Causes: Community Clinics, Health, Hospitals
Mission: Our mission is to make Laguna Honda a center for excellence for long-term care, rehabilitative and outpatient services, and to partner with other community providers to make a positive difference in the quality of life of our residents and the peace of mind of their families.
Programs: The Laguna Honda Foundation has been established to achieve three very important outcomes. The first outcome measure is to raise $40 million, to be accomplished over 3 years, to fund the purchase of new furniture, fixtures and equipment for the new hospital. (The City and County of San Francisco has already committed $25 million of the $40 million toward this effort). Attainment of this goal will guarantee that the new facility is opened with all new furniture and medical equipment and will be not only a source of civic pride for all San Francisco, but demonstrate what state-of-the-art long term healthcare should be for the nation. The second outcome measure is to advance the scientific endeavors of research and teaching in areas that advance healthcare programs for the disabled and aging populations. Laguna Honda offers substantial opportunities for research because of its array of services and resident population And lastly, the third outcome measure is the implementation of a Skilled Nursing Education Program. Today's intensified needs of RNs is being spurred by many reasons, among which include, the mounting health care needs of increasing numbers of elderly; a growing population of hospitalized patients who are older, more acutely ill, and in need of more skilled RNs per patient; and technological advances requiring more highly skilled nursing care. The Skilled Nursing Education Program will produce outcomes that provide future direction to the healthcare professional community and enhance the quality of life for all Laguna Honda residents.
