Mission: The mission of the new orleans opera association (nooa) is to enrich the lives of all people by producing opera of the highest artistic quality and providing education opportunities through traditional and innovative approaches. The activities of the organization are to plan, produce and present opera of the highest musical and artistic caliber; to educate the public on the value and joy of opera; to encourage and facilitate the participation in the art form by young people; to maintain the h. Lloyd hawkins scenic studio as a resource for local, national and international opera companies and performing arts groups; to continue its history of contributing to the community's cultural heritage; and to have a positive impact on civic life.
Programs: The association presented four fully staged opera productions and staged a smaller scale opera, all of which were conceived and produced locally, with artists engaged individually by the general director and production design executed by the association's scenic studio. As part of its mission to introduce opera to younger audiences, students throughout the metropolitan area are invited to dress rehearsal performances of these productions. In-school performances are also performed throughout the region. Additionally, adult education is performed through free concerts in area establishments and through partnerships with local businesses.
