Causes: Leadership Development
Mission: Providing fort worth with diverse and enlightened leadership through the use of various programs.
Programs: Leadership classthe leadership class exposes established leaders to the diverse needs and issues in the community through a nine-month program held each year. It provides a rich understanding of fort worth's history, current issues, and future needs and opportunities. In addition to the exposure to a wide range of issues over the monthly programs, class participants select one particular issue for a more intensive study and to commit themselves to bring their resources, assets, and networks together to make a difference on that issue.
leading edge offers emerging leaders in their mid-20s to mid-30s an opportunity to strengthen leadership capacity, create connections with community leaders and begin to move into decision-making roles in the community. Throughout its six-month term, the class meets every three weeks at various locations to learn leadership practices shared by successful community leaders, identify personal leadership strengths, explore processes relevant to "how fort worth works" (collaboration, advocacy, board governance), create connections through roundtable discussions, and have an opportunity to participate on a non-profit board though the board shadow program. More than 50 non-profit organizations have participated in the board shadow program.
leaderprime provides information and leadership connections to ceos/top decision-makers in order to inform, education and involve them in the fort worth community. The target is ceos who are new to fort worth and/or to their positions. Spouses are invited to participate as well. Goals:to offer extensive information on pertinent issues impacting the business environment, locally, statewide and nationally. To provide connections/introductions to significant leaders and the roles they play. To open doors for personal involvement in meaningful sectors of our community. To offer opportunities to appreciate fort worth's rich history, culture and current trends.
leaderkids targets under-performing 8th graders to assist them in recognizing their potential, discovering leadership abilities, and setting high goals for themselves, all in the context of community volunteerism. This program partners with the fort worth independent school district as a part of its stay in school initiative. Forty-six students meet monthly to learn about careers and educational opportunities and to practice leadership skills. The culmination of the year is a community service project that allows them to practice their new skills and work with a number of community partners. Graduates of the leadership class and leading edge classes become members of leadership fort worth. Lfw is committed to maintaining the connections that its members have to each other and to the fort worth community by providing programs that provide continuing education on leadership, updates on new entities/initiatives in fort worth, and socializing/networking among members of leadership fort worth.
