And are were happy to be able to support an organization devoted to preservation of this New Orleans institution.

Their volunteers are amazing individuals working hard to give back to the NOLA area.

Much respect to this fine organization that's helping to protect, support and nurture New Orleans' legendary music community.

I wish I had found this site before I had my unfortunate adventure with Upturn Arts, instead of after. As a black woman teacher, I also experienced abusive treatment, unfair pay, and unpredictable scheduling similar to a previous worker.<br><br>During the initial training with the director and both new and veteran teachers, I was singled out for demeaning comments that forced me to complain privately to the teacher trainer. She made no effort to address the unprofessional people, so I was left to avoid them and hope their hazing behavior faded out with time.<br><br>Sadly, when the actual camp started, the harassment then came from the director. Even though I pre-submitted lesson plans, she made critical comments after my lessons behind my back that filtered back to me from whispers from the teaching assistants. Besides that, we had been promised trained assistants in our classroom but were in fact supplied with untrained teenagers. They filled the room with shouting, interrupted children at creative play, left their water bottles and clipboards on the floor randomly underfoot while children were dancing, sometimes grabbed kids up to cuddle in their laps (so unprofessional!) refused to help with setting up the classroom, and generally created an air of not wanting to be there or help the kids. When I mentioned this to the director she confirmed that she had observed the same. Then I asked her if those teens could please not to be sent into my classroom as assistants anymore. Yet she continued to send them in the following days and even sent more of them (!) <br><br>Besides the chaos and lack of professionalism, there was also unpredictability with hours. We were first contracted to teach 12 weeks, then I was emailed that I was only booked for 8, and then I was reduced to exactly 2 weeks (suspiciously near to my complaints about the untrained teens). <br><br>CAUTION: Do not agree to work with Upturn if you're a teaching artist who values young children or a Black woman who values your self respect!

I've supported this group for several decades, with my time and money and also actively working on its Board. They are professional and focused solely on the public preparatory school in New Orleans, open to any Louisiana student by audition in the fields of music (classical, jazz, vocal), visual arts, theater, culinary arts and related subjects. An amazing institution turning out grads bound for college with numerous scholarships, increasing the diversity in the arts and turning out the artistic leaders of tomorrow. Fiscally sound, totally committed to excellence plus low administrative expenses = my favorite nonprofit in all the world. I'm a supporter for life and beyond.

My daughter has been a member of iNfinity for 3 years now and absolutely loves everything about it. She was awarded a full scholarship for an entire year which covers her tuition, uniforms, travel expenses, hair, make up and any competition fees. This award (Henrietta G. Martin Award) is given out every year to a girl that shows up for classes on time, does her absolute best in all classes, is helpful to others when in need, has a positive attitude and on the honor roll in school. I must say that the Owners and Coaches truly care about every child that enters through their doors and treat them all like their own. They do so much volunteer work in the community and truly teach the girls so much more about life than just cheer and dance. This company has shaped so many girls into positive young ladies that care about each other, their family and communities. - Alicia Rhea

The New Orleans Musicians and Assistance Foundation operates under a commitment of caring for all musicians, tradition bearers such as the Mardi Gras Indians and gospel singers, dancers, writers, visual artists and their families.<br><br>The Director Bethany Bultman and her husband Johan, the CFO do not take a salary nor the board or Medical Director. The only full time staff are the nurse practitioner, the social worker and the LPN.<br><br>The patients are treated as a whole person including their special needs as a performing artist. When a patient needs extensive or more medical care than the clinic can provide they seek out grants or donors for that the particular patient. <br><br>They all go the extra mile to improve the health and well-being of their patients. They also know that the patients support group entails both family, friends and bandmates and reach out to them for the patient as permitted by law or by the patient.<br><br>They recognize performance anxiety as an occupational issue for many and help them to find other ways of coping other than self-medicating. <br><br>The goal of the clinic and the foundation to "Stop Death by Lifestyle" and they are helping to make positive changes to many people and developing community health leaders that can help others.<br>

Community Works is so important here in New Orleans because it gives children a SAFE place to be when they finish school for the day. Their work helps reduce the chance of these children engaging in at-risk behaviors afterschool

I recently tried to make a contribution to an artist's project through USA Projects aka Hatchfund. I clicked the donate button and entered $1,000 the internet site listed my contribution as $1,207. It seems if you do not select a percentage the site automatically charges you 19%. It also adds a 5% processing fee to the contribution. I found this tactic less than reasonable and voided my contribution. <br> <br>Janice Stamper
