Mission: Oasis High School seeks to address the epidemic of dropping out among young people, particularly, urban youth. Oasis is a small school with talented and dedicated teachers which provides a comprehensive high school education for students 14-18 years of age in grades 9-12.
Programs: 1.Core academic program for approximately 120 students leading to a high school diploma through small classes that meet on a daily basis. This program is funded by public education funding. 2.Individual study program for about 50 students who meet once or twice a week with instructors and work independently or in small groups. This is also funded largely by public education funds. 3.Youth Expressions Project that includes art, poetry, music classes that are part of the school day and after school. Approximately 100 students participate each year. This is funded by a number of local charities and through partnerships with communtiy based organizations and local artists. 4.Summer school for 50 students in need of additional academic support and/or extra credits. Funded through supplemental funds from the State of California. 5.After-school art and sports programs that involve approximately 50 students are funded by individuals and operate in partnership with other community organizations. 6.Youth Against Youth Incarceration (YAYI) is a youth-led organization that grew out of a year-long academic class that involved research and action planning on an issue chosen by the students.
