the foundations for respect, creativity, problem solving, and teamwork.
Me encanta estoy muy feliz con el centro al saber que mi hijo esta en muy buenas manos cuando yo trabajo
im really happy ,all the people are so nice,im glad my little boy is here, he loves to come every day....im blessed
We began our journey with WCC in 2012 when my daughter Aylin attended the center, we were always very pleased with how she was treated and how involved they encourage the parents to be. My wife and I volunteered as much as possible. Now that my son Sebastian attends the center we have had nothing but great experiences, the one and only concern my wife and I have had is that the Director has not made herself available to all parents and we still have yet to know what she looks like. Otherwise we are so happy to have our son enrolled and will continue to try and volunteer when we have the time.
Westside Children's Center in Culver City is an amazing early education center. All the staff members all always willing to help. The way that the program is set up gives every child that come through here an advantage, the children get to learn an array of things, they are able to get ready to go to school. They are very hands on with the kids. Once you have been with Westside Children's Center you will be glad you have become a part of this program.
We are foster parents to 3 beautiful boys. Our story began when I wanted to become a volunteer at Westside. here is were I found out more information about foster care. A couple months later my partner and I found ourselves in an orientation meeting starting our process to foster/adopt.
My son Matthew recently graduated fro,m Westside Children Center and loved it! Now my younger son Max is attending Monday - Friday. They both always looked forward to waking up for "school". All teachers and staff are so loving and caring so I can see why. The campus and classrooms are always very clean and we never had any issues with other classmates or "accidents". We look forward to enrolling our 1yr old daughter next year. I always highly recommened WSCC to our friends who also have young children.
My son recently volunteered at the Westside Children's Center during the Arts Festival. It was a wonderful opportunity for him to complete two hours of community service as part of his High School requirements, and also to give back to the community in our neighborhood. He helped set up the event, and had a very nice volunteering experience in a safe and friendly environment. He was also very appreciative to receive lunch there. :)) Registration in the morning was very easy, the volunteer coordinator was really nice, and it was also very easy to get the community service form signed. We will be looking for more opportunities to volunteer at this nonprofit.
Thank you!
I had a great time and saw lots of happy kids with their families at the Annual Arts Festival while volunteering for this group. They had so many art, music, educational and health services for the children and all had fun while participating. Very organized and inspiring day and staff. Thank you!!
I had a great time volunteering. When I arrived, I was immediately given a job, putting tablecloths on tables in the garden. Not only was it fun but I learned the proper way to make sure a tablecloth is in place!
After that job was completed, Emily easily gave me another job which was easy to complete. I met new volunteers and felt the people in charge knew what they were doing.
The Westside Children's Center is a great benefit to help a child's life. I have been a volunteer at the school for over 5 years. I never in my wildest dream ever knew how important early child care and pre-school is for newborn to five year old. The teachers are caring, compassionate and make all the difference. The 3 to 5 year old children have the opportunity to do arts and crafts on a daily basis and have a basic understanding what to be prepared for when they leave for kindergarten . This school and organization is a true asset to the community and everyone it serves. I highly encourage you to help support Westside Children's Center.

It is absolutely the best, well run, clean, thoughtful, giving, caring and fun school. I LOVE this school. My child loves this school. The school gives great feedback and really has a school feel with a small family approach.
The children that attend this school have a far greater chance of success on the next level and of building a solid foundation of curiosity and learning. Everything in this school is wonderful from the person that greets you at the door to the maintenance guys to the library. If I could myself go to this school I would. I can't say enough good things about this school.
WCC is a great school. My granddaughter has come a long way since she enrolled. She has become more social, caring, and can even count to 10 in Spanish.
I wasn't sure I could handle working full-time and being a foster parent but thought, "I'll take the classes and become certified. If I decide to foster later, I can." I went through the process - which was much smoother than I'd anticipated - and finalized my certification on July 2 and received a call with a potential placement the same day! I wasn't sure I was ready ... WCC held my hand the whole way. There were ups and downs, lots of paperwork and rules to follow but I always felt supported. My adoption was finalized on August 2 and Jessica (our WCC social worker) was right there with us as we signed the last paper! If you're not sure - check it out. Your life will be changed forever.
Westside Children's Center is a wonderful organization that provides vital services to children and families in need. Our school has been fortunate to be a community partner and has participated in amazing events and activities that the families truly love. Everyone on staff is amazing to work with as well!
I have been volunteering with the WCC every single summer since I started high school. Now that I am a junior I reflect upon my time with the WCC community and realize why I keep coming back. The work you do and the experiences you gain from the WCC are truly invaluable. The enviornment is so friendly and fun! The Westside Children's Center does absolutely amazing work. Being able to volunteer with this center is not only an experience of mutual gratification, but also a privilege. Being a classroom helper is a priceless and enriching experience- perfect for volunteers of all gender, ages, and backgrounds. As a teenager being able to run around with the kids, organize crafts, and help in any other way I can is actually really fun as well as rewarding. I am so grateful and blessed to be apart of the WCC community and highly recommend this center for anyone looking to volunteer with amazing teachers, families, children, and other volunteers. The volunteer coordinator is helpful and will always make sure to give you jobs that are relevant and uses your time wisely. The staff is kind and the atmosphere is overall very enjoyable.
This is one of my favorite places to volunteer. The staff is so friendly and truly care about what they are doing. The work is so important that I implore all my friends to volunteer and donate when they need me to!! I would recommend to everyone to learn more about the center and all the incredible things they do!

I love volunteering at the Westside Children's center. It's a very special place with a very warm staff and really fun kids! I recently helped out at their Children's Art's festival with a bunch of my girlfriends and everyone wrote to me after asking how they could get more involved because they had so much fun. The work that they are doing at the Westside Children's Center is so important and I am proud to be a part of such an amazing organization!
I love Westside Children's Center - we have our third foster child through their office now, and we couldn't be happier. They're very kind, attentive, thorough, and concerned for both the children's and our welfare. We really feel like we have a team of people helping us with this - which is important, because often these waters can be tough to navigate on your own.
We adopted one child with WCC and we are currently fostering another one. Through all the foster-adopt process, social workers and parents at WCC supported us and helped us facing difficult times and enjoying happy moments.
My husband and I first came to Westside Children's Center interested in finding more information regarding foster/adoption. Westside Children's Center introduced us to adoption through fostering in an informative orientation, answered all of our questions, educated us through the MAPP classes (Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting), ensured our home was ready with a home study, they keep us apprised of availabilities as they arise and continue support via monthly support group sessions. Westside Children's Center made our dreams come true. Their unwavering support, guidance and insight is second to none.
I have been a volunteer at the Westside Children's Center for a year now. It's been an amazing experience working with these wonderful kids. Thank you Kristen & WCC for this great experience. Cheers! -Victoria
My teenage sons first volunteered at the Westside Children's Center over the summer. I had the privilege of attending the orientation along with them. The enthusiasm which Kristen Mooney, the Community Partnerships Coordinator, displayed when discussing the mission and services that WCC provides was infectious. Everyone from the front desk staff to the classroom teachers is incredibly caring, professional and confidential. The children are safe, happy and well cared for. The faculty truly make learning fun. Theirs is a labor of love. It is my wish that more Centers emulate the excellent that WCC strives for and, in my opinion, achieves.
Westside Children's Center cares about kids. Every possible effort is made to enrich and educate preschool aged students from low income families. The focus remains to create an atmosphere of learning and growth experiences. Though limited in funds, WCC does a remarkable job on a daily basis.
My first experience at the Westside Children's Center took place in the garden. Even on a Saturday with no children present, it was clear this learning environment was amazing. There is so much care and commitment to hands-on learning and teaching important skills and life lessons at early ages. After that experience, I applied to become a classroom volunteer. During the past few months, I have grown to look forward to my weekly volunteer time more than any of my other commitments. Not only is it fun to get to know each of the children's unique (and funny) personality, I've truly learned so much from how the teachers interact with the children. They treat them first as people, then as kids. Even those not even two years old know specifically what their duties are in the classroom, and it is so inspiring to see them grow as respectful, intelligent people. The Westside Children's Center is an extremely well-run and thoughtful organization that kids from any economic background would be lucky to attend, and parents would be forever grateful for the head start their kids received here.
I volunteered with a wonderful and caring group of people for three years that knew the fundraising efforts of the Arts Festival were crucial each year to support and assure that the children and their families would receive the best possible services needed to protect and develop environments for their success, happiness and prosperity in life.

Attended the Kids Art Festival and it was absolutely amazing. The people, food, rock climbing, and energy made my time unforgettable. There was also a kids organization, Generation of the Future, in blue t shirts. Overall I loved it.
i volunteer at WCC whenever I can! It's a beautiful, clean campus and they have so many wonderful ongoing projects. The community garden is fantastic. The families and staff are kind and gracious. Every event is organized and FUN. I would definitely fulfill a volunteer commitment here 2+ times a week of my schedule allowed.
This place is awesome! Got to volunteer at their big event in October and it was really fun. A lot of cool stuff for all of the kids to do. Can't wait for the next one and to get more involved.
Westside Children's Center is a beautiful place full of wonderful staff, volunteers and families. The school campus is such a nice environment for the children and the garden is a wonderful addition of outdoor space for the children to explore. I highly recommend being involved with Westside.
Westside Children's Center provides services that allow at -risk families the possibility for a future with hope. The level of dedication and genuine care that staff members, volunteers and community partners invest in the families they work with is quite obvious. Attending the annual Art's Festival each year has given my family and me the opportunity to see first hand the quality of programs and relevant resources that WCC implements allowing families to grow together and be independent and healthy.

Interning at the Westside Children's Center is a rewarding experience. The staff is very warm and welcoming to volunteer's and students. The center is dedicated to children exploring their creativity along with establishing a foundation of early education. As a volunteer, I have observed how dedicated, professional , and passion for teaching is top priority in the Westside Children's Center. I'm delighted to take part in a organization that supports and contributes to the community. I highly encourage participating in a community program because the experience is life changing. Thank you to the staff and children for allowing me to give back to my community.
I've volunteered at so many centers akin to the Westside Children's Center and this is by far the most well run and professional to date. The staff cares very much about the kids and creates just the right amount of structure and warmth for both the families they serve and the volunteers. The site is clean, bright, cheery and safe.
Volunteering here is fun and they let high school students help out with the children for their community service hours.
What a wonderful organization! Had the pleasure of volunteering at the art festival in October. So much fun and so great to see the smiles on all of the kids faces. Hope to have our group volunteer again soon.
I have been involved with WCC for about 9 years and am so proud to be affiliated with such an organization. The children served are so fortunate to have a loving pre-school and incredible social services available to their families, even as the children age out of the pre-school. Whenever I offer to volunteer, I find the children so happy, the teachers so capable and loving, and the administration working hard to make this non--profit run like a business cradled in compassion. Along with many of my friends, I have helped in many activities, including helping to create a library, redoing a faculty lounge, assisting with mailings, special events, holiday wrapping, and many other activities that contribute to making WCC a very special place. This organization "gets it." They have their goals in line with the needs of this community.

It's been about 8 years that I have been volunteering in different ways at Westside Children's Center. I have always walked in and felt the wonderful, nurturing environment the staff and faculty have created at the pre-school site for the children. The facility itself is modern, beautiful, and child-centered. The artwork that you see as you walk around the campus is done by the children; likewise, the fruits and vegetables grown on site are planted, picked, and eaten by the children. Frankly, I can't imagine a more wonderful way for these kids to spend their days. I have seen changes throughout these years, and they are all positive. This is reflected in the very professional and personable current staff, as well as in how they have managed difficult times with mandated state budget cuts and delays which come with little warning at times. When I have worked in the offices with the administrative staff, I can clearly see the many support groups available and working for and with the families. There is a keen intent to help all the children, from pre-school through the teen years. I would love to see many more centers modeled after this one, and I am so grateful to have connected with this organization and brought many friends to volunteer alongside me.
When you volunteer, it makes all the difference to SEE the tangible, positive results of your work. The beauty is in the details of Westside Childrens Center. It's so satisfying to be part of a highly dedicated, efficiently run, idealistic & practical organization that works tirelessly to weave a safety net of high quality services that keeps families at risk from falling off the deep end - into abuse, crime, violence , alienation & poor education. WCC HELPS KEEP OUR COMMUNITY STRONG & HEALTHY. Just go to the Center and see lives changing for the better - gives me goose bumps every time.
I began volunteering at WCC in 1995, and I have been on the Board of Directors since 1998. I am so proud to be involved in such a phenomenal and much-needed organization. People often think that there isn't as much poverty or need on the west side of Los Angeles, but within blocks of WCC is a Federal housing project and two public schools where nearly all the kids qualify for public assistance. WCC has been serving our community with consistent, high-quality care and by responding to the changing needs of the children and families we serve. We offer a wide range of services.....from foster care and adoption, to early care and education, to prevention and facilitated health services. If you aren't familiar with WCC, schedule a time with our development office, to take a tour and see us in action. We are looking for interested and giving people who want to make a difference in the lives of children and families!
Our journey to becoming a family began when we decided to explore adoption, and a friend recommended WCC. Although it wasn't the route we were planning, it was definitely the path for us. We became certified foster parents, and started our family when our Godson came to stay with us. He was to be reunified with his birth parents, and we were very apprehensive about the process initially. Turns out that his birth parents also became part of our family, and we were confident in his return to them, that was where he was meant to be. WCC managed this process with all the compassion that was humanly possible and made our family stronger.
The second child placed with us is our daughter, and she came to us as a foster child in need of a permanent home. The process was lengthy, but the benefit of fostering was that she was with us while we were waiting for the paperwork to be completed. The Adoption Day at the Family Court was amazing, and the celebration we had later with our friends and family was incredibly special.
Now it's 13 years later. Our Godson and his Mom are doing very well. We keep in touch often, and try to see each other when we're able, since we now live in different cities. Our daughter is preparing to graduate from high school in June, and will be off to college in the fall.
We define family as a group of people who love each other unconditionally. And WCC was the perfect organization for us to work with, as their program, and support helped us to bring our group of people together for a lifetime.
My experience with WCC started by attending an orientation about how to become a Foster/Adoptive parent. From that initial meeting I knew this was the agency for me. The staff were well knowledgable and welcomed me in a warm and compassionate manner. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but more someone desiring to adopt a child. I began my journey in 2011 and have successfully adopted my daughter as of October 2013. The road was rough, but with the loving and caring support from the staff at WCC, I was able to overcome challenges, losses and obstacles faced along the way. I am forever grateful to WCC for helping fulfill my dream of becoming a mom.
I would have to echo what my fellow volunteers have said about the Westside Childrens' Center being a well-run institution that is making a positive impact on peoples' lives. As a retired teacher from a nearby high school, I have run into a number of former students who are either being served by the Center or who are now employed there. They have told me how happy they are to be associated with the Center. I am proud of the volunteer projects that I have participated in and always feel that my time there is well-spent.
WCC knows that "it takes a village" to raise a child and provide optimal support to a family. How wise they are to welcome adults as well as students from elementary, middle, high school and college to partner with them to build a healthier tomorrow for their families. My children and I have been enriched by our meaningful volunteer hours at WCC's child care center for over a decade. Additionally, we have been pleased to know that both our financial and in-kind donations are put to thoughtful use by the center. Simply call their Volunteer Coordinator and ask, "How can I help?"
I run the community service program at a high school in the area and we are so lucky to have the opportunity to connect with the WCC and to bring our students to the center to volunteer. We have several student developed service projects that have been launched at the center and their willingness to collaborate and help our students learn more as we find ways to support the needs of the center and their clients has been remarkable!
I am so grateful to have been introduced to Westside Children's Center 8 years ago. I've helped out in many different capacities ~~ at community events and fundraisers, helping with mailings and serving food. My experience interacting with not only the faculty/staff, but also with the children and their families, has been positive. The children/families are happy and cared for in a great environment and the administration and staff are hard working, dedicated individuals giving their best. I'm proud to be associated with them!
I have been volunteering in the Garden at the Westside Children’s Center for about two years. I help the children plant seeds, tend the soil, water the plants, harvest the fruits and vegetables and even help with the composting. The children arrive with huge smiles ready to work and get dirty. We always provide a lesson in the garden related to the planting process. The children are able to experience the plant growth cycle from seed to harvest. They are able to eat what they grow and even take some home to share with their families. The pride and joy the children feel is tremendous. It is a very nurturing and loving environment. In the garden the children express their passion for learning about the earth.
Westside Children's Center is a wonderful place! My 12-year-old daughter has been volunteering there for two years, and it is one of her favorite things to do. She loves working with the children when she volunteers, whether it is playing on the playground or reading in the classroom. She also enjoys helping out the staff, whom she says are always kind and thoughtful. WCC has always been very accommodating when coordinating my daughter's volunteer days, and everyone I have met and interacted with has been helpful, appreciative and professional. The facility is beautiful and is a great learning environment for the children. I am so glad my daughter found WCC, and I hope she continues to volunteer there for many years to come!
My 11-year-old daughter visited the WCC with her 5th grade class last spring and asked me to sign her up to volunteer right away. She put in more than 70 hours during the summer and had such a positive experience that she says she wants to be a teacher. Mastering her responsibilities, overcoming challenges, and winning the trust and respect of the WCC teachers and students helped build her confidence. She still adores the kids she got to know and the warm, loving, committed teachers who were able to train and support her very affectionately while running a busy classroom. She plans to go back every day she has off from school. We feel very grateful that the WCC has such a positive relationship with her elementary school and that this program is available to her! It has been a life-changing experience!
I began volunteering at WCC several years ago. From the very beginning, I was moved by the dedication of those who went way beyond their pay grade just to make things work. But what really captivated me were the good humor and smiles on those faces who dealt with delays, financial constraints and the daily challenges of preparing the children for a promising future.
The change in just the past few years has been nothing short of miraculous. They now have a library for the children, a new lounge where staff can rest or work in comfortable surroundings. They have cultivated a delightful hands-on garden for the little ones.
I guess it's the cheerful vibes that I feel whenever I show up for volunteering that makes me know that their positive energy is surely touching all who enter their loving world.
I had been working with them for more than 10 years. I am a Child Care Provider and my experience, in the beginning was good, then they had problems to pay us for more than 3 months sometimes and they never pay us on time.
They are not serious in their work, and we never know what to expect form them.
We don't have yet a copy of the contract that we signed last year.
I am still working with them because I have some children from their program for a long time.
