Mission: To provide for the welfare and care of needy sisters of the grand chapter, order of the eastern star and the brothers of the grand lodge, faam of the district of columbia, their spouses and dependent children; and contribute, as far as possible, to the charitable needs of others through grants.
Programs: We provided the necessary funds for nursing home care, in-home care, medical insurance payments, doctor and dentist visits, pharmacy costs, cost of ambulances, funeral expenses, and in general provided humanitarian relief whenever possible to needy members (and their families) of the order of the eastern star - dc and of the grand lodge faam - dc.
we provided donations to other 501(c)(3) organizations whose missions are similar to ours. For example, in 2017 we gave a grant to: the special olympics-dc (specializing in helping special-needs children who are unable to participate in regular sports); the harmonic music foundation (speciailzing in providing musical instruments and lessons to children who would otherwise not have the financial means to study music); and safe shore-dc, which is a children's advocacy center. These are examples of organizations we have helped in 2017.
matching gifts and rewards program: we provide matching donations when we receive donations from masonic related organizations requesting that their funds be donated to specific 501(c)(3) organizations whose goals are similar to ours. We do this, in part, to encourage recognition and public support for our organization. We also provide donations to other 501(c)(3)charitable organizations located in the washington dc metropolitan area. These organizations are chosen by our volunters as an encouragement for them to spend as much time as possible as a volunteer for our organization. The amount of the donations are based on a formula approved by our board of directors each year, using the time and effort volunteers spend helping us accomplish our exempt purposes. Without volunteers it would be very difficult to achieve our goals.
